I decided that this was a really good find. A nice extensive menu, good wine list, upmarket decor…read moreand a riverside location. Definitely classy. We were four in total, out exploring Colchester having arrived late afternoon without having had lunch; so naturally we wanted to eat early and there were lights on inside. Nothing ventured, we asked if they were open and we were promptly ushered inside with a smile. Boy, this place is big! It must get very busy of a weekend evening, but at this time of day we were the only people there, so naturally our server was extremely attentive and helpful; although he was quite insistent about trying to 'upsell' us on some things, like pushing for bottled water when all we wanted was a jug of tap water. But I guess that's par for the course. The menu is pretty extensive, with plenty of veggie and vegan options - although I felt that our server should have pointed out that they have separate menus for those. I went for a veggie Nasi Goreng with a side dish of sweet and sour aubergines (my least favourite vegetable - what was I thinking?). Portion size was very good and the food was great. I even liked the sweet and sour aubergine side plate! You will either love or hate the decor, with its full-size artificial cherry blossom trees and illuminated fluffy clouds. Bizarrely, it all seemed to work well together, although I was less convinced about the music, which seemed mostly to be some kind of pop/techno fusion thing. Overall, it came to around £30 each between the four of us, which wasn't too bad given that our bottle of wine was only slightly less than that. If you want a classy evening meal, you could do a lot worse.

You know what I mean...could use a bit more attention Ambiance is hectic, cool, casual and not Asian inspired but you are at the Ned! So there's live music and other things So overall i liked it and found a cool spot for a quick bite.

After being seated at the bar by a delightful hostess, it was not long before I was given a menu and asked for an order. "I need a moment, but please, I am so cold, may I have some hot Darjeeling tea and water with lemon?" 5 minutes later, the server asked if I was ready, to which I responded, "No, I need a moment, just the tea please". 10 minutes after this, upon the servers return, I placed my order, and stressed that I would appreciate drinks, (did not even have a place setting). Soon after this, the food arrived, and still no tea or water. I was unhappy and my hands were still frigid. AJ, the manager appeared and said to me: "I thought you wanted the tea later," while hurriedly placing down the tea, water, and a place setting. What possible reason would someone have for saying this after having a customer wait for 20 minutes with no drinks, and long enough to receive their food order? Clearly I was unhappy, and clearly AJ, the manager did not care. I was charged for a bottle of water, which was to be expected, but at that point, I did not have time to drink it. "Whatever, I just want to be done," I thought after enjoying the delightful, fortifying tea. My appetizer was ok, but the service was off-putting and disappointing. My dual purpose was to find a spot for a company outing. And Kaia is OUT!

As residents of Los Angeles, and foodies, we live and die by yelp! When we saw the menu and photos…read moreand no reviews, we were nervous - was this a real place? (It was kind of hard to find with maps being misleading). Was it awful and no one had the heart to review? Our fears were put to rest when we found the place, and got our meal! Everything was delicious, and the bright blue burger bun was festive. The crack and cheese was as addictive as it sounded! Be mindful when you order - you won't likely need as much as the menu recommends (if you do, you can always order more) and they don't seem to be ready for taking items home (though they found a creative and effective solution for us)!

We stumbled across this place in our research and I particularly loved the idea of a unique take on traditional British dishes, so we decided to give it a shot. The place itself has a great decor and made a for a nice, romantic date night - nicely lit by candles adding a nice touch. We were waited on primarily by William, who turned out to be one of the owners, and he was very sweet and an absolute delight. The food - literally everything we had was incredible. The wild boar, game & apple croquettes were so perfectly cooked with the slightest bit of sweetness and came set atop a sauce that was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend loves scotch eggs, and was a little hesitant about a quail scotch egg as well as trying black pudding for the first time - and he wanted to order about 3 more. Following those, we also got the lamb, the crack & cheese, the truffle & parmesan fries, and the wagyu/bone marrow burger, all to share. The lamb was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. The burger was the one of the juiciest and flavorful burgers that I'd ever have - definitely don't be put off by the blue bun! It just added to how unique it was. The crack and cheese was a bit on the soupier side, but it was delicious, and perfect for dipping french fries into after you've eaten the macaroni. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have more reviews - it's a very cool place with delicious food. I highly recommend this place - I would suggest going out of your way to check this place out. The owner also has a fantastic cocktail lounge that he recommended - Looking Glass Lounge - as it was right by our AirBnB, and that was a great experience as well (but that's for a different review).
