I bought and paid for 14 replacement windows from McDaniel Window and Door Company at the beginning of May 2025. I have received NO windows at this time March 2026. Do not trust this company with your money! Their conduct has been disgraceful. On October 29, 2024, we hired McDaniel Window and Door (300 E Tennessee St, Florence, AL) in good faith and paid $18,157.03 upfront by personal check for windows and doors. The check was cashed the next day. Nearly a year later, we have received nothing -- no product, no refund, and no accountability. Instead, we were met with vague, contradictory responses clearly meant to buy time, followed by complete silence. We filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau on July 25, 2025. The full case is posted publicly and remains unresolved. Through the BBB, McDaniel offered to send a cashier's check to refund our money -- a promise that was never fulfilled. When the BBB followed up on our behalf, the company did not respond and has remained silent since. We are now filing reports with the Alabama Attorney General, reporting to state builder licensing authorities, and filing a police report for potential fraud. Our experience has been that this company's behavior is deceptive, unethical, and indicative of a scam. It shows a complete disregard for customers who trusted them with thousands of dollars. Wish I could give 0 stars. This business is poorly operated and very unorganized. I ordered 5 windows in August and still haven't received anything in mid December. Oh and don't worry about getting updates on your order, the guy whose "job" it is to give updates on anything is never in office to give you one. And if they say they're going to leave your name and number for him to call you back...he won't. we dealt with McDaniel for many years and received excellent quality and service. When I had to have all my windows replaced, I called them. The man doing the estimate was great and I felt as confident as ever signing a "contract " with McDaniel. Then the trouble started. I can't state for certain that the installers were on something as I am not familiar with such things, but they were jovial and happy every time they came. Being naive, I thought they were just satisfied to have a good job with a good company. After many hard tries getting many contacts to fix problems they caused, I contacted Wells Fargo who they use to finance even though I was paying cash!!!!!, they came out, put ugly wide trim to cover the gaps between win and siding and left. I can't leav my windows open because the screens don't fit and tend to fall out. I am so sorry for the wonderful family who built up such a good reputation for so many years then is having it destroyed. And for those, like me, who trust the relationship they had and have no one to look out for their interest. I am widowed and have an adult handicapped son. I have been blessed to have been a homemaker and mother, but it has led to people being able to take advantage. McDaniel Window and Door has been locally owned and operated in the Shoals area for over 47 years. Under the operation of Mike McDaniel, the company had a well-known reputation for good quality product, installation, and customer care service. When I chose McDaniel for my recent installation, this is the man and the company that I thought I would be doing business with. I was wrong. Mr. McDaniel is no longer involved in the day-to-day operation. Now it is being run by his stepson Woodard F. Watkins. Mr. Watkins is the co-owner, Vice President, and Salesperson of McDaniel Window and Door. He "personally" handles all aspects of your order from start to finish including window measurements, estimated quotes, order placement, shipping, scheduling, and warranty issues. I wish that I had known this beforehand and had done my research, not only into McDaniel Window and Door but of Woodard F. Watkins as well (complaints, reviews, ect). Because if I had known then what I know now, I would never have entrusted my project to this man or to this company. My personal experience with Mr. Watkins and McDaniel Window and Door was one of delays, poor communication, conflicting information, poor customer service, and a poor-quality window installation. After what I experienced and the way that I was treated by Mr. Watkins, I would never recommend doing business with McDaniel Window and Door to anyone. I trusted that McDaniel Window and Door would do a quality install and treat my home with respect and care. A decision I deeply regret. I put my faith in the wrong company and the wrong man. On September 8, 2023, I placed an order with Mr. Watkins for installation of 10 replacement windows at a cost of $8275.00. The lead time for the windows Mr. Watkins quoted me was 3 weeks. Thirteen weeks later, on December 12, 2023, McDaniel Window and Door installed eight of the ten replacement windows. Two windows were missing from the order along with 3 window screens. On December 14th and 16th, I contacted Mr. Watkins to address problems with the installation and that I was not happy with the final product, the quality, or the service that I received: 1. The installers left debris in my yard such as insulation, glass shards, wood, and plastic. They failed to use drop cloths and protective footwear as I was told that they would when working inside the home. As a result, there was damage to my hardwood flooring (chips, scratches, black sticky residue stains). 2. All eight window frames are bowed or curved at the base of the frame. I feel this is a result of strain from improper fit, poor installation, and incorrect measurements. 3. Dented Damaged areas on some of the frames 4. Water Leakage at the base of semicircular transom window I have continued to reach out to Mr. Watkins to request that the window frames be repaired, replaced, or refund in full. It has been over two months since my installation, and the remaining two windows still have not been installed nor have the problems with the window frames been repaired or replaced. I feel this is a breach of contract and failure to honor the warranty. I have asked for a full refund at this point, which I have not received and there has been no further response from Mr. Watkins on the matter read more

I very strongly warn anyone against using this business. They are unethical and dishonest. I was given a quote and signed a contract for work to be done on my home. Once the work was done and the balance paid in full, I was the told that they did additional work on the windows which costs over $2,000. I was never told about the additional items nor costs. I am now being a harassed about the additional costs that I never agreed to nor were aware of. A manager has never called me about this...yet I have recently received a letter from a lawyer about the charges. This company is shady! read more
