I had my teeth polished first - which I thought odd, but read up on it and it appears to be a smarter method, then the dentist actually does the cleaning (new to me) with a water pick type of tool. It was actually a really good visit, a....dare I say, enjoyable experience. I've never had an enjoyable experience at the dentist. I went to Dr. Blaha before - whom I adore but had to change because we switched insurance and she is not network. I know I have a lot of work that needs to be done so I decided to go here because my family does. Well, I'm glad I did!

Following a very traumatic experience with my former dentist, I'm embarrassed to admit that, up…read moreuntil December, it had been at least 5 years since I'd been to the dentist. I take care of my teeth (ok, ok, I don't floss), but I haven't been maintaining them because I was afraid to go back to the dentist -- any dentist. Add to that the fact that I apparently am incapable of picking up a phone and calling to make an appointment, and things were getting rough. Turns out not ONLY is Dr. Carol Akers and the team members at her practice, In Harmony Dental Care, able and willing to communicate via text message, email or phone (whatever works for you), they're also all kind, responsive, courteous, bi-lingual, and just generally pretty amazing. My first visit in December was for a cleaning and check-up. First impressions: clean, comfortable office; state-of-the-art equipment; friendly staff; good, calming music playing; and they paid attention. Before m hygienist brought Dr. Akers in, I had told her that I had a bad experience previously. When Dr. Akers came into the room, she asked about it, validated my concerns, and talked about how we could communicate and work with one another to make sure I always felt safe. Following the exam, it was evident that the 5 years away from regular check-ups had taken their toll (the pain in my mouth had kinda hinted at that). Dr. Akers explained everything I needed to have done and ballparked me an overall cost, but scheduled a brief consult follow-up so that she could work up a full plan to review with me. A week later we met in the office and she reviewed my entire prioritized care plan (can't wait, can wait, let's keep an eye on this) and the estimated price and then we compared that against my dental insurance and my financial situation and adjusted so that we could be sure that I maximized my annual dental plan and minimized my out of pocket cost. We've started working on the plan and every visit has been almost completely pain free and, believe it or not, relaxing. She hums when she works and I always giggle a little and she apologizes. With my mouth full of stuff, I try to assure her that my giggles are in appreciation of the calming that her sweet hums provide. When she can't find another tune to catch her fancy, she turns to Christmas carols. And I love it. I had a lot of visits between December and February, but now I'm done with my work for a bit. Not gonna lie, when I was leaving after my last visit, I felt a little sad and knew that I was going to miss Dr. Akers and her team until I get to come back in for my next cleaning. They take every precaution to ensure the office is safe during the pandemic, including wearing ALL the PPE and having the office thoroughly disinfected every night. If you have dental anxiety, want to be treated with consideration and compassion, and want your mouth to feel healthy again, please go see Dr. Akers and her team. You'll be glad you did.

Everyone from the receptionist to billing to the hygienists are so nice and friendly. They use hydrotherapy to clean teeth which is amazing. Instead of the constant scraping they use powerful water that leaves my teeth squeaky clean.

I dreaded it for DAYS but when the moment finally came, I was stressed out yes, but the staff were super nice and friendly and I was eligible for gas which lessened my anxiety by A LOT. Also they always kept me in the loop as to what they were doing and I was never belittled or made to feel like I was an awful person (I am super self-conscious about my teeth) and they actually made a plan with me for future appointments. 100/10, the best dental experience I've ever had and they are GREAT with dental anxiety. Will definitely be going back. My only critique is the office in Lawrence is a liiiiittle difficult to spot if you don't know what you're looking for. But I'd say it's worth it.

The whole family just joined as new patients (based on extensive kudos from Angie's list) and they do everything about new patient intake well. Great with children too. Both docs, two receptionists, and all three hygienists I dealt with were fantastic. The office is also very well appointed and centrally located. Love it here.

Shoal Creek Dental Care is efficient--no sitting around waiting to be seen, professional and financially prudent. We always discuss what costs I am incurring and the relative necessity for a procedure. The office atmosphere is modern snd clean. They have a TV set up so you can watch something while they mess with your mouth. A nice perk, but unfortunately daytime TV lacks in content!! I also really appreciate that they DON'T chit chat with you while doing a cleaning. There is nothing more annoying at the dentist than having someone ask you questions that you can only respond to with an "AHHNNG YAHHHD". My barometer for dentists is whether or not they tell me I need my wisdom teeth out. I have all four and they fit in my mouth just fine. In the past, some dentists have told me that I should "preemptively" remove them which seems like a scam to me. But Drs. V and J asked if I wanted them out and when I said "no" they said that there is no reason to unless I wanted them out. I appreciate that honesty! They do things electronically, which I prefer. You can book your appointment online and they email you reminders. They also emailed me copies of my x-rays after I had them done (I asked for them), I like to know what I look like inside! My only complaint is that once one of the dental assistants (I don't remember her name) told me I should remove my wisdom teeth because she hates cleaning them. A completely unacceptable and unprofessional thing to say, right? But the dentists disagree, so it doesn't matter.

Most of my appointments are early, at 8, when they first open, so I don't have to wait long. They give me just enough time to grab a cup of coffee from the Kuerig. They have a full coffee bar with three different creamers, syrup to add, all in addition to a plentiful stock of K-Cups. If you do need to wait, they have a Wii in a little room with a flat screen tv. The receptionist is on top of insurance, and asks a couple questions verifying current address, phone number, etc. The dental hygienist took me to the chair after about five minutes of waiting. I told her I had a meeting at 8, and she said well let's gets you taken care of. She cleaned my teeth, talking me through everything she was about to do. She made pleasant conversation, as some dentists are better than others at a single sided conversation, then if I wanted to say something she would remove the tools and let me speak. Dr Katie Watson was out on maternity leave. Her replacement was a younger lady who examined everything, poked around a little bit, showed me some exposed areas where there might be a threat of sensitivity, let me know what they could do if it bothered me, and voila! All done in 35 minutes. I had a very pleasant experience, and this was my second visit here I highly recommend Stone Post Dental.

They have a comfortable and elegant waiting area (including a Keurig!) My hygienist is careful but thorough so I'm never in pain but get the maximum clean. She always provides little recommendations if I'd like an even better smile; which I appreciated. She recommended an electric toothbrush, which I purchased and saw great improvements. Now I've been more dedicated to my flossing, which she also suggested. Dr. Watson is so sweet. She always comes in for the final check. They are good about taking photos and x-rays when needed, but never suggest things you don't really need or shouldn't be worrying about. Always a wonderful experience! I'm so glad I met Dr. Watson and began using her for my dental needs!
