Pound for pound, this has to be the worst McDonald's in the country. That isn't hyperbole - I feel a perverted sense of pride knowing I was one of the few to make it through the ordering process to say I've been served here. There's ZERO reason for it to be this bad. It is in one of the premiere shopping areas in Pittsburgh, with plenty of opportunity for foot/drive thru traffic. It has ONE drive thru lane, unlike almost every refurbished McDonald's that operates with two or more. It sits minutes from Pittsburgh, so you can't argue they have a limited pool of candidates to hire. It took me twenty minutes to get from the window where I ordered to the windows where you get your food. That's about four cars through in that time. It wasn't like one car held everything up - there were consistent waits for each car. And it's no wonder - while I was there, there were three employees outside of the building. One aimlessly sweeping trash from the grass, another half heartedly cleaning windows, and a third taking a vigorous smoke break. Those were the three hardest workers from my observations. So if you are a masochist, I'd encourage you to check out this spot. For anyone else looking for food or drinks, try literally any other place in the country. read more

The absolute worst Mcdonald's in the area. Lunchtime on a Sunday, drive thru is wrapped around the building, go inside & there is about 15 people inside. Not getting good feelings but my kids are starving. It takes 35 minutes to get the food. Employees are arguing with each other, one comes out and argues with me as if a 35 wait is normal. I go to this location often because I work in the Waterfront. Multiple times I've ordered food after work around 9:30 or 10. It says they close till 11. They've been closed atleast half a dozen times before that. Also, the employees NEVER greet me at the drive thru, they just shove my drink at me (without a straw, mind you.) Every other McDonald's gives you a straw when they hand you your drink so you can have a sip while you wait for your food). I've also tried to go for breakfast on Sunday before work. I Purposely didn't eat breakfast at home so I can enjoy a steak bagel, and they were closed at 9 on a Sunday, weird to be closed at a notoriously busy time for McDonald's. The drive through line needed maybe three more cars and it would've been a circle. The employees aren't unpleasant, they just move very slowly. The food is standard. The restaurant itself was pretty clean. The lady in front of me was missing a burger and had to ask multiple times for it. Stuff happens and nobody's perfect but it really is a test of patience to order from here. Hadn't been swept in a while as there were French Fries all over the floor. Of all the tables in the place, I found only one that was cleared. It was a f**king mess all over. Oh, at two of the tables next to me, there was a family of 5 eating a full meal from Chick Fil A which is next door. Still can't figure that out. The staff was another thing altogether. Lots of teenagers, which is the usual for a fast food place. The difference here was that they were out of control. Yelling, joking, swearing like they were at someone's party, not at a place where they work. And nobody seemed to be in charge of them. What. The. HELL? This, if I were asked how much I loathe McDonald's in whole and had to describe it, would be the visual aspect to my words. This McDonald's has not been touched since 1999. That's twenty years of it going downhill into disrepair. I know what you are probably thinking, "If you loathe McDonald's so much, why did you stop?" Simple explanation: for fast food in the Waterfront, there's not much of a choice. We decided to go inside and bypass the drive thru as it looked backed up. That should have been a clue for us to steer clear of the inside. It's kind of hard to describe walking in here. It's like walking into a time capsule, but not a fun one. It's like walking into your relatives home that you haven't seen in years, and nothing new has been added but add to that nothing has been fixed. It's dank in here, or maybe the lighting made it feel that way. A quick glance around and you won't notice the imperfections, but once you get used to your surroundings, YIKES! Most notable is the late 90's decor, complete with hardwood display cases that hold (for some weird reason) mostly Disney toys from the Toy Story movies. They did have some older McDonald's gear and mascot stuff in the one, like the soda cup puppet, but nothing interesting. Looking around the rest of the dining area you can just see neglect. It's as if this has become a hangout spot for bad seeds. Lots of seats have tears in them. Paint must have peeled away or that wall had been vandalized and a coat of unmatched paint is small amounts dot the area as well. If you can get a clean table in here, points to you. I did not see a single employee leave the kitchen area to clean...I did see several leave to have their break and eat. The bathrooms are disgusting. I mean, it's a bathroom, but WOW. I can get by with using a facility without having to touch much, but what blew me away in here was the smell. It's not the smell of a bathroom in here. In fact I am convinced that the air they are sending in here comes directly from the grill in the kitchen. I looked up and there was no cover on the air vent and a strong smell of burgers permeated the bathroom. Let's talk food now. Simplest way to put it, don't eat here. Fries were mediocre at best, minimal salt, just bad. I had the Big Mac, or maybe the ghost of Big Mac. I swear I had half a patty for the one layer, everything was shifted on the sandwich to one side (that is what was actually on the sandwich). The bun...was...STALE. Oh, yeah, you want condiments, you obviously can't be trusted to get your own here as there are none out for you to grab. Ketchup, salt, sugar, ask at the counter. You're lucky you can get your own drink, well most of them, if you wanted tea, that's behind the counter. As for the employees, it was weird. No more than three of them worked at a time, and it was usually the same three that worked. The rest of them would be leaned over something with their phones out. I used the McDonald's app to pickup. The manager was so nice and polite in conversation while I waited. When I got my food, I dropped my fries on the ground, while putting the bag in my book bag. He insisted on giving me new fries, even though I told him not to worry about it (I felt really guilty about making a mess). The store was exceptionally clean, I'd straight up say pristine. I'm visiting my daughter and this is the second time I've gone to this establishment. The first was an inside experience that was worse than this one which is why I chose the drive-thru on this occasion. I'm not sure I've ever felt as "unwanted" by staff as I did at this McDonald's.
