Quiet garden with a lot of benches and beautiful plants. Went on a Saturday during Columbus Day weekend so had the whole grounds to myself for about 45 minutes. Many plants had labels and there were a large open spaces and short trails into more wooded areas. Nice place to wander for an hour. I'm looking forward to coming back in Spring since there are a lot of azaleas and rhododendrons.

A really lovely hidden gem in Bethesda. Especially worth a visit when daffodils and azaleas are blooming.

Beautiful garden! I had my wedding photos taken here in July. I wish there were more flowers planted in July but overall, it's great.

While arguably not the DC area's best Azalea display, McCrillis holds its own, and is without peer, in Rhododendrons in the DC area.

According to their information, the museum is continuously acquiring different works if art from this time period. There were also some pretty cool grave markers dating back to the 11th century. The couple most closely associated with this Georgetown estate, Mildred and Robert Bliss, clearly loved and thought deeply about this parcel of land when they owned it (1920/30's). Their efforts to preserve and share the space with the public are to be commended. It must have been quite something in its heyday. There's a lot of research that's supported here, as well as other activities. The website explains all that. It's a low-key sightseeing spot; quiet, contemplative.

I contacted Nature's Friends to sort out my issues and Cliff was over at my house in no time. He talked through any prior water retention issues I had, and came up with a plan to future proof our house from any flooding that could happen with big storms. The crew were back out within a few days and executed the plan as Cliff specified. The laborers placed one of the pop-ups a little too close to the house, and without any intervention, the day-of-supervisor spoke with me to let me know they would extend it according to plan, and corrected everything. They also replaced my sump pump, which was not the easiest thing due to a seized grate closure (see pics), and at a fraction of the price quoted by plumbers. I was really impressed with how quick everything was completed, and for a job like this (digging long trenches to run PVC), my yard looks nearly immaculate. They gave me instructions to heal the grass patches so my lawn would look as it did before in no time. After the work was done, Cliff reached out to make sure all was working well when it rained. I highly recommend reaching out to Nature's Friend for any of your needs -- you can tell they really care about their customers, and I will be reaching out to them for any future landscaping needs.

That said, we loved seeing the mansion decorated for Christmas. Our docent was pretty good (the one we had in spring was better). She led us on a "highlights" tour which you book in advance (we got lucky and got 2 open slots after lunch; get tickets in Visitors Ctr). Marjorie Merriweather Post was an absolute force; one of the first women business magnates (General Foods). Her father founded Post cereals. MMP was a prolific collector. Her 3rd husband was US ambassador to Russia - and the things this magnificent socialite/businesswoman/tour-de-force collected - chalices, crowns, iconic art, etc -- saved from destruction by the burgeoning Soviet empire --- staggeringly beautiful. The Faberge collection - eggs, small music boxes, clocks - just wow. The dining room, her bedroom, the theater - so beautiful. The porcelain collection - one with Catherine the Great's pattern - beautiful. When married to EF Hutton - the 2 built Mar a Largo (which she'd probably be horrified to learn of its current owner & his staggeringly bad penchant for interior design ). The history you learn from this estate is simply awe-inspiring. We had a wonderful time. Can't wait to return!

If you can't find it here, then it probably should not be in your garden. From the painted pots to the abundance of healthy and beautiful plants, this nursery is awesome. The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to help with questions or guidance. As a photographer with a professional camera (Sony A7RV), it's refreshing to visit a photography-friendly nursery. The staff was overjoyed when I asked if photography was okay. The carts are double-tier and plentiful. When visiting with my mom and wife, we used the top tier for her plants and the bottom tier for ours, which made checkout really easy. The upper tier is also great for taller plants, while the bottom works well for heavier items like soil or planters. I was also made aware that you can buy a planter and flowers of your choice and the staff will pot them for you as well! The American Plant Food Company is surprisingly spacious. They have a large outdoor greenhouse with covered registers, fruit and witch hazel trees, and interesting shrubs. There was even a star-shaped shrub (they shaped a topiary with three vertical stars-super cool!). After parking, it's hard to decide whether to walk around or go inside first. But you'll definitely want to venture into the building before you leave. They have all sorts of knickknacks, watering cans, and seeds here. I know winter is almost over now, but they do have a fairly good selection of metal shovels and spades, which work well both for gardening and the weird snowy/icy weather we get here in the DMV. Be sure to head all the way back for the greenhouse with bamboo, venus flytraps, lemon and lime trees, gardenias, and all sorts of indoor plants. While inside I asked a staff member if I should repot or fertilize an infant (3-4 year old) coffee tree that's about 4.5 ft tall. The tree has been revived over the last two years and produced 1 fruit and 2-3 flowers. I wanted to know how to improve its growth. The staff member handed me Osmocote fertilizer pellets and advised half a capful once a month to help the tree. I'm relieved to finally get an answer, as most nurseries near me had no knowledge. Oh! I also found out from my mom that they offer landscaping and backyard design services. You can call them to come out to your house, advise on your budget and what you want to do, and they'll help you plan it! I'm definitely going to be calling them soon! I highly recommend the American Plant Food Company in Bethesda and will 1000% be back to do all my future garden shopping here!
