Burgatory is a local burger chain with several locations in the Pittsburgh area. The Homestead location is perfectly situated in a beautiful shopping area with plenty of shops, eateries, and across from a gigantic AMC movie theater. With the variety of stores and plenty of free parking, it's become one of my favorite areas to go out when visiting Pittsburgh. Burgatory has a full bar and some daily specials, which can add some value depending on which day of the week you visit. We started off with the truffled gorgonzola fries (3.25/5). While the fries were decent, the gorgonzola cheese was a bit too strong for our tastes, so would likely ask for them without the gorgonzola next time. I got their smashburger (3.75/5), which was filling and of decent quality, but the patties themselves weren't the most flavorful. The house chips (2.5/5) that came with the meals were quite underwhelming, and it stinks that they don't have an option to sub them out for regular fries or onion rings. There's definitely a missed opportunity to not even offer an alternative option for a small upcharge, as we were told no substitutions were allowed. Service (4.5/5) was attentive and friendly throughout the meal, and Shane checked in on us several times to ask if we needed anything else. I would rate the food an overall 3.5/5, and since Yelp doesn't allow 1/2 stars, don't mind rounding up in support of a small local chain and thanks to the great service. I would return to try out some of their other menu items and would recommend Burgatory to others looking to try out a local option for burgers in the Pittsburgh area. Hopefully, they will recognize the missed opportunity to allow customers to sub out their house chips for alternative sides in the future. read more

Plan ahead if you want to eat here on a Friday night. It gets very busy. This place wasn't that bad. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating, especially when we wanted the impossible burger, even though it wasn't on the menu (PS it's coming back on the menu next month). The impossible burger wasn't bad, but it felt a little lack luster. The chips that came with the burger were very good though. But it took such a long time for our burgers to arrive. Not sure if I'd come back, but maybe I'd try the other veggie burger next time. Not a bad place for the waterfront. read more

Came back here recently with my wife, two young kids, and one other family (apparently 6 years after I first reviewed the place!). We had a nice experience. Lots of kid-friendly features. Seamless to get an early 5:30 reservation for a party of eight with no wait when we arrived. Plenty of overflow parking in the movie theater lot. The place was definitely crowded on a Friday evening, but our service was fast enough and they provided lots of coloring items for the kids. The kids menu is also good; my daughter enjoyed mac and cheese, which came with a large number of chips. Her friend got two mini burgers, which was actually a very big portion. Adults enjoyed their food too. My wife got the Triple B bison/bacon burger, which was hefty. I got an impossible burger (very good!) with a side salad. Just like my last review, I was pleasantly surprised at how substantial the salad was. Consistency is a plus I guess. read more

We received a plate full of romaine lettuce, with a wafter think, overcooked, shoe leather piece of steak on top. Steak was smothered in garlic. A friend and I went here late night to get some dinner and we were happy to see they were open. My friend ordered the burger of the month and the jalapeño cornbread while I got the Morty's steakhouse burger. The food was good as we both devoured our meals. The server was very friendly and patient with us as we made up our minds. Luckily it was late in the evening on a weekday so it was slow, thus we got our food pretty fast. Burgatory is one of the best places to eat at The Waterfront. Their burgers are legendary and are served with crispy house made potato chips. The menu has everything a vegan could ask for, right down to vegan milkshakes. On my last trip I had the massive onion rings and a strawberry vegan shake. Both were super tasty! Folks who don't love whipped cream may want to ask them for a shake without whipped cream because they put a lot on every shake. I always have to stop at Burgatory when I'm in town. They literally have the best burger I've ever had, and I love that you're able to customize everything to your taste. The milkshakes are also incredible, and the fact that you can add alcohol makes them even better. While the flame decor is ionic, this is definitely a more casual place, and I wouldn't go there for an intimate dinner, as it does tend to be a little more noisy. read more

Went last night after a movie. Only downside is it's tiny inside and you'll likely have to wait for a table. The bathrooms aren't great, ran if soap. Besides that (I did manage to squeeze some out the bottle bc not washing your hands is grossssss), it was a great experience!! Our server was awesome. I was able to get a dairy-free boozy milkshake which made my night!! Onions rings were huge w great sauces. Burgers were juicy and delicious. Stopped in here on a Friday evening to check out a new burger place for us while we were in town visiting our son in college. Place was busy and we had about a 15-20 minute way before we were seated. Lots of burger choices on the menu and I just went with the double smash burger, which was really good. I like my fries on the thinner side and crispy. These weren't too bad--I would say in between a McDonalds and Red Robin. My son got one of their milkshakes, which he said was very thick. He was definitely struggling to drink it through a straw. My siblings and our families made a reservation for 13 here for New Years Eve. We had 7 kids with us. The restaurant was awesome to be able to take us. It did take a good amount of time to get our food. It's expected to take longer than normal with that big of a party but it was too long. Also, we never were asked for drink refills. With that being said, the food was awesome ! All the kids loved their choices. I ordered the impossible burger and it was perfect. No complaints at all on the food. The food was good. The restaurant was clean. The staff were very respectful. The only downside is that service is very slow. It took about 10 minutes for the waitress to come up and take our drink order, she did apologize and said that she didn't realize that they had seated us in the corner. It took about 50 minutes from being seated for our food to come. And when we were done, we had to actively stand up and walk around to find our waitress to try to get our bill. The waitress was very nice and respectful, it was just very slow service. I would go back if I'm in that area, just not if I was pressed for time. I want to add that they have great vegetarian and gluten-free options. We are not gluten-free, but I have never seen so many options for gluten-free. Every time when I go to new area, I want to explore the area where I stay. Burg story came as the first high rating restaurant so my husband and I wanted to try it. Despite the yucky weather, the restaurant was already packed. The service was fantastic, first of all. And food was more than what we expected. No greasy, fresh, and flavorful! We tried create our own. There were a lot of ingredients that were free of charge. They were very generous on the choice of selection. They had non dairy milkshakes which I HAD to try. Date of visit: 11/27/21 We had high hopes upon entering Burgatory, given the high ratings on Yelp for all of the area locations and the added bonus of them using the Yelp Waitlist feature. Yet we were significantly underwhelmed--maybe Pittsburgh residents don't know what a good burger is and are mistaking this mediocrity for greatness? We were seated promptly, but then sat for a good fifteen minutes before receiving a greeting by our server. A few minutes of waiting, reading the menu and then rereading the menu, we discovered the "build your own" slips. None of the pre-fabricated burgers did anything for us, so we all started creating our own and were pretty much done by the time Rod was available to see us. Rod had a playfully cranky style that I appreciated, but I suspect he was just stretched too thin, we didn't see him much for the rest of the meal. Good thing we didn't need anything after the food came--we were all done before he reappeared. The burgers themselves, despite the care that we placed in creating them the way we wanted them, were quite pedestrian. I couldn't taste anything related to the mushroom run I had requested and the burger was former too thick, making it hard to get my mouth around at some points and also resulting in some bites of just bread without any meat. The chips that came with my sandwich were dry, and nearly devoid of flavor. I honestly would have preferred a bag of chips over these. The final straw came with the Ginormous Cookie Sundae, which is a sad excuse for a $10 dessert. The only true word of its name is the reference to its size, as it is huge. But it's really 70% whipped cream, 15% ice cream, 10% cookie, and 5% chocolate sauce. Adding insult to injury, the cookie was not only room temperature, it was incredibly bland. You're paying for the presentation, not the actual menu item, unfortunately. read more
