The maze pen we won is pretty cool. My 10 year old nephew was easily able to complete all the tasks and seemed to enjoy doing it. Some things were like video games, which he seemed to like and maybe it will give him some ideas about career possibilities for the future. It was a good learning opportunity about the importance of saving water and learning about what happens to all the water we waste, etc. I wish I lived in Olympia and was able to trace where the water goes when I flush the toilet. It was nice that they ask you to share what you learn when you go to redeem your prize. For a long time Steve and I have been wanting to go to the Westport Maritime Museum but never did due to always having the dogs with us but finally we made it here quite recently. The admission is $5 and that gives you the ability to explore the upstairs and downstairs of the main museum building, an adjacent building where a lighthouse lens is located and two other structures with large windows with whale bones housed inside them along with some other mammal bones. The cost of admission is totally worth with what you get to see and for me the main highlight was the lighthouse lens as I'm sure it was for a lot of visitors. Lots of clutter picked up from the ocean waters and used as artifacts which is fascinating (because a lot of this stuff came from various parts of Asia) and disturbing at the same time. Lots of other intriguing content to look at as well and a very nice gift shop. Great way to spend a bit of time while exploring the marina. I don't feel like you'd spend an enormous amount of time here. Maybe an hour to an hour and a half but it depends on your pacing but no need to wipe out a whole afternoon to fit this museum in.

Well we finally decided to stop and visit and we were glad we did. It was one of those "why have we never done this before?" kinda moments. It's not big by any stretch, though we were told that they would be expanding in the near future. Will definitely come back once they have. There is no entrance fee, only a sign in book and request for a donation, but it's only a request...that you should definitely donate to. Anyways despite the size, there is much to explore and loads of history about the area that you might or might not have known. It's also a beach comber's haven, the collection of stuff found on the local beaches is super fascinating! The volunteer working there was very knowledgeable and she was able to answer any questions or provide information about anything that was on display or the history of the area. One of the more interesting things to me was the debris that washed up all the way from Japan during the tsunami over a decade ago. They also provide a little gift shop area to bring home any keep sakes or mementos of your visit. So the next time you are on the 109 between Moclips and Pacific Beach and you spot the Museum of the North Beach, stop in and look around. You might even learn something you did not know.

The collection is their own private collection which is housed in several buildings on their rural horse property. While the museum collection is made up of primarily carriages and sleighs, there is much more to the story...if you're a gear head/racing enthusiast, be sure to ask about the owner's racing history, the Bonneville Boomer (a highly modified chopped and channeled '39 ford coupe... unfortunately not a part of the collection), a '32 roadster "push car" and the 600 mile multi-state push...that's one heck of a memorable honeymoon! The guided tour is thorough and the owners' love and passion for history is evident in the stories you'll hear!

Coast, not too far from where we would be visiting in Oregon, this tiny but well-laid out museum became our (his...) first MUST STOP location, even if it was several hours out of our way!! The Corsair was back on display after several years of being completely restored, and even from a non-fanatic's point of view, they did a GREAT job on this baby, and are justifiably proud of it here!! Interesting, informative displays, lots of history, and very informative friendly guides if you need more info. Not a ton to see, but if you're in the area (or even several hours/time zones away...) it's definitely worth a visit!!

This museum, housed in the  former "Our Saviors First Norwegian Lutheran Church," is operated by…read morevolunteers from the Chehalis Valley Historical Society. They purchased the church building in 1987 for $6000. Over its life, the building has served various church congregations and was once even an antique store. The main focus of the museum is the history of the local timber industry. Another large industry that once existed around Chehalis was dairy, however there are no longer any dairy operations operating in the area. The museum is not large but has many interesting items to view. Be sure to check-out the hand carved wooden "hobo art" frame made without any nails or glue. There is also a old fashioned electric hair perm machine that looks like it could have been used as a torture device. Read the attached story...it certainly did torture women's hair! The lower level of the 1906 church was originally used as a stable by the congregation during services. Today it is used for a rotating museum display as well as a meeting place for the historical society. This little museum is only open on weekends with limited hours. If you're in the area or passing through Montesano, be sure to stop by for a glimpse into the past.

We lasted here a little over an hour, and I thought the stop was well worth it on our cloudy and wet morning.
