The pianist and singer, who is performing there when we visited was terrific. I can take nothing away from her in this review. She deserves everything she gets, and I certainly hope they pay her for her energy and talent. This review is about value. We each had a cocktail that cost $17. I'm used to paying a lot for good crafted cocktails and these were good. Still, that's on the high side for a cocktail in a place like this, a place that's not a dedicated Mixology place like it say, Violet Hour. We were also told when we came in that there would be a $10 cover charge for each of us. That's fine as well. What I can't understand is how our bill came to $87. Even with two $17 cocktails and two $10 cover charges and a 20% tip or service charge that is still high. What the hell? You may have a good time if you go to this place. But keep in mind, it will cost you. Likely much more than you think. read more

I would say the ambience is definitely 20 to 30 something, anyone older you'd have to be on the same vibe. Kind of weird for a wine store. Terribly high priced as well. Your store, your vibe. I absolutely loved all the selections of every kind of liquor though, stuff you just don't see in your normal liquor store. That being said, I was entirely priced out for the most part except for the $17 wine I walked out with. I was greeted repeatedly, so much so, that it was actually a joke. So yeah good service. On three counts vibe, service, price, service was top. I can't say I would consider this again. read more

I am so glad my aunts bought a house in Barrington so I am regularly in the area & can easily stop by Grapes & Grains. They have an incredible selection- like if Astor Place Wines in Manhattan was distilled (ha!) down to just the best of the best. Bottles are diversely & fairly priced. The staff is helpful in the kind of way that makes me want to become a regular (which I am well on my way to being). I can't speak to the beer selection but I assume it's just as thoughtfully selected. This is the kind of wine store I would want to open. read more

We've been Grapes & Grains customers for a few years and keep going back. Their beer and wine selection is excellent. They feature a rack of Pacific Northwest wines, which happens to be one of our favorite regions. They also have a nice Reserve Room and ordered a case of our favorite New Zealand Pinot Noir without hesitation. In terms of beer, they highlight New England brewers on about half their shelf space, and during weekly tastings. The growing RI/South Coast brewing community has a nice home here. The staff is very knowledgable and happy to take requests and provide assistance. They also sell locally produced liquor and offer a weekly cocktail in their excellent e-mail newsletter. Grapes and Grains also started highlighting local artisan food producers, and partners with restaurants to hold wine dinners. They also are active in the community, supporting non-profits and working community events. They also have a delivery service, although we've never taken advantage of it. At the end of the day, G&G provides superb customer service and makes you feel like you are part of the family. They have a more limited selection than the warehouse stores, but to be honest, I have never had a problem finding what I wanted. Love this place. Highly recommend. read more

Spent several minutes looking for something specific while the 3 employees walked by us, chatted with each other loudly, and completely ignored us. After reading the stellar reviews of Grapes & Grains, I was super excited to check it out for myself - and I decided Valentine's Day was the perfect opportunity since they were doing a wine and cupcake pairing for patrons, gratis. Adorable, right? But cupcakes and free booze aside, this place is absolutely spectacular! The trip from Providence to Barrington is totally worth it - you will not regret making a special trek to come to this shop. My first stop was their wall of whiskeys - a great selection, indeed with everything from fantastic scotches such as Scapa to one of my favorites, Redemption Rye. There's even a few I had never heard of, and everything is very well-priced. I then moseyed further down the wall, and glanced over their stock rums, vodkas, and a very nice line-up of gins. Everything is really well curated and reasonably priced. I then moved on to their wines, which take up most of the store and range in price from under $12 to not cheap - there is literally something for everyone at every price point. There's even a little reserve room with very special bottles. I'm impressed with what they have in there. Lastly I made my way over to the gloriousness that is their beer selection - it truly is something to behold. Not one, not two but THREE varieties of Allagash - including Allagash Black in a 4-pack! They have a great selection of craft brews I've not seen anywhere, and while it isn't huge by any means, again it is really well-curated. Every staff person I met during my visit was friendly, helpful and most importantly, well-informed. I never would have tasted let alone purchased or known exactly what to eat with the lambrusco I picked up, but now I do! In the end, we went home with a bottle of Greylock Gin, Allagash Triple Brew 4-pack, and a gorgeous bottle of wine for just under $60. Fabulous! read more

I absolutely love this place. I was skeptical when I heard about it and figured it would be full of slightly above average offerings at outrageous prices due to the location. I mean let's be honest, Barrington isn't a cultural melting pot from diverse economic backgrounds. I was happily proved wrong!!! This place is great. They have a really wide selection of spirits at all price-points and they have an area reserved for special and harder to find items. A GREAT craft beer selection and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I asked about a specialty vodka and they didn't carry it but they went to great lengths to find it's availability and are going to see about getting some for me. That doesn't sound like much but the last 3 stores I went to said "No, what we have is right there". What I love about the craft beer selection is much of it is refrigerated. So you can stop, grab something decent and move along to your next drinking event. I'm really tired of seeing nothing but Bud, Miller and Sam Adams in the cold section. Some stores might have ShockTop in the cooler to represent 'craft beer'. Yeah.... So whether you're a soccer mom who needs to dull the reality of your Stepford Wife life or just somebody who needs a good selection and wants to avoid Rt6, hit up Grapes and Grains. read more

My husband and I checked this place out based on the other Yelp review. This place is great and keeps pace with the Barrington clientele. We happened to walk in right as the store was offering a beer sampling, and the guy who was running the show was personable, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. The only downside for me is it's a heck of a drive for craft beer, but the selection is good and having the craft brews refrigerated is hard to come by elsewhere. read more

Grapes & Grains your Groupon lured me out of my comfort zone of the PVD and over the bridge to Barrington. I'm pretty happy I went. The staff at G&G was extremely helpful and super nice. The gentleman who ran the tastings was very informative and chatty. I got to try a few different types of liquors and liqueurs which i'd never experienced before and he gave us suggestions on how to make them into cocktails and even gave us the recipes of what we tried. I was pretty impressed by the craft beer section. They have a pretty big refrigerated section for craft beer as well. We ended up picking up a wine which was suggested by one of the helpful ladies who worked there. We will most definitely be back. read more

I reeeeeally like Grapes & Grains. It's a classy little spot with an excellent wine selection, great beer choices and all of your favorite liquors and spirits. They offer weekly beer and wine tastings and occasionally they feature specialty tastings paired with light bites. The newest feature in the store is fresh bread from Foremost Baking Co. on Saturdays which is such a genius idea to me! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and are always willing to engage in a little educational chit chat about a certain product. Grapes & Grains is perfect for a quick stop on the way to a cookout, restocking your bar cart, or even assembling a stellar gift basket to give someone. read more

I finally got a chance to get here to do some holiday shopping after seeing Grapes and grains at Merry Market place. It was great! I brought the best wine to the party and had the best secret santa gift thanks to the help of the staff! Also the gifts I made in the special boxes came out looking real classy; looked like a $60- 80 gift when it was only $35.00. You could tell they sell quality products and wine. I absolutely love this place, and won't go anywhere else for wine :) Every single time I've gone in, I've been so politely greeted, and love their newsletters. Having just moved to the area, it was actually one of my first stops when I moved into my new house, and I felt warm and welcomed. It took Barrington a long time to get a liquor store, but they have a good one in Grapes and Grains. It's not a large store, but they have put a lot of thought into their inventory. They have items that fit every budget. I really appreciate that the high end items aren't locked up or in an inaccessible room. That really ticks me off. If I want to spend a lot of money on an expensive bottle, I want to be able to look at it without being guarded by an employee. Grapes & Grains is a great addition to Barrington. After being "Dry" for way too long the politicans finally came to their senses and the people of Barrington can enjoy a top notch business like Grapes & Grains! I frequent the friday night tastings and often find my self purchasing the guest of the night. Also the staff have great recommendations and I have tried many new beers and ryes based solely on their reviews.
