WARNING! Do not take your car to this place. A few weeks ago I called about my son's car needing to be towed in and they said they could get to it and possibly have it out by the end of the day. Such a big lie!!! To start with, they didn't even take a look at the car that day. We called later in the day and they never returned our call. The next day they told us it needed more items then the original estimate, which is not unusual, but the job still should have only taken a few hours. Once again, they did not call back at the end of the day and they never either picked up our calls or returned our VM. To make matters worse, we found out their hourly labor charge is much, much higher than other local auto repair places. I cannot say for sure, but I have a feeling we were gouged since the car was towed in and there was little we could do. I have already started a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair. read more

CF, you should expect to be charged for a smog, pass or not, unless the business advertises PASS OR DONT PAY. I've always received excellent service and so have the vast majority of customers. The receptionists are amazing! Nothing rude about them. The mechanics in the shop? Top notch. Great service all around. I wish they were closer so I wouldn't have to drive far. Everyone was so great and knows what they're doing. My husband hasn't had a bad experience either. Especially with the receptionists. Everyone is knowledgeable and has great people skills. This is the worse auto repair shop I've ever dealt with. They don't know how to communicate with customers, always hidden fees when it time to pick up vehicle. I paid $2,200 for repairs after my car sat for 3weeks untouched. They told me that it's still missing at 65mph. And can't understand why!!! But still charged me $2,200 and never mentioned a warranty. Never bring your car to riches auto repair! They failed us epically. They sent us home with a vehicle with repairs totaling over $3700 and we couldn't even drive it home we brought it back for them to repair several times and it was never repaired or ran well again. We attempted to go on our family vacation and it blew up on the freeway the total cost of us getting this repair was the entire loss of our vehicle our family vacation and a $4000 repair cost. I took my truck in for a smog test and was charged even though the truck did not pass. There were two other customers who came in after me and they were also charged for a non-passing smog. My truck passed a smog check exactly one year ago and nothing has been changed on the engine. The technician told me to drive the truck at least 50 miles and come back for a re-check, which he would charge me for again. Do not take your vehicle here for a smog, they are a rip off! read more

Brought my truck to Rich's to diagnose an oil consumption issue that developed after my engine rebuild. First off, the receptionist was extremely rude! I made an appointment almost two weeks out, however, when I called the morning of my appointment, she was unwilling to determine whether or not it could be seen the day I had been scheduled. When I dropped off my truck I only had two questions, can the truck be seen today and may I speak with a mechanic who will be working on it. She denied me on both counts. When I pressed to speak with a mechanic she entered the garage and yelled "This guy is demanding to speak with a mechanic, does anyone want to deal with him." Extremely rude! My girlfriend picked me up from the mechanics and also witnessed this, she couldn't believe how rude the receptionist was. We were both appalled. As for the mechanic work, they effectivly did nothing, yet made me wait almost two weeks and charged me for it. When I finally spoke with a mechanic I let them know the truck had been burning a quart of oil every 150-200 miles (A huge amount). I also informed them I had replaced the PCV valve during the rebuild and then again after +/- 500 miles. When I was contacted with a diagnosis they told me it was a faulty PCV valve causing the issue. Even after repeating the fact this was the 3rd new PCV valve this truck has seen in the past 700 miles they refused to perform any further test. When asked they informed me they had not preformed ANY tests on this engine (such as a compression or leak down test) to determine other possibilities of the oil consumption. Asking if they had ever seen 3 PCV valves fail in 700 miles they said no, yet had nothing further to add. They then charged me $165 to replace a $10 part I had already replaced myself only weeks prior. When asked if there was anything that might cause these valves to be clogging or what I might do next if this one fails, they told me to bring it back to perform a valve job. I had already let them know I had just preformed a valve job and when I repeated this they harshly criticized my decision, when I was only following the last mechanics instructions. Conclusion: The workers at this shop are do not care about their customers. They charge you even when the work yields no results and they are extremely rude; especially the receptionist! I will never take my business here again and I suggest you look elsewhere too. read more

I had a blown head gasket and Billy ordered the new motor, and gave me an estimate. We took the car in on Friday afternoon and they had it ready by Thursday morning. Needed a smog test before I could register my car. But I didn't think of that until a few hours before my DMV appointment. I called Rich's a few minutes after opening. Rich's Auto repair is one of the few non-dealer shops in the foothills that will work on a hybrid (other than for routine oil changes, etc..) My escape hybrid needed a power transfer unit that governs all-wheel drive. Ford wanted thousands of dollars for the repair. Rich's crew diagnosed the problem, researched the options and found a used one with a warranty, double-checked serial/part numbers, called Ford to make sure, and did the job at a fourth of the price. Very helpful. I was new in town, went to YELP to see what people were saying. Picked this shop to get my gifted old truck smogged. Gene and Rich went to work to PASS my truck, were honest with me, did not hustle my work. Actually, they hinted that maybe I should buy/get a different truck rather than try to get my Dodge to pass. BUT...I LOVE this '92 Dodge Dakota pickup! And a friend was trying to GIVE it to me. It failed smog ($62), talked to the owner, Rich, and took it back for a one hr diagnostic ($120)...they found it had a major FAILED/gob of goo CAT converter, I gave the go ahead. They did a great fix at a fair price and IT PASSED; they even checked the undercarriage a couple weeks later at no charge, as I was nervous I'd gone over a bump and loosened things. Not to worry. Very professional small shop, where you can talk to the owner, Rich; or his daughter; or Gene, the service writer/tech. My first auto shop I've used in Sonora. I recently bought a used Subaru. The price was decent but I knew it needed some work, the biggest one being the transmission. I called Rich's and they were able to get me in soon. I am a retired widow and I try to be aware of not being taken advantage of, so I was appreciative of what these guys (Rich, Jim, Luk) did for me. This included driving me home, picking me up, talking to me kindly and respectfully, and explaining to me clearly what they needed to do while giving me options that were less expensive. When the license plates came in, Rich had told me to bring the car in and he'd put them on for me, which he did. These things may not seem like a lot to some, but as a widow on my own, I've learned what to look for, questions to ask so as not to be taken advantage of. I was in Sonora on a road trip vacation when my minivan stopped working the day I needed to drive back home. I called several mechanics but could not find one that would look at the car for days. Rich's listened to the story of what was wrong, gave some suggestions, and promised to try to get it back to me the same day. They called my mechanic back home to get records and contact info for the car's warranty. I was bracing myself for a huge expense and knew full well I had to pay whatever it took to get on the road. My mechanic at home told me to expect a couple grand. The good folks at Rich's did not take advantage of my circumstances, though. Instead, they found a simple part that was causing the problem and charged me only a few dollars more than the minimum $125 diagnostic I agreed to upfront. I couldn't be happier with how my smog test was handled for our older RV. I made an appointment for 8:30 today. They were ready for the RV and commenced testing immediately. An hour later, I got the call that it passed and was ready for pickup! This was the first time we ever got a vehicle smog-checked in California. I have to admit I was nervous that they would find something wrong and then recommend repairs - but these folks are friendly and honest, and took the time to explain all the possible ways to handle a failed smog check. Brought in an old beater farm truck to get smogged. I'm always hesitant to have a smog place also do the repairs needed to pass smog, but in this case they were extremely professional, friendly, thorough, and completely honest when it failed the first go. You wonder when a place charges a $100 diagnostic fee, but Rich's gives you every bit of that value and more. They replaced a few minor parts and now the truck runs better than ever. There was no re-test fee since they did the repairs. They were under their estimate and exactly on time having the work completed. I really couldn't be happier. read more

What a rip off! They told me I needed a complete re-do of my air conditioning system when all I needed was a new air filter. Questioning their claim, I asked to sit in my car and have a demonstration of how the a/c worked. It was blowing ice cold air hard enough for my hair to fly back from my face. Give me a break! (this place is a $%#%@# joke) they are good at giving you repairs you don't need and switching parts from other cars to who ever or theirs own for that matter a friend took her car to them for a clutch master cylinder (i am a mechanic i looked at the car before it went in i even drove it (power shifted) to my house so i could put it on a lift, due to family emergency i didn't have time tofix it so she took it to rich the owner and he looked at it and had a different idea for this poor honda i guess cause it was a girl that went he thought he would take advantage two weeks later and 1400 (he says the clutch was bad but how could i/t i just drove it and it was fine so how could a clutch go bad while on a tow truck to the repair shop) ____it can't------- also she had on a old muffler that was not the one tht was on it when it went in. we have the picture proof he will be seeing him in court so if your a woman or someone who dont know anything about what repairs are being preformed on your car dont go to this clown he will take you money with a smile read more
