McGinty's is a solid, straightforward bar. Casual, approachable - the kind of place you can drop into for a couple drinks with friends or alone. Good beer selection, great service. No food, so you're welcome to bring in your own and there are several awesome spots to pick up from (Angelo's, Dang Good Foods, Greek Village Grill) nearby. There's a pool table if that's your thing. It is no longer a gay bar. The Church bar is gone and it is back to McGinty's. I guess it reverted to previous owner. I saw the Ohio State basketball tournament game there. A bunch of people I went to high school with were in the bar. Probably 30 of them. I said "Oh nice. I didn't know all of you guys are gay too." They were like "Dude, this isn't the gay bar anymore" and I pretended to be really upset and acted like I wanted to leave. They have a great beer selection. read more

Great traditional Irish bar, even has Smithwicks on tap. Greeted by a very informal young female bartender, didn't catch her name, she still has some social / leadership skills to brush up on.. Another bartender named Jessica took over and almost organically made us feel right at home with her open and inviting personality. If there's someone worth visiting to make you feel welcome, it's her.. Overall, it was a wonderful "last hurrah" before heading home to the South. Super cute bar. They really have a great selection of off the wall type beers on tap. Great for anyone looking for something different. Ex. Try the "Sweet Baby Jesus" beer - chocolate and peanut butter porter. Or, Great Lakes Christmas Ale with cinnamon sugar on the rim. :) Great service and inviting atmosphere. read more

Pretty unfortunate that a patron who obviously is "love struck" over the bartender had to cause a scene with a patron asking for a pizza order after 2 hrs and has watched multiple patrons eat and take their food. Yet all edged owner sat there and got an attitude with myself. Uncalled for. Terrible. If one of as concerned, and owned the business they would have interjected. Yet they continued to sit on a bar stool and drink. I have never had a prob before. Pizza finally came and cold as f.*ick I realize they partner with Angelo's. But what it boils down to is loyalty to a costumer. I don't need someone telling me what I did or did t do. Terrible. This little pub is great if you're looking for a casual night out without too much of a crowd. The only time I've seen it really busy is for St Patrick's Day (it's an Irish bar after all). Typically a pretty dim lit place in the evening, it's a relaxed space for a few drinks or catching a game on their large TVs. Coming during the week will get you the best deal on drinks, but their prices are pretty reasonable already. If I visit, I'm stopping in on a Monday or Thursday. Mondays offer 50% off of Angelo's pizza which is a block away. Order your pizza at McGinty's bar and they'll walk it over to you when it's done. It's fantastic, check it out. Thursday offers $3 on any of their craft beer drafts. That's a deal that's tough to beat especially with their wide selection. Tuesday nights are music trivia night. I've attended a few times but I'm not much of music buff so I'm useless. It gets pretty competitive so bring your "A" game. The room on the other side of the bar offers some couches to lounge on and also a pool table. Check it out for your next laid-back night out! read more

I love this bar. I first came here for a promotion during Beer Week. For those who are unfamiliar, a lot of beer company reps pick a day during Beer Week and hang out at the bar all day. This usually means a lot of free stuff, such as beer glasses with company logos, stickers, car air fresheners, magnets, etc. It's good fun, and the beer reps are usually awesome people. I always snag a pint glass to add to my collection. McGinty's does NOT sell food. This is purely a bar. If you want food, ask the bartender for the Angelo's menu and you can have the pizza delivered to the bar. Anyway, the bar itself is warm and friendly. The bar is split into two rooms. The first has the bar and a bunch of tables, along with seats by the fireplace. The second has a pool table and some nice leather couches to lounge on. The basement has the bathrooms. The bartenders are quick, and when the place isn't very busy, they will chat and hang around. Usually the music is just run by someone's phone, but they have a touchtunes machine if you really want to hear that one song that's been nagging you all week. Drink prices are average or just below average for the area. I'm particular to their Guinness because they actually pour it correctly. Yes, I'm that guy. Sorry to make you wait 30 more seconds for your drink. Monday is half off Angelo's pizza, and you can take advantage of that at McGinty's without leaving you precious bar seat. Music trivia is on Tuesdays. I've only been once, but it was a lot of fun. You get normal trivia questions, but sometimes you get snippets of songs and you have to name the title, band, or album. Wednesday is Whiskey Night. I think all whiskeys are $1 off, and Fireball is even cheaper. Thursday would be craft beer night, where a certain craft beer is cheaper. read more

One thing: half price Angelo's pizzas on Mondays! Which means you can hang out in a chill bar, drink some good beer and avoid the chaos (but still get the pizza!) We've always had great service and they've always had a pretty interesting mix of drafts! It seems like an especially cozy winter bar -- dark wood, friendly people and locals. My friends and I were asked to leave because we have out of state IDs. Even after giving several forms of identification, the woman behind the counter refused to serve us. She and one of the customers were extremely rude to us when we asked why and tried to provide additional forms of identification, despite each of us being well over 21 years of age. I would not recommend this bar to anyone. read more

I love McGintys. It's a bar with a very laid back vibe and a decent crowd. I usually come here on Mondays when Angelos has their half of pizza deal. Even though the deal is when you dine in Angelos only, you can sit at McGintys, have a couple beers, and order your Angelos from there and it's still half off! What could be better? I've never been in on a night that seemed to have any specials, but their beer at least is priced about how you would expect. It's never seemed too crowded when I've visited, and they have two rooms for you to enjoy. One thing that I have noticed while visiting here though is that there seem to be some regulars that sit at the bar and get very very very drunk. I thought I overheard once that one was the owner, but I could be mistaken. They can get pretty loud and rowdy, and I feel bad for the way they talk to the one bartender that always seems to be there when I go. Overall great bar! read more

I absolutely love this place. This place has absolutely no frills (and no food for that matter) and that's okay! The beers are cold, reasonably priced and there's a great selection. Good selection of liquor as well, as I seem to only stop out on their Whiskey Wednesday night, but I'm not complaining. They have a fireplace and cozy furniture which makes this place my go to spot for colder days in Lakewood. The bartenders are what really make this place stand out. For a place with so many regulars they do an absolutely fantastic job of making everyone (including non-regulars) feel welcome. The bathroom is downstairs so if you have someone in your party with mobility issues this may not be the spot for you. They also have a pool table in the back and on Mondays you can pop in for half priced Angelo's pizza (that they will deliver to your seat)! Check this place out sooner rather than later. read more

Quaint little Lakewood corner bar. Appears to have a fireplace that would be really nice on a cold day. No food, but very good music. My only concern is the overly chatty young brunette behind the bar. She's got loads of personality, but can't seem to separate herself from her conversations to serve those waiting. Multiple patrons had to wait or go to the poor taste move of flagging her down. Then again, they could put a bullhorn on one of the tables to get her attention. This used to be a cool church-themed bar with a great selection of craft beers on draft and happy hour specials. A year or two ago it changed hands and re-themed as an Irish pub, and got rid of most of the craft beer options - and the remaining ones are all a couple dollars more than they used to be. Happy hour specials are much more limited as well, more or less the same as what you could get at any of the dozens of other dive bars along Madison. Disappointed - I live within walking distance and it bums me out seeing this place go down hill. Sad to say I really don't see myself going back. read more

Cool vibe. Great happy hour prices! And... it's dog-friendly! Staff was very welcoming. My son and I took my dog for her 4th birthday (which is 28 in dog years, so she was legal). We ordered pizza from Angelos (YUM) and I walked down to pick it up. We sat on the couch side of McGinty's, ate our pizza, and watched ESPN with a cold beer. And my dog got the crust for her birthday treat. read more

I've been here a few times and have been happy with the service and selection of beer each time. The place is very clean and has a great atmosphere. Very laid back with pool tables and couches along with standard high tops. I first stopped in with a friend while looking for a place to have a drink after work one day. To my delight, we stumbled upon music trivia night and ended up staying for more than one beer. The bathrooms are located down a flight of stairs (I imagine that being a bit treacherous for those who have had a few drinks) and they don't serve food, although Angelos pizza delivers.
