Walked in 9:45 am, was warmly greeted and welcomed. I knew in an instant it was old school charm and class. Offers a handshake... "hi I'm Marty Meldrum" Looked at my sockets, assessed the trouble. 3-way $18 Single $15 I inquire how many days? Would you like a deposit? Niether if you've got 10-12 minutes, I'll get done now. ( I told him I was from Utica) Or he's that good? Sat in my car as not to hover. Less than 11 minutes later he comes outside waves me in. Showed me the finished repairs. Suggested some high quality, low heat plastic bulbs. ( yes plastic bulbs well I'll be!) I asked how long has this place been around? M&M 75 years shortly! I most recently took a lamp over to have a shade fit. They are very knowledgeable in pairing size and shape of a lampshade to the type of lamp you have. Last year, I also brought them a 1930's lamp where the pull chain mechanism had frozen up. In searching through their comprehensive supply of vintage parts, they actually found an original 1930's part to replace The one in the lamp, so that it matched its mate. Everyone there is very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would highly recommend using them, as quality shops like this are going to vanish if we don't patronize them.

During the estimate, their representative was knowledgeable, friendly, and open to all our questions about the company and the work we needed. Scheduling was clear, and they fit us in faster than any other company we contacted. Their pricing was also very competitive compared to other local companies we'd reached out to. The work itself was solid. Our wood floors are at least 30 years old--probably older--so while they don't look brand new, they look *great*. The team worked consistently and made repairs where needed. If you expect decades‑old flooring to look brand‑new, you might be better off installing a completely new floor. My only hesitation was communication with the crew leader during the project. The job took about five days, and on the first day they arrived several hours late. The roads were snowy and unplowed, which is understandable, but there was no communication about the delay. I also never heard any updates as the project went on throughout the week unless I chased after them. A little transparency goes a long way. But hey--they offer functional flooring, not functional communication. Jokes aside, I'd hire them again.

We hired Functional Floors to refinish the hardwood floors in our new home and install new wood in…read moreareas where there was none. Unfortunately, what should have been a straightforward project turned into a very disappointing experience involving poor communication, questionable decisions made during the work and a finished product that required multiple attempts to fix. Throughout the project, decisions were made by the crew without asking us how we wanted things handled. Those decisions resulted in visible filler, patched areas, and other issues in our newly refinished floors that required them to come back out and attempt repairs. For a project of this size and cost, we expected much better attention to detail and communication. When we raised concerns, the crew lead who originally did the work was confrontational and not helpful in resolving the situation. Another lead eventually came out to review the issues, but by that point there was only so much that could realistically be done to fix the problems. Communication with the office was also frustrating. Emails frequently went unanswered and we had to call multiple times just to get responses. At times it felt like the focus was more on making the issue go away rather than properly addressing the quality of the work. We even reached out afterward about repairing a scratch made by our cleaners (which we offered to pay for), and they never followed up with us to schedule the repair. What makes this especially disappointing is that we had used Functional Floors before and had a great experience, which is why we hired them again and even recommended them to a friend (who also had a poor experience and lots of re-work). This project cost us over $15k and the level of workmanship and service fell well short of what we expected. Many of these issues likely could have been avoided with better communication, attention to detail, and a more professional approach to addressing customer concerns.

I've been here to look around…read morehoping to get inspired for projects, but there's usually too much not-good stuff to dig through before getting inspired. There's doors and fixtures and all other kinds of things you would expect. There may be something that's just what you needed, but I wouldn't expect a good price. The last time I came though I was looking to find some old hardwood for my floors. My floors are incredibly old, so I wanted some older wood to match both the quality and color change of my floors to patch up some bad spots. The guy who helped me didn't know the difference between the different types of woods and what to look for. We spend a long time looking and standing around before someone else freed up to help. They also didn't have anything more than ten or so years old, which is not their fault, just the inventory at the time, though most stuff seems to be only twenty years old or newer. So I wasn't able to get anything that actually did match but it was better than nothing. The price also isn't great. I had to make two trips for two different types, and for my second batch, the price got higher because it was a different kind of wood. Okay fine, that makes sense, but it's not documented anywhere so I just have to believe them, and I didn't get why it cost just as much as new wood. I know there's something about retrieving and processing when it comes to actually "reclaimed" wood, but I just couldn't see it with this. I probably won't be back unless I get desperate for something old again.

People are saying there is less selection than HD or Lowes, but when it comes to actual hardware, Frentz has a lot more. A huge part of my life for the past 35 years actually.
