So I took my mother to the Maywood Grill after an afternoon of exploring Falling Waters, and she just loved it. The place had down home dinner vibe that conjured vibes of Mayberry, RFD. Everyone was so friendly that you just had to smile; our waitress Lori was particularly nice and efficient. The food at Maywood Grill was superb and done to perfection. Their fried chicken sandwich surpassed all chicken contenders and their onion rings were sublime. However, it was their pizza that was the star of the show, as it has been a long time that a pie checked all the boxes. First, the crust was just the right mix of crunch and chewy goodness that thought I had stepped into New Haven, CT. Next, the cheese was real, not that plastic rubbish you find masquerading as cheese from so main big chains. Each slice was perfect example of how pizza should be done. Came back to this place on a whim. The service was still amazing. The place was packed and they got us in and out within an hour or so. I still love the decor and the photos around the place. Ramps and eggs were amazing. I guess it's ramp season (very strong onion) and i couldn't pass it up. It had whipped Ricotta and pesto on fresh sourdough. It was incredible. My husband requested a trip to Kentuck Knob for Father's Day. This place came up in my search for a place nearby to eat for lunch and I went in with minimal expectations but wow, the food at this place really impressed me! When you walk in, there is a dining area to the right and a coffee shop with pastries to the left. Though we had to wait a bit for a table, we enjoyed looking at the yummy treats in the case as everything looked fabulous. Sunday is brunch so both breakfast and lunch menus were available. My daughter got a burger and Caesar salad, my husband got an omelette, and I got some onion rings and free rein to eat off their plates. Everything was delicious but the onion rings were a standout! It reminded me of a blooming onion in the best way! The strawberry jelly for the toast was also among the best I've ever had, and clearly made in house as it tasted so fresh. Our server was very pleasant but things moved a little slowly and we had to ask multiple times for our side of dressing. I was also shocked to see that a cup of coffee was $5! Stopped in at 1:45pm for lunch with two small children. The sign on the door said they were open until 2pm and we were relived to make it in time for the lunch service. The place was packed and the hostess would not look at us. She put her hand over her face and looked to the servers walking past. One of the servers said, "We're closed." We said, "oh... ok." And left. Listen, I've worked in the restaurant industry. I get it, it's frustrating when people come in close to closing time. However, if the posted signage has a closing time of 2pm that means you are open and taking customers until that time. If the kitchen closes earlier, that should be posted. If that isn't the case, even if you really want to clock out, you need to stay. Especially if you're located in a remote location with travelers coming through. Luckily there was a Dollar General nearby and we could grab something to eat... not the experience we were hoping for. read more

Next day had the maple-bacon french toast and could not stop raving about it. I had the breakfast sandwich day 1, which was okay. Had the pancake day 2, which was enormous and super flavorful. I love the plain sticky's, the original, and whatever flavor they have on deck that day just try it because they are all amazing! A box of 4 is huge and enough to share with a group! Freeze well also! The entire bakery is fabulous, a few gluten free items here and there, and the pepperoni rolls are to die for. On the other side is a full restaurant, and they serve breakfast and lunch. I've never had a bad meal over there and it's just home cooking! This place was so good, we ate here twice on our trip. We were headed from VA to Pittsburgh passing through. Stopped for lunch first. Breakfast on the return trip. It's a little odd. You order on one side and take a "number" similar to what you got going to a Ponderosas back in the day, and go site on the other side of the diner. Service for your order was fast. Everything else is self-service. I got the chicken sandwich and I have to say, it was probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. My son got the Sub Special for the day. We didn't plan to stop on our way home from Pittsburgh, but we needed a break and a coffee. I'm glad we saw this place, checked the reviews, and decided to try it. I had the best French toast I've ever had. The pecan French toast was the flavor of the week, and it was amazingly delicious. I regretted only ordering half the order to share with my husband as "dessert," because it was worth ordering a full portion and eating both without worrying about the calories. My main meal was Platter 1, a traditional American breakfast, but what made it even better were the homemade toasts and jam. Following our kind waitress's recommendation, my husband had Green Eggs and Ham, and it was truly exquisite. Minus one star for serving everyone on takeaway containers with plastic utensils, even those of us eating "in." You order at the bakery counter, and then they bring the food to you. I realize it dvaes them the cost of purchasing and washing dishes, but it's bad for the environment and just feels so transient for a sit-down meal. What was good were the chicken sandwiches, the cheese burger, and the enormous peanut butter chocolate cookie. The peach salad came with half of an underripe peach on it, which was disappointing. I wish they had grilled it, or at least nuked it in the microwave for 10 seconds to make it softer to bite into. The menu does have some variety, and the dining areas inside and out were nice enough. We stopped here on a recent road trip in the winter and they were one of the only open restaurants in the area. They have a wide variety on the menu which was perfect for us and have both grill items and bakery items. The bakery items looked great! I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries. The food came out in about 10 min which was great given that it was made fresh. I would have like a bit more seasoning on the chicken but overall it was very good and the fries were good. I would come again next time we are passing through. The service staff were nice and helpful, would recommend anyone to try. The restaurant is large and has a hometown feel. The bakery is the winner here! 5 stars for the cinnamon roll, 3 stars for breakfast, so I settled in an even four. They have a nice arrangement of baked goods for anyone's taste. We had about a 15 minute wait for breakfast on a Saturday morning but they have a nice size lobby for waiting. Breakfast was fine, my western omelet was overdone. Omelets come with either breakfast potatoes or greens. I opted for greens which may have been the wrong choice, the dressing that comes on it was sour and the salad was swimming in it. We were traveling and had heard great things about Maywood Grill's cinnamon rolls so decided to go check it out. We initially went on a Saturday and arrived at 2:30 only to learn that they closed at 2:30. The hours on Google are incorrect so make sure you call before going. We went back on Sunday to try again. We ordered the breakfast sandwiches, smashed potatoes, sweet cream pancake, French toast and onion rings. We wanted to try a variety of food. Our favorites were the pancake and potatoes. The breading on the onion rings was awesome too and I'd imagine anything breaded in it being fantastic. Then we got cheesecake, sugar cookies, a variety of cinnamon rolls, donuts and turnovers. The star of the entire spread were the cinnamon rolls. The rest of the food was good, but the cinnamon rolls were the best. Everyone was friendly, the place was clean, the line moved quickly, food came out quickly. They also have several outdoor tables for you to take your food to once ready which we appreciated since we had our small dog with us. We will absolutely come back for the cinnamon rolls! read more

Their breakfast specials are always amazing - french toast made from their homemade bread is an ultimate favorite. You can't go wrong with a pancake either - they are huge, so one is plenty! And their homemade jams pair nicely with the homemade bread. My mom ordered the butternut squash soup, which quickly became a favorite of mine although not something I would normally order for myself, so glad she got it. The restaurant is set up self service style. You go to the bakery side and order then sit on the dining side and they deliver to your table. I am assuming this is due to COVID. The menu has an array of choices from burgers, pizza and sandwiches. They all seem to be made with fresh ingredients. We ordered a Caesar salad, burger and sandwich. All were good and plenty to share. Sandwiches also come with a side. In the dining room they have extra plates, to go containers, silverware and everything else you need setup to help yourself. BEWARE OF THIS RESTAURANT.We have been going to Mayfield Grill for two years. Two years ago, we would've given them a five star rating, particularly for their breakfast food. The last couple visits we have noticed a slight change in the quality of their food. Today was the last time we will ever go to Mayfield Grill. We found plastic pieces in our onion rings, and the staff was very dismissive of our concerns. They said " that the plastic could've been mistaken for an onion and breaded by mistake". Additionally the onion rings were absolutely miserable looking and did not resemble normal onion rings that would be served even at a low quality fast food restaurant. So we WILL NOT BE COMING BACK. We would advise you to "beware " the Mayfield Grill is no longer serving food of good quality and apparently safety may also be a concern. read more

Atmosphere - just OK. The outside is interesting and I expected the inside to be warm and inviting with a country style. As you enter, you can turn left for a bakery (which is unexpected since there is nothing in the restaurant name to indicate that there is a bakery) or go right to the restaurant. The restaurant is a large room that is sparsely decorated and a little sterile. There are very large tables that seat six that ring the outside walls and a bunch of tables spread out in the center of the room. Service- Very good. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Food - Good. I had the western omelet with American cheese. The egg was dense, similar to what is served at a Denny's restaurant (not my favorite). The vegetables and cheese filling was ample and tasty. The omelet came with roasted red potatoes and toast. The potatoes were huge and tasted a bit like potato skins. The inside is nothing special, but it did feel clean. The menu is varied, so something for everyone. There is even a bakery which we weren't aware of from the outside. I settled on a BELT, which was served on their homemade white bread, which is good, but just keep in mind it's very thick. I had the egg cooked over hard, and there was plenty of bacon. The sandwich was served nice and hot, and came in a timely manner. In the end, the bread was so thick that I ended up doing an open faced sandwich. Red potatoes accompanied the sandwich and were huge, and I got 3. They reminded me more of potato skins, but they were good.
