This is first and foremost a place for ambiance, though the Mediterranean decor and bellydancing couldn't distract me from the less than desirable aspects of this establishment. The food here was okay, not authentically Moroccan (more than half the dishes were levantine, but I guess the average patron wouldn't know). The best dish of the bunch was the maftoul, which was simple yet tasty. On the other side of the spectrum the panna cotta was terrible, it had little to no flavour and an odd watery consistency. The service also left a lot to be desired, my biggest complaint was that it would take AGES for our food to arrive. In hindsight I understand why there were a lot of corporate gatherings when I was at the restaurant, especially attending around the holidays. When we were booking this place there was a lot of confusion , actually we wanted to bring a cake because we were cake our wedding anniversary, the lady on the phone said we will charge $30 extra . We called next day, we got someone else on the phone she said it's okay you can bring your cake . We reached the place and took the cake , they said we will charge extra, the server was very humble and says he will talk to the manager and said it's all good . Back in January during Winterlicious season, they had an amazing $65 3-course menu which includes a belly-dance performance! Usually there's a minimum spend if you want to be seated in "the Sultan's tent" for the performance, but for Winterlicious as long as you're there for the Winterlicious menu, that rule is out the window ‍ Here's what we got: Appetizer: Maftoul (Ground beef, raisins, cashews, pastry, Chipotle Aioli) - very interesting appetizer, it's kinda like a Big Mac spring roll LMAO Main: Braised Lamb Shank - HUGE Portions, comes with Sautéed vegetables, toasted cashews & your choice of rice, couscous or mashed potatoes. TBH, the first half was good, but after a while it tasted bland. Maybe it's the amount of cashews or mash potatoes, but I've had enough & don't think I'd order this again unless I have to share it with 3 other people. Dessert: not pictured but it was just chocolate cake with spiced orange syrup. Nothing out of the ordinary but still a good dessert to end the meal Last but not least, the belly dancing! This restaurant was beautifully decorated, and really carried through the theme well from floor to ceiling. The staff also play their part well, you feel welcome as soon as you step in and are greeted by the bar tender wearing tradition Moroccan clothing, and serving your beverage. He had some old world charm, and made for welcome conversation. I think there may have been one waiter for each side of the restaurant, becuase you could tell he was quite busy trying to tend to 40 people at different tables, so the service was slow. The appetizers were delicious, as were the main courses. We tried the beef spring rolls that had such robust and flavourful filling of ground meat. The hummus did not taste homemade, it tasted kind of store bought with extra tahini blended into it. The mains, were goat with rice and veggies, which did come with a tender fall off the bone piece of meat, and the tiger shrimp plate had 4 large shrimp, both dishes again well flavoured and quite enjoyable. Our wine and water wasn't topped throughout the night, but we were able to do it ourselves. And dessert as an epic fail. The baklava was over loaded with dry phyllo pastry, and a scant amount of filling. The rice pudding was quite thick and only tasted like cinnamon, I like my food a little more balanced and the rice pudding a little more runny. read more

we were looking for a new place to try out and Moroccan food sounded good so we decided to try it out. overall good food and nice ambiance but it was more moroccan-inspired versus moroccan food. we started off with the hummus with cake with fried, homemade bread; the hummus was decent and the bread really good. we then got the veggie tangine, the seafood tangine and the braise lamb shanks. my friend wanted the lamb tangine but that was not available and having that information prior would've been helpful. the food, flavor and portion size of each dish was really good. the couscous on both of the tangine absorbed the flavors well and the lamb shank was cooked nicely. overall good moroccan-inspired food in a nice ambiance with good customer service read more

This place is a gimmick. We knew that going in and were still disappointed. We were in the Sultan's Tent portion of the restaurant on a Sunday in the summer. It didn't get packed, though there were a decent amount of tables seated. Not sure if it ever gets packed? The food was fine and the drinks were okay. The belly dancer was... let's say she seemed like a beginner. Everything seemed overpriced for what this was. The server was friendly and helpful, maybe one of the few redeeming qualities. We were a group of four and we had an amazing time. The drinks flowed, the food was sumptuous and the service impeccable. Magdi welcomed us, and our waiter Dominic was the personification of the ambience that this unique experience exudes. I have eaten here a couple of times, but this our first visit in several years. We all had various dishes, from the shrimp to the crème brûlée and all were good. We ordered from the prix fixe menu, but did pay the extra for a couple of dishes. One of our group has some dietary restrictions and these were met willingly. The belly dancers were great. They gyrated and danced beautifully, and were very friendly and personable. I had Merguez Tajine which delightful, as by all accounts were the Moroccan beef stew, the filet, and the lamb shank. Chocolate cake and crème brûlée were classic and well executed. Avoid for special occasions if you can help it. Seating is extremely crammed, they take no precautions for seating you in cold areas. Also, seating near the entrance area have vents near your feet which will cause extremely discomfort in the colder months if you are dining in. Hosts are extremely rude and servers don't remember your orders or requests. Belly dancers are fun and engaging, probably the only good part. Food is mediocre at best, mocktails are just okay. Everything is overpriced and any prix fixe menu should be avoided. Ambience is extremely lacking, no volume control. Songs go from extremely loud to extremely quiet, just plain awkwardness in the entire experience. read more

My hubby and I went her for our anniversary and we had a great time! The server Chris was amazing and recommended dishes that were delicious and soooo flavourful! I've been to Sultan's Tent several times in various different occasions - lunch, dinner, big group event (where we had a section of the restaurant to ourselves), intimate dinner with a small group (seated under the tent), seated at regular table, with and without the belly dancing show, at the main restaurant, at the smaller cafe / bar downstairs, etc. I've also tried their special prix fix menus, Summerlicious, Winterlicious, and ordered from the regular a la carte menu. The atmosphere, fun ambiance, and decorative interior are really what make this restaurant stand out. They really try to make guests feel like they're in Morocco. One of my favourite visits was sitting under the tent, with evening entertainment of belly dancing. Now, on to the food. They're well known for their tajines (served in traditional tajines / earthware dishes, with aromatic saffron rice). There are vegetarian and seafood options. I've tried their vegetarian tajine before, which was a combination of chickpeas and vegetables, and it was decent. The fish (usually salmon) and shrimp dishes were alright - delicious but nothing too special. Cafe Moroc is the smaller cafeteria / bar-style seating area downstairs. We were seated near the window (the last time I went there), and the ambiance was a lot more casual compared to the main restaurant. read more

I went here a total of two times. First time to experience the general dining experience without the belly dancing show, and the 2nd to experience the belly dancing show. I must say I preferred my first time - not because of something bad, but I just found that the price point with the show wasn't super super worth it. I did find it a great show, I thought the dancers were so interactive and great at their art however, I felt like the food options plus the show at the price point given was not "on par." The food was delicious, well cooked, seasoned to perfection I had and have no complaints. Both servers on both occasions were phenomenal. They are so attentive and very personable, I look forward to having them again. I would say I would definitely return to have a general dining experience because it ticked off all the boxes: - great food - great dining. I recently popped in for a quick meal during a conference. The food is so good. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. I've been here several times before, including for major birthday celebrations. The service is excellent. The only one downside was that the owner lingered to complain aboutthe economy. But I was just a couple of minutes. I had a lamb dish that was fantastic. The only saving grace for this restaurant is the BEAUTIFUL atmosphere and the belly dancing show. Otherwise the food portions for the appetizers were tiny for the price ~$10-$15 and mediocre tasting. BEWARE: we were told when we got there that it was a $25/person minimum spending and for large groups, an automatic 18% tip is charged. THE FOOD: Vegetable Briwatts - 3 pieces of triangular phyllo wrapped vegetables with a chipotle aioli. Overall tasted ok but the chipotle mayo feels out of place with such a supposedly Moroccan dish. Chicken Bastilla - interesting phyllo wrapped shredded chicken surrounded by sliced almonds, confectioner sugar & cinnamon. Flavours and texture was interestingly good but chicken was dry and portion was pretty small. Royal Brochette- $15 for 3 skewers with ~4 small pieces of meat (shrimp, lamb, and chicken) is a rip-off. I must admit I really liked the flavour and cook on the lamb skewer, otherwise the shrimp and chicken tasted OK and was drier. The main courses do look greater in portion, but be prepared to spend $35-$55 to get that. THE STAFF & ATMOSPHERE: the servers looked and sounded quite unmotivated, although still polite. The decorations from the tents, pillow seats, lanterns and wall decor transported me elsewhere. The belly dancing show was super fun and the dancer would interact with each table !! Went to The Sultan's Tent & Cafe Morocco for my birthday. The atmosphere was super fun, the belly dancing was incredible and our servicer was awesome. I ate the braised beef short ribs with fries. The short ribs were incredible, however the fries were slightly below average (probably my fault for ordering fries instead of one of the dishes our server specifically recommended). Never a disappointment The food was spectacular! Came here with a friend out of the blue as they wanted to try Moroccan food. Given that we were looking into the whole authentic experience of the meal we were also excited for the Belly Dancing as we came in around the time when they were scheduled to perform. We both did "A la Carte" since we weren't certain about doing the Prix fixe and both got the Langoustine Provençal. To our surprise the performance is only shown to customers who are doing the Prix Fixe menu since they were seated in the back. So aside from that minor inconvenience, all I can really say about the food is that I enjoyed it, the flavours weren't anything too crazy as I had to soak up the veggies in the sauce which was pretty moderate in my opinion. We both felt like some sort of bread or rice should be accompanied with this dish as the potatoes were not enough, felt more like I was eating something that should have a side of rice. Then again we both came here for authenticity so if that's how the dish is to be served then I wish I ordered something in addition to that. Overall if I were to come by again I'd probably try to bring in a group as I think people come more for the immersive performance that we never got to witness. read more

I've been to Sultan's a few times with my friends and every time they have not disappointed with the food, the service, and the drinks! I had the Primavera Tajine and the Moroccan Old Fashion. The Tajine was rich in flavour and aroma. The portion is quiet big, but given the price you are paying for the dish, I think it's great. The Moroccan Old Fashion was good, I would have had a second if I wasn't too full from the Tajine. My friend had the Chicken Tajine and they liked it. The chicken to rice and vegetable portion was good. The dish was flavourful and the chicken was juicy. Overall, I'll continue to come here and if you're in the area I would recommend you do too! read more

For my appetizer I had the maftoul cigars which were perfectly fried and crispy, the filling was tasty and the aioli was nice and spicy. Got their braised beef for my entree and it was very tender and flavorful. Creme brulee for dessert which wasn't anything special but definitely not bad. Portions were pretty big, couldn't finish all 3 courses. After 8pm or so there was a belly dancer that came around the tables. Slightly awkward since it was a weeknight, there were only a couple of tables around and the music selection was slow paced and didn't go too well with the belly dancing. Definitely fun if you are the type to get up to try belly dancing in front of everyone! Definitely worth trying this place out if you have never been. Solid food and entertainment, great for groups. This would seem to be the reason why the food was more expensive than it should be. The Chevre Brulee was a joke. You get 2 crackers with one small disk of goat cheese, 1 grape tomato and 2 pieces of lettuce for $14. I wish i was exaggerating. The entrees were larger portions but lacked flavor and authenticity. Atmosphere: Really like the interior, it's a definitely a different look compared to other restaurants. Service: food came at a reasonable speed but the server took a long time (20 min) to get our bill Food: I tried the arugula salad (nothing special, also had too much vinegar), basa tagine (flavor was quite dull, portion size was very moderate), and couscous dessert with whipped chickpea cream (the vegan whipped cream topping was the best thing in the meal). What an amazing experience. My colleagues and are were in Toronto for a conference and wanted to do something fun for dinner. Moroccan cuisine is not easily accessible in our area, so we choose Sultan's tent. From the moment we stepped through the door we knew we made the right choice. The staff was attentive and kind, and not only was the food amazing but the belly dancing and engaged staff went above and beyond. My friend brought me to have dinner here while I was visiting Toronto. This place does an amazing job with captivating you with their Moroccan themed decor. Color and tents provide an unique and enjoyable ambience. The food however, could have been more authentic. They did such a great job in creating a Moroccan themed atmosphere, which I guess is why I had higher expectations in terms of the cuisine. I decided to check out their Salmon dish which came with a sort of purée and mixed bean salad and my friend had the Lamb Shank which he enjoyed. The portions were pretty decent sized. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. I'd recommend checking the place out for their great ambience, but if you find something better offering more authentic cuisine, then definitely go for it!! read more

Went there a couple days ago for summerlicious, I must say it's a pretty good experience. It's located near the st Lawrence market, I'm not sure how many guests you would normally expect, but the day I went was a Tuesday so it's a bit quiet. Once you walked in, you'll see many paintings and decorations welcoming you. You'll see servers greeting you at the end of the bar section. We were seated towards the far end of the restaurant, during our meal there was a belly dancing show. It was my first time in my life watching a belly dance, well worth the money I'm paying for summerlicious!! The food was unique, not something I get to try on a daily basis, I can't comment on the authenticity of the food because I'm not familiar with it, but it's something I'm willing to try more often. read more

The environment was excelente great belly dancers , sometimes they dance with people this last 30 min. If you get the pre fixed menu you get the show of belly dancers but if you don't get the pre fixed you won't get the show.
