I find comfort in meeting them and it always feels like meeting family away from home. There was a group of them working at this bakery in Stoneham. They were all smiles and very welcoming to me the English speaker in this French speaking province. If you're in the Quebec City and you have your own car, I recommend a visit to Pascal and working off your carb loading with a walk through Jacques Cartier National Park.

They have a wide variety of interesting gelato and sorbet flavors, most of which I can't speak for, but the raspberry sorbet, mango sorbet, rhubarb gelato, whiskey crème gelato, and chocolate gelato were excellent! We met the owner, who was justifiably proud of his homemade gelato. The texture of the sorbet is smooth, not icy, and the raspberry had actual raspberry pieces in it. Delicious! The sugar cones were also great, and I'm pretty sure they make them there. The service was very quick and friendly as well. This little shop definitely stands apart from the usual tourist fare omnipresent in Old Quebec.

In addition to the dipped cones, they offer hot chocolate, dipped ice cream sandwiches, gelato, etc. I would be happy coming in for an epic euro-style hot chocolate in the winter months too. I wasn't aware that the orzo was caffeine-free so I wasn't able to finish it so I now know enough not to go for that if I see it featured in other cafes. Canele are a custard/pastry concoction shaped like little jelly moulds/cups - sweet but not sickly. I'm not sure how else to describe it. I like them, and like most pastries they are best when fresh. That being said, you can buy them frozen here which means you can stock up and keep some for later. I'll be going to get some more next time I'm up that way, just because they're so different and you can't get them in many places (I haven't seen them anywhere else). The staff that were there only spoke French, but that's normal for Quebec City (and pretty much guaranteed outside of the old town area). It's really not a big deal, as it only takes a few words and gestures to get as many canele as you can carry.
