Opening Day was great. Then there was decline. I wrote up my concerns and submitted them to the…read morecompany. My concerns were primarily related to organization, presentation of donations and treatment of customers. Nothing happened at the time, staff got confrontational. I stopped going. Recently I started sewing with salvaged materials that I reclaimed from unsold thrift shop garments. The Goodwill in Winfield, KS currently has a program where unsold items (the color tag of the week) is marked down 75% for the whole week. I had been stocking up there. But, one day I was at Hobby Lobby in Ponca City (a few stores down from Goodwill) and I hesitantly gave Goodwill-Ponca another try. Apparently, at least "at this time", Goodwill-Ponca has a clearance day on Monday where all items with a given tag color are a flat rate price (currently under $1.50). That means I can get jeans or a wedding dress or a 3pc suit or a large framed picture or ...whatever... for just the flat rate. At first I couldn't believe that they marked their items that low. I filled my cart, removed the hangers, folded the clothes, went through the line and paid my next-to-nothing on my items. I stashed those in the car and went back in for another round. I don't care if these items fit, are missing a button, are last year's fashion or anything. I'm looking for art supplies. Most of what I'm buying is usable as-is, but I'm not here to flip garments or decorate my house. I'm here to gather things that I can deconstruct and reconstruct into something new. At less than $1.50 for a blanket...I can afford to play with possibilities. I've walked out with a receipt showing that I saved hundreds of dollars (on the Goodwill prices) while I knew I was spending pennies on the dollar...especially if I were to buy such things as new fabric yardage/frames/etc. I still buy my ties for my projects from Goodwill-Winfield (because 75% off of the price there is less than the flat rate at Goodwill-Ponca) but reading these reviews, you'd think that nobody should ever shop Goodwill-Ponca, and (IMO) that would be a shame. They have a good sized store. It has always been a relatively neat store with unique/good selection. Yes, I've had moments of disappointment and frustration, but I'm not on edge about how I'll be treated by staff, anymore. The chaos on the shelves has improved (as much as a thrift shop can), too. During a more recent incident I wondered if I was headed for a relapse in my appreciation for the store. I had stepped down an aisle and they took my cart from the end of the aisle (with over an hour of shopping and sorting/folding invested in it) to the back room. I panicked. I drive an hour to visit the Ponce store, I spend an hour+ laboring over options and sorting/weeding out options, I was right there (how did I miss it?), are we going back to an adversarial/mean staff?...all of it was running through my head. I understand the struggle of identifying abandoned carts, but I was less than 10ft away and no one asked about the cart before taking it...I hadn't even seen them take it in my peripheral vision). It was an honest mistake, but it could have been a really bad deal (if the staff had acted like they had in the past) but there's been turn-over in staffing and I wasn't treated unkindly when I raised my concern. The cashier quickly acted on what they thought happened. The associate who had taken the cart wasn't happy about the awkward situation or trying to track down the components (a task that was relatively easy to do since it had just happened), but that's part of learning retail and learning to be courteous even when you're grumbling and kicking yourself on the inside. I'm a former teacher. Goodwill helps those with barriers to employment and people who are learning ropes of some sort. I can be patient with the learning process, as long as the ones in charge know how to be kind and courteous themselves (both to customers and to associates who are learning as much as they're working). With my luck, I'll eat my words and discover that nothing I said still applies (when I visit the store next time), but for right now, I think this location of Goodwill is larger, neater and has a wider range of donations than other Goodwill (and other thrift shops) that I've been in. Goodwill stores in this region (KS/OK) tend to be pretty organized/neat/friendly, anyway, though some are small. From an accessibility standpoint, the aisles are a bit compact, carts can access most areas of the store so...it could be better, but it could be worse. There is also a use of taller shelves and those shelves can get packed full (but, the last several interactions I've had with the folks who are stocking/organizing things have been positive so I wouldn't hesitate to ask them to reach something for me, especially since in this store the cashier(s) and the one(s) stocking the shelves are separate people, so they have time to help). This store does not carry jewelry.

Cute, affordable clothing of excellent quality, shoes, bags, jewelry, skincare...shall I go on? Shopping here, though, frees me from walking around town noticing that everyone else is wearing my very outfit. I prefer to leave that kind of business to the department store shoppers. Venturing all the way to the back of the shop brings you to the perfect place for primping, preening, and maybe even a refreshing, whole, new look! They worked quickly and our styles were absolutely beautiful. I appreciated that for my hair (bride), Jamie made it look exactly like my "inspiration" photo. The bridesmaids' curls were still beautiful at the end of our reception 12 hours later. Our makeup looked beautiful, glamorous, and complimented each person's features. They personalized the makeup to what each person wanted. During the months leading up to the wedding, Jamie was always extremely responsive to texts, which was much appreciated. She squeezed an additional person in last-minute due to her being stood up by another stylist! They allowed us to bring brunch to the salon to eat while we got ready! In summary, I cannot recommend these ladies highly enough. They provided an excellent experience from start to finish.
