North of Boston, Wellington MBTA station is in Medford and serves the Orange Line. The station does have a large 1300-space parking garage that is linked to the station with a long pedestrian skybridge that goes over the tracks and a maintenance facility. Overnight parking (up to 10 nights!) is permitted. The station is fully handicapped accessible from the parking garage area. There are audible and visual displays of the next trains in both directions. The ticketing lobby has a number of kiosks for purchasing a ticket or adding value to your CharlieCard. There is a small Dunkin Donuts kiosk just outside the ticketing area. The station is between Assembly (inbound, towards Forest Hills) and Malden Center (outbound towards Oak Grove). read more

When we were in the Boston area, we used this train station a couple of times. It's not very clean, but it was very convenient to park there and go to the city and back. Kids 11 and under rode for free, but you have to enter with them right in front of you, we didn't realize that until a worker told us, but we had already used our credit to pay for the kids. We were also told at the station that kids 12 and up have to pay as adults, unless they live in Boston and get a train card at their school. read more

I park here often, the over all note is the staff are super nice in the lot to the back of the station. (When you pass through the ticket gate not the front two lots.) Parking closer to the guard station is always a plus. One of the attendants noticed my car there over night and the next day asked what happen if I was ok. He's super nice!! He suggested if I need to leave my car park near the manned 24hr payment booths, less likely to be broken into. He recognized my car!!! Sweetheart!!! The station itself is cold, old and could use some TLC but sometimes it saves me a lot of time making it into the city faster than the bus and redline from home. Happy travels!!!! read more

I hate the parking choices here. I hate the curvy roads full of busses darting in and out of traffic. I hate the actual traffic on the stop ramp prior to getting on Route 16 and the amount of acceleration it takes to get up to speed on a hill at a stop with cars zipping behind you at 45 MPH. It's still clean enough of a suburban T station to warrant 3 stars. It feels safe even with the barrage of traffic coming in and out of here at rush hour. It's a great thing to have a walkway that goes over to Station Landing and all of the excellent restaurants that the area now serves. And a 8 - 12 minute ride into Boston, depending on which station you are stopping at, is a super positive when it comes to the location of it. You take the bad with the good. If your hotel is in the area, take a cab over to Wellington or the bus but I dunno, I have a hard time recommending parking here. If you're a commuter, you already know the drill and likely feel as I do about the entire experience. :) read more

dunkin donuts right in front of the entrance FTW in MA? I guess that is part of why Americans are so chawby. Choke down some dugnuts and slurp some caffine tar while not exercising and well... yeah you end up gaining a few lbs... But this is about the Wellinton station isn't it... sorry for digressing... But YES! They do have a Dunkin Donuts at the entrance to the platform area. They also have a drink stand selling various concoctions including hot dogs and coconuts. I was a lil surprised to find that in this neck of the woods myself. None the less your grub and beverages are taken care of with these two vendors. They had a giant parking lot here... the lot costs $6 to park and its for all day. That isn't too bad of a deal IMHO, especially when compared to parking in Boston and the additional costs of driving being added in. So I am curious why this isnt a commuter station again? They didn't have enough ticket selling machines IMHO. This station is quite literally 2-3 times as big as the Malden station and but it had 1/2 the ticket machines? I don't understand that at all. However, it was fairly clean and they had a security patrol that I noticed. Pretty good deal overall I think. I would definitely come back and use this station again I think. read more

It's there when you need it, call 1-800...wait... But yeah, Wellington always has spots. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I live 3 T-stops away but have to park here because it's the only lot that doesn't fill to capacity by 6:30am. Cash only? Not anymore, suckersssss. Although I'd still recommend paying in cash because paying with a credit card takes about a zillion years and ain't nobody got time for that. If you notice that the Forrest Hills train arrives in 15 minutes, there's a Dunkins in the station to tide you over, so you can eat your sorrows via a Boston creme donut or a salted caramel hot cocoa (cheers to obesity! And deliciousness). Note: this is not Oak Grove. The chances of getting a seat on the T in the morning are pretty much slim to none. So you'll be spooning other standing passengers while you all cram in the tiny trains, at least until North Station, possibly until DTX. Man up, and try not to get in a fight about it. It's kind of awkward for the rest of us. read more

Parking garage is separated from the the T station by tracks. No problem right, just have a walkway? NOPE. POS tram system plagued commuters for years (constantly breaking down), and with no other choice but to walk, well, that's not much fun. Finally they are replacing this with a walkway, which will be done...oh, well, I guess it was supposed to be done by now, but alas, you must rely on shuttle buses (if they show up). Basically you pay to park, then you walk yourself over to the station (along the fells). Thanks, but no thanks. *UPDATE* Tram is finally dead, and there is a walkway now. read more

I love this place for it's location, but I can't give it too many stars just for existing -- that's not really the point. Wellington loses points because half the machines give you error messages or are broken, there are homeless people littering the hallways at night, and there is NEVER (I repeat, NEVER) a person in the booth. Gets a star because it does have a little food mart and cheap parking. Gets an extra star because I have gone here at night in club clothes alone to head into Boston to meet my boyfriend, and I wasn't raped or killed. read more

This is an excellent T stop on the Orange Line that's off the highway and super close to Boston with a large outdoor parking lot. We went here on a Sunday and the lot was practically deserted. It was a very quick walk inside the station and the train came after a few minutes. This was especially nice since there were problems on the Green Line that we completely avoided by going Orange. I've been to Alewife which is enormous and indoor parking garages are never fun. Depending on where you're headed, it's nice to park at a T stop rather than take the Commuter Rail -- especially on the weekend -- or attempt to find (reasonably priced) parking in Boston. I'll use this station regularly as I've found Oak Grove to be a bit in the middle of nowhere and the Alewife area is confusing. read more

Over the past two years, I used to walk here all the time from my then boyfriends apartment over in Ten Hills. It would be so damn quick and easy especially with the walk way there. Makes me wanna say, mister walk me down the walk way.... yeaaah anyways. So, with that said; I still visit there on occasion (hi ten hills). Oh can I just say in the winter and this is totally off topic; the friggen walk over to his place, yeah I have to walk on the bridge with cars cause they don't do that sidewalk, argh! It's scary and not fun SO if you do spot me feel free to offer me a lift. Please. See? Totally off topic. The station is 3 in from Oak Grove and sometimes you just miss the opportunity with weather conditions where you have to wait for the next train ("that's directly behind us" ...riiight!). Lots of bus connections here, useful. I've utilized them several times over the years. When I lived in Boston my roommate and I would take the T to here and walk over to Target and that area, quick ten minute walk to the shopping, ahh I miss that! I mean the living in Boston thing, hey college. So, overall it does it for me; it works. Plus when I get off the T and can go to Kappys then walk to my friends place.. nice.; straight shot at everything. read more

What can you really say about a T-Stop. You pay, the train comes, you ride. I like the Wellington stop b.c. there a shot at an express train, and there is parking. I also like that there are not too many bums here. I dont like the Wellington stop b.c it costs $5.50 to park. How can it cost twice the amount of ticket to park in the burbs? Train to work on Friday is great. Let's me go out as hard as I want and not have to worry about the drive home. read more

During the day, this place is pretty good: Dunkin' Donuts and generally a lot of people milling about, but at night: after 9pm, security staff goes AWOL and it's generally you v. the crazies. While waiting for the bus I've been propositioned for drugs on multiple occasions, and there is always some one making you uncomfortable, asking for money. My tip: if waiting for bus late at night, stay in terminal, don't wait outside by the stop, this simple action will save you a lot of grief. read more

Wellington is very convenient, and reasonably priced, for taking the T into Boston from the north. There's plenty of parking. It's also good for a multiple-day stay of up to either 7 or 8 days. It's a lot cheaper than long-term parking closer to downtown. The only thing I don't like about it is that crazy entrance/exit from the north where you're crossing lanes and having to watch out for buses. read more

I like that the station has a Dunkin Donuts. A quick coffee fix is very crucial before & after work. The station is pretty clean & I always hop on the train whenever I'm meeting friends in Back Bay for dinner and drinks. Put your ipod on & just go with the flow. read more

Wellington is a lot better than Malden T stop. The platforms at Wellington have more space and I don't have to worry about some jerk running up the stairs who is late trying to knock me onto the tracks when the train is approaching. I still remember when Wellington station was new. read more

This is perhaps one of the best stations I have been too. Usually train come pretty fast. They are never packed. The only thing I hate are the ladies working in the coffee shop trying to lure me over to buy coffee, and that long dreadful sky walk. I take it twice a day. Which probably explains why I don't gain any weight I guess! I have been here on late nights. Never had a problem with bums or people trying to stick me up. Thank god. read more

Why on earth do you allow reviews of SUBWAY STOPS!? But fine - I'll play that game. Parking - a rip off. There is a garage, if you're up for the 1/2 mile walk to it. And no, that's not a joke. The station itself is fine - big and roomy. I like how when you're coming home from Boston, both sides of the train doors open up, so you can still get off even though the morons are still standing there blocking the doors. Sometimes you find cops in the morning searching people's bags. What they expect to find, I don't know. I doubt they've ever found it, and that's just more of my $ down the drain. Way to go, Boston - keep the post-9-11 fever of fear alive! read more

You bring me to Red Sox and Bruins games, you make sure I get home safe when I've had too much to drink, and you provide endless hours of some of the finest people watching this city has to offer. I have been using Wellington for non-peak trips for about 20 years. I occasionally find the parking to be confusing. The back lot is usually closed when I go. Then the middle/main lot sometimes has no attendant. The big lot, in the weeds (out by Route 16) has a booth that is often unoccupied. Last night, in a cold driving rainstorm, we drove around the Wellington complex, trying to find a lot that was open and attended. After some confusion, we wound up going into the "weed" lot. No attendant, so I wondered if sometimes there is no charge to park there. We ran from the car into the station because of the rain. When we arrived back at the lot around 10:30 pm, the car was gone. My initial thought was that it was stolen, but by then, the middle lot's booth was manned, and he told me to call the number posted on a phone pole to see if my car was towed. We called the number on the sign, and it went to voice mail. No one called back, so we took a cab to the address of the towing company printed on the sign, hoping to find my car there (we did). This is a 24 hour operation with a doorbell. No one answered it. Then I saw my car behind the fenced area, with a different number to call. A live person answered it, and he told me someone would be by shortly to assist. That was only a quick wait, but a $130 towing fee + a $20 cab ride later. The tow driver told me there was an auto- pay kiosk, but I have never seen it. I will go back in the daytime and scope out where it is, not at night, and especially in a rainstorm with poor visibility. I have never tried to get a free ride by cheating any system. Too bad the parking company or the city really needed that fee from me, especially in a lot where there were hardly any cars. It's not like people were competing for that space. The reason I gave it 2 stars is that I have seen automatic pay stations in all kinds of parking lots, large and small, and they are always well-marked and obvious. Not at Wellington. read more

This place is twice the distance away from my apartment, but I drive here instead of Oak Grove or Malden because of the parking situation. Seriously, this parking lot is HUGE. It's a big commuter station, so there's a lot of people here from New Hampshire and further away in MA. The only problem is that if you get there after 10 on a weekday, you will NOT find a parking space, and then you're screwed driving into Boston and paying $23 to park for the day, as opposed to $5.50. read more

I love that this place has a coffee shop right next to the turnstiles. Bad news, there are a bunch of workers waiting just inside the doors, they make me really uncomfortable and I dread going there in the early mornings and seeing them all leer at me. read more

One thing I can say about the bay area that is negative is the lag time we are in for catching up with the rest of the country on public transportation and the quality and efficiency of it. BART can get really expensive and what's with the paper tickets that are still generated, common! Boston has a great public transporation system where they already generated these electronic Clipper cards that look like credit cards, you just pass it over the sensor and it beeps you, we in the bay area just got the same kind of system called the Translink. But anyhoo, the public transportation in Boston is great. The only part is getting to the train that you need for your destination, like anywhere else in the world such as France, you have to make sure you're on the right connection. There are different levels at each station, this one is straight forward. It was clean enough and there was a vendor incase you needed water or snacks. The cons are that if you drive to the station, the parking costs $5.50, eesh! read more

I was there today mainly to check out the location of Kelly's Roast Beef, as I'd like to go there for lunch tomorrow. Walking the skywalk was easy. My problem was, I couldn't figure out how to get out of the parking garage, and get to that restaurant. So I ended up walking back, as there was no one there I could ask for help. read more
