I had smoke coming out of my fireplace, even when I had a very small fire. I called MB Chimney because they are local. Matt showed up late, having run out of gas, in his truck. And, without a gas can. And, as it turns out, without his wallet! So, I let him use my gas can. I drove him to a gas station. I paid for his gas. I drove back, and he filled his tank. Then he looks at my fireplace. He said my flue wasn't open. He opened it. He showed me where it was. He suggested a cleaner for the stones around the fireplace. And then charged me $90.00!! And never gave me the money for his gas!! I don't recommend this business. No integrity. No conscience. read more

The guy seems to operate out of his car, but he gets the job done and he does it fast and clean. My chimney didn't need much done in the end; I had only owned the house for a year and simply had no idea what state it was in before we bought it. I had my wood burning insert cleaned by Eric, I think his name was. He did a great job, was on time and left everything super clean, even cleaned the glass door. He also replaced a worn out spark arrester and repaired some cement on the top of the chimney, for no extra charge. He even offered to bring my Christmas reindeer decorations down off the roof! I called Matt two days ago to inquire about having my chimney swept. His price was more than reasonable for what he offered and he had availability today, so I agreed to hire him. He arrived today, on time and with an assistant, and they did an amazing job on my wood stove and chimney. The interior of my stove looks better than it ever has since I acquired it with the house I purchased four years ago. Both Matt and his assistant are very thorough, professional, respectful and friendly, and knowledgeable about their craft. Matt is also able to diagnose and repair nearly any problem that can arise with wood stoves and chimneys on the spot, but that wasn't necessary for me, showing that hes not the type to sell unnecessary services. He was late about 20 minutes when I got a text saying he was stuck in traffic. I told him to forget about it. He sent me a very nasty profanity laced text message in return, as if it were my problem that he is unable to make it to his appointments on time. His prices were very fair for what I got. He even painted the outside of the chimney to help weatherproof it and make it look nice. Cleaned the inside up better than when he got here. Chimney was missing a spark arrestor so he put one in. I thought I had a problem so he came back the next day to check things out. BUT an hour after the first appointment and he was a no show I called and texted. He told me that he had tires blow out on a couple vehicles and was in a place with no signal. I believe this because why not? He apologized and said he could come Sunday at ANY time, just name a time. So I said 3pm would be good. He never showed up. NO call, nothing. We were in Monterey and came home to Felton before 3pm to make sure we could be there, so we planned our day around the appointment and never got so much as a call. Matt was out at our place about a month ago to give our fireplace a good cleaning. He arrived right on time and did a great job setting up plastic around the fireplace to keep some of the dust at bay. He climbed up on the roof to clear the screen from above and then came inside to finish the job. He wiggled is arm way inside to make sure he got all the debris and you could hear it through the hose in his shop vac. It's been about a month since he's been out and we've had at least a dozen fires and the efficiency is like night and day. Called this service to inspect our fireplace which hadn't been used in 15 years. Matt came out and tested our gas starter, patched a few cracks and swept out and cleaned our fire place for $75. Would have given them 1 star but Matt was pleasant on the phone when booking the appointment. The worker who came showed up over 2 hours later then the original appointment. I asked about a small crack in the back that the owner had said he could inspect and the worker came back with a bucket of putty and used a finger to smooth it out. When he saw the fireplace was clear of ash, he said it didn't need to be cleaned and that he checked it from the outside. Well, he never once opened the flue and I have a ring camera that shows him glancing at the outside of the building while walking out. To make it worse, the guy charged me $50 to fix the crack. I just wanted him out of my house at that point, so I paid him. I called the owner Matt 6-7 times and left messages that I wanted to confirm the safety of my fireplace if it was never even inspected and the $50 charge to have the guy use his fingers to go over a crack but he refused to call me back and recently cashed the check. Matt did a phenomenal job with our chimney. He spent over two and a half hours cleaning and detailing an old and extremely dirty (unused for 25 years!) chimney. It was hard work but he made it look as close to new as possible. There was a chunk physically missing from the interior of the chimney and he repaired it on the spot for a only the cost of the materials (very cheap), which saved us another separate visit. The total price was quite fair. As a side note, he was very friendly and quite an interesting conversationalist. We will happily use his services again.
