They've built a new playground near the pavilion that is pretty awesome, they've added more benches along the trails and they've done some upgrades to the ball field. The ball field still needs improvement and the road needs to have the craters filled so hopefully the town will take that on this spring. It's a peaceful place to walk my pup on my lunch hour to recharge my batteries.

Theres also a fitness trail-this is a year-round park so it's good for cross country skiing as well. Lots of people use this to walk the dogs. Of course it's a carry in carry out park. The trails are fairly easy and short several bridges but there's benches next to the streams so you can sit and reflect. There's two entrances to the park. The also hold summer concerts here.

There is a nearby playground with swings, a jungle gym, climbing areas, rocking horses and such, and it is surrounded by lots of benches for tired parents to sit in. There are fields to kick a ball around, several slides including a large bendy once that reminds me of a waterpark slide (what exactly is it doing where it is?) There are also trails to walk along. Taken together, it is definitely greater than the sum of its parts.

Make sure you park a Lil far away and walk as the wait time is not worth it.

And yes, there is plenty of grass to walk around with your dog while enjoying the warm breezes. Sure, you could spend time looking into the river and watching the boats slowly go by. Kids probably enjoy the playground area while their parents can find something to do at the tables. There is even a restaurant on premises, though I personally have never seen it open. No, while all of those are wonderful reasons to come here I can't say that is why I like this park. Instead, I love it because it is right next to the train tracks and I can watch the trains go by while spending quality time with my family in a nice setting. There is a connecting bridge that allows you to look onto the trains from above (warning... they are loud!) but you can also enjoy the park for what it is while the trains rush by on the other side of the protective fence. It is a great place to spend time. I only wish it was closer to where I live.

Butler Park is a town park with a lot of potential, but is ruined by the people that come here. The…read morepark has a playground, basketball hoops, baseball field, and a volleyball net. In addition, the park used to have a stage, but it fell down and was never replaced. The basketball hoops are terrible, the nets are gone and the rims are crooked. The playground is small, but children can still enjoy it. The main problem is you can never come here without finding trash, cigarettes, and leftover drugs on the ground. Teenagers come here and trash the place with drugs, but nobody does anything about it. I would be scared to actually bring my kids here. Furthermore, a carnival called Summerfest comes here in the summer, but it's ruined by fights, drugs, and alcohol. Butler Park could be a fine place to spend time at, but it's overrun by drugs.

There's a strange thing about life with kids in the Capital Region. There are tons of playgrounds, but they are almost always empty. I think kids largely play in their back yards. Otherwise they all seem to go to The Crossings in Colonie. So sometimes, you may have this long and narrow park to yourself. But that's fine. There are a lot of trees, so parents can have shade. And in the summer, there is a spray zone, where kids can come with bathing suits and cool off from the hot hot heat.
