I'm a regular at this store and sometimes visit twice in a week. While cashing in a lottery ticket the boss said " sh@t under his breath as he had to scrape off the QR code to cash it in. He then handed my $10 with a humph. That is the last time I'll deal with them. read more

Thanksgiving at the S house underwent a major paradigm shift in the year 2000, when I started tending bar part time to support myself in grad school. All of a sudden my parents, who'd only had the occasional glass of wine with dinner while I was growing up, wanted me to implement a full-on cocktail hour before our traditional Thanksgiving meal. And since we usually sit down to feast around 2 pm, that meant getting my parents' friends, aunt, uncle and 89 year-old grandma drunk just after one in the afternoon. Yes, my life is kind of awesome. Normally my sis flies in early to help my mom with the cooking while I show up Thursday morning just in time to dust off the shaker, because I am an Important New Yorker With Too Many Important Things to Do to Take Extra Vacation Days for an Arguably Politically Incorrect Holiday. However, this year sis ate with her new husband's family, so I had some extra responsibilities. But extra responsibilities are no problemo when they mean booze shopping, and after the New Hampshire State Liquor Stores on I-95, there is no better booze shopping in New England than McGreen's. My shopping list included ingredients for this year's signature drink, the Dark and Stormy, as well as a decent bottle of bourbon for after-dinner Manhattans AND my bourbon pecan pie AND my bourbon mashed sweet potatoes. As you could have probably guessed, put me in the kitchen and I'll find a way to incorporate bourbon into everything I make. McGreen's has an excellent selection of every type of liquor imaginable, and at prices that are so much lower than NY ones you'll think there's a typo on the price tag. For example, Jim Beam Black, a fine bourbon that's over $20 here went for $9.49 at McGreen's, and more high end bottles, like Basil Hayden, were at least $15 cheaper than at Astor Wines. If I hadn't had to take the train home, I would have bought a case, easy. On a side note, my folks bought all the wine for my sister's wedding here, and they not only gave them a substantial bulk discount, but bought back everything we didn't use. I don't really see how there could be a better liquor store anywhere! read more

The "Manager" Bill is shallow minded and a bit of a jerk (I've looked online and he isn't the manager, hence the quotes.. he might be a supervisor though). After reading the review above I called from out of state to try and get a gift certificate purchased for my brother who lives around the corner. but mailed to me so I could give it to him when I saw him this Christmas. Granted - it's a little odd of a request, but tons of stores are more than willing to do this! Having done this before I picked up the phone expecting to hand over a credit card number, maybe fax over some ID - but even after offering to send a photocopy of the card and a SAS envelope, he hung up on me because the store wasn't open! I'm sure that he thought I was trying to scam him or something because there is no other rational explanation for the way he acted. One star for lying about being the store manager and for hanging up on someone willing to pay money for a gift certificate! read more

McGreen's is a mile from my house, so....convenience factors into my rating. They have a decent beer selection and quite a variety of ciders which I appreciate. As for hard alcohol, Im usually on the lookout for some craft-style liquor for mixing but they really just stick to regular labels and plain flavors. Since they are technically in Riverside, there are quite a few questionable customers that frequent the store. My last trip in on a Friday night was a little too reminiscent of my old stomping grounds, Fall River which is exactly what we were NOT looking for when we moved to Barrington. How did that guy drive to the store when he was already SO DRUNK?! Shady characters aside, they carry my husband's Dogfish Head and my cider and tequila so I'm sure I'll be returning regularly. read more

Relatively small liquor store. Cashiers younger then I are cocky every time I visit. Good selection of wines, vodka and regular beers like bud, Heineken, Sams etc. I did find a few organic beers I bought one last night too try. You won't get a big selection of local brews here but still take a look you never know what they have on the shelf. Prices are decent same as anywhere else not overly priced. It's literally in same plaza as a market so you could get a nice wine and cheese platter for a party in same visit. Sometimes they have beer or wine tastings from different companies there. Always nice getting freebie merchandise. I believe they have lottery too you can play powerball at checkout. read more

Spent over 58 dollars in this store and as we were leaving the lady that works behind the counter followed me out of the store and attempted to make a scene over the shirt I was wearing. Called to speak to a manager and was rudely hung up on. Highly unprofessional and I will be taking my business elsewhere and advising all my friends to do the same read more
