McCoy's TnAC 09/11/2025 Update: The gentleman who oversees the Sonora shop called a week+ after my first review. This I now consider an attempt to schmooz...he has ignored my latest communications for nearly a week. My opinion and level of trust of McCoys is dramatically lower than previously due to several things: 1. In doing a little work on my own, I discovered the AC/heater problem was created ENTIRELY by the mechanic himself from accidentally disconnecting vacuum lines or forgetting to reconnect them. 2. The mechanic's subtle implication that I was either lying or forgetful about the problem never existing until I brought the vehicle to their shop. 3. The ostensible concern the overseer had for my problem, with little and/or very slow response. I am over being mad about the several hours wasted tracking down a problem their shop created, then subtly blaming it on me. It's hard to imagine how the overseer, shop foreman, and certainly the mechanic could ever rebuild any significant level of confidence in their work... maybe, but highly, highly unlikely. So, at least for now, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING McCoys in Sonora. =*=*=*= 250829 McCoys review on Yelp I do not expect to use McCoys Tire and Auto Care again; I would recommend avoiding that shop entirely. I write this review no longer being angry and having given the shop foreman two days to respond-- nothing... Three reasons, major to minor: One: having fixed one problem, another mysteriously pops up. Think the mechanic did not believe me when I told him this latest problem had never been there before. My first suspicion was that there accidental damage not sabotage. Two: check engine light was pointed out to the mechanic; it remains on, whether simply not being erased/cleared or not being addressed at all. Three: several vehicles were repaired between my vehicle's first and final sessions, seemed I kept being pushed back. With the recommendation I received about McCoys, I was hoping for more satisfactory results. My recommendation is go somewhere else. read more

I am a return customer. I even sent my Dad when he was in town for his automotive need. They got his tire and rim and back on the road by the date he and Mom needed to leave. I'm back for my brakes. These guys hands down are the best in town. Patrick and his team deliver every time. I had a shimmy in my 5.0 that made freeway driving a nightmare over 60 mph. I mean come on a 5.0 doing under 60?...PLEASE. When I left today roaring up the 108 at over 60.... I wont say how fast in case a cop is reading this lol. I was just informed by another shop that three of the four directional Michelin tires that McCoy installed were mounted incorrectly. They had to swich the fronts left to right and remount one rear. McCoy won't be touching my cars again. read more

This is a warning. I had 4 new tires installed in 2024 (sorry it took so long for me to put a review in folks) when I checked out, I was surprised there was no mention of requiring an alignment check. In the past whenever I purchased tires this was checked. I was told by the man who checked me out that he couldn't do an alignment because I need new tire rods and therefore he wouldn't include the free tire rotation and flat repair unless I paid to have the tire rods replaced. Because he didn't look me in the eye when he told me this I doubted what he claimed. A short time later I went to another tire installer plus an auto repair business, and both told me there was nothing wrong with the tire rods. I'm disgusted that I was lied to. I am a woman in my late 60's - do you always try to cheat the elderly? You are a sick person. I mentioned my experience to another woman who has lived in Sonora for years and she said McCoy Tires already has a bad reputation. read more

I brought my truck to have a set of wheels swapped out. They stripped several lug studs and the manager told me it was probably because I had cheap parts, which they were not. He offered to reimburse the $160 that I unnecessarily paid to simply swap wheels ($50 job anywhere else). I noticed that I did not have my original lug nuts on my wheels. When I asked about them I was told "well they were stripped" (which was caused by them). After all is said and done, only 16 out of 32 lug nuts were left in my possession. So now i am left with having to purchase new lug nuts on top of them ruining $300 in parts, rendering them useless. Kyle is a cool guy though. read more

Please notice almost good review on this co was YEARS ago...since the new x owners took over ( Sun motors their real name) it's gone to he'll I had purchased my own alternator at oriellys thinking that was my problem, but Gary convinced me otherwise, and diagnosed it..2 bas connections was all. Took my truck home, next morning. Dead again. Now my 2nd tow fee to take it back...NOW it's a bad alternator...he said he tested it! I said we'll I thought that too..there's a brand new one on my seat, use that I said. Ohhh no Gary says, we can't use that , we give you a 2 year warranty, and against their policy. I said we'll I don't care about the warranty, mine is a,lifetime warranty and you don't give a warranty on your labor anyway. Gary, nope can't do it. So I go ahead w his $587 job. Save my old alternator I tell him I come back pay the bill. And next to my new one is my old one in the replacement alternator box SAME EXACT ALTERNATOR FROM OREILLYS THRY INSTALLED!!!! MY COST of mine was $125 ..thry double charged me $250, gave me a 2 year warranty instead of a,lifetime AND charged me almost 2 hours labor for a job that takes 30 minutes ( I've done it myself) 2 bolts to unattached the alternator, and 1 bolt to loosen the belt n done. I'll NEVER go back. AND when I called Sun motors the rude ass bitch hung up on me..and I was actually nice to her ohhhhj and BEST PART US I take my old alternator to oreillys ro get tested .. IT PASSED!!!!! SEE PICS even a radiator hose they replace leaked Jesus !!! DO NOT GO HERE!! DO NOT BE FOOLED by ancient reviews. Apparently there is a new owner who is nothing short of rude and sarcastic. All the experienced mechanics that once worked there have left leaving terrible service. I went for a simple oil change and left before it was completed due to how I was treated. I won't be going back. read more

The put used 3 year old tires on my RV and Gary the manager, passed them on as "New" tires and charged me a premium for them. They are simply thieves. Take your business somewhere else and DAMN SURE check the date on the tires you purchase from this shop. There is a Les Schwab down the street that is going to be WAY MORE professional and way cheaper than this con shop. read more

I want to start by saying that the new manager here, Gary, threatened to go leave my business a review if I left this review. "You have a business too right, I'll just go leave you one then." Now, this gentleman has never used my business ever in his life, yet I have multiple bad experiences here at his employer resulting in damage to my personal property and this shop does nothing about it. In fact, the manager will stand there and try to intimidate you the entire time when presenting said damage. I asked to see the "protective mats" they place down on the vehicle to "protect" from damage, Gary's sarcastic response through his snarky grin was "it's in the shop, I could get it but I don't want to." He also wouldn't review any of the video footage when prompted to do so, hmm I wonder why. Being in the auto industry myself I refer many clients to McCoy tire for service, however the guy that used to perform the work on my vehicles is no longer there and in addition today Gary said to me "we don't want your business or your clients, we are busy enough." Really? Because I was there from about 10:30 to almost noon and other than me walking through that front door not another soul came in, but sure. Minus 3 stars because *NONE* of the employees wear masks, even when in close contact with you (ex: paying, etc.). They won't let you pay over the phone, so you have no choice but to be exposed. I truly hope I did not get exposed to Covid, and if so, I'll know exactly where the exposure happened ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Other than that, great work was done on my car! Very friendly and straightforward. Paid too much money for the amount of hassel they cause! I brought my car here with an oil leak, they kept the car for longer than a week, and when it was ready it was still leaking! 1600$ and bullshit now its apparently an O RING that theyll replace for free! My car with 146,000 miles for some period of time was starting to make increased noise from the front of the engine as if metal had separated from the engine and then like a jet engine noise and vibrations were coming from the rear window. Any long distance driving would have required ear plugs and a visit to the nearest massage therapist. I'm not a auto type guy who has DNA in my blood. A visit to McCoy was a thought, as I knew they did tires and balance. A quick assessment by friendly staff determined, I needed new 3 motor mounts. Great service, they drove me home and picked me up from my home in downtown Sonora. On my return home with a "Normal" sounding car, I knew I can take this weeks road trip to the Bay Area without feeling like I was hit by a local logging truck. Great Service, McCoy Tire. read more

Rick at McCoy Is my hero this week. My daughter's car has been a lemon ever since we purchased it used from a so-called reputable dealer. It took a few years to figure out we were given a lemon. Several mechanics in Tracy and Mountain House looked at it - but, no one could figure out what the problems stemmed from - we even had the engine rebuilt per one mechanic's suggestion. The troubles kept coming - it burned through oil and the battery kept dying. Hundreds of dollars and batteries later (and luckily we moved to Sonora over last summer)- Rick and his guys at McCoy figured out it was an alternator issue and fixed it, along with a mish-mash of other small issues for a reasonable price - for the first time since we bought it, my daughter's car is running like new! They wedged us into the evening work queue, diagnosed the problem and got us rolling again within a couple of hours for very reasonable cost. After multiple complaints to Lexus service, where I previously took my 2008 Lexus, I finally got fed up with poor service and safety concerns. One visit to McCoy Tire and my car is riding/driving/performing better than it has in 60,000 miles. Now with 120,000 + I feel like my car could go another 50-60,000 miles. Several poor experiences here with exhaust work- they failed to use stock mounts, resulting in HUGE cabin droning, easily heard on test drive, insisted on charging again to fix their first work, and the new pipes/ muffler leaked very soon afterward. Lacking in integrity and a customer service focus. Will not use again- too bad too, as their location is convenient to downtown. read more

My RV was sputtering and about to die right next to McCoy Tire so I pulled in and had them take a look. They were very nice and then called the next day and said there was nothing wrong. They said they took it for three test drives. I got no more than 100 yards after leaving McCoy Tire when it died right on Stockton Road. I had it towed to McCoy Tire where they charged me over $600 for a new carbueretor. This time it did make it the one mile to my home but sounded terrible. They took another look at it and guess what, it died on Stockton Road again. I'll never go back. read more

Woke up the first morning camping at New Melones to find our tire flat. Without a tire iron we had to call roadside. Our roadside savior revered us here saying they were the best and I completely agree. Neither us nor our helper could find the cause of our flat, they found it within 2 minutes and were able to fix the flat for under $20. They even offered to empty our half way loaded car (we had the cooler and our hiking gear with us) and load our spare back in. We didn't take them up on the offer, but it certainly showed their hospitality. We were there on a Friday around noon and it wasn't busy. They had us on our way within 20 minutes. We are glad they were there when we needed them and would recommend for anyone to go here. read more

I own 5 cars and have purchased all tires for many years from Sonora McCoys. Immediately after purchasing tires for my Miata, one tire quickly lost air. Each time I went in to have them rotated I asked them to check the tire (dunk in water to check for leaks), after having it dunked 3 times they admitted the tire did in fact have a leak. I had told them about the leak since the tires were new and expected them to make the necessary repairs, at no cost. They refused to patch or install a tube, saying "how do we know you are being honest." I told them how long I had been a customer, and they were loosing my business and good will. They relented and told me they would order a tube and install it at no cost to me, and would call me the next day. After waiting numerous days I called them. They had the tube and I went right down to have it installed. After instillation, they charged me for the tube! I spoke with the manager (Kelly). He gave me a blank stare, shrugged his shoulders and said "sorry," with no offer to take corrective action. I left feeling belittled, insulted and deceived! No a good business model! read more

my father is 82 years old and he took his 2003 chevy pickup in for a miss and rough idle they proceeded to change out the so called $500 fuel pump It still missed so they then went in and replaced the $500 spider injector.SOLVED,,But the engine did not stall when hard acceleration was applied which proves the fuel pump was not defective which they would have discovered had they test drove the vehicle..ALSO chevy had issued service bulletins regarding that vehicle and the problems and remedies which I found on the internet in about an hour So why did mccoys have the vehicle for 5 days and charge the old guy $2200 for EXPLORATORY SURGERY Needless to say....%$#@*&% MCCOY'S read more

As a woman, sometimes a car repairs can be an intimidating experience, but not at McCoy Tire! Everyone there was friendly and courteous, and didn't seem to mind answering all of my questions no matter how seemingly trivial/silly/weird. :) In addition, the owner Eric was kind enough to go out of his way to do me a much appreciated favor. Besides all of that, their prices are more than fair. I had a brake job, alignment and oil change done for less than a previous quote from another company for just a brake job. Being new to the area I really had no clue where to go, but I now have a place to go for all my future repair needs and oil changes. On vacation in the Sierra Mountains and had brake problems. McCoy Tire Pros were able to fit me into their busy Friday schedule and get me back to my family with a safe vehicle to tow our trailer. The customer service was outstanding....very friendly and knowledgeable. Eric and Luke working the office were friendly and had me feeling as if I was a local/regular patron. A number of years ago we had our car serviced at McCoy Tire and Auto Service in Sonora, they broke a lock on the door and said it wasn't them that did it, but there was not a problem before that. They had a bad attitude towards us. We have a number of vehicles and a motor home, we buy a number of tires elsewhere, but never at McCoy Tires. read more

We are done with this local business. My husband took his truck in for an alignment and was told the ball joint needed replaced. He was told it would cost $650 "out the door" and take about 2 hours, so he made the appointment for the FOLLOWING week first thing in the morning. Appointment time came, he dropped the truck off , and hour later he gets back the truck is up on the lift, torn apart still ,since it hasn't been a couple of hours yet, no big deal until the office person tell him he had made a mistake, it's going to be an extra TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS with the "OOPS attitude. Would had told us this last week or when the truck showed up, we could have called around for prices but NO he waited til the truck was torn apart. Funny how that happen. And the couple of hours turned into over FIVE hours. My husband was told the "most qualified" person was on it. More the most slowest person was on it and he was working on another truck at the same time which means he was going back and forth doing a little at a time on each vehicle. We have to wonder if the extra money was labor due to this slow person lolly gagging around. Basically we feel McCoys scammed us. Never again will we walk into that place again. read more

I found a nail in my tire and decided to take it in to have it removed and patched. I found a coupon on line for free rotation and brake check, so I brought that along as well. I was met by Allen/Allan who was very courteous and a great service representative. They made time for me and quickly got to work on my car, the hole patch was $15. They notified me that the front tires should be replaced, and worked up a competitive estimate which I accepted. The tires were changed quickly and the nail hole patched. Upon leaving, my car began to wobble seriously. I took it back and Allan took it for a quick drive to experience the problem. After poking around in the shop they discovered that my inner tie rod ends were shot. They took the time and effort to show me exactly what was wrong and how they would fix it. He then gave me an estimate to fix the problem and I called around town for a comparison. The McCoy price handily beat the competition and I accepted and left my car there for the day. They had it fixed before 3pm and I was unable to get there to provide payment before they closed, but they allowed me to pick up the car anyway. Upon arrival at 6:30pm to pick up the car, I checked the door and the owner Eric was inside. He courteously dropped what he was doing to allow me to pay for the work and save me some time. When I drove home, the car drove better than I'd ever experienced. Will definitely recommend McCoy to anyone needing car or tire work. read more
