went here today for a Xmas lunch with an old colleague. Barmaid was server as well. At noon, we were only folks there but that soon changed as quite a few folks dropped in including a table of 15 as we were leaving our dining experience. Off the bat, barmaid brought me my Diet Cola, no ice with a boatload of ice and repeated that when she refilled later on. She wasn't real helpful with suggestions on her faves or most popular dishes. My colleague started with a Moscow Mule and fried pickles, both that he said were good. He ordered just a salad which was nicely sized. He eats ANYTHING from the years i have known him. Not particular in any fashion. I ordered a 'paddy' melt which was crispy enough to bounce a coin off and the amount of grease that my napkin sopped up was over the top. Their entire two sided menu came with hand cut fries and a pickle spear withEVERY CHOICE. NO HEALTHY EATEN THAT I COULD FIND AT THIS LOCATION I never found my pickle spear but the fries were overdone in some instances and way underdone in others, tells me their fryer needs some attention. These meals were done one by one since we were still the only ones there at 12:30. Service was completed quickly enough. Bit disappointed in the ambience and food this go round. They get another chance but it will be some time before i am in this neighborhood since i am a Chardon resident. Made poor impression for this Geauga County person. My colleague and i had plenty of time to chat and talk since we hadn't seen each other since LAST XMAS. So that part was a success. Perch dinners are the Ultimate. I take my friends and relatives to the Public House when they visit Cleveland, Ohio. I envy the neighborhood pub scene in Cleveland and Public House is a perfect example. Great service, great pub vibe, great pub food and drink and happy patrons. Went to Public House today. Had a reuben and my brother in law had a burger with pineapple on it. He LOVED the burger. Will have to try it next visit. Classic neighborhood bar in Cleveland that's been at kamm's corner for many many years. It has craft beers as well as regular beers available and a selection of soft drinks. They have great regular food and their Dublin onion soup is wonderful very tasty broth, with not a overabundance of onions croutons and cheese. I had their club sandwich which is great and friends had a hotdog which they said was great another had the French tip which they really enjoyed. A very pleasant nice place you can come by yourself and sit at the bar for a nice lunch or bring several people with you for a nice group lunch. Parking is pretty available in the back for lunch and it's a fairly easy in and out kind of place. read more

This is a pretty good spot in the heart of Kamm's Corners. The staff was very friendly and hard working. This place has a good atmosphere and seems like the crowd was mostly regulars which is cool. I stopped in to meet with some friends for the Browns home opener so this place was packed! They don't have a lot to choose from on draft but I was able to find something. They have a good sized menu and from what I here the food is really good. I didn't have anything to eat this time but I plan to try something on my next visit. One cool thing they do for Browns games is they have squares available for each game and also each game you can fill out a card for a free raffle and this game they raffled of for some Browns related prizes but at the end of the season they take all the card from every week and give away a cruise. New Year's Day, lunch break while working at the hospital. Called to be sure they were open. Walked in about 12:30 to see all of two patrons and two staff, all talking to each other. Stood there and waited for some form of acknowledgement. Nope. Both employees looked at me, then continued their conversation. Looked at them as I exited and said, "Really?" Walked directly to their competitor just one street away who welcomed me warmly, along with several others who were there. My wife and I stopped in tonight (a thursday) around 5:30pm. The food was fine, as it usually is. Nothing special but a decent meal and usually worth dropping in for once in a while when we're in the area. But this will be the last time we do so at least until the pandemic is behind us. The bartender had her mask under her chin nearly the entire time. The bar was crowded with no dividers in place and multiple parties all sitting right up next to one another as if they'd never heard of Covid. And of course, all of them speaking to and ordering from the same maskless bartender. Additionally, a dad and his daughter (8 y/o old or so) came in with no masks, made their way to a table and sat down without anyone from the staff stopping them or saying anything. I understand that the restrictions in place right now are inconvenient and perhaps even costly but they are in place for a reason. Compliance is what it takes to do business in 2020 and if you won't comply, then you shouldn't be doing business and you certainly won't get mine. read more

The Public House is one of those perfectly acceptable West Park pubs. Nothing about it is either exceptionally good nor exceptionally poor. They've made some improvements in the several decades that I've been intermittently visiting, first as a neighborhood resident and then as a holiday visitor. The bar in the middle of the floor, for example, that was once so stupidly big that it took up 60% of the floor area, has been reduced so that people can actually walk by one another on the outskirts. There's a fair amount of seating, a tolerable beer selection (macro-swill, Guinness, and maybe some Great Lakes), okay prices, and a crowd that isn't nearly as douche-heavy as West Park Station a few doors down. I've never done the food, so I can't speak to that. There's a jukebox with a decent selection of the usual Irish punk West Park bars specialize in. So, if you want to see your former teachers from Our Lady of the Angels drinking by day and the current crop of neighborhood kids who've turned legal by night, this is a perfectly alright place for a pint and a shot. It's not divey enough for ironic hipster slumming nor upscale or memorable enough to make it a destination, but as a place to whet your whistle on the way elsewhere or a last call destination on the stumble home, Public House will get the job done for you. In a weird way, it's my archetype for the three-star review. It's not as if it's a three star mean score, an establishment that does some things well and others badly, but rather a place that is uniformly solid but unspectacular. We stopped in for lunch while running errands. We've eaten here a dozen times or so. The last being a year and a half ago. We ordered the onion soup, some chips and dip and a corned beef sandwich. It all came out together. Might have liked the soup first, but to be fair, we did not specify. The standout was the soup. It was actually quite good. The chips and dip were eh. The corned beef was the let down. It is normally very good. Soft, and delicious. Today, it was dry, tepid and just didn't hit the mark. The Sammy was not finished. It was too bad, as I was still hungry. Not to be harsh, but we should have sat at a table, as the waitress seemed nice. Unless you were a regular, Sitting at the bar didn't seem to be a good thing. When I go to the Public House, it's usually with my parents. And that means we're going to run into every person they've ever met before and I will sit there silently while they talk to everyone. That being said, I love the Public House! It's a great spot for a good bite to eat. I usually go for their onion soup, but I don't think I've ever had a problem with anything on the menu. I can't speak to the beer selection since I haven't visited since I turned 21. From what I've heard, there are no complaints. read more

A bit of a drive but worth the trip. We had the half order of perch (Lake Erie which is completely different from Ocean perch). It was all we could eat. BEST Potato skins I have ever had!! This bar is so close to my house and I never go to it because it's like away from all the other bars but they have really great food! Staff seems nice ! Only thing I hate is the bathroom! It has no insulation and if it's freezing outside you bet your butt it's freezing in there!! I can only imagine how it it gets in the summer!! The pierogi's were so hard, I had to get a steak knife. Server disappeared. When she finally returned, I expressed my displeasure and she just shrugged. Service has gone downhill as of late. We stopped by here because wife asked, "What kind of food is Cleveland famous for?" What else could the answer be but "pierogi?" Public House has an excellent example of the genre. The pan-fried pierogi plate was truly magnificent. Though I suggest instead of sour cream to ask for the horseradish that comes with the Irish Egg Roll instead. Aforementioned Irish Egg Roll, stuffed with corned beef and cabbage is also truly excellent, as is the French Onion Soup. French, Irish, Polish under one beer-guzzling roof. . Public House Irish Soda Bread ! My first time. FIVE STAR FABULOUS. Can't imagine finding any other better than theirs. We ordered two fried Lake Erie Perch dinners. However, didn't come with the expected white rolls typically served by most spots. Instead, generously-sized textured golden brown slices of bread with nice big pats of butter. Took a bite. Ohhh, my. Reminded me of the wonderful Date Nut Bread from the closed (sigh) Hough's Bakery. (Have tried to duplicate that tasty slightly sweet treat at least three times---without success. Very good, but not close enough.) Found the closest---maybe it's "near equal"---with only the minimal of ingredient differences---here at Public House. Yes! Asked one of our two super-friendly servers what this amazing bread was, and if I could purchase a loaf. IRISH SODA BREAD. Smiling, she thanked me, but after a thoughtful moment she apologized and said she couldn't because they'll easily go through what they baked for that busy day---the Friday before St. Patrick's Day. It WAS crowded with a line running along the front of the building. Darn. She bent down and whispered. "I'll give you another slice to take home." (Wrapped up neatly in aluminum foil, along with another big pat of butter, I thoroughly enjoyed it for breakfast the next day---but with controlled restraint. I wanted to make it last. Fried Lake Erie Perch, Tartar Sauce, Coleslaw, and Fries, an easy 4 stars. All fresh and in generous serving sizes---enough for 2 meals the next day. We LOVE our perch dinners, and this was one of the VERY BEST of dozens over the years from several bars and restaurants. Highly recommended. Especially that tender, moist, yummy, one-slice-is-not-nearly-enough, baked in-house BREAD ! The Good News . . . Fried Perch dinners and Soda bread are served all year long . ---not just during Lent ! The Bad News . . . . But ONLY on Fridays. (Of course, that means I'll have to at least TRY my hand at Soda Bread now. And if I'm lucky enough to come CLOSE to Public House's excellent version---even if a level or two beneath---that will be one major achievement.) read more

I had a steak dinner meet up with a lot of guys I grew up with. A few of them live around Westpark so this was the meeting grounds after the steaks. The service was great. The atmosphere was enjoyable, people were being extremely friendly, saying excuse me when they passed etc. Out of the strip of bars that make up the Westpark scene, this is by far my favorite. I did see a familiar face of the Cleveland cop who Ric Flair chopped my friend at Treehouse the one night. I doubt he remembered my friend though. Maybe I am just paranoid. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me. I find it odd that no one really reviews Westpark bars. This could be a reality for a few different reasons that I think of. read more

I'd heard about the food and atmosphere in this place and was really happy about stopping. They have a lot of Irish fare and the food was great, including their french-fried string beans which are a treat. The service was really great and the people there are very nice and your glass (in my case, of iced tea:) is never empty. I was brought in by the special board out front. The words chicken paprikash translates in every language to good food. Well, at 9pm I was scraping the bottom of the barrel. And unfortunately, it needed more sauce... Well, things started of really, really awesome. I'm talking Dublin Onion Soup. Once I dug thru about 1/2" of burnt cheese, there was lots of onion, croutons, and is that Guiness stout in my soup?! This is the best onion soup ever. Life is more than soup, so try the Hodge Podge platter! If nothing else the zucchini sticks!! Another really good surprise. The cheese sticks, chickie strips, and tater skins are good but average. My family and I have been regulars at this restaurant/bar for years are never disappointed. As a local in the area, it is a great place to go for quick and delicious dining and drinks. The staff is very friendly and it is a nice place to try some cool, Irish dishes. If you're a fan of seafood they have the most amazing Lake Erie Perch and everything is reasonably priced!
