Cramped, but useful. You get a lot of people on here going to and from the airport, which means a lot of luggage, which means it's totally cramped. Sort of a pain but - it does take you to the airport - all terminals - which is pretty convenient. read more

Very clean, bright, sunny, airy train station. Quiet and nice; doesn't get stuffy and hot like the underground Ts.

Since I actually grew up here, I must say going to airport via public transportation is MUCH easier now than 15 years ago! Indeed, I somehow have to get to South Station, which is conveniently located, in order to take the Silver Line to the terminals. I took the Red Line in so I didn't have to pay extra for the Silver Line. I'm just happy that I don't have to transfer to the Blue Line and then take the shuttle to the terminals. It's a good addition; but like with everything else, there's room for improvement. Blue Peeps can take the shuttle. Red Peeps can take the Silver. Green and Orange Peeps are just SOL - go transfer! What is Quirky is that the 2 Silver Lines are not connected. They should seriously change the color of one to avoid confusion. I am a magnet for being asked for directions when I'm just standing on the sidewalk. read more

After visiting Jessika's and dragging my 50lb luggage through the slushy snow on Prospect St (NOT recommended), I got on the Red Line in Central Sq and headed down to South Station for my transfer to the Silver Line for Logan. I first heard about the Silver Line in 2004 when I came to Boston for a teacher workshop and I never really thought about taking it vs the Blue Line since Jessika refer to it as the "Ghetto Bus Line". No reference to the "Ghetto Line" which is the Orange. Why this is put with the subway lines I still don't understand. For those who haven't taken it, there are actually several branches to the Silver Line. The SL1 that takes you to Logan, and SL2 and 3. These branches leave from South Station. There is a different Silver Line that runs along Wash St. From South Station to the airport, it runs on its own dedicated lane to Courthouse, WTC, and then Logan. It isn't any faster than taking the Blue Line and then taking the shuttle. If you have lots of luggage, I would plan your trip so that you can determine which route with take the least amount of luggage transfer until the airport. read more

Thank goodness for the Silver Line! Getting to/from Logan is such a breeze now; no more need for the Blue Line/shuttle mess. I've never had any problems with having to wait around for one of the train/buses to arrive at South Station. I've taken the Silver Line many times and I don't think I've waited more than a couple of minutes on the platform. In fact, most of the time they seem to be there as I step onto the platform. I will agree that the naming of routes is a bit strange, but generally there is a T worker on the platform (or the driver) who can confirm if it's making a particular stop. read more

*3.5 stars* I flew into Boston at a time of day during which it would be ill advised for my sister or niece to drive to the airport to pick me up. So, my niece explained the Silver Line to me, and I took that to South Station, where I caught the Red Line. Naturally, on a Friday evening the bus was overflowing with people and luggage -- and there was barely enough room for everyone. However, the trip to South Station was mercifully rather short. This was an easy way to travel, and definitely makes getting to/from the airport pretty simple. read more

Wow, you can review the silver line on yelp? Can I review the weather? Seriously, lotsa griping here, folks. But when you boil it down, it only really needs two improvements...two CHEAP improvements, I might add: 1. Right of way. It shouldn't have to stop for lights, traffic, whatever. Especially in deserted South Boston. That's absurd. Bus, train, whatever, that isn't important. Just give it clear passage, have an automatic sensor or something. This isn't hard. If the Silver Line approaching can automatically make a gate go up, why can't it make a traffic light go green? Make it happen already!! 2. PAVE the tunnel from South Station to South Boston. I can't think of a good enough analogy to express how that ride feels. It's like going off-roading in a '91 Hyundai Accent with bad shocks.... That or pass out mouthguards so people don't practically bite their goddamn tongues off. Paving and $40 radio shack sensors, and really, what else is missing? (What? A little history on the Silver Line.....A long, long time ago in a place called Boston, the administration promised to extend the MBTA subway system through the poorer parts of Boston. After dozens of promises, these new residents got their new silver line - not a shiny new subway system, but a bus. A silver bus. The tourists might be fooled when they look on the map and see it's just another color (how cute!), but one ride on this piece of junk and you'll know what a big joke this is. Absolute rubbish. It is a bus that goes through a tunnel. Why is it on the subway map? Just because you can get a transfer ticket? And why do the stations have announcement signs that say "Every 10 minutes to Logan Airport " when I waited 20 until a bus came. And then it does so many loop-de-loops before it goes through the Ted Williams Tunnel that it takes forever (the 5 mph speed doesn't help either). It took 45 minutes to cross the channel to the airport from downtown! Rubbish. read more

I live off of Washington St and take the Silver Line often so I can't be accused of being an occasional traveler. It sucks. The only good thing about the Silver Line is that it is the only T service that has real-time arrivals. Other than that, it's loud (fix the brakes already!), it's always crowded, it has to compete with traffic, and there are WAY TOO MANY STOPS. Herald Street? Really?? read more

MBTA, I beg you, replace the seats on these buses/trains/I don't know what to call these accordion-like vehicles. I just sat in pee. And while obviously that is an unusual experience, those seats are still filthy even on the best of days. Two stars for the convenience that the Silver Line offers to those commuters who use it daily, or to get to the airport for cheap. But in my case, I've only ever really taken the SL5 from downtown to the South End, and that doesn't happen very often. So I think I will be sacrificing that convenience from now on, and hoofing it next time I want to venture out that way. read more

Skipping the blue line route to Logan is key, I tried it once and I never will again. If you live off the red-line this is the ideal way to get to Logan. It's only short coming is that if you have never taken this trip before you have to pay attention, either you could end up wasting time being lost. The bus you want to take is the Logan Airport: S1 Silver Line bus. They will announce the terminal stops and airlines, so don't worry. There are racks to but your bags on, please use them because this bus gets packed and I would rather not get whacked in the knees by your bag. read more

Boston subway maps show the silver "line" as just another route. It's not! It's a bus that is subject to rush hour traffic outside of the downtown tunnel. If you are heading to the airport at 5pm skip the so called silver "line" and take the blue line instead. read more

For someone on the red line, the silver line is a BLESSING! Before the silver line, you had to take the red line to either the green line (not rolling bag assessable) or the orange line (never comes often enough--too crowded) on stop until you reached thew blue line which you would then go down many steps at government center with no elevator. Next you would take the snazzy blue line to the airport and then transfer again to the airport shuttle. NOT FUN! IT WOULD TAKE MORE THAN AN HOUR TO GET TO THE AIRPORT. THE SILVER LINE SAVES THAT!!! Yes, it is a bus. Yes it only goes 10 miles an hour in the tunnel for an unknown reason, and yes the two portions of a "line" are not connected, but it is a miracle. The stations are clean and beautiful! The busses run more frequently than the Blue line (every 12 minutes rather than every 13) Most of the busses have luggage racks! I have brought my skis on this bus to the airport!! IMPORTANT: You do not have to pay to board at the airport any more!!!! That means all the doors open and stay open SO USE THEM!!!! Don't be that guy that only waits at the front door. DISCLAIMER: It does switch from gas to electric along the way--don't be in too much of a hurry! Travelers, if you need to catch a train at south station from the airport leave at least an hour and 10 minutes!!!! Or you will be cutting it way too close!! I saw someon almost miss their train!! Follow this advice and you will see that perhaps bus -rapid transit works in some instances--there was no way they could build another tunnel under the harbor for another train. read more

Let me qualify this by saying I took it at 12pm on a Sunday. After a week in P-Town, walked off the Bay State Cruises ferry and down B Street to Congress in less than 10 mins. Mostly empty bus pulled up in about 5 mins. At Terminal B, stop 2, about 15 mins later. read more

The Silver Line is a partially underground, partially electrified bus that runs, among other directions, from South Station to the airport. It is slow (posted signs say 6 MPH) and the frequency of service, in my experience, is often low (waits of 15+ minutes at 3 pm on a weekday.) It IS free, but decide for yourself if you have enough time and patience for this inadequate, irritating, and frustrating transportation. read more

I take the SL2 4 days a week from my job in the seaport area. I have ALWAYS had polite, professional drivers until today. I was walking to the bus at 4:15 pm Friday smoking a cigarette that I put out at least 30 feet away from the door. Im not a jerk. I fully understand that not everyone smokes & most people dont like it. As I got to the open front door the nasty, extremely unprofessional woman driver slammed the door in my face, in the freezing cold & told me shd wouldn't let me on because I had been smoking. Ummm....excuse me. WHAT?? She was so rude & nasty that when I did get on I asked her name which she refused to give to me & proceeded to drive away in such a crazy way that I almost fell walking to my seat. Thiz woman needs a serious class in customer service & professionalism. Theres NO WAY that this person should be working with the public. Her driving continued to be reckless so that other people could barely make it to their seats too. I bet my life that someone either will get hurt sometime on her route or she will be the cause of an accident. Because she has refused to give me her name all I can do is give a description of her..Shes roughly 45 years old, black woman with glasses & a somewhat big afro. I hope to God I dont get on this womans bus again because I AM in customer service & we are going to have a serious problem if she thinks she is going to speak to me or treat me in her disgusting manner again! Convenient from south end to south station, but 90 percent of the drivers seem rude and have terrible attitudes. Overall, most of the time it feels as if the driver is doing me a favor or I'm wasting their time. MBTA, start hiring some personable people that actually want to work. read more

The Washington Street part of the Silver Line is some of the best people watching in the City. It also brings you to all the fun, new, stuff in the South End. Just make sure to pretend like you are coming out of a cab and not the bus when you hop off to try out one of the trendy, new restaurants. Gotta fit in with the crowd. read more

I might be the only one who feels this way, but I like the Silver Line. Sure, it's a bus that doesn't go very fast, but it goes directly to 2 of my work sites. It's also a lot cheaper than taking a taxi to Logan; and it's a Hell of a lot faster than taking the Red Line to the Green Line to the Blue Line to the old shuttle bus to Logan. I missed my flight because of the SL1 today. I feel let down. When the SL1 first started going to the airport, I used to ride it all the time. Heck, I used to SING to other people about it. No more going from the Red Line to the Green Line to the Blue Line to the Airport Shuttle (3 changes!). Add to that a dedicated track? Heck yeah. Beat that friday evening traffic too. Today the SL1 took 15 minutes to arrive. I wasn't worried. But it took 45 minutes to get to my Terminal, instead of what should be the usual 20. I have taken it several times a year since 2005, yet I don't once remember it sharing roadways with traffic BEFORE the Ted Williams tunnel with other traffic. Is this new? Say what you will though, it still beats paying exorbitant cab fares, unreasonable parking charges, or several line changes. Which is why I'll be leaving home 3 hours before my flight tomorrow, a full hour more than today. read more

At South Station, it always bugs me that the Sliver Line names are never distinguished in the T directories. Airport passengers rarely know to look for "SL1" and there is no posted information to inform them. Sticker signs on the columns are the worst attempt to direct airport travelers. As a regular passenger on the Silver Line, I've witnessed many an airport traveler's confusion. It would also be helpful if the operators were consistent with displaying their route number. They're have been dozens of instances where the outbound operator would not update their display from blank or "Not In Service" until after they've opened and closed their doors to board passengers. Runs late, skips buses, takes longer than scheduled. You can't rely on this if you aren't arriving early for your flight.

Quite possibly the worse public transit bus in the city of Boston. This "light rail" was supposed to take the place of the orange which was removed from the south end years ago, however all it is is a glorifed bus. At times that bus is so crowded that you feel people's hands on your body, eek and more often than not someone is throw off the bus for drinking booze in the early morning hours. read more

The few times I have taken this bus to the airport it was not enjoyable. The disregard of the drivers for the passengers amazes me. I might add, a guy who used to go to my store, far south of Boston, was an SL2 driver, great guy! But the last two times I took this bus, the same exact thing happened. As I was getting on with my heavy luggage BOTH drivers shut the door on me, literally on me. They stop for no more then 10 seconds to pick up people that they see have luggage and clearly are headed to the airport, which is stressful enough, and instead of giving them a minute to get situated, they shut the doors without so much as looking back. Unbelievable. I am literally getting heated just thinking about it. The last time the driver did this I had three bags weighing 60 lbs. each! I asked him what the f was wrong with him and he completely ignored me. And the bus was empty! It was like 11 at night! The only reason I give it two stars is because it's quick and cost-effective. Otherwise the service sucks. I think the luggage racks on the buses are poorly situated and not spacious enough for anything larger than a 26" suitcase. Also during the day the bus gets very crowded, and then there's really no place to put your luggage but in the aisle. I'd suggest this bus line if you are headed in the airport direction WITHOUT luggage, from now on I'll take a taxi. read more

I am only giving the Silver Line 1 star because YELP won't let me give it it a 0 star rating!! I despise the Silver Line! It's a total piece of crapola!!! An embarrasment to the city of Boston! Don't believe a word the MBTA attempts to tell the public about it! As far as I am concerned the MBTA has lost ALL credibility in the way that they've deceived the transit rididng public abou the Silver Lie! Has anyone else noticed how the MBTA has truncated certain bus routes between Dudley & Ruggles so as to force people onto the Silver Bus, and thereby artificially inflate the silver bus's ridership?! I have a 1936 Boston Elevated System map. Along Washington Street it shows an elevated heavy rail line, and on the surface there's a trolley line that goes into the central subway that took people to Park Street. Washington Street essentially had local & express rail service. And now an articulated silver painted bus that gets stuck in traffic is supposed to be an adequate replacement? I don't think so! I have travelled to Melbourne Australia specifically to ride their trams, I have specifically travelled to Curitiba Brazil to ride "authentic" Bus Rapid Transit, and I must say that I have not once ridden a bus on Washington Street in the 5 years since the buses were painted silver!! And I won't, even though I live within walking distance of Dudley Square!! Please everyone let the T know that you refuse to believe their lies about the Silver Line, and DEMAND light rail on Washington Street!!! read more
