First time ordering from Mayjah Grinds, and the food was... alright? The mochiko chicken was cooked really well, though. You have no idea how many restaurants here in the Springs overcook dark meat, so I definitely appreciated that. Flavor wise, though, nothing really stood out. It tasted a bit under seasoned for my preferences, but maybe that's just how it's meant to be. I was also a little confused by all the hype around the rice. It was literally just rice with furikake, which you can easily buy locally or online. The spam musubi was pretty plain too. Honestly, I can make better spam musubi at home. Overall, it wasn't bad by any means, but based on all the rave reviews, I was expecting a lot more. Oh well, at least I gave it a try based on someone's recommendation. Food: Legit Hawaiian poke bowl in CoS.They used fresh fish from Hawaii only & it is so delicious that I have to go back once a week since I first went. I was order garlic mahi with mac salad & green salad first. It is smell so good & big portion for $20! Their poke is so delicious(aka Ono, Broke da mouth in Hawaiian) & it has nothing to add on but fish, onion & some seasoning like spicy mayo or seaweed as it should be. Service: Ordered at the counter first then wait about 5 mins only for mix plate. But, I went on Friday late afternoon & not many people were there. Ambiance: Lovely Hawaiian music playing. Standards Hawaiian decor. Clean bathroom. Sum up: If you never think in CoS can have a fresh poke that almost good as my favorite one "Ono poke" near Waikiki on O'ahu. Please check Mayjah Grindz out. Jodell & Masao are very nice owners. They gave discount to Military & first responder, but charge 3% for credit card fees so please bring cashes. With discount & pay cash, it is so equivalent to what you pay for Poke on O'ahu! Despite they has to shipped the fish daily from the island 8 hrs direct flight from Denver! I am so delight that they exist in CoS & will be there as much as I can to support them because they brought me back to O'ahu, Hawaii where I had such an unforgettable experiences in May. What a great find!! Thank goodness for the COS Foodies FB page, where MG posted. When I saw the address, I said, HOLD UP, that's in my hood! I can bike here! For anyone who is from or has lived in the 808 or just loves island food, run, bike, or otherwise just get here. On my way home from midday Zumba on Peterson (IYKYK), I stopped in for my first taste on Friday, then surprised the hubs by bringing him for lunch here on Saturday. MG does all the island favorites in a very comforting, true-to-brand way. They don't get funky and try to "mainland-ize" their food. You really are transported to a locals-fave Hawai'i drive-in here. Everything from the decor, seating, music, food, and drinks (Hawaiian Sun) are authentic. On Friday, I got a Spam musubi, which I took home and ate right away. The sweet teriyaki combined with the salty Spam is on point. I added some furikake/sesame seeds at home for that extra oomph. If this came with egg, we would be in trouble because I'd be eating it every day, Hawai'i 7-Eleven style. Speaking of 7-Eleven, I propose that MG contract with Lion Coffee and serve up their delicious brews to make us feel even more at home, especially with that vanilla mac nut coffee. Note for military/first responders: don't forget to request your discount (I didn't even know this was a thing until after we'd already ordered Saturday). Note that there are daily specials and on Fridays and Saturdays (I'm hoping for a huli huli chicken soon), AND they serve fresh-made poke on these days! Today, they had ahi poke in spicy, shoyu, and limu (seaweed). I opted for a combo of spicy and limu, but they also give you the option of a meat plus poke combo. On Saturday, hubby ordered a loco moco (his favorite) combo with chicken katsu. I tried the katsu, which broke da mouth! He finished the loco moco before I could try, but he said it was very authentic. Note: you can have your egg cooked to your liking. It also came with a side of mac salad that was absolutely delicious and perfectly island style. I'm sad this place has been open since April and I'm just finding out (I drive by this center daily but have never stopped in here despite a liquor store and brewery). I had their poke bowl and it was really delicious and fresh! It reminded me of a Hawaiian bbq place in ca that had fresh poke like that. It only comes with white rice and not other toppings but it is filling. Keep in mind the poke is only served on Friday and Saturday too. I'll be back in the future for their poke. read more
