First, since none of the reviews I read mentioned this, I'm going to in case it's important to someone: there is a long shuttle ride from the port to the resort. The roads are terrible and it's super bumpy, and lasts about 40 minutes. It is covered in the cost of a day pass though, so that's great. Once that ride is done though, 10 out of 10! The staff were extremely attentive, super friendly and upbeat. They would literally walk into the water to take drink orders and bring them out. The drinks were good, the lunch was delicious and the massage was super relaxing. We had two beach chairs and an umbrella, with a day bed right behind to ourselves. There were no outside vendors asking us if we wanted to buy their things all day, which was really nice. It was a beautiful, relaxing, well spent day. We will most definitely return!

I was here a couple years ago and loved it, so tried it again. You need to reserve and pre-pay. From a cruise ship we had to walk out of the port area about a five minute walk. You can't take the taxis inside the port area. Just keep going out the gate and maybe a quarter mile at most they have a place to check-in. From there they have taxis that are included in the price. The ride is about 25 minutes. They have a lot of options on the beach for sun or shade. You can find chairs, loungers, beds, hammocks, and so on. Food and drinks are all included. They have a taco lunch all freshly made with a lot of options. They are excellent! They also have Wi-Fi and numerous water toys available and all included. They have very reasonable massages too. If you want one make a reservation if you want to wait, they are very popular. When you want to leave you go to the front and they have taxis that will take you all the way inside the port. Very nice place to relax. The staff is amazing and the go way out of their way to make sure you have a good time!

This is absolute hidden gem. What an amazing staff with 5 star service. Relaxing tiki hut with chairs, a bed & a hammock. Access to their pool, kayaks, floats. Fresh made taco buffet with all the fixins. For the price you can't beat this experience. We will 100% be back. Easy walk to the meeting point, never once felt unsafe. Simply Paradise.

Key is attitude. Not theirs, but ours: I did min research, as friends chose it. My expectations were off, but the staff won me over. Also, running an indie excursion can't be easy. I'm not fond of corporations, monopolies, needless overhead. The worst things about the excursion are hard to control: Farther meetup spot. Bumpy public roads. Seaweed. Murky water. And the book. Maybe staff will sign.

We stopped here for an excursion off of our cruise on Allure of the Seas. The service was amazing- they always made sure you had a cold drink in your hand. They food was phenomenal- the best I had all week. They did fun activities like tortilla making contest and a tequila tasting. We had our own cabana and the pool basically to ourselves. We had a massage and it was so affordable and really relaxing- don't miss it! They are honest about if there is a lot of seaweed on the beach- they show you a video so you can opt out if you want to but I am glad we didn't!

Last time visiting the Port of Costa Maya, Mexico we did some shopping, dropped in the pool at the port, had a beverage or two and got back on the ship to take advantage of empty waterslides and bars. This time...we were FAR more intelligent. After a little research we stumbled upon Maya Chan Beach Resort. The reviews were slightly mixed (mostly due to conditions out of their control like rough/murky waters) but we decided to roll the dice. We hit seven and eleven...over and over again. Leaving the port we found our transportation to Maya Chan (which was organized by Maya Chan and included in our fee) quite easily. We packed some people into a large 20 passenger style van and were on our way! A 20-ish minute ride through Mahahual was all that stood in our way of an incredibly relaxing day of beach, food, and beverages. The sights on the ride were truly beautiful as well (please see our video about the trip to Maya Chan for reference). "This cask sir is tequila that has been infused for six months with vanilla bean, and it is the smoothest thing you'll ever taste" - Our Wonderful Bartender As we arrived we were met at the front of the resort by a few employees whose English seemed to be a bit better than the others. One of the employees was clearly the "manager" and she explained the amenities, meal time, beverages, and showed us where the snorkel gear and showers were. We were then led to our private area of comfortable beach chairs, a wicker bed canopy, and gigantic palm frawn umbrella. We were immediately brought a rum punch as a welcome beverage (which I realize now after a few trips to Mexico that this is basically the industry standard kickoff) and some fresh tortilla chips with guacamole and pico de gallo. Our goal was fairly simple for this trip, try different cervezas, try different tequila's, eat authentic Mexican food, and perhaps take a beach nap! After a while of relaxing, a dip in the ocean, and quite a few different Mexican brews, it was time for our lunch. We were all gathered by the grill where mostly everything was set out for us and we had all of our options explained to us. Naturally, we tried a taste of everything...and so incredibly happy we did. The steak, pork, and chicken were all incredibly tender and flavorful. There was no need to even add any sauces (even though we did anyway) and these proteins didn't even need sides or tortillas (but we had those too). The sea bass was literally falling apart it was so tender and that was also incredible. After lunch (and another few beers of course), we went up to the bar. Chas leads in with "So...tell me about Tequila". Yes...those were his famous last words. Our bartender was more than happy to swiftly line up 6 shots for each of us with a brief description of each, how they were made, brands, where to get them, and varying degrees of flavor. It started with something downright foreign to either of us and I truly believe we are better people for having experienced it. There was a barrel sitting on it's side with a tap in it on the bar and we asked what was in it...turns out it was shot #1 on the tour of tequila's. "This cask sir is tequila that has been infused for six months with vanilla bean, and it is the smoothest thing you'll ever taste" ... oh how right he was. Easily the best tequila either of us have ever had...and we have had A LOT of tequila in our lives. The rest of the tour was slightly less tasty from 2-6 and each had a little more of a bite and a little less of euphoria. Chas nearly immediately went to the bed canopy and took a nap. Chuck went back in the ocean, made some new friends, and went back for more Vanilla Tequila shots! Our new friends hadn't experienced this yet, and clearly we could not allow them to go back to their homes somewhere in nowheresville, Idaho without indulging in this insanely tasty elixir. Soon after it was our time to say goodbye to all of our new friends from Maya Chan and head back to the port so we could board the Norwegian Sun and set sail for Cozumel. This beach club was one of the most relaxing and tasty experiences i've ever had...and that's saying a lot. The hospitality of the staff was truly warm and inviting and the feeling I had leaving there was one of completeness. Maya Chan Beach Resort in sunny Mahahual, Mexico...100% Didn't Suck!

My family & I spent the afternoon here during a cruise stop in Costa Maya. Maya Chan was very laid back & peaceful. The food was superb and the service was very friendly and fun. Our kids (ages 16, 15, and 10) had plenty to do on the beach and our private seating area was just right for us. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something low key and on the water.

Absolutely love the private beach feel of this place. The staff is very very accommodating and helpful. The food was a preset menu and every bite was delicious! I let them know in advance about my food allergies and intolerances and they were super accommodating. The drinks are awesome and if you ask the bartender for his specialty drink he makes this mojito type drinks that is delicious and definitely intoxicating if you have too many. There is lots to do on this beach but for me it was just a great day to relax and rest with good music and a really good drink. The only downside was the constant wash up of debris and seaweed which in all honesty is a Mother Nature issue.

If you're looking for a laid back, authentic, family-friendly beach day in Costa Maya... Maya Chan Beach was absolutely incredible. From the second we arrived, we were greeted by the family who owns and lives on the property, and that set the tone for the entire day. It never felt like a crowded tourist stop. It felt like being welcomed into someone's home and treated like part of their family. The atmosphere was relaxed and beautiful with hammocks swaying under palm trees, gorgeous foliage everywhere, soft sand, and our own covered palapa area for the family to lounge and recharge. The staff and servers were genuinely some of the friendliest we've experienced anywhere. The taco bar deserves its own standing ovation The homemade tortillas were hands down some of the best we've ever had. Add in fresh food, drinks, and tequila tasting, and we were very happy campers. Our kids thought the contests and activities were the coolest part of the day. There was always something happening, which kept things fun and interactive for all ages. And the massages on site? Absolutely top tier. Even with the seaweed impacting some of the water play during our visit, we still had an amazing time because there was SO much to enjoy beyond just swimming. The whole place has this peaceful, welcoming energy that made it one of our favorite cruise excursions of the trip. One of the biggest signs of how special this place is? Multiple people in our cruise group told us they come back every single cruise. One family said this was already their FIFTH visit. That alone says a lot. read more

What went well? Everything. Directions to meet the crew for transportation to Maya chan thru the trip back to the shop. All was perfection. We had our own little area of the beach with chairs and an umbrella. Drinks offered from the beginning and a wonderful sever who constantly made the rounds to check on what we needed. Guac and salsa with chips was served immediately. The beach was clean despite all the sargassum. Everything was included. Everything. Was chill and private. Perfect. read more

I could not love this experience more!! I loved everything about Maya Chan. especially the owner (daughter-in-law of owners? not sure who's name is on the bills lol) and all the staff! very intimate and warm place. beautiful, to say the least. my opinion is that the town is all but a dirty ghost town until you reach the island paradise of Maya Chan. Porta Maya is probably my least favorite destination I've ever been, but Maya Chan was probably my number one, favorite excursion I've ever been on. I would return to Prota Maya only to revisit Maya Chan. 10 out of 10 would recommend!!! They made us feel like family. she hugged me when we left, like a loving sister saying goodbye. loved it! read more

4 out of 5 stars Maya Chan Beach Resort is a very unique experience, and I think it's important to go in with the right expectations. Transportation first: the pickup location is completely outside the cruise port. Yes--you must walk out of the shops, past the parking lot, and all the way down to the end of the street. You'll pass a fake Mayan ruin pyramid, and at the very end you'll see a tiki-style booth with removable Maya Chan Beach Resort signs and staff wearing navy blue "Maya Chan Beach Resort" shirts. This is legitimate. You'll sign a liability waiver, wait about 10-15 minutes, then board a taxi. The 25-minute drive to the resort is bumpy and very eye-opening. The surrounding area is not westernized at all--you'll see poverty, rundown buildings, and beaches along the road with visible trash. If you get carsick easily, this drive will likely affect you. That said, understanding the story behind Maya Chan completely changes the perspective. This property was devastated by Hurricane Dean and was once considered "the piece of property you don't want." What exists now was rebuilt slowly and intentionally by owners who believed in it anyway. Knowing that gives a lot of context to both the journey and the destination. Once you arrive, the experience shifts. The staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly, and you can feel the heart behind the place. The resort is a thoughtful blend of Mexican culture and presentation, owned by Americans, with a mix of Mexican and American staff. The beach area itself is clean, calm, and well cared for. The food is okay--solid but not exceptional--and the drinks are good. Overall, it's a good value for what you pay, especially considering the attentive service and relaxed atmosphere. One thing to note: the ocean water near the shore is chocolate brown, which initially made us hesitant. This is due to a natural seagrass shelf about 100 feet offshore, not pollution. It's part of the natural environment, but it's still surprising if you're used to clear turquoise water. Maya Chan is very much a Mexican experience, not a polished, western-style beach club. If you're expecting luxury or resort perfection, this may not be the right fit. If you're open-minded, appreciate resilience, and want a relaxed day with kind people and an authentic story behind it, this place is worth visiting. read more

When we booked this trip, I was skeptical, but hoped for the best. We had the absolute best day! We felt completely safe and well-cared for the entire day. The taxi shuttle van takes you from just outside the port to the beach and then returns you to the port. Once you are at the beach, you want for nothing. We had a covered cabana with a hammock, chairs and cushioned lounge just for ourselves. They brought us chips and dip and immediately took our drink orders. They made sure we were comfortable and our drinks were filled. Everything was included in the price. We kayaked, paddled board, lounged in the water on mesh chairs and laid out on the ocean lounge cushions. They provided life vests, beach toys for the kids, snorkeling gear, showers, and had very clean restrooms. I felt kind of like royalty when they waded out into the ocean to take our drink orders. It was just a very relaxing day. Thank you to the entire staff for being so kind and attentive. read more

We loved Maya Chan in Costa Maya. Costa Maya itself is a very dirty, very poor, stinky, area. They do not have swimmable beaches anywhere this time of year. Do not expect tropical paradise. It's quite sad to see all the failed resorts dirty abandoned beaches along the way. The hosts at Costa Maya do a wonderful job of bringing the cultural joy and some prosperity back to the area. Everyone at the resort is kind and welcoming. The food was authentic and delicious. The drinks were fresh and amazing. The massage was fabulous and professional. Their grounds are well maintained and comfortable. They have a little gift shop with local handcrafted items at reasonable prices. They have several well behaved and friendly pets on the property. We were traveling as a Senior Girl Scout troop and they went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our day. read more

My group of 4 came to this resort on a cruise excursion. It can be Intimidating for some to book a non-cruise excursion but this is so worth it! Staff was absolutely amazing and ensured we made it back to our ship with time to spare. The food was the best we had during our trip. UNLIMITED DRINKS, they even sent us with one to go. Again the staff at maya Chan was amazing, very attentive and kind. They went over the top to ensure we had an amazing time. The beach does have some seaweed, if your looking for a "perfect" beach this may not be for you, however it did not bother our group. Plenty of water activities to do for kids and adults. GET THE MASSAGE. So affordable and one of the best I've had! I would book a trip to costa maya to stop in at the maya Chan again, we had a great time :). read more

Maya Chan Beach Resort in sunny Mahahual, Mexico...100% Didn't Suck! read more

I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something low key and on the water. read more

Maya Chan is legit the best. There are not enough words to describe how wonderful the place and staff are. They really take service to the next level. When we first booked our cruise in January, I started researching things to do in Costa Maya. After reading some rave reviews about Maya Chan, I quickly contacted them to make a booking. I highly recommend making a booking as soon as you can, since they do limit the amount of people that can visit per day. They were super quick to respond and always very helpful when I had questions. I requested a palapa - typically they either assign you a palapa or a pergola. I really wanted a palapa just in case any moist clouds flew by while we were there. They were able to accommodate us. We had this palapa with a bed, two chairs, a swing chair, and a hammock all to ourselves. The moment we arrived, we were greeted with a welcome drink and chips, salsa, and guacamole. Before I even finished my first drink, they were already around asking if we wanted another one! BF went to get a massage ($25 for half hour, $45 for full hour) and I just hung out in the hammock with a drink in my hand. We then used their floating chairs, which are the best things ever created. Staff kayaked out to take our drink orders! I always had a mango daiquiri in hand throughout the day. We also used their glass bottom kayaks, which was fun but exhausting! Lunch was a house-made Mayan-inspired taco buffet with corn or flour soft tortillas and four protein choices and a lot of toppings. We had our choice of skirt steak, chicken, pork, and fish. I opted for the steak, chicken, and fish. The fish! OMG the fish!! It was so good. It was flakey and soft and buttery. I wish I had gotten more fish! There was also a kind of bean stew and rice. After lunch, they ask you when you want to leave and I think most of us left at the same time (2:30pm). It was a bit earlier, but we definitely wanted to get back in time for all aboard at 4:30pm. We were actually in the water, so they kayaked out to ask us what time we wanted to leave! They also have fresh water showers, clean bathrooms, and changing rooms as well as lockers and snorkeling gear. Wifi was decent - but I wasn't on my phone often anyways. Warnings: There are two doggos, so if you're not a dog person, beware. They're nice dogs though! The walk to the meet up spot is long and hot, so if you're not very mobile, or good with heat, this might be a problem for you. The drive there is bumpy, but nothing terrible or dangerous. It just took a long time. There is seaweed and the water is brown. Sometimes it's smelly too. BUT the staff work SUPER hard to clear the seaweed from the beach. BF and I weren't bothered. We just kept offering large bundles of seaweed to each other as "presents". read more

I almost don't want to review this place because I want it to stay a secret. We came here on a cruise stop and honestly I would just come here if they had a hotel. You are bussed in. Of all times for us to decide to sleep in on our cruise ship was our favorite day on land. The destination is a bit from port so get off the ship as soon as possible and be prepared for a bumpy ride. We arrived and were greeted w cocktails and taken to our area. We had a couple hammocks and seating areas and it was pretty private. We also had chips, salsa and guacamole. All beverages and food is included and let me tell you the food is amazing. Like hands down the best tacos I have ever had all prepared fresh and they make sure you are full. There is free WiFi but you don't even want to be on your phones. There is a little treehouse that gets the best signal. All floats, paddle boards and kayaks including 2 person kayaks are free of use. There is optional massages that were about $25 for 20-30 minutes that we took advantage of and it was well worth it. The only down side is the water is not very clear and a bit rocky. The staff is on it with drinks though and makes sure you have an amazing experience. read more

The only downside was the constant wash up of debris and seaweed which in all honesty is a Mother Nature issue. read more

Such an amazing time! We were so well taken care of! The food was phenomenal, my favorite was the carnitas and they even made quesadillas for our 2 and 4 year olds. The beach was beautiful with toms of amenities. Would love to come back! read more

Great place to spend the day! Our family recently visited Maya Chan while on a cruise. This is a family operated, small authentic beach that provided a very enjoyable experience. Julie met us outside the cruise terminal and got us cabs to the beach, which is about 25 minutes away down a dirt road. Maya Chan was an oasis, with a great little bar, private cabanas and excellent food, plus their own tequila. David, the proprietor was very nice and accommodating. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area! read more

The best beach club. I almost want it to be a secret. The staff are AMAZING. Our drinks were not empty for 2 minutes before being refilled. The seaweed was a problem, but they were raking it at all times. The food was fresh, and it was amazing. The club was reasonably priced, which I find crazy. There was a tiny dock out in the water to tie the kayak up to. This is the place to be. read more
Costa Maya is really only a place the cruise industry has devised to sell jewelry and small souvenirs so if you port here find an activity away from the port. Enter Maya Chan. We visited Maya Chan after visiting here 5 years ago on a previous cruise. This was a favorite spot then and has remained a great place to go while on Costa Maya. It's an all day affair and if coming to this amazing place plan on getting out of the ship early and coming back late with the option to return any time. Maya Chan is 30 mins outside of the cruise port and they have great vans to bring you back and forth included in the price. Today's experience was a bit different as it was very rainy and cold(very unusual here). They did offer a full refund but we wanted to go so badly that we rejected the offer. The staff made us feel at home with "welcome drinks" and great salsa/dip. They put on a guacamole class and also had a tequila tasting in due to the weather issues. Lunch was amazing and they offered 4 types of taco meat selections as well and a variety of sides. The drinks are always poured on the heavy side and staff is eyeballing you the entire time to get the empty glass replaced with a filled one ASAP. The assigned palapas are great as you don't have to fight for space. In fact, they never sell more tickets than the have enough room to serve to their high standards. We learned today that even during rain they still shine! See you on the beach!! read more

A bumpy (literally) start. Once we got to the beach it was the most wonderful day. 3 dogs and 2 cats on the grounds. Beautiful grounds the water was amazing but a strong wind kept us close to the shore. Despite a mound of seaweed there wasn't a strong odor but a breeze that felt amazing. The pool was the spot for the kids and parents. Plenty of shade for everyone and also so much sun. The staff is absolutely amazing and the drinks oh my goodness, so wonderful. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Costa Maya. Also check out that tree house and chairs! read more

This is the best cruise stop I have been to. You have to book it directly through the company, since they only take so many guest a day. Our party of 6 were picked up at the port and taken by van to this destination. We were welcomed with drinks and chips and dip. We ran our waiter around getting us shots and refilling our beers and cocktails. Lunch was great. We indulged in a couples massage, I think it was around $20-30 for 30 minutes each. I wish we would have done the hour but we didn't want to miss out on the fun our friends were having. One of our friends got engaged there. Unfortunately, our fun came to an early end when one of the guys in our group fell off his paddle board onto a rock and sliced his foot open. The staff was helpful & kind to wrap his foot and get us on an early van back to the ship to be seen by the doctors on board our ship. We want to come back & experience a full day. read more

Don't think twice about going to Maya Chan Beach. We went last month with a group of ten of all ages and we all had a great time. From the time you arrive to the time you leave, you a treated like a long-lost member of the family. Don't worry at all about not doing an excursion through the cruise ship. For less than half the cost, you get all you can drink, eat, and spend the day in paradise. Yes, there are some rocks, and yes, there is sea grass sometimes. But what there isn't-- huge groups of obnoxious people, over priced drinks, bad food, and being nickel and dimed for everything beyond the basics. You do get-- very friendly hosts, a great environment, the best dog named Rodas you will find in Mexico, and a place you will want to gloat to your friends about for years to come. All of us from our group had a great time and will be back just as soon as we can. read more

The ride from the port was rough and bumpy, but we were warned before we booked. Zero complaints. As soon as the taxi pulled up, David was there to greet us, give us a tour, and get us situated in our cabana. David was super awesome. He treated us like old friends. I'm a jerk and totally can't remember the name of the nice lady that attended our cabana. She checked on us frequently, and made sure we had drinks and what not. The lunch was very delicious: marinated skirt skirt steak chicken with traditional spices (not spicy) fish (think is was bass), with garlic butter pork, sort of like pulled pork or kalua pork There was seaweed on the beach (recent tropical storm), but we were warned before the taxi and offered multiple opportunities to cancel. The staff was taking seaweed all day long. We had so much fun, I'm very glad we didn't cancel. I'm coming back for sure. I hope one day I'll get to see the clear water. read more

We visited in March of 2020...precovid. Our day spent at Maya Chan was one of the most relaxing excursions we have done. It is a small beach with perhaps 100 people allowed. We were provided two chairs, a table and a lounge bed. All were covered by a gazebo like cover. We were warmly greeted on arrival and shown where everything was. We met David, the owners son...who was there the entire time of our stay...checking in to be assured our needs were met. The drinks were top notch with many choices and many specialties. The food was plentiful and BEYOND amazing. All of it is fresh cooked on site! We had to sample a little bit of EVERYTHING. Sea Bass was the fresh catch of the day and was outstanding. The grounds were raked constantly ridding it of sea weed. The staff was constantly eager to help out...be it with floats, kayaks, paddle boats. Should we ever return to Puerto Costa Maya....Maya Chan will be our first stop!!! read more

After reading so many rave reviews we decided this would be a good place to spend a day of our cruise. We followed the directions and found the shuttle fairly easily. The van was pretty dumpy and EVERY light was in on the dash board (check engine, low gas etc). The road really wasn't that bumpy and it was a pretty ride. Once we got there the staff were very organized and welcoming. Our group of 6 were led to an area with 5 chairs and a bed. We asked for a 6th chair. All of the beach furniture was very weathered and rickety. I knew the place was rustic but I think it's time for new chairs. The water was as I expected. I knew they had a sea weed problem that is beyond their control. They did have staff raking it all day. We stayed in the water for about an hour but all 6 of us noticed we were getting itchy. I think it was from the sea weed. Because of the sea weed issue I would not return here. The staff were attentive, the food was great, the drinks were just OK. It's really too bad about the seaweed issue. The taxi returned at the time we had requested . They squeezed the six of us into a teeny suv. It made for a very squishy ride back. We later found out that a lot of cruise guests never made it out of port that day because of an issue with the local government and taxi's. read more

Prior to going on our cruise to Mexico last week, we looked online for beach resorts in Costa Maya. Maya Chan was rated with over 1000 Five Star reviews, so needless to say we booked and we could not have been happier with the experience. Emails regarding the reservation process were clear and helpful, fully describing where to meet the transportation provided. On the day of our arrival, we were greeted by a staff member who fully disclosed a few issues that apparently were problems to prior guests- the long and bumpy ride and the sea grass on the beach. We were asked, "do you still want to go?" Very cool to have this info provided in advance so you can change your mind if necessary. Once we arrived at Maya Chan, we were greeted immediately by David who gave us a full tour of the resort. There are fresh water showers, lockers for your valuables, beach toys, snorkeling gear, a super cool treehouse, private massage tables, lots of private guest areas including covered seating and a relaxation bed, and finally the dining/ bar area. Let me just say, this area is so naturally inviting on the beach and the staff who work there are just as fabulous. Joel and Andi were super fun and talented bartenders who were more than willing to chat with you playfully as long as you wanted to! Bruno was also amazing in helping us if we happened to need assistance away from the bar, even bringing us drinks on our floating chairs in waste deep water! Lunch was a glorious assortment of steak, marinated chicken, sea bass and pork which had been cooked in banana leaves- all served with a delectable variety of sauces, cheese, onions, cilantro and soft tacos. Everything was freshly prepared that day by the cutest little woman (sorry I never knew your name!) We hated to leave this lovely and charming rustic beach getaway. It was peaceful and perfect. Just go and let the relaxation take you away from it all.... read more

Let me say that I have been to Costa Maya a few times on cruises and always struggled to find something to do. The town is pretty small, and the cruise line excursions usually take you far away on buses. Maya Chan is a revelation, the level of service provided is unprecedented at any " beach break" destination. You are greeted just outside the cruise port by a Maya Chan representative who arranges a taxi for you down to the resort. One thing that cannot be stressed enough is that the road is underdeveloped and the 4 1/2 mile can ride takes ~30 minutes depending on driver and that days road conditions. We were initially skeptical because of the cab ride down. When we arrived at the resort we were greeted by more Maya Chan employees who assisted us getting in the resort (one member in our party is mobility limited) and gave us the tour. Amenities (A+): The resort features about a dozen Palapas (grass roof huts) that are designed for different size parties. Palapas are booked by group, and each group generally gets its own Palapa. The way the owner described it was if they have all small groups, they're booked at 30, but obviously hold more if there are larger groups some hold more than 10 people. Each palapa has a beach bed, hammock, and some tables and chairs. The resort features kayaks, paddle boards, and floating chairs, in addition to a sun deck/diving platform out at the edge of the swimming area. There is a birds nest/tree house with charging cables for your electronics, that provides a great view of the beach. They offer complimentary wifi, use of snorkeling gear and water shoes, showers, and restroom facilities. Lunch and open premium bar are also included. Food and drink (A+): all of your drinks are included, they use premium spirits including (to name a few) Cazadores, 100 años, and many more. The frozen drinks we had did not appear to be made with mix, they brought us all a round of Miami Vice (half piña colada half daiquiri) made with fresh strawberry and fresh coconut. They had coconut drinks, rum punch, and would make pretty much anything you wanted to order. They had ~8 different beers to choose from. The lunch was a taco buffet that featured Arachara (marinated skirt steak), Cochinita Piblil (marinated pork), chicken, fish (I believe a local whitefish) with Charro Beans (like baked bean soup) and all the fixings (fresh guacamole, pico de gallo, and Habanero salsa, all served on freshly hand made flour or corn tortillas warmed up on the griddle. The buffet was prepared before our eyes, all you can eat, and the food was absolutely delicious. Service (A+): The service provided by David and the rest of the staff at Maya Chan was a revelation. Food was amazing, hot and fresh, we were taken care of from port to resort and back. Our drinks never ran dry, although there was a server assigned to our Palapa, several members of the staff were making the rounds making sure we had everything we needed throughout the day. When we were out in the swimming area in floats they Kayaked or waded out to us to take drink orders and deliver drinks. They have massage services available at a very reasonable price ($25 per half hour or $45 per hour) which we did not take advantage of this time, but definitely will next time. I was a little worried about getting back to the ship on time, and they made sure we were back with time to spare, listing the last taxi back time, and making sure to let guests know when they are 15-10-5 minutes away from their requested departure time. We were a little uneasy, so we scheduled our departure an hour or so before the "last call" time and we're back to the ship more than 2 hours before all aboard. Overall impressions (A+): Our experience at Maya Chan makes me rethink my future cruises, and we will consider booking cruises that go through Costa Maya just to get back there. My one piece of advice for you is that while tipping is not "required" and at no point we're we pressured to do so, they have a tips box at the exit that you will want to make sure you have cash to stuff it with. THEY EARN EVERY BIT OF IT. Thanks, Maya Chan, for an awesome Mahahual experience! read more

Just got back from our cruise and Maya Chan and it did not disappoint! We loved the chips and salsa and guacamole upon arrival they were delicious! The service was amazing and it was so relaxing! The food is AMAZING! That sea bass with the garlic lemon was to die for, they said to try all the meats and none of them disappointed! I almost hate to write this review, because I don't want my favorite place get overcrowded. Maya Chan Beach is absolutely incredible! The staff is amazingly accommodating and friendly. The food and drinks are abundant and delicious. The very best thing though, is how relaxing this place is. Decided we wanted a quiet out of the way place to have a relaxing day after we disembarked our cruise in Costa Maya. I saw this on Trip Advisor prior to leaving and set up our reservation. It's owned by husband & wife, David & Jane and along with their son and a few more very special people make sure you have a GREAT experience. Absolutely top of the line customer service & facilities! We were greeted just outside the the cruise area by some wonderful people who make sure you get to Maya Chan Beach. They knew our names & got us on our way quickly-even had a little goody bag for us. (I had requested a little something special for hubby initially, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was waiting for us for the drive to the beach. (big points scored!) Arrived to a quaint, lovely, natural spot not far out of town. There, we were greeted by the laid back, have fun, enjoy it all "concierge". (I'm sorry I have forgotten his name-too many cervezas & Maya Chan Cocktails) After bringing us into the bar area explained where everything was & what was available to us & when lunch was to be served. We then were taken to our private palapa area which included an outdoor bed, 2 lounge chairs w/a small table in between and a much needed natural umbrella. We settled in and saw that they had a bucket of beer iced down and some fresh guacamole & chips for us. WOW! Right on time. Jane came by after we settled in, made sure we were comfortable and served us their special Maya Chan cocktail- which was FABULOUS!!. Hubby asked David, co-owner, who was in the outdoor bar area, if we could watch The Master's later on and we were accommodated. Very friendly, courteous, open people. Lunch was an open buffet of local foods & it , too was wonderful. Fresh grilled fish, marinated grilled flank steak & chicken along with all the trimmings to make your own fajitas, or tacos. The seasonings & sauces were delectable. The bartender was very fun & mad excellent drinks. This is a covered but open airy "tiki bar" on the property that they run. Fresh outdoor showers available after your done in the ocean-snorkeling gear, rafts, kayaks and more available for all to use. Shortly after we sat & drank & ate & drank some more, a masseuse came around and asked if we wanted massages. We both eagerly said yes & we both had a wonderful 1 hour massage in a quiet cool area away from all the others. The really great thing about this little hideaway is that they only accommodate a certain amount of people; all groups have their own area & you're not anywhere near the others. Great for intimate conversations & relaxing. Throughout the day our bucket of beer was refreshed, when we went out in the ocean on our rafts, they came out & served us drinks there & catered to us all day! This is a VACATION! We will definitely go back and want to thank them all for the wonderful time we had. read more
