Barack plumbing installed my water heater exactly 2 years ago…read more beautiful installation, excellent 12 year warranty on the Rheem Gladiator heater. this week I shut off the valve leading to the heater while we worked in the bathroom. the first fitting from the valve started dripping immediately. water sensor alarms go off, we call Barack and they respond. they fixed the leak and gave me a discount off the regular service charge even though the warranty on their work was 1 year. Nathan showed up and he was nice and went out of his way to try and get the thing working. This was just to be an appt for an "estimate" but he still tried his best to get this water heater working. No go, it needed all new insides in spite of being brand new. Which were under warranty and shipped to me the following week. He told me the next visit should be around $185. and I was fine with that. The next day I got an email from Steve's stating that the "next visit would be $382. for whatever reason they came back for." This was upsetting as I didn't think I was covered for "labor" under the mfgrs warranty and would have to pay it out of pocket and it was a financial hardship. Almost 80 and existing only on a very meagre SS income. Emailed Steve's to ask why it was so high; no one responded. Then someone emailed after that to ask "how the service went?" and I asked the same question again, about why the estimate almost doubled in price? And again I got no response! When a business ghosts you it's not a good sign. There is clearly room for improvement in the area of communications. I was ready to look for a different plumber when by sheer luck I met someone who knew the manager of their Kona office. This person talked to the manager and explained my situation; the next thing I knew was that Nathan called out of the blue and offered to come back over immediately and install the new parts to get the heater working. He came right over, did the work and didn't mention a thing about money. I was thrilled and willing to pay the $185. he had originally quoted me but he said "no, not necessary" and left!! In the meantime I had found out that I did have labor coverage on the water heater's warranty. I emailed Steve's and reminded them about labor being covered and asked them to please get their money from AO Smith, the manufacturer. I hope they did since they deserve to be paid for their time and work. I was not looking for free work! I would definitely use them again and I would also request Nathan if possible. I must have called at least 4 or 5 other plumbers and only one responded saying he was booked up for the next 6 weeks. Such is life in Hawaii. If I hadn't have met this person who knew the manager this might have been a completely different story...

So I called 3J's and I did not ask for an estimate which was my mistake. They picked up a new water heater (less than $400) which I ordered and paid at Home Depot. They brought it to our condo and replaced the old water heater. There are 4 water heaters in an attached storage outside of our unit. They had to maneuver other water heaters to take ours out. They did not tell me when they arrived and I'm not sure how long it took to do the job, but I feel like they were not there more than 2 hours. A couple days later, I received an invoice of total $759.67. Drain down & move neighboring water heaters to gain access to faulty water heater: 2.5hour X$225/hr, heater flexes: 2X$24, Misc CPVC: 1X$15, Heater pick up$50, Heater disposal $50 and GE Tax.

It was fast and well done and even came in costing less than we had thought! It's been a looooong time since I worked with any company that had this level of communication and customer service. It used to be very professionally run but I highly recommend you DO NOT USE this company. I had them come out to repair my sewer pump. The tech said the float valve just needed adjusting and cleaning, no parts. He was here less than an hour. I received the payment notice by email and clicked and paid it before I opened and read the invoice. They billed for two hours @ $225 per hour. I called and finally got through to someone and explained the above. She said she would look into it and get back. Several days went by with no call. Again, had a problem getting thought to anyone. Finally, the gal said she would get with the supervisor and got back to me saying they billed it at the wrong hourly rate, should have been $155 per hour. She said the two hours would stand as they change for travel time and, evidently, do not prorate the second hour. I told her that was fine, please credit my credit card. I did not hear or see any credit come through several days later so I called. The gal told me she would have Calvin Junior give me a call. He did but did not know what it was about. I explained. His comment was "I don't know why they agreed to a refund be I will give it as a credit to your account." I told him I was not happy with that, that I wanted a refund as I did not know when I might need their service. After several back and forth, he refused a refund only a credit. When I told him I would get on Yelp and explain the bad customer service, he replied "do what you have to do."
