Parnell's is an Irish bar nestled in a charming and historic Cedar Fairmount neighborhood of Cleveland Heights. It's the neighborhood's gathering place. What sets Parnell's aside from other Irish pubs is that it's pretty classy and sophisticated with dim lighting, nice ambiance, Irish charm, and well curated drink menu with more than just beer. By the way, the beer is really good too! I've been to Parnell's for a wide range of occasions - book club, date nights, and even Irish New Year! All very memorable and pleasant experiences! Parnell's is a cozy bar with limited seating including the bar, high tops, a few tables by the windows, and a small room in the back. On weekends the pub gets very lively and busy. On weekdays you'll usually find more room to roam. It's a great destination to spend your whole evening, have some drinks before or after dinner. No food is served here, but there are so many options within the walking distance (neighborhood is safe to walk in day and night). Genuinely you can't go wrong with any surrounding food choices. Many people come here to socialize, have a beer solo, play board games (bring your own), or spend their time at happy hour. Service is always very pleasant and attentive. It's also important to mention that as a single woman I always feel completely safe in this space. Everyone is welcoming and social! The pub is well known for their beer and whiskey. As far as beer, you'll find a variety here - Guinness of course, and local beers - Harp, Butcher & The Brewer, and Fatheads. Tonight I tried The Repeater Euro Lager from the Butcher & The Brewer ($8 + $0.16 credit card surcharge). It was a very smooth lager. I'm not quite a beer connoisseur, but I always felt that beers here are really good. You can also find flights (whiskey, bourbon, etc), wine, gin, vodka, tequila, and rum. Don't overlook their QR menu (found at the bar) with their special drinks. I had mixed drinks here and can attest to the fact that they were very strong, with high quality liquor, and delicious. Parking is available at the lot in the back of the building (free). There is also plenty of street parking. Although watch for any posted parking signs. Most importantly, visit Parnell's for Irish NYE! They celebrate NYE during Dublin time (much earlier than NYE). There's a large festive crowd, countdown, and champagne. It's the most festive NYE I've been to, so full of Irish spirit and spirits! You haven't lived until you celebrated Irish NYE! I recommend visiting Parnell's whether for a casual after work pint (especially if you're close to the location at CWRU or the Clinic), a casual date (it might a little loud but you'll have so much fun), a gathering with friends, or really any occasion. Located at the heart of Cedar and Lee, right next to the Theatre, Parnell's Pub is one of the best places on the eastside to grab a pint and watch a soccer game (or a proper football match if you prefer). Just be warned: THEY DO NOT SERVE FOOD. You can bring outside snacks and they have partnered with a local restaurant called Nighttown, which is a 1-minute walk across Lenox road, to deliver food to the pub. Much like the Playhouse Parnell's the Cleveland Heights location is a post-modern Irish pub with retro lights and a Gothic vibe. The whiskey list is extensive, the beer list has something for everyone (even a craft beer snob like me) and the service is ALWAYS on point. The two times I have been both bartenders were friendly and attentive without being pushy or annoying, which can be a balancing act. It is also very refreshing to consistently have sports on TVs and not the food network or some random infomercial like many other 'sports bars' do nowadays. What's even better about Parnell's specifically is they feature soccer and don't give you some judgmental look when you ask them to put it on. They even know what channel a station like 'Fox' or 'ESPN' is without asking me like I know. If I sound irritated by other sports bars' lack of sports focus and knowledge... I am! (LOL). Give me a dimly lit pub with no food, good beer, great staff and sports ANYDAY over a loud, TV filled, chain-restaurant with up-selling servers that just want me to buy, pay and leave as quickly as possible. Ugh. The bar owner told the bartender and the bartender concurred that I was loaded and not to serve me. I had a stroke! About six months ago! Walking is a challenge! I am certainly not the first person this has happened to! His boss (and he) saw me walk in, unsteadily and with help from my girlfriend. My friend stopped to finish her story and that's when he told us. I said "look, buddy" and actually told him given that it's the second time this has happened to me. He didn't care. I will never go here again. Totally tired of it. By the way, I am the first person to cut myself off (at that time I had one beer). I just want to walk and not have people look at me. read more

I think this is one of the most over rated bars in town. It smells and looks straight out of the 1970's. I do not find that endearing; just lazy. When I was there a couple of weeks ago we ordered 3 draughts and there was only enough for one of us. The bartender offered to "mix" what was left with a different substance to make some sort of drink. I think that should have at least warranted a free beer, but the mix she created actually cost more than the draught alone. My friend's next 2 choices were also out. I just don't get why people pee their pants over this place. Yeah, it is located on a "fun" street but it is no fun. I am sort of mad it blocks a better bar from taking the location. Yep. I said it. Parnell's is one of my favorite pubs in the Cleveland area. It is cozy and has a nice happy hour. The staff are friendly and pour great mixed drinks and they have a large variety of beer to choose from. I am always impressed with their Guinness, they really pour a nice pint. Parnell's has a outdoor patio area that is really nice and wonderful for bigger groups and parties. Parnell's attracts a nice crowd, even during the week. They are always hopping on Friday's and Saturday's. I have eaten at Parnell's several times, it is typical pub food and there is usually a hearty serving, so good to share if you have a group of people. I really enjoy going out for the drinks and the overall atmosphere of the pub. It is pretty well know in the Cleveland area as Parnell's. I rarely hear it being referred to as Charles Stewart Parnell's. No matter what you call it, it is a top notch place to come and have a great time!! read more

Real quick...anybody who is anybody will simply refer to this place as "Parnell's"...I don't think even the regulars know the full title. And speaking of regulars, that is who you will find here...and they are a lot of fun. Its dive-y enough to not have pretension, but not SO dive-y that it serves as an ad hoc frat party. The bartenders are great, the drinks cheap, and the crowd lively without being obnoxious. Its an "Irish" bar, but not with the over-the-top pandering of a Claddagh or whatnot. They will have football (soccer to the uncouth) on the television, but if not, they will have some cool music playing (the night I fell in love with this place they were playing deep cuts of great classic rock...not sure who I have to thank for that, but...thank you). They serve some food, but not "dinner" style food...just grab the fish and chips and you'll be fine. Parking can be had in the lot behind the bar (more easily accessible from Cedar Road), and if you park by a yellow meter 50 cents will cover your entire evening. I personally don't like this bar very much. Why? I think that they're racist: twice I went in there with black guys, and since I'm a white girl, I guess, they gave me dirty looks. Secondly, their drinx are way too expensive, over-rated, and the bar, well, you're right everyone, is dark, dank, with dark lighting, aaaaaaaand it's just downright depressing..... I can't add much to the previous review except to say that if you're looking for a rare thing in Cleveland Heights, namely a bar that is patronized by adults instead of drunk frat boys, than this is the place you've been looking for. Excellent bartenders, great import drafts, happy hour that lasts everyday until 9pm, and an intelligent clientele. How can you not like that? There is a limited menu but the bar will order food for you from "The Pub" just a few storefronts down. You're not going to find food here, so come prepared with your snacks or eat prior too. When I say its a bar, that's what it is. The bartender was kind and appropriately attentive. She was happy to help put me in the "right" beer if I needed the assistance. They have a ton of whiskey selections if you're in the mood. There's a very small "patio". There is pub food but I usually venture to Parnell's for the drinks. The prices are a little up there so I don't frequent for that reason. Parnells is great in it's own quirky way! It's honestly more deserving of 3 stars, but I had to give it the 4th since it is one of my favorites! They have a decent beer and liquor selection (I don't think they serve wine?), and will let you bring in or order food from any of the local places as they don't have a kitchen. But they do have an Autofry! One of my favorite Parnell quotes was when I asked the bartender was food was good there. The answer? "Nothing." He was right, but its worth the cost to watch that crazy machine in action! Otherwise Parnells has a decent amount of TVs and a couple of dartboards. Known simply as Parnell's to the inhabitants and pub crawlers on Lee Road, to the untrained eye there's nothing really special about the tiny hole in the wall bar. Opening each morning during the World Cup, sometimes as early as 10am, what Parnell's does offer is camaraderie, good conversation and a variety of Irish brew on tap. Chat up the person next to you or the person serving you, it makes no difference- everyone here is kind and happy to see you come in again and again. Great hole in the wall pub with great specials and a great owner! Was in Cleveland on business and randomly stopped into this place to grab a beer and watch an NBA game and was pleasantly surprised! 20oz Uinta Cutthroat for $3! The owner, Mr. Parnell himself, was working the bar and said whenever he gets deals from his distributer he passes it on the the customers, which is the way it should be! As it was a Tuesday and expectedly slow got to chat with him all game about bball, skiing, family, his childhood in Ireland, etc. Great guy! Simple, divey place. Even if bartender supreme Declan was not an acquaintance of mine, this would still be my kind of place. Blissfully free of bullshit, loaded with more than a dozen taps, and fast and friendly service. Lots of whiskey selections, too. If I lived closer, I'd take advantage of the whiskey tastings. It's dark, seems smaller than it actually is, and usually has soccer on one or more screens. I love Parnell's. I moved to Cleveland in the summer of 2010 and found Parnell's quickly thereafter. I've been coming ever since. The beer selection is good and the surroundings are unpretentious, but it's Declan and his crew that make this place shine...with a dash of Irish sarcasm of course. If you want to drink in a trendy abomination full of bartenders all too ready to coddle you as you drink your Cosmo or Appletini, please look elsewhere...no one wants you here. If, however, you want a perfectly poured pint or a dram of fine scotch, served by good and attentive people, this is your place. Just do yourself a favor...don't order an Irish Car Bomb. read more
