What a find!! I was helping with some work on the McCloud River not realizing how cold the water is. I needed gear- waders and sunglasses that I had lost on the trail and was told I would need to go into Dunsmuir to Ted Fay's shop- which I love but hoping there might be a place in town- like an Ace or fly shop. After a search on the Web I found Mccloud Outdoors - what a find!!! It is small but large on items needed for fishing and camping. I was able to get WOMENS sized waders, polarized sunglasses contemplated even more. They were not overpriced, very helpful, helped with fly selection. Wow, this shop has not only restored my faith in retailers but even humanity itself We stopped in after forgetting snow boots for the kiddos at home. As soon as we walked in Chad, the owner greeted us with a sincerely friendly hello. He can out from behind the counter and helped us find EVERYTHING we needed. I was so pleasantly surprised at the incredible selection for all ages. We found everything we needed at competitive prices, amazing! Added bonus was the cafe attached next store. If I could this business 10 stars, I would! After reading Yelp reviews we came here yesterday to rent a paddle board and kayak. The owner was super helpful and helped us load the kayak in our already over-filled truck. The paddle board was inflatable and came in a back pack. It was great quality! Both water toys held up and helped make a lifetime of memories. Upon our return, the owner was in the back grilling chicken for the coffee/lunch shop attached (which is to die for). When asking where to buy good fishing lures, without hesitation he opened his already closed shop and helped my son pick out some good lures (and let me use the restroom). I would definitely rent hear again. Prices were also super reasonable. Hint: Treat yourself to coffee, pastries or meal next door attached to the shop. The rental store has an amazing selection of outdoor supplies, water shoes, binding boots and super cute/comfy apparel. read more

We were 'camped out' at the Mccloud Dance Country RV Park. While taking a walking tour of town we stumbled on this business. Holy cow, THIS is the place to go if you want ANYTHING outdoors! They sell and/or rent just about everything. And the owners are extremely knowledgeable about every piece of gear in the store, as are all who work there. We decided to rent two kayaks - because it's SO affordable you almost HAVE to... We got the kayaks, paddles, and life vests for one low price. Amazing! And get this - if we hadn't had our pickup, they would have delivered the kayaks to the launch point on Mccloud Reservoir (which happens to be a wonderful place for fishing and kayaking - glass smooth). We just missed a moonlight paddle that they organized. The folks that attended paddled out in the moonlit evening on ripple free water in ear piercing silence to share in Champagne, wine, cheese, and disgusting chocolate goodies... OMG! We WILL arrange a vacation that coincides with one of these events. So if you're spending any time in Mccloud, you must stop in and check them out. You won't be disappointed. They organize all sorts of activities. I'm sure there's something going on that would make your day. read more

This is my favorite small business. Every year we take a family vacation at Lake Siskiyou and we rent several kayaks for the whole family to enjoy the small lakes in the area (our favorite is castle lake at sunset). We have an old mini-van without a roof rack, so along with the kayaks we also rent the trailer. Chad at McCloud Outdoors is just fantastic to work with. Always brimming with positivity and flexible in making it work for our large group. Just a wonderful person and we couldn't be more thrilled to rent from McCloud Outdoors every year. Great deal on quality gear (really, you won't find better pricing). We rented a kayak and SUP. Had a very nice chat with the owner and staff - very friendly - who offered us some very interesting history of McCloud + solid recommendations on which lakes to take the kids (we were not disappointed - in particular, McCloud river reserve which wasn't even on our radar until they recommended - a must go spot without a lot of people). They also sell good quality hiking/water gear in the shop, and there is a cute coffee place co-located on the property. read more

This place is small but mighty - in the quality of supplies and the graciousness, helpfulness and amazing level of customer service that Charlie, Cindy and their crew give everyone who walks through their doors. We discovered McCloud a couple of years ago, made a few trips up there to explore, and ended up buying our retirement home there. We discovered this store and, as outdoor types, have become regular customers. We love to support the local economy and Cindy and Charlie make that an easy thing to do. In fact, my husband bought me a kayak for Christmas from them - woohoo! I can't say enough great things about this place and the people who work there. Their reputation is stellar from locals to visitors. Not only can you buy high quality clothing and gear from them, they sell fishing licenses and, as a service will deliver and pick up rented kayaks to Lake McCloud for free. I don't know the full line of items they rent (other than kayaks bicyckes, and caving helmets) but during the winter I saw a woman bring back two kid's helmets and some other gear. They also organize kayak trips (some by the light of the full moon) as well as cave tours. McCloud Outdoors is the first place to go in the Mt. We were camping on the McCloud river this last September. We took our dog swimming, as soon as we got to the swimming hole we realized we didn't have a ball! Our lab lives to swim out and retrieve the ball. No problem, we'd pick one up in town later that afternoon. Stopped at the store, no balls. The clerk suggested McCloud Outdoor around the corner. We went over and they were closed, my wife was looking through the window and the owner came out and asked what he could help us with. When my wife said we needed a tennis ball for the dog, he said " I don't have any in the store, but I might have one in my car". He looked inside the car, then the trunk, then back in the car and came up with a tennis ball! He wouldn't take any money for it. He made our and our dogs weekend! We were on our way to Medicine Lake to paddle on our inflated canoe. Unfortunately with a strong wind that day it flew off the car and it got damaged and lost air. We stop by this great little store and was helped by Dominic the shop manager. Great guy, Super friendly and fantastic service. He offered us to fix our damaged canoe and gave us a great deal on renting a kayak to save our trip to the lake and fulfill our strong desire to experience paddling the lake in full moon. We had a great time and we want to say thank you for saving our day. If there is a 10 star we will definitely give it a 10 . We highly recommend this place. This shop is a hidden gem. There are some great finds in this shop with even better deals. You can rent kayaks during the spring and summer and rent snow shoes and sleds during the winters. We scheduled our Mt. Shasta climb on the 4th of July weekend, with the plan to fly out on the 3rd of July, and hike to Helen's lake the following morning. As most people are aware of, we were unable to bring up any of the gas canister for melting snow for food and water due to it being unsafe on an airplane. We wanted to get an early start to Helen's lake as my partner and I were both relatively slow hikers. We called around to various hardware stores and department stores to see if they would have any gas canister available to which they do not. I came across McCloud Outdoors & Gear Exchange and gave them a call. Charlie was the person I had spoke to and he assured me that i could arrive after business hours or before business hours to pick up the gas canisters for our trip. I was stunned by how generous and helpful Charlie was. Its almost unheard of for people to go out of their way to be helpful toward others in a difficult situation. We spent a nice few days in McCloud, and and while we there we happened onto this shop, and are very glad we did. We bought some outdoor gear from them but the best part was that the owners, Charlie and Cindy were friendly and helpful and put out some great options for things to do while we were in the area, and some of them were trips they could arrange (with no hard sell). They set us up one day with kayaks, a cooler and fishing gear and drove the whole set-up to Lake McCloud for us where we spent a great day fishing. The next day Charlie took us rock climbing - I've been out a few times before, but my wife had kids had not, and everyone loved it and felt totally safe (at least as safe as you can ever feel 40 feet up). It all cost much less than anything close to what you'd pay for similar trips anywhere in the SF area. If you are in the Mt. Shasta area and want to enjoy the outdoors, their store should be your first stop. read more

It was closed, but I called the number on the door and the owner sent someone over to open up and help me get ready for a hike up Mt. Shasta. They were helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Best mountaineering rental. If you are looking to climb Mount Shasta, and need to rent equipment they are the best. Call and make a reservation, and they will get you in and out without the congestion of the more popular rental places. They are open earlier and have a great cafe built into the store. The staff will take time and give you advice on how to make the summit. read more

I stopped in for a water ski flag and the kind gentleman behind the counter said he had sold all but maybe one. He looked high and low for what I needed and even checked his back room. When he realized he didn't have any left, he returned with an American Flag (even better) and sent me on my way free of charge!
