This place is stellar. I'm In town once a year and I always come to check more of the menu out here. The lines are way juicier than last time so that was a plus, and now that I know how big their tacos are, I didn't overeat. Two tacos is enough but 3 if you can eat a bunch of food. Love the pretty array of salsas they bring out. This place is some of the best authentic Mexican food in SB.

Gave this spot a try while visiting Santa Barbara. They have a great selection of authentic Tijuana style tacos. The tortillas felt homemade (not sure) and were delicious! All of the tacos we tried were good, I especially liked the lengua taco and the shrimp one. Service was good but a bit slow for a taco spot. It's a small place, with a minimal decor. It has tons of parking in the back. Will definitely be back to try more!

Recently on Reddit, I saw someone call Maíz Picante one of the underrated taco shops in SB. My mom and I were in the area and decided to stop by for dinner! To start, I got a tamarind jarrito to drink -- good ole reliable! To eat, I ordered a chicken taco as well as a crispy vallarta taco. My mom and I took a seat by the window while we waited for the food to come. While we were waiting, a little plate was brought with a variety of salsas and some toppings for the tacos! It was a nice little spread since it included red and green salsa. After 5 minutes, our food arrived. We dug in right away! Everything was very delicious. The chicken taco surprised me as I was worried it may be kind of bland. However, the chicken was moist and delicious while the potato was creamy and added a nice balance. With some grilled onions and salsa on top, it was perfect! The crispy vallarta taco had a nice balance of textures as well and was everything I wanted! Overall, my mom and I were very happy with our experience at maiz picante. Her and I have been back since this first visit and will continue to return!

    Vegan tacos

When we first walked in no one acknowledged that we were there for a long time, to the point where we almost turned around and left. But someone finally showed up and we put in our taco order. Was very excited they had vegan options! I ordered 3 vegan tacos: beyond pastor, roasted veggies, and vegan crispy. The flavor was amazing! Very well made and I enjoyed every bite.

Absolutely delicious! Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The tacos were amazing, and the quesadillas were perfectly crispy with great filling. Loved all the fresh toppings and sauces too. Great food and great experience -- definitely coming back!

Lengua taco and crispy vallarta taco

Epic tacos -- some of the best I've had this side of the border. The lengua is perfection. Could not recommend more highly.

Cabeza and Carnitas tacos came stuffed

Carnitas tacos and Elote was amazing. Carnitas tacos came stuffed full of meat, but the tortillas were well made and did not break. Salsas were abundant and complimentary to the flavors of the tacos. The Cabeza was only so-so and my sister said the Al Pastor was awful. Personally, I never get Al Pastor unless I see a trompo, so didn't even think about getting it. Got an Agua Fresca as well, made with cucumber and pineapple which was super refreshing. As an aside, was also told by another patron, while sitting in the restaurant with my siblings that we "are a beautiful family." Amongst another rambling that we didn't understand lol. We took it to mean SB probably doesn't get many "diverse" visitors or something

Aces MX restaurant in Santa Barbara. Jamaica margarita was the surprising highlight, as was the fact that the vegan substitutions were all very well-seasoned, so you didn't miss the meat except for the texture. Shrimp tacos were also well done. Atmo was just average - maybe overly brightly-lit - but local color of suburbanites out on the town more than made up for it.

This was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Worth the drive. We were unable to decide on which tacos to get so, we tried a couple. They were AMAZING AND DELICIOUS! the service was prompt and the food was fresh! The restaurant was clean and the Agua Frescas are a must try. It's a small place, we went during the week so it was not full. Highly recommend the birria tacos. The meat was juicy and Tender. The shrimp taco was very tasty not bland at all!

There was a line when we got there on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30pm and that took about 20 minutes before we could order. All of us got the triple play which is an order of three tacos any flavor u want. I loved my spicy crispy shrimp and my families choice of carne asada and the battered up. Bahn mi had a tang I didn't love and the grilled fish was fine but not as flavorful as the crispy shrimp and carne asada. My family loved the Gangnam style, crispy shrimp, carne asada and grilled shrimp best. Hard to recommend certain tacos bc everyone has different ideas about what they like but I couldn't get over the crispy shrimp crunch with tender juicy interior. And the carne asada had such strong classic flavors because of their stunningly good guacamole! So of course if u like guac u need to order their guac and chips!

I thought we were at the wrong place as all I saw at first were batting cages. But there was the window to order and the menu boards I saw in all the Yelp photos... and a row of picnic tables next to the cages where you could sit and eat. They've got tacos, burgers, hot dog, but I was here for the tacos. I did the "Triple Play" (3 tacos) and I got Batter Up (fried cod), Ahi Poke, and Grilled Fish. The tacos were flavorful but I felt there was too much of the pico de gallo, aioli, etc. I feel that with really good fish tacos, the fish should be the star, not all the toppings/sauces. I loved the wonton shell for the Ahi Poke but it had way too much wasabi aioli for me that overpowered the fish. My wife enjoyed her tacos but I thought they were decent. I do give them bonus points for the unique set up- I'm a big baseball fan, so I really wished I wore shoes instead of my flip flops so I could get some swings in after my tacos! Next time I'll do that for sure!

I love pozole - Cc's rendition is top notch and comes with all the extras to put in the soup including avocado, chopped onion, a whole fried tortilla to break up into the broth and Mexican oregano (the small is more than enough for one hungry person or to share with two).Homemade chips come with a four salsa selection ranging substantially hot to a delicate tomatillo green. I tried my tablemate's tacos, all three varieties were very very good. I've had takeout from here, but it's really worth going in person because the food is nuanced and best when piping hot as it's made.

It was featured on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list but started off as a pop-up. You get in line and order your food. Then you get a buzzer that rings when your food is ready. They have some dedicated seating for customers but you can sit anywhere in the public market. We got the al pastor ($6.95) and coliflor ($7.95) tacos. The sizes were bigger than normal but I thought they could've used a little salt and the al pastor was a little tough. The sal de mar ceviche ($23.95) could've used more salt and lime but it was still refreshing with the watermelon. For drinks both the passionfruit margarita ($21) and hibiscus margarita ($24) were good. You can ask for their three salsas of varying spice levels. The food and drinks were on the pricier side too but we didn't think the quality matched the price.

Still, there's clearly a post-millennial, new generation vibe to the place, digital screen menus, slightly limited menu (no conventional chicken filling), 20-something brothers running the place, so I'd changed my expectations. For a second I was disappointed, before I remembered my original expectations. Then I got a good look at the house-made tortillas (pics posted). When I got to the salsa bar, I did another double take. Is that...? PEANUT salsa, bro. Spicy. Done, I'm done. I've got nothing else.

Standout was the rajas con queso -- genuinely one of the best versions I've had, and somehow even better from the truck than the diner. Also tried pastor, cabeza, carnitas, and shrimp, and every single one delivered. No weak link on the menu. What I appreciate about Pipeye is that it's not a tourist-line spot -- it's the kind of place locals actually recommend when you ask. I posed that exact question to a Mexican family, and after a beat of consideration, their answer was Tacos Pipeye. That tracked with everything I'd already experienced. If you're comparing SB taco spots -- La Super-Rica gets the tourist attention, but ask around and you'll hear El Bajío and Lilly's come up just as often among people who eat here regularly. Pipeye belongs in that conversation too, and for me, it's currently at the top. Diner and food truck both worth seeking out. Will be back next visit.
