I've used many electricians over the years, some good and others not very knowledgeable or relyable. But McGuire Electric really impressed me, starting with their immediate response for my request for a quote to replace our water damaged electical panel, right through to the timely completion of the job. What I find most important for an electrician is the ability to provide expert advise on what options to consider and what should be done and why. Doing the job right the first time can save significant cost down the road as a result of short sighted electrical planning. We only had 100 amp service and wanted to eventually finish our basement. McGuire pointed out that we should invest in a larger breaker panel and 150 amp service. McGuire doesn't cut corners or give you lowball pricing to get your business. Everything is done exactly to code or better. For example, we needed proper grounding and even a riser on the back side of the house to raise the above ground electrial feed wire to a required safe height of 12 ft. It was attached only 8 ft on the side of the house leading out the the pole. I found McGuire Electric pricing to be very fair and reasonable and their estimate was what I finally paid with no surprises. I now have my go-to electricians! From start to finish, working with McGuire was the best contractor experience I've had. Based on reviews I called their number and had a great, frank conversation about the work I needed. He didn' t sugar-coat it, as I needed a dedicated circuit run from basement to attic in an older home. We set up time for an estimate and it went like clockwork. Calls ahead of time, arrival on time, clear and polite explanations of what they could do and how they'd do it, ending in a not-to-exceed estimate. Gary and Richard arrived to do the job and called ahead, arrived on time, and completed all the work in a few hours. Specifically they ran a new 20amp circuit from basement to attic, installed a bathroom fan/heater unit, added another bathroom outlet, and replaced/rewired all the switches for that bathroom. Even wired up 2 light fixtures I requested while they were there. And best of all they were able to do it for WELL below the not-to-exceed estimate! Have worked with a handful of the guys on staff, but special mention goes to Jason and Fred. Jason is great at communicating what is going on, any bumps that come up, and is happy to answer any questions. Time and time again, these guys prove they want to keep our business! Most recently, we had some recessed lighting installed in two rooms. There were a couple of small issues that came up due to the way our house was built in the 60's... no big deal in the end but Jason and Fred took extra care while giving us what we wanted. In January I had a small fire in my downstairs bathroom. The fire department came and decided the fire hadn't spread to the inside of the walls, but definitely an electrician needed to solve the problem. I called McGuire Electric and an electrician came to the house. Dave was wonderful. He was knowledgeable, patient with explaining the problem and the solution, and had the problem fixed in a very short period of time. I knew if I had another problem, McGuire Electric would be the company I would call. I didn't realize I would be calling them so soon as the January incident, but in April, during the ice storm, my tree limb hit my electrical wire. When the power came back four days later, some outlets and switches wouldn't work. Jay came out to fix the problem. Our usual electrician was suddenly unavailable, so we searched for electricians in the area who could help us out in a hurry. We luckily found McGuire Electric! Gary (electrician) came out quickly to install 3 ceiling fans for us. He did an excellent job and was obviously knowledgeable and cared about his workmanship, which is not easy to find these days. We also had a problem the following day with flickering lights in a bathroom, so we called McGuire and spoke to Mick (owner). Gary again came out and found the problem immediately. He fixed it in very little time and again displayed a great work ethic, taking time to make sure all was well in a very reasonable amount of time. When I called McGuire's to see about them coming and doing a couple of very minor jobs, I spoke with the owner, Mack. He was very polite and courteous and took time to explain a couple of things patiently that I had questions about. It was immediately apparent he was a good person and well worth giving a shot! The tech, Matt, called before arriving and stated he would be there in 15 minutes, which he did. He was nice to talk with and explained things very well before starting anything. Despite coming upon 2 (TWO!) glaring, bone-head, possible man-card-revocation-inducing "oversights" on my part, he was very cool about it.. He could have charged me a bunch of money, which I would have willingly paid, but they let me slide on it and then finished the other project. First, the response from these guys is second to none! The owner, Mick, kept in constant contact until the crew came to our house. Second, the work that was done was extremely thorough, right down to matching the light switch color in the bedroom where we added a ceiling fan where there never was anything before. Jay, Gabe, Devin, and I think Randy, were very professional, friendly, accommodating, and even cleaned up after themselves! They also went to great lengths to protect all of the furniture in our living room when they were adding recessed lights there. We have used other contractors in the past for various things, but the customer service from Mick and his team far surpasses any we have ever experienced before! Great job guys! I was nervous about having my service work completed by an electrical contractor. The scope of work that I was in need of was both necessary and cosmetic. After having spent 40 hours labor on completing an exterior stone project on my home, I had exterior power lines that were in need of updating and properly affixing to stone exterior. Mick sent 2 of his HIGHLY PROFESSIONAL men over and FAR EXCEEDED even my vision of this completed job- I happen to be a Stone/marble man with 20 years experience. I was having no luck finding an electrician and finally found Mike McGuire. He showed up on time for our quote appointment, walked through my to do list, answered all my questions and provided a quote that day. I had a deadline to get the work done before I was having some carpentry work done and Mike as very accomodating getting it done. The men that came to do the work were polite, professional and cleaned up everything when the job was complete. One item on the list ended up taking a lot longer than orignially anticipated do to some unforseen roadblocks behind the plaster. Outstanding! Living in Ferndale in a 1920's built house there are always little problems. This past Wednesday we had a situation where two outlets in the kitchen stopped over night. We did a search for electricians and started calling those closest to 9 & Livernois. Was getting quite discouraged after the first 8 called either didn't have time or didn't answer the phone. Called first thing in the am to ask about a small electrical job. I needed a few outlets installed on the back of the house, one for an electric gate that was going in soon. Without much guidance other than the yelp reviews I called them and within 90 min I had someone out to do a quote. It was reasonable and i was even given the option to have someone out later the same day to complete. Had a great experience with McGuire. We added a ceiling fan to our 1941 bungalow and had to relocate the light box. They were able to come out same day and did a great job setting up the fan. The price was a bit higher then quoted because they had two guys come out but without us even asking, the guys returned after the job to ensure we were satisfied with the price. I was having a new dishwasher installed and was told they could not install it until the electrical outlet was updated. Turned out I needed 2 outlets one for the dishwasher and one for the wine fridge (per code). I had McGuire Electric come out on Jan 5, 2022 and they were wonderful. We bought an old house with a lot of interesting amateur repair work.. And "interesting" and "amateur" are not words you want your inspector to use describing the electrical in your new house! What I thought would be a simple job turned a bit more complex. Dave from McGuire explained the issue with my Berkley house's old wiring (from the 1940's) saying it was too dangerous to reinstall the outlet since in the years the wire's insulation actual burned away... it was literally a bare wire in the cement wall. We discussed options, then Dave installed new conduit and plug jiffy quick. He also gave me some sound advice for future renovations I'm considering for the house.
