Couldn't see anything) and traipsing around in a "haunted" house that was structurally unsound. Steve kept saying everything was cool bc he's in the Chamber of Commerce. He's not. The tour was supposed to be a birthday surprise for me and wound up being one of the worst days of my life. Run. Run FAST.

We drove my in laws the 1.25 hours to the museum and learned so much about Amelia Earhart. There was so much information I didn't know. My in laws were so impressed with the setup and how the museum is laid out. If you have kids, I definitely recommend! While there isn't a whole lot right around the museum, it's worth the visit to learn more about KS native. If you're coming from OP, we drove home through Weston to grab lunch and it turned out to be the perfect day trip.

This incredible museum is located in the middle of vast flatland of Kansas, adjacent to an old…read moreairport in memory of the legend Amelia Earhart. We drove about hour and a half from downtown KC to get here. The museum is a beautiful modern building with lots of parking spots in front. Super clean and well maintained. At the entrance hall, they have the reception (to purchase tickets), the gift shop and a small open theater where a video of Amelia plays on loop. The inside hall of the museum is so stunning. First of all there's an exact model of the aircraft Amelia flew to cross the Atlantic. There are also sections dedicated to Amelia's life and her achievements. There are also display of diesel engine and modern turbo engine, a tiny cockpit to simulate flying, and a small auditorium that played movie about aviation. A smaller upper level corner also had display of Amelia's tools, her diary and a section about her disappearance. We had an amazing experience, spending over an hour at the museum. The staff members were knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting stories and facts about Amelia during the visit. The gift shop had lots limited editions items such as compass and coins. I bought a few of them as souvenirs. The restrooms at the facility are also very clean.

(Technically it's no longer exactly THE bullet hole since over the years, before becoming a museum, people have picked at it taking pieces as souvenirs. It's still more or less the hole though.) Moved from its original location it now sits beside the Patee House Museum . . . . which is also worth seeing. There's also an interesting (macabre) exhibit detailing the exhumation of Jesse's grave to once and for all lay to rest (see what I did there?) the rumors that this wasn't Jesse James and he lived for many more years eventually dying of old age. It's just like I remember it - small and touristy. They've got several artifacts from the era, and you can see the hole in the wall where Jesse James was shot. That part's neat. In my opinion, they could do better to restore the house to how it looked at the time and move the articles, artifacts, pictures, clutter, etc. off the walls and place them in a separate facility (if they had one available). I think that would make it a little more authentic. For $4, though, it's not a bad place to stop and link in to a small part of St. Joseph and U.S. history.

Sound and picture were great. The seating, carpet, paint all looked brand new. Very clean and fresh. Popcorn was good. You add your own salt and butter. Small was pretty small but it was a good size for us. Drinks were Pepsi products and the smallest size was a medium. Tickets were on sale inside so we bought tickets and snacks together. When I reserved the limo I was asked for the name of the restaurant (they never asked for an address) and they got lost getting their making them kids late for their reservations and late arriving at Prom. They wanted to charge us more money for THEM getting lost and the owner was a complete JERK about the condition of the limo and the ruined dress.
