I lived in Malden for a year, and this was the stop I had to use to get into Boston. It's not the best station, but it's not the worst. Pretty clean overall, except the bathroom is kind of atrocious... I'm glad there is a restroom, cuz when you need to pee... well, you need to pee. One time I went in there and there was literally poo on the floor and on the metal railing next to the toilet, and it smelled so terrible. I only took the T, so I dunno how the commuter rail side is. The major complaint I'd have (besides the rank bathroom) is that when it is cold, some commuters act like selfish jerks and stand next to the stairway to be protected from the wind - but at the same time they are blocking the way up and down the stairs, which is super annoying. A couple of nice pluses - the station has a little flower store in it, which sells decent quality flowers for pretty cheap. It also has a bike parking place, which is not bad if you have a bike. There is also a Dunkin Donut across the street, which is nice. read more

Busy train station. I don't like the fact that I have to wait outside on the platform. The train runs almost every 5 mins during rush hours so it's not too bad. The buses on the other hand are not very good; I can take 4 different buses so I should never wait for the bus and sometimes (to be more exact) every other day I still wait for 10 minutes in the cold for the bus..I guess we can't control traffic right? Not one of the safer MBTA stations, always some interesting characters around that the police don't care about even though they're loitering. Never clean both inside the station and outside by the buses. The station is handicapped accessible and has an elevator if you need it. There's not many MBTA employees working here, maybe one or two and they don't really control the flow of people well. read more

I say this to everybody who everybody who complains to me about the worst public transportation system in the world but doesn't send an email complaint to the MBTA at orangeline@mbta.com If you don't complain.. its only going to get worse. Saw a pregnant woman getting crushed on the Orange Line the other day.. last month a skateboarder jumped right in front of the train and got crushed. No public bathrooms or shelter in the winter. Children getting harassed by beggars pretending to be homeless. Wonderful place. read more

MBTA workers are terrible. They look miserable, refuse to help, and most should be fired. On multiple occasions they have told me to call the MBTA customer service phone number, for simple questions like "where can one obtain a Charlie card?", "what is the bus schedule?", or "can you help me with the bike parking area?". The "T" worker also would not help me with a "bus" question. Wow. read more

It's fine. Better than Sullivan worse than the much newer Assembly. The T overall is 1 star facing the music for graft and corruption over many years. Raising the rates and offering ever increasingly poor service. It's a disaster. read more

Ah, Malden Center. My gateway to... pretty much everywhere that isn't Malden. The orange line inbound trains are sometimes frustrating. I have the magical ability to make trains go out of service every weekday morning when I'm running late for work. I stand there on the platform, waiting, & I see the train rounding the corner. Could it be?! Then, that mysterious man's disjointed voice booms from the speakers: "The next... orange line train to Forest Hills is---does not... take.. customers." CURSES! Don't even get me started on the shuttle service every damn weekend. No doubt, the MBTA will still be "in construction" when I'm eighty & rockin' out with a walker. There's ALWAYS somebody begging for a dollar. Look, guy. I feel bad you forgot your wallet. Or you're homeless. Or you just want to scam me (get bent). But I don't carry cash on me, & quite frankly, I don't work my ass off for twenty hours a week so I can throw my money away... that's wasteful! Just an FYI, Malden Center is the station of choice for a dude who happens to be THE ABSOLUTE COOLEST 'BOSTON NOW' DISTRIBUTOR EVAR. Seriously. The charisma & energy level of this guy = astounding. Five stars for j00, kind sir! & last, but not least.... has anyone else noticed that within a mile radius of Malden Center, the air smells like burnt hair & popcorn? It's not the kind of popcorn smell you sometimes catch a whiff of around the little food-center inside. This is a nasty stench that actually makes me want to gag. It must be what Hell smells like, really. I've never mentioned it to anyone around me other than the boyfriend, because I don't want to offend any locals if they're "used" to it... I don't know. How does a small area of a city manage to contain a disgusting smell like that? How does it not... spread, you know? Why doesn't Medford smell like this? Oh, the mysteries of life. read more

This place is so funny. There are always a massive amount of crackheads in and around this station. They are either arguing with each other, crying, or asking people for money. Drugs are obviously a serious problem in this area. I like that it's convenient for me, staying with my boyfriend in Andover, because it is the closest subway station and it is right off of I93. Just way too many crackheads here!! read more

If you see the the train is coming and you think you can make it if you run . Dont even try , they won't let you in even you almost near the door. Which is fine however every time the subway get to Wellington they going to do the time adjustment. Really? read more

One of my least favorite Orange Line stops. Parking is horrible. Lots of.... undesirables get on + off here. I can't imagine living in this stinkhole and have to share the same space as these freaks of nature. read more

Buses, two block from the super market, three blocks from a super 88, less then a block to the liquor store-what more could someone want!

This station has gone downhill enough to comment on it. I used it for work for years and it was properly maintained, but is now often filled with trash and has little security or proper lighting outside. It's a cheap place to park to get into the city for people who don't live in it, so you'd think they would want to keep it clean and safe. read more

I am getting a good laugh at some of these remarks. The less than reputable characters, poor signage (ok that can be improved), an unclean restroom? - Really? I did not even know Malden Center Station actually had restrooms. Guess what kids, this an MBTA Station not The Eurostar lounge at St. Pancras. Don't like the patrons, beggars, meth heads, and assorted creeps? (I have yet to notice them to be truthful) Put on your "tough guy face", have your headset and shades on and carry your stride with a little determination and purpose like you have some place to go (You do have some place to go, don't you?). A slight air of a "Don't F**K with me attitude goes a long way and in most cases is not even needed. In short act like a local and you will have no trouble at all. Malden Center Station is safe all the time. I know as I have patronized it from open to close. The advantages of Malden Center Station. Easy access into Boston (that is a given). Good bus connections if that is what you need. A short walk to a Stop & Shop, The Dockside, an Applebees (If that is your thing) and of course Hugh O'Neill's Irish Pub. Dry your eyes and suck it up buttercup. Got get a beer or a coffee at Dunkin Donuts. You will feel better. read more

Hmm... I've only been living in Malden for a little over a month. I haven't noticed the crackheads yet, but then again, I usually have tunnel vision in my quest to get in and out of here as fast as possible. That said, there was a recent news story about a class act who stole a wallet right off the lap of a disabled man in a wheelchair in this station. Overall, I think it's a fine T-stop. It seems to function well enough. There are annoying people everywhere. It doesn't seem any worse here than anywhere else. I haven't had any major hassles or been harassed by any skeezy guys, so far anyway. I like that there's a place for cars to pull over and pick up/drop off. I have noticed the bizarre burning smell mentioned by another reviewer. What is that?? Smells like burnt toast to me. It extends over the general area. I mostly notice it when walking through the nearby Stop and Shop parking lot. read more

I do not give Malden Center Station 5 stars necessarily because it is good. But because it is hilarious. I've gone here probably over 3,000 times in my life, and it is always an adventure. The crackheads are hilarious, as are the teenage losers who "beg for money to get home to Dedham". Yah right, I saw you at Wellington too! All the buses I need (101, 411, 104, 108,430) are right here. I love the commuter rail here, I can shoot up right to Lawrence for the day and be home in 20 minutes from the station. A great train station, that has given me many memories (some good, some horrible, some quite hilarious). read more

Malden center: It's not bad!!! I have been here many times to tell you that the experience is not horrible at all. The station is kept clean. Not the cleanest but you could find a couple of wrappers here and there. It's fast, parking is cheap, there is plenty of parking, that is why they have a parking lot and two parking garages!! read more

I have been here for 8 years in Malden and have passed through this station many many times.. Somehow entering in from the main side in the morning rush hour always gives me a feeling of dread (all people kinda of crush into 1-2 open doors).. It's dirty, and an overall unpleasant place to visit. Sometimes you get a full on nut case yelling and screaming just to be obnoxious =) Can't say I will miss the place.. read more
