I was here in October 2022. I stay for three nights. I booked a private room for myself because I didn't want to catch Covid. The location is really convenient, usually walkable to everywhere. Walkable away from a bunch of restaurants, walkable to the beach, walkable to the marina, walkable downtown for more restaurants. It was clean and safe. One thing I have to complain is that they make you leave your ID or pay 20 pesos. Your IDs are not secure and they leave it in a binder on top of the counter where anybody can take it. Their breakfast as crap. She saw me on hotcakes waffles and sausage and bacon so I bought four days a breakfast. They only serve toast, old fruits, and cereal.

Don't get it twisted, baybee! This is not your typical hostel, more like a private hotel! Mayan Monkey was the BEST hostel experience I've ever had so far when traveling. Located right on the Marina with balcony views of the water, this hostel truly serves as a one-of-a-kind property. The hostel offers a hotel-like class space with a state-of-the-art kind of décor and amenities. My favorite part of the hostel is that offers several private rooms with balconies that overlook the marina and the Senor Frog restaurant. During my recent trip to Cabo, I decided to choose the Mayan Monkey as it was central to everything I wanted to do during my trip. I got a fantastic deal for less than $400 for 5 days and 4 nights. I had room #113 which was a balcony view with a double bed and private bathroom; now, for a hostel experience it worked out! I would encourage you to NOT stay on the side of the Senor Frog as the music plays loud until almost 1 AM. Upon arriving in the building, I must admit that it was very discouraging to arrive and must climb up 3 flights of stairs after they informed me that the elevator was not working; what if they have a guest in wheelchairs? I don't get it. I guess this hotel wouldn't be accessible to people in wheelchairs. However, once I did arrive and enter, I was greeted with such a warm welcome, it almost made my heart melt. I was provided with all the information needed for breakfast. I was excited to hear that I had free breakfast every day from 7-10 AM, as well as check out, was at noon; BINGO! Sadly, I was not able to wake up in time and missed breakfast during my whole stay; BOO! Mayan Monkey ensures you do not misplace your key by placing a yellow bracelet around the arm which is also used as your key to getting inside the room. They provide various activities throughout the day to ensure that people have a great time to explore the marina, everything from hiking, to kayaking and more! There is a kitchen if you want to store your belongings, also there is a nice mid-size pool if you didn't want to go to the main beach to enjoy the water. There is also a personal hotel bar outside as well! The best part of the hotel was the housekeeping experience. Every phuckin' morning I came back to a nicely made room and new towels. Overall, a wonderful stay and an amazing location near everything in downtown! I would absolutely stay here again!

Excelent! We have just got back from our trip to Cabo and we stayed at Mayan Monkey Hostel. Our room had a balcony and we could have an amazing view from the marina. It's right in front of it! It's super clean and new. Our room was super clean, with towels, nice tv, nice mirror, safe and even travel size shampoo and conditioner. It was outstanding for the price we paid for it. And they have a bracelet with chip it works as a key for the room and also to the main door (to have access inside the hostel), super nice! It works great! We could see the shared bunk beds and it look super nice and clean. Everyday you can have breakfast (cereal, fruits, coffee, eggs, juice) for free or a small price like 3 bucks, I'm not sure. There is a pice pool with beach chairs, a bar, kitchen... it's amazing! I swear! The only thing: there is no fridge in the rooms believe. In our we didn't have it. But again, for everything else is a 5 star place in Cabo San Lucas! The location is fantastic and the staff super nice! Right on Sr. frogs. I will definitely go back!!!!!

Mayan Monkey was the perfect Hostel for our Valentine's Day weekend stay . The location was convenient and centralized location for our needs (food, excursions, activities, beach, etc) where a car was not needed . The customer service was great. At times there was issues what the language barrier but we worked it out . Hospitality was the key and the staff met our needs . We enjoyed the social activities and the pool . The price is rental and of course we booked a private room with the balcony facing the water . The WiFi on the smart tv needs to improve but we managed . Our next visit to Cabo, we definitely make Mayan Monkey our hostel private room stay . read more
THIEVES! CREDIT CARD FRAUD!!! I went to Mayan Monkey in November and they charged me TWICE! It has been almost 8 months and they still have not given a refund. Do not let them ROB you at the counter! Here is what they did to me. I arrived to check-in, and the worker said my card was "denied." I tell him I purchased through Priceline and I see the money taken from my bank statement, as well as my processed reservation. He says my card associated with my reservation declined, and that he needs to charge another card. I show him AGAIN that my bank was charged, and my bank account has plenty of money. He tells me that my card was denied, and I ask him for the last 4 digits of the card he's talking about. Those are not the last 4 digits of ANY card I own. So I tell him he must be looking at someone else's reservation. Even the reservation number was different. This was OBVIOUSLY not my reservation he was looking at. He was rushing and being sloppy because the check-in line was long. He continues to claim my card was denied, and refused to check me in without running another card. I give him another card and keep a receipt. I called Priceline and they had no idea why Mayan Monkey said a card declined, because it showed as confirmed and processed on their end. This guy clearly made an error when looking up my reservation. The last day of my stay at check-out, I go to the counter. It's a new guy, ULISES MONTANO, and when checking me out, he sees that they charged me TWICE! He pulls up my Priceline reservation that was already paid for (which the first guy did not see), and he sees that I was charged separately. I was right all along. My initial reservation was paid for. He tells me they can process a refund, but since there's a long line of people waiting to check-in, he asks that I fill out a form and he'll have the office process it another time so he can check other people in. I agree, and follow up with him via email. I have been emailing Ulises Montano for MONTHS and they still never refunded my stay. Again, I was charged TWICE and they still have not refunded me. These people are thieves, and I think they are pocketing the second transaction. Stay somewhere else. The last email I got from Ulysses was December 19th, 2023. It is now July 16, 2024. I am attaching his last email. I responded that SAME DAY with my bank details for the wire transfer for my refund. I have not heard back, and I never received the wire. I think he took my bank information for fraud. I have sent him almost 10 emails since. No response. I also attached info@mayanmonkey.com, and no response still. I would give a higher rating if it weren't for this major inconvenience and lack of financial integrity. This one thing completely ruined the experience. I'm willing to give an updated review considering the things I liked once this is resolved, if it's ever resolved, but for now, it's a 1 star. I cannot reward robbery. read more

This place was really good to me. I was flown to Cancun for work and first stayed at an all inclusive, then came here for a night to figure out where I would go for the next 2 weeks of my extended stay in the area. I wanted a solo-retreat-work- type experience and reviews were saying to "leave Cancun asap" and that this was a party hostel. I ended up staying my whole 2 weeks here! It had everything. Antonella led sunrise beach yoga every morning to start the day, which became my staple. The breakfast was great ( I tried almost everything), Renee usually helped me with breakfast and always brightened my day and remembered my name and how I liked my coffee. Dave who books tours knew so much and with his desk right by the passing point he became a friend if I wanted to ask a question or share about something I did. The beach is so close that I wouldn't even need my shoes to walk to it, then with the hostel being on the bay , it made watching the sunset over the water nice. As for it being a party hostel, it had the energy to meet and mingle and awesome bartenders, but was also quiet enough in the coworking space (with fast wifi) if I wanted to do that instead or feel like I was in both places at once. My room was quiet at night (you can tell them you want a room that isn't as close to the bar noise) and 3 of my other roommates in the 8-person dorm were also staying long term working remotely and loving it as much as me. Each night has activities to bring people together, my favorite was learning to dance from the professional dancers they bring in, but I also enjoyed the cooking class. I highly recommend and will be back. It had a good balance of everything and the staff was really kind and Rodrigo was helpful when I had a mishap which was very comforting. The managers are even around caring and making sure everyone is happy. I waited until my last night to bike the bike path to downtown and I loved how well lit it was and safe it felt. I met people from around the world, got to do laundry, and it was the perfect reset for my year before I went back home to winter. read more

Staying across the street at The Ridge @ Playa Grande. I would never suggest anyone over the age of 23 stay here. I wish I could explain just how loud their music is and it is nonstop. I have no clue what would make them think blaring EDM music from 8 PM - 2 AM is a place people want to return and spend money at. I feel horrible for the people staying here, especially with the rooms right next to the bar. Obviously appealing to those on a budget, but you won't be getting much sleep. read more

Total disregard for people staying here. Music from bar so loud I couldn't sleep. Didn't stop until 4 am. Maybe good for people that want to Party all night, but exhausting for everyone else. read more

The Mayan Monkey was good. There was a gal from another Mayan monkey there who was super great and clearly had herself together. The rest of the staff was pleasant. My first night I had to book separate because there weren't 4 nights linked in the same room available. The first night was a nightmare. There were a gang of hookers (an educated guess) getting dolled up in an unholy mess that erupted like Mauna Loa from their gigantor pink and sparkly luggage covering the literal entire floor in extra high heel strappy shoes, undies, silky things, makeup, lotions, potions, towels, empty packages of something or other... the contents of various other luggage items vomited out onto the beds which were obviously not planned to be used for sleeping. Ever. They did hair makeup, music and chatty chatty until well after midnight. Finally, at the crack of almost 1 AM, they torpedoed themselves into the waiting night leaving swirling, scented candles burning with the energy three devilish ladies left in their powdered, perfumed wake. The rest of the nights were quiet, clean and a decent nights sleep for being in the middle of Cabo. The breakfast is a screaming deal. The pool is delightful, the kitchen and fridge are adequate and the bar is lively. I'd definitely go again. read more

Absolutely horribly loud Monday night karaoke. Someone should shut this down. Staying at the Ridge next door. Painful!!!

This location is great! We will definitely stay here again when in Cabo. Rooms were big and roomy. Bathroom and shower were incredibly clean. Staff were great! read more
Mayan Monkey is the best hostel experience I've ever had! The staff are super friendly, there's free breakfast everyday (GOOD breakfast - like made-to-order eggs/omelets, pancakes, chilaquiles, as well as fruit, cereal, yogurt, etc.), free WiFi, room service everyday, a pool with poolside bar (which has very reasonably priced drinks), activities everyday like hiking, pool volleyball, snorkeling, etc. (which are all free unless they include a boat ride or transportation or something like that - even those are just $10-15)... I could go on, but the point is it's an extremely good value for the price you pay. I should note that not all reservations include breakfast but if yours doesn't, it's only 3 bucks and well worth it!! We stayed in a private room which had two queen beds, a private bathroom, a huge smart TV (so you could watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. with your own login + cable channels)... it was essentially a hotel at a hostel price. I got a glance into the bunk rooms too and they also looked super spacious and clean and those rooms are even cheaper. One more cool thing: they give you a wristband when you check in that has a chip in it that acts as your room key so you never need to worry about getting locked out, losing your key at the beach, etc. I would 10/10 recommend this place with no reservations whatsoever. read more
