I'm 218 days out for sheet metal surrounds for my three Mendota fireplace inserts I ordered. Many, many promise dates and no surrounds. Short one remote. Very disappointed. This service for $25k in ordered stuff. I'd look elsewhere. Update June - surrounds finally got in and we're installed. Looks great. Total time ~230 days or so, so please be aware. read more

After trying to make a decision between an insert and a log set we finally landed on a log set. My wife and I had four meetings with Roger at CAPO regarding log sets. Roger explained to us the types and differences to help us make our decision, also gave me helpful instructions as to how to install the system myself. Went in there today for a specialty item. They stock them. Really saved me on my project. The gentleman behind the counter was extremely helpful in advice and design preference. I would suggest for customer service and fireplaces to check them out. Not sure why the low stars but can't please everyone I guess. We struggled with the idea of writing this post, but ultimately decided that we would write the review in hopes of sparing others the pain of our experience. I have never been treated so poorly by a company that wasn't a government agency. Brian was inflexible, EXTREMELY rude, and their installation and materials are sub-par. At first I thought maybe we caught him on a bad day, but his attitude persisted with each interaction that we had with him. After our experience, our very reputable and well-respected General Contractor, with whom we have done several remodels and new builds, will no longer work with this company. After almost 2 years of constant mistakes and them bringing the wrong equipment to my house I was left with a gas leak after start up. I kept getting nauseated and a head ache when I would use the fireplace. They sent a technician I had not seen before. His LP gas detection device alarmed immediately when he started the fireplace. He found that the LP conversion kit was never tightend. I find this reckless that they did not test for leakes when they started up the fireplace the first time. We could have had dire consequences. read more

I checked on nine separate times over the course of four months. "Chief Operations Officer" Spencer Lowe lied multiple times saying the rest had shipped. I love my fireplace purchased from Capo. When I called for service about 2 months ago, Robert said he'd call me back when they were open. That never happened. Then, when I finally got ahold of them today, I was told they no longer carry my fireplace and haven't for 10 years. They serviced it 2 years ago! They can no longer get parts for it. They cannot refer me to another company. I will not do business with Capo again. They have no customer service at all. Do not follow up with return phone calls. Stopped in here last week in need of advise around installing a wood stove pipe for a cabin. Great customer service and beautiful showroom. They carry a large assortment of gas and wood burning stoves. A few other things on the showroom floor included gas patio heaters and beautiful pizza ovens. I would never use Capo again. We called them because we purchased our outdoor fireplace from Santa Cruz Stoves & Fireplaces, now Capo on Water Street. Our outdoor gas fireplace would come on, then go out after about 5 minutes. We called for service, they came out, said we needed a new control unit. They wanted $250 for the five minutes it took them to determine that, and they would not come out to install it unless I paid the $250 first. My husband finally had to give them a credit card number before they would agree to come out and install the new one. They came out, put the new one in (another 5-10 minutes), and then two days later, I received an alert that the credit card had been charged over $400. I have not received an invoice, was not contacted that the charge would be applied, and have no idea what the $400 included. I would NEVER use these people, nor recommend them. Their business practices are terrible. I don't mind paying for service, and I can understand travel time, but to be charged without knowing what I am paying for is inexcusable. They were not very pleasant on the phone either. Very bad experience!!! read more

Capo Fireside gave me the best quality service, prompt response, great products, and the best advice. The see-thru firebox for the living/dining rooms they installed is very elegant, an eye-catching, and a big WOW factor in my house. As soon as people enter my front door, the see-thru fireplace is the first thing they see on the right side and I get compliments all the time. Ben advised me not to put more than 2 colors of fire-glass crystals and I'm glad I listened to him. The crystals that I picked are blue & green metallic fire glass. When on, it's an amazing color combination especially when it's lit at night. The great room is more French country look. Because that's a bigger area, the fire logs are perfect there instead of fire glass crystals. It filled the space and the herringbone design in the background adds beauty to the French style of my home. I have to applaud Steve who did the installation. He made sure everything looks perfectly aligned and he also adjusted the flames for the blaze to go up instead of spreading like a hurricane. It's very relaxing sitting next to the fireplace watching the flames while sipping tea. With a touch of a button, I can turn it on and off! Ben is now helping me select the fire pit for outdoor to add beauty and warmth to my landscaping design. read more

They installed a fireplace and it leaked a little water in through the vent out the back. I called them to have them look at it and they sent out a crew. They told me they didn't know what happened and it should be fine next time it rains. 2 weeks later it rained and it leaked so much water it damaged the subfloor. Ben was nice on the phone and came out to look at the vent and suggested caulking around it and told me to take it apart. I had a licensed general contractor come and look at the vent and he said it leaked through the vent, had nothing to do with the surrounding area. When I explained this to Ben he referred me to Brian since he deals with scheduling. Then I received a run around of both of them telling me to talk to the other person. Brian was so incredibly rude on the phone I couldn't believe it. He told me if I had someone look at it who understood how water worked it wouldn't be leaking.. I guess a licensed general contractor isn't someone he considers intelligent enough to grasp that concept I still have a leaking fireplace. I have to find someone else to fix THEIR product. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because Ben was polite and helpful when I could reach him. Brian on the other hand was one of the rudest people I have ever spoken with. read more

After 3 years of problems with the Energy House Isokern installation, and multiple visits from the Energy House technician, Julian from Capo Fireside fixed the problem in five minutes. We were referred to this company by our contractor. We underwent a major remodel of our home. Originally we wanted to change our fireplace to a larger one but the city rules would not allow us to do this as we would lose the ability to burn wood. We instead decided to refurbish the existing fireplace with new screen mesh, glass doors and handles. We visited the Capo at the beginning of the project when we were not exactly sure what we were going to do and they thought we were going to order a brand new fireplace. Ben, the manager was very nice and explained options. Several months later near the conclusion of our project when we knew exactly what we wanted we went back to the store to look at the doors and order it. Ben was not there but another salesperson also called Ben was helpful. We spent 3 hours in beach traffic going over 17 from the peninsula on a Saturday to decide on the doors. The following day we had a few final questions via email to Ben. After that email conversation Ben , the manager sent us an email via our contractor saying he was no longer willing to work with us for no apparent reason. On an earlier conversation he mentioned to my wife that he would be losing money by coming and measuring and installing the doors at our house on the peninsula. I believe he thought he was getting a more substantial order from us other than a $2000 order. He decided to leave us high and dry. Meanwhile we had already inquired about a log insert and outdoor firepit to his salesman. Little does he know he lost a potentially higher value order. We were about to move back into our house when this happened and this greatly inconvenienced us and postponed final inspection. This was merely because Ben and the store only really cares about significant orders and money rather than satisfying the customer. Meanwhile we then found House of Brass in Campbell and the rep came out the following day with samples, extremely nice, measured out our fireplace, took our order and will have it installed in 2 weeks for $300 less than Capo for the same doors . Although Capo knows their products , if you live on the peninsula I would think twice about using them as they are not willing to come out measure and then return for install unless its financially feasible for them. I found Capo Fireside to be by far the best company to help me with that, even though I had to travel 40 miles to their store....They are professional, priced more than competitively, and extremely willing to go out of their way to meet my every WHIM! Their installers are excellent...Skilled, talented, neat and very polite....I couldn't ask for a better experience, and I researched many companies in the bay area.
