came here because a friend wanna try this place. not my preferred place (after reading reviews) but im open to taste it and have my own thoughts. place has a nice decor and ambience. fast and attentive service. ordered lamb medium rare and yogurt brulee. lamb was juicy but it's a bit tough & hard to cut. the salad that comes with it is overly sour-cannot taste the veggie itself (i have never eat sour salad before. maybe this is how armenian eat it. my friend who tolerate sour better than me also commented the same). yogurt brulee is good. different/unique. but nothing wow. overall it's a good experience but not a place i'll be going back. read more

We chose Mayrik to host my grandmother's 90th birthday and we are so glad that we made the decision. The space was very clean, they were playing Armenian music in the background the whole time, and the staff was very friendly + accommodating. The owner was also there and made sure the night went very smooth The food was also amazing, everyone loved the appetizers. We went with the trilogy dips w/ pita, then ordered some sarma, falafel & kubbe to go with a fatoush salad. For our main dish we got an assortment of all the meats, which were also very tasty. This was my first time going to an Armenian restaurant, so my standards have been set exceptionally high! Our waiter was personable. From the moment we sat down, he explained to us the history behind the restaurant and its Armenian culture. I have never had mante before, but the idea of Armenian dumplings with yogurt, mint, and sumac sounded divine. It basically tasted like kabob dumplings in a creamy Mediterranean yogurt. Simple, yet exquisite. We also ordered the Karnoug. These lamb chops were cooked perfectly and marinated with charmoula. The labneh and shishito peppers added a nice touch to this dish. For a side, we ordered the batata hara. These potatoes were a bit bland as we were hoping for a fully zaatar seasoned potato. The yogurt brûlée for dessert was a perfect way to redefine a popular French dessert with an Armenian twist. read more

Super cute spot. We had an amazing dinner here. Food was great and the knafeh was amazing to end the meal with. Service was outstanding.

Have lived in the neighborhood for many years but never got around to trying Mayrik until now. I don't think we have been missing much. Firstly the service was not very attentive. There were three total tables when we sat down and one table was soon having dessert and then gone leaving only two tables including ours. Still the food was very slow to arrive including a salad that required no cooking and a steak done rare that couldn't have taken more than five minutes. (More on this later). What we had: fatoush salad -- pretty good, whole sea bass butterflied and deboned expertly -- very good, ribeye steak ordered medium rare but arrived rare. We didn't send it back because we were so hungry from waiting and both of us were ok with rare although our preference would've been another minute on the grill. And four whole peppers seasoned and roasted on the grill. The peppers were tasty but one of them was a little suspect with some graying and "bruising" in parts indicating it wasn't as fresh as it should be. We didn't take our chances with that one. Also a bit nit picky here but for the price we paid would it be too much to ask you to core the peppers so we don't spend all that time picking out the seeds? The rib eye was a good size and quality but a vein of gristle rendered part of it inedible. And there was the matter of doneness as noted above. The fish was the highlight of the meal lightly seasoned and perfectly cooked. All dishes were enough for two to share. Not sure what you'd do if you had four. One last bone to pick. The rib eye was a special it was $65, a full $20+ higher than the NY strip loin on the regular menu. Waitress didn't note the price difference I assumed it would be +$10 at most as many steak houses price the two cuts about the same. Total meal for two was about $170 including tax and tip. No drinks just tap water. Not worth it. read more

Strip away the fancy fine dining facade from Mayrik and what do you get? Awesome food!!! I know a lot of people say the place and service are amazing, so can't wait to dine here. But my first experience with Mayrik was through delivery, and it actually made me appreciate the food without all the glitz: - The octopus was wrapped in green leaf and bathed in this buttery sauce that just accentuated the milky sweetness of the meat. This was easily my favourite dish. - The roasted cauliflower had this really tasty dressing, which was great but would have liked more of it. Oh so close to being otherworldly! - The muhhamara had a good kick to it, though would have preferred a bit more walnuts. - The pita bread was fat and dense, almost like pizza dough. If this is what Mayrik tastes like when it's not at its best, sign me up for more! read more

Mayrik serves Armenian dishes that are inspired by Chef Sebouh Yacoubian's maternal kitchen, but updated with his own flair. For example, octopus ($32) isn't something that you normally find on Armenian menus, but Mayrik prepares it excellently, on account of Chef Yacoubian's lineage with the Greek Mamakas Tavern. It's tender enough that a dinner knife slides through easily and grilled lovingly so the seafood develops a smokiness and the tendrils become crispy. Both meaty and delicate, the octopus is simply seasoned, but add some of the mild harra sauce and it gets even better. Sitting on a bed of eech, a bulgur wheat salad, I can't say it really compliments the octopus, but I guess isn't a terrible choice either. The eech just seems to be missing something - more salt and even some of the tabouli would be nice. The babaghanoush ($8) is the healthiest and freshest version I've ever tasted, the base merely well-roasted eggplant with a splash of olive oil and seasoning. Topped with a tabouli that's equal parts parsley and bell peppers with a light splash of lemon, it helps to give the dish some crunch and freshness. The pink ribbons is a date tahini adding an element of sweetness while the pine nuts fairly neutral creating something to chew on. Each dip arrives with two toasted pitas that are freshly prepared and hot - be careful when pulling these babies apart. The bread really hits the spot and would be even better if some of the dried parsley is substituted with salt. Surprisingly, it's the humble shawarma ($26) that elicit the most excitement at the table. A stunning affair with another hot fresh pita (thinner and more toasted) that's topped with decadently oily and tender pulled lamb neck ... make sure you have a piece of the meat solo before adding any accompaniments... it's so good. read more

We were strolling down Bayview on a recent sunny Sunday and hoping to find a spot on one of the street's many patios, when we stumbled upon Mayrik. There just happened to be a private little table free, so we quickly asked if we could sit there. A quick perusal of their brunch menu led me to the Soujoukh Benedict, as I ate quite a bit of soujoukh (a Middle Eastern sausage) growing up and I wanted to see what it would be like in the context of a very North American dish. It's good, really good. The best part of the dish is the soujoukh itself, which, though not terribly spicy, contains exactly the kind of bold flavors I've always associated with the sausage. It's been cooked perfectly and served atop a couple of English muffins and covered in rich hollandaise. All the components are definitely of an above average quality, although I will say that the whole thing might be just a little too rich; the dish could probably have used some hot sauce or something acidic to cut through that intense hollandaise. The accompanying potatoes were fine, and I ate all of them, but a homemade ketchup or some kind of sauce would have kicked them up another notch. We also started with the Babaghanoush, which was definitely quite impressive. The hot, fresh bread perfectly accompanied a delicious, different variation on a classic dish, with the decision to incorporate dates into the concoction certainly elevating it above your standard babaghanoush. We had been really looking forward to coming here every time we are visiting family in the area as we have tried a variety of middle eastern/ Mediterranean type food and the food looked so good. So why am I giving it a 2 star?? Well for starters it was really uncomfortably cold inside but kept the jackets on and we were willing to make a night of it hoping the place or us would warm up. The service or disconnect with the kitchen or whatever caused a ridiculous delay of over 1 hour and 10 minute to even get a cold humus appetizer was unreal. We hate to complain so just kept waiting hoping for the best drinking our wine and ordered more drinks. I was ready to just pay for our drinks and leave at this point but the hubby decided to ask the waitress again and point out that the table beside us who got there well after us had their appetizers and food already?!! No explanation, really, let me check wire your order is on the list with kitchen?? 10 min later finally had humus and waited another 10 to get the cheese appetizer. This was 1 hour and half after being seated for cold prepared humus?!!! Humus was really fresh and good could have used a bit of olive oil drizzle or fresh nuts or garnish but was good. The cheese akawi appetizer could have been a bit more crusty but was good too. So I was at least a bit happy that the wait and the freezing temperature inside wasn't for nothing and was hopeful for a promising main dishes and sides. Here's where things went sideways again. Another long wait to get our mains only to find the food cold. And I mean cold not just room temperature, cold fish and cold ground beef skewer and sides, wth come on the kitchen is within reach and how do you serve hot food cold AF and think it's acceptable??!! Beyond dissatisfied and by this point we really should have sent it back or complained but like I said we dine out a lot and and come from family of restauranteurs and by nature try to do our best to enjoy the experience the best and not complain but this is the closest I've come to doing so and was going to pay for drinks and walk out and down or up the street to many of the other available restaurants. Now as for the quality of the fish it was a good grilled or broiled fish however sadly beyond cold and not seasoned with any bit of salt, herbs, butter or any flavor at all. The ground beef skewer was good quality ground beef but again lacked moistness or flavor. Most of these Mediterranean kabobs have onions, parsley, salt, their own unique seasoning and are very moist and nicely charred outside, melt in your mouth to differentiate them between just ground beef patty equivalent of fast food burger shaped differently. This was none of those and again cold AF. Come on you are not a takeout average or low quality cheap food and sadly some of those franchise like places serve better more flavorful type of ground beef skewers?!!! The side mushrooms dish had good flavor but was really cold and the potatoes were too greasy because again cold and no unique flavor to make it a must order or even comparable to cheap franchise frozen fries?!! My advice to the restaurant, owner, manager who ever that may care to actually hear an honest opinion to improve the dining experience and flavor profile and to hopefully avoid our experience for any customer, please read the review and make sure our experience is never again repeated despite your potential ratings or clients. We are avid diners and venture to all kinds of places always as a couple a few times a week and with family and friends. But unfortunately, instead of booking you next week to come back with family as was our intention for finally trying your restaurant which was on our list, we are not sure if we should even try it another time ourselves to see if that was a one off. Can't in good faith recommend or bring family here if we end up with the same experience knowing there are other places that have same type of cuisine , price point but much better. You have to organize your service and kitchen coordination better so not only diners are getting their food in adequate time but you also cannot serve absolutely next day take out cold temperature food and need to elevate your flavor profile to be comparable to others in area or same cuisine and price point. Just leaving an honest review, spent $200 and despite everything still tipped 20%. So this isn't a being cheap, complaining for the sake of and being picky, like I said we frequent lots of restaurants and give honest feedback and this is one of the first bad reviews as felt bad complaining or letting you know in front of other diners there. Will we go back?? Honestly not sure I'm a believer of second chances and hoping for best but I was ready to leave so don't want to ever be put in the same awkward situation where I'm spending my time and money but have a bad experience and then feel bad giving negative feedback. read more

Friend suggested we try this place as he lives in the area. It had nice ambiance and our waitress was amazing. She gave us a good walkthrough of the menu and was very thoughtful in moving us from high top to low top table once it was available and before we started our meal. We shared various plates amongst our group and everything was delicious! I really enjoyed the lamb and dumplings. As for the dips, my favorite was the hummus. This is one of our go to spots when going out with friends or special day celebrations. Portion sizes are generous and just enough to satisfy all. Flavourful, visually pleasing, sure to satisfy all the senses. Jingyalov Hatz which is Armenian Flatbread was so good. Sea Bass was grilled to perfection, with nice crispy skin. 4.5/5 Really solid dining experience at this swanky and modern establishment. Service was excellent, with high attention to detail and good etiquette throughout our dinner. We went when it was not as busy and it got a lot more full by the time we were finishing our meal. So that's likely a contributing factor to the extra attention, but credit where credit is due. 5/5 on the service side of things. Food took slightly longer than I anticipated. But it wasn't too alarming or drastic. The hit of the night was surprisingly the fatoush salad. Common theme here is the ingredients they use are extra fresh and that's very clear as you taste each dish. The lamb was spot on and well cooked. The eggplant dish was good too, although I'm not sure I would try that again. We've had better in that category at Byblos for instance. Potato dish was lighter on the zaatar than I would have liked. It was good overall though as well. All in all the the food is a 4/5 with our overall dining experience checking out to with the current rating of 4.5/5. I would return here, but only after trying many other spots in the area. There's been a flurry of new restaurants that have come up and I'm glad to see the bar being raised in Toronto with the competition. I still appreciate the uniqueness of the dishes at Mayrik. Enjoyed it overall. One downside (at least for us) is the menu is very beef dominant. If you don't eat beef you'll limit your options slightly. But 4 dishes will stuff 2 people. So there's still enough there to select from. Expect to pay roughly $150 per couple with a drink each. That's par for course and very reasonable for this dining experience. read more

The food and service here are good. However, I will not be coming back and this is simply because this is the only restaurant I've been to that forces you to order side dishes with your main. I eat at plenty of fancy restaurants and I don't see this anywhere else. For $34, I expect at least some vegetables with my grilled seabass - not just a piece of lemon. Oh My Goodness - I found my new fav middle eastern restaurant in midtown! My friend Chris and I had dinner at this little restaurant near Bayview and Eglinton the other day and absolutely adored it. The restaurant had an Ossignton/Queen West feel to it versus the typical uptown restaurant feel which was a nice change. The space: it's an intimate restaurant that seats maybe 30~40 people? The open kitchen anchors one side of the restaurant, while sleek black tables and chairs fills the other. What I love about the space is really the open kitchen and the beautiful tiles they put on the bar. Outside of the physical space, the staff at the restaurant is welcoming and warm, makes you feel just like home. The food: Yum! That's all I gotta say. Mayrik serves up Armenian food, with dishes that can also be found in Lebanese and Greek restaurants. It's not a cheap meal, but it's worth it. Chris and I decided to share everything so that we can both eat more dishes. We started off with the fatoush salad ($18), which was super refreshing, followed by their babaganoush ($8) which had chunks of eggplant still in it topped off with pomegranate. For our mains, we chose to share Karnoug aka lamb chops ($34) OMG SO GOOD! Served with roasted cauliflowers ($14). Both of us enjoyed a drink, which brought our bill to about $150 after tax and tip. So not the cheapest meal out there...but oh so worth it! If you're uptown and am craving some Mediterranean food, I highly recommend you give Mayrik a shot. You won't be disappointed. read more

3.5 stars Mayrik is restaurant in the Leaside area serving up Armenian, Greek and Lebanese cuisine. Chef Yacoubian's vision is on having people eat the way he did growing up - meaning lots of shared plates over wonderful conversation. The menu recently changed and I got a chance to try some of their new plates. The Kibbeh Nayeh ($16) is a traditional Lebanese mezze. Beef tartar is seasoned with lemon, green onions and Armenian pepper paste. The beef tartar was tender and the seasoning made it quite savoury and tangy with just a slight bitter aftertaste. The puffed bulgur added a nice texture to the dish. The tartar was accompanied with warm, house made bread. A very good dish. The Byureg ($14) was absolutely spectacular. The flatbread was wonderfully doughy and chewy and was topped with akawi and haloumi cheese, mint, dill and pickled shallots. The result was an exquisite blend of cheesey, tangy and herby flavours rolled into one bite. I loved that everything was perfectly balanced with none of the flavours overpowering the other. If eating here, please order this! The Bardez ($14) is another item new on the menu. Made with a mix of wild oregano, wild leeks, green onion, pickled red onions, turnips and chickpeas, it had a fresh herby flavour with a slight acidity to it but didn't seem very special. The chickpeas did add a nice crunch to the salad though. We also ordered the Tsoug ($32). The fish was a Greek Mediterranean white fish which was grilled whole and then butterflied head to tail, after which it was de-boned and it and dressed in olive oil and zaatar. The fish itself was mediocre - a little on the dry side and did not have a fresh fish flavour - but it was wonderfully seasoned. The zaatar gave it a woodsy, herbal, citrusy flavour and the pickled beets that were paired with the fish also added some flavouring. It was ok but I would probably order something else the next time. If you're looking for something different, Mayrik is a great choice. The restaurant has an elegant downtown vibe to it and is an excellent addition to the Leaside area. Service was fabulous and overall, food was good, albeit a little more expensive than I'm used to for Mediterranean. The Mante dumplings were sold out when I visited but I am very interested in coming back to try this Turkish staple. read more

I was so hopeful for this restaurant ... with very positive yelp reviews and listings in best new restaurants, I would think this be as good as Tanto or Bar Sybanne. I'm not sure if it's a case of a bad night with poor service and missed dishes or "the emperor has no clothes". I honestly feel a 3 Star is on the generous side for my experience. Before I dive into the review, I do have to wonder why Mayrik refuse to put up a menu... even if its a sample one (like Buca) when their menu changes often. It just helps so much. In Leaside, Mayrik sits on a nice quiet street with many other small restaurants and boutiques. I feel Mayrik is a little different as it has more of a modern edge with a feel that normally you'd see on King St. It's mostly white walls are accented by interesting tiles framing the open kitchen and charcoal woods. If you're a party of 2, expect to be jostled since you're awkwardly sat in the walkway right beside the tables along the wall. I've seen the staff and other patrons constantly hit the tables. If you're sat along the wall, it's better but there still isn't a lot of space. One thing that stands out immediately is the staff... we easily counted 7 people on the floor from the hostess to the servers. For a smaller restaurant, this was a surprise. Tanto only had 4 and service was impeccable. Bar Sybanne maybe had 3 and it was still very strong. Here ... it was really lacking. From the moment we sat to the moment we asked for the bill... we constantly waited, made eye contact with every service person, and waited some more. I've never seen 5+ people totally and actively ignore a table clearly ready to capture someone's attention. I do feel with such a heavy staff, service should have been one of the best in the city instead it's one of the unfortunate worst in the past year. I did read a bit about Armenian cusine and they said they use more fresh herbs in addition to garlic and salt to season. In our dishes, everything except the soujouk tasted muted and underseasoned. I'm not sure what went wrong but flavours seemed lacking. Babaghanoush - a different and interesting take on the traditional eggplant mezzo dip. Instead of puréed, it is mashed so it leaves more of the eggplant soft and intact. The flavour was muted and quite subtle... almost feel like it was under seasoned. The one frustration is that they give you a sizeable portion with a tiny warmed up flat bread. It's the size of a tea cup plate. We maybe only ate 40% before running out of bread ... if you want another tiny bread, it's $5 extra. My rec is to either give another bread so the table can eat most of the dip and reasonably charge for the extra bread ($13 for dip and 3 tiny breads seem much) or reduce the dip amount to suit the bread size and reduce the cost. 3/5 Mante dumplings - we had similar looking ones at Byblos but Mayrik ones are quite different. These dumplings do not have a supple thin wrapping. They're quite heavy and bready. They cradle a drier meat (seems like beef) that was more similar to a dry burger patty. Though it had yogurt and dried spices dashed on top, this too seemed under seasoned and very subtle in flavour. It just tasted like a bready mini dry burger. It was missing the bold flavours we've had previously at Byblos. 2/5 Soujouk sausage - the only dish of the night to have a flavour that captured our interest. The sausage and stewed (braised?) tomatoes had a good spice kick that balance on sweet, lightly tangy, and flavourful spice. It did come with a tiny bread again ... definitely not enough to eat all the tomato that comes with it. 4/5 Qarnabit roasted cauliflower - I've seen this at Fat Pasha and a few other places. This one was ok... with the roasting, it added a nice nuttier flavour to the vegetable but I felt the stem was still very hard to cut into and not quite cooked through. Though it supposed to have garlic, cheese, and cilantro on top, the flavour was not coming from them but only mostly from the roasting. 2/5 Fasolia green beans - green beans in tomatoes, garlic, and shallots. These green beans were quite al dente... id say they were lightly blanched. I'm not sure if it was intended that way but what happens then the beans don't absorb any flavour ... they had none of the tomato taste. So it just tasted like plain raw beans. I like vegetables but I know a lot of people would like seasoned vegetables at least. 3/5 One thing I didn't like so much was the staff offering extra bread as if on the house and never mentioning it was $5 extra. We had to double check before the brought it out to see if it was an additional cost. Just seemed a little underhanded. I feel if you want a great night out for Mediterranean food, Byblos and Bar Sybanne offer wonderful flavours and service. I just feel Mayrik had the popular crowded atmosphere but missing in delivery of taste and service. Don't let the hype fool you ... like it did to me. read more

Best restaurant on the Bayview strip. There's a great mixture of gourmet artistry and ethnic cooking here... and I've been a fan of Mayrik since its opening pre-pandemic. We went yesterday during Winterlicious, and they did a decent job compressing their creative menu into something translatable for lower prix fixe prices. Thankfully they survived COVID, but the last couple of times I haven't been certain they are keeping up their service standards. But I hope they live and continue to learn. read more

I'm gonna get straight to the punch line - hands down the best lamb chops in TO! Now that we've got that outta the way, over to the other goodness in store here: a short menu with enough options to exercise your choice with ease than pages to be overwhelmed by. Every item on the menu (incl. the cocktails) brings a burst of flavour. Amongst other must-haves are the roasted cauliflower (w/pearls of pomegranates and pine nuts) and the refreshing fattoush. Apart from good wine paired with the chops, the Mayrik signature cocktail is delicious and a must try for its kick of pepper! The place has a relaxed vibe. It's suitable for a date or just hanging out with friends (especially on the patio). I liked that it wasn't too loud, which made it a great spot for good conversation. The staff is very courteous and knowledgeable. I was extremely happy with the entire restaurant experience - enough to share that: - this was my second time (the first time I was much in awe of the food to take pics. I was busy relishing each bite) - apparently they have a brunch menu (see attached pic) which looks phenomenal! Can't wait to try and review that. For now, give this a go - it's worth it! read more

Unusually delicious Armenian/Middle Eastern food. The meats (chicken, lamb) were are all unimaginably tender and delicious. Mediterranean grill done perfectly. Everything is made from scratch in house, and you can tell. The kibideyé (specially prepared minced raw beef) was some of the best I've had. The freshness of the ingredients combined with the love required to prepare good Armenian food makes this place really stand out. The bread is made to order, and the babaghanoush compliments it perfectly. The staff was wonderful. Very friendly and attentive. Suggested we try Takar, a beautifully balanced Armenian wine. I've been here twice. It's very good Armenian cuisine that's done in a fine dining manner. The octopus was outstanding and cooked perfectly. Roasted vegetables with za'atar were fantastic. The Armenian style manti were absolutely delicious. I think that this restaurant is very smart with their marketing and knowing what bites with the neighbourbood (Leaside in this instance). Having a brunch menu that combines North American comfort food with Armenian flavours is genius, and it shows in the high amount of seats that were filled. read more

The waitresses remind me of horses with blinders on their eyes! You wave, call them over, make eye contact and they just walk past you. But this is not surprising seeing the behaviour of the man-child that calls himself the owner of this garbage place! We left after waiting for an hour for someone to come by to take our order. This was a blessing in disguise because we discovered a wonderful Thai place across the street with great staff who accommodated us last minute. Portions were very small, food is expensive and lacks in flavour. Wouldn't recommend. It used to be better.

Very poor service, short of staff and low-quality food. We were waiting for 1.5 hour to get our food. They failed to bring us the right order. The restaurant smelled very bad because of the smelly and dirty toilets inside. The prices were so expensive comparing to the food and service we received. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. read more

Went here for a special occasion based on the reviews. Mayrik definitely lives up to the hype and I advise it as a restaurant to try when people are looking for a new place to try. The staff was really and friendly and we spoke with the owner for a bit. Great food, ambiance and great staff. You will enjoy! read more

Ordered the vegetarian dinner, chicken and beef skewer as well as the hummus. Everything was just okay. The chicken skewers were pretty good but the beef skewers were quite chewy and one piece I found to be inedible. The texture was quite off putting. The 'fried potatoes' served with the dinner also could have used some seasoning. They were honestly just fries and for the price I would expect a bit more. Service was great and attentive, food & cocktails were delicious and flavourful. We had the baba ghanoush which came with these mini pitas with herbs on top - the pitas were delightfully warm & fresh. Also had the watermelon and haloumi salad which was good but a bit pricey for what it was. The roasted cauliflower and potatoes which were also great. Both the mayrik and hayrik cocktails were phenomenal - I loved the added touch of the grilled pineapple served on the moscow mule glass as it made for a yummy dessert :) read more
