My daughter waterskiing on her knees.
    Vanessa C.

This past summer we took the kids for a quick getaway in Lake Arrowhead. A friend recommended we do a water ski lesson with the kids. We had a blast! The crew was so nice and helpful. My husband went first and after a few attempts he was waterskiing and had so much fun. My daughter went next. As a newbie, she flowed the instructions and after 4 or 5 attempts she was able to pull herself on her knees on the water board. She said it was amazing and she was super excited. I was nervous because a few times she fell in the lake and we had to circle around. However the boat driver was really great in telling her not to worry and we threw her the line and she was back up in no time. If you have kids, this is definitely something that is worth your time and money. The hour does go quick so extra time is highly recommend. At the end of lessons, they give you a nice trip around the lake which is beautiful in the summer.

Jeremiah our boat driver and Camden our instructor were absolutely amazing with our party of 9. They answered all of our questions and helped all of our 4 kids during their turn in the water. Camden somehow convince our smallest child (5) to also try it out. She got out, fell, got scared but couldn't stop talking about it after Karis, well she's a pro at everything. She joked with our kids, kept the mood light so the kids can feel comfortable and worked her tail off the entire time we were there (3hrs)! I don't think i ever saw her take a sip of water or catch her breath! Overall we are happy with our adventure here at McKenzie ski school and definitely will be back best summer !

He's five and they got him right up!

Listen, if you have the funds, get on the skis. The crew is fun and will get you skiing in minutes! Holly wants you to have a great time and will customize a package. We booked one hour lessons and one hour w/out instructor. Perfect amount of time for 3 people and great to see the lake. I recommend this for good ol'family fun!!

Excellent experience. The entire staff was all around helpful and enthusiastic and genuinely stoked that my 10 year old got up during his first lesson. Everyone congratulated him and made him feel special. I don't know how I would have taught him so quickly without these guys. Let's go!

Christian was great working with my 3 kids especially with it being their first time learning to water ski and knee board.

Unfortunately Covid rules prevented side by side instruction in the water but our captain Christian gave clear instructions before leaving dock and from the boat when in the water. He was very encouraging we all had so much fun. Although my kids had trouble staying up on the skis he motivated them to try knee boarding which had better outcomes. Great first time experience for all my kiddos. Highly recommend.... staff was friendly and Holly was great at helping me book the right package to fit our needs. Hoping to return one day to get in the water together when the restrictions get lifted. Thank you for the fun morning McKenzie Ski school!!! SKI YOU LATER!

So, so amazing! Both my kids aged 7 and 9 got up on their first try! They/we were so proud. The instructors are so patient and make sure the kids have a great time. Each time up and back on the lake is about 15min. They take a rest stop on the way back which provides a 2nd opportunity to practice getting up. Neither of them fell as each time the come to boat wakes the instructor holds on to their arm so they don't fall. I would highly recommend. My kids wanted to go back the next day but I had already spent $240 for an hour of instruction plus tip so sadly they didn't get to go again.

This was the highlight of our trip! We were lucky enough to have Cole as our driver and Riley as our instructor/magician. Cole was great to talk to and made it fun for my husband and I while we were on the boat. Riley was amazing! We took my daughter out first and our sweet girl was like Bambi on ice. She was all over the place and Riley kept her up! He had her laughing even though it was such a hard workout. My son went next and he had a blast! He was even able to move him outside of the wake. We loved this and would highly recommend the crew here! Be sure to take video! We are stills laughing!

This was the first time water skiing for my 3 children, ages 6, 9 and 12 and they had a blast and did so great! I really cannot say enough about the experience and the great guys working there, namely Kyle and Cole! They explained everything thoroughly and made the experience so enjoyable. Kyle was awesome at anticipating each wave and making sure the kids were comfortable and having a ton of fun! And Cole was so awesome driving the boat and pulling the kids safely! Can't say enough about how much fun they had and how awesome the guys were!

Absolutely amazing service from start to finish (owner - blond lady), very professional, friendly and funny. We hired the 30 min trip for 4 of us, we had an absolute blast. Josh was a great guy/guide. Would wholeheartedly recommend paying the $80 for 30 mins especially with 4 / 5 of you together. The slow boat for $18.50 per person pales in comparison in relation to quality and seeing the whole lake. Guys you made our 2 day trip to Arrowhead very very special. Many thanks.

    Susan C.

My girls are ages 10 and 15 and had never been waterskiing. Both kids had a blast and were up and waterskiing on their second try. The instructors Cole and Josh were friendly and professional. The lesson includes a brief land instruction and then you are ready for the water. The instructors will ski right next to you to give you real time feedback. The course is 2 miles for each person, which took about an hour for the three of us when you include the time to switch skiers. My youngest daughter loved holding up the flag whenever a skier fell. We will definitely be back!

Can't say enough good things about McKenzie's Ski School. Our kids have been cooped up at home since March and a week in Arrowhead was just what we needed. Holly was amazingly responsive and helpful with booking our boats and even helping me with other aspects of our vacation. Mitchell, Asher, Tyler, and Christian were all incredible with our kids and made sure we had the best time. All of the captains adhered to very strict safety rules. We had a blast and can't wait to come back!

My sisters and I learned to water ski here over 40 years ago. So of course when my girls needed to learn, we would come back to McKenzie's. The owners and instructors are still as friendly and helpful as ever. This was the highlight of our week here in Arrowhead. I would recommend this to anyone whoever had any desire to learn to water ski. Both kids got up right away and were skiing on their own by the end of their first lesson.

Our kids were ages 4, 5, 12 and 13. It is pretty expensive but well worth the money. Everyone here is really friendly and patient. All of the kids in our group were first-timers with water skiing. I couldn't believe they got the little ones on their feet so quickly. All the kids in our group were totally scared and the workers did such an awesome job with helping our kids lose their fear and enjoy water skiing. I felt completely safe, having my five year old son out there in the water with the instructor. I'm totally shocked how the instructor was able to stay balanced while holding our wobbly kids in place. This place really made the weekend here a blast. Most of the businesses in Arrowhead are so rude to vacationers, but not here. I can't remember everyone's name, I know the boat diver was Tio. He was very cool. We came in on this Sunday. Thank you to everyone there!!

They're pretty thorough about checking waivers, which I appreciated for safety. The snow play space is small with a short slope, but they provide a bunch of plastic sleds, so it's still fun to mess around. I just wish tubing was included for the price. The staff was super welcoming and attentive, checking in on the area often. Overall a good time, especially for kids or a quick snow day activity.

The fact that some people can be A-holes isn't what bothered me, what bothered me is the incredibly slow and lackadaisical response from the staff. The attendant from the lift was doing her best to separate them while I watched 1 staff member slowly walk over. Second, and this was the most troubling, was the lack of attention to beginner-level skiers on lift 2. My wife took our 6-year-old, first-time skier on to lift 2 while I followed right behind. We both let the attendant know it was his first time on the lift to which she just responded "chase the chair and you'll be fine". As the chair came around I watched my son almost fall off the seat. My wife and I both yelled stop as she pulled him back on. Without even turning to look, the attendant nonchalantly said "he's fine, he was on". When we reached the top of the lift, there was no assistance to help them and they ended up taking a big fall off the chair, both hitting their heads and my wife injuring her tailbone. They stopped the lift just long enough to get them to the side before resuming again. They let us know in the future we should give them a thumbs down on the approach and they'll slow down the lift. It would have been REALLY nice if the attendant at the bottom of the hill had let us know that. As we gathered ourselves on the benches, we watched beginner after beginner fall as soon as the chair pushed them forward. Often times there were 4-5 people on the ground, creating obstacles for other skiers to avoid as they exited the lift. Several times we watched the exiting skiers fall over previous skiers that weren't able to clear the area. All this to say, the concern for safety and level of professionalism left a lot to be desired and we do not plan on returning.

They had a fantastic session with Cris Gallardo. They found him to be helpful, attentive to their needs, and easy to work with. Meanwhile, my daughters and I enjoyed base camp. The wristbands for unlimited 'adventure' activities is a fair price. We also packed our own picnic lunch and had a lovely afternoon. We had last visited Snow Summit two years ago and I was worried that now as young teens, they would find the activities too babyish, but they really enjoyed the climbing wall, euro jumpy, and zip line. Before heading home, we enjoyed ice cream cups from the gift shop. I was also happy that the bathrooms (by the zip lines) were very clean. I will also add that we visited on a Friday in mid-July, and it was not crowded at all.

There was free parking that was easy to find and gear up at. This particular location doesn't feel large and since it was kind of sunny and a weekday, I think a lot of the trails and some of the lifts were shutdown during my visit. Not a big deal at all since my goal was to avoid large weekend crowds and shake off my personal cobwebs and just enjoy myself at my own speed. Getting my pass ready at the entrance using my phone, emails, and the app was pretty straightforward. Once I got that situated, I was able to start making my way to the first main lift and head up. The crowds during a weekday (early 2/2026) were so small, I was able to take my own chair up without having any traffic behind me. I can't speak for experienced skiers and snowboarders since even a decade ago, I would consider myself a solid intermediate snowboarder (that didn't do any tricks) and I will say it's a solid resort especially what I was looking for. I was able to go down the trails and constantly go up the lifts so quickly and my muscle memory all started coming back albeit with a few minor spills. After a while, I wanted to grab a beer and make my way over to Big Bear since I had the pass that allowed me to experience both parks. Definitely a solid snow resort that isn't too intense and is great for the proximity of people who live in the LA/ IE area.

tl,dr: Experienced much false hope with Mt Baldy…read more + I had obtained a free all-day ski ticket to Mt Baldy. I was ecstatic. [img 1 of 4] Sat, Mar 7 -- When I finally make plans to go, the resort closed. Not just that, they (unintentionally) pulled a bait and switch a couple times. My complaint isn't the weather. My complaint is the repeated false hope from their announcement approach. Seeing how bad the weather had been, wish they had just announced early that they will not open the next day, well before the dilettantes had already gone out and rented ski gear the day before. Save me the trouble of repeatedly refreshing their mountain report webpage every hour beside my expensive snowboard rental eagerly waiting to shred. - "WIND HOLD - UPDATE AT 10AM" For a while it had already been well past 10AM and no update yet... - "We are planning to open Chair #1 at 11AM ... with full operations by 12PM" almost made me start the ~2hr drive to their resort already. Imagine the infuriating waste of gas that would've been. - "Snow Play will be open Saturday" Sounds like an assurance... - Finally! Around 1pm, "Closed Due to High Winds". ¡No me digas! - lol below that, still "Snow Play will be open Saturday"... Unfortunately we will not be open" Again?? Mer alors! + Silver lining: Thank you Mt Baldy at least for notifying me before I already started driving up the mountain. - "we're still hopeful!" (at this point, ) lol suuure -- "bring any unused tickets to the mountain for a gift card" ....uhhh what? After EVERYTHING, I'm now being encouraged to drive allll the way up to the mountain?? Gas prices must be an all-time low these days... [3/4] -- Prepaid parking disappointment. Their website kept saying "Please select at least one rate type to continue", so I kept selecting the single parking ticket rate, but the website wouldn't relent. - Occasionally it'd give me a tease by loading a new page... only to reveal "Not Confirmed" or "404 Page not found". . Note: I eventually realized by "rate" the website meant to buy an actual ski ticket, meaning you can't buy a parking ticket without buying a ski ticket... Well that defeats the purpose of a free ski ticket, innit? (lol I did slang in Spanish, French, and British) - lol so much for the online marketing tease "prepaid parking is discounted!" [4/4] Wed Dec 3 - Their email correspondence seems to have technical difficulties. After 5 days without response, I tried again. ~ Finally, 13 days since my thumb-twiddling had begun, they finally get back to me. Kinda. The lift tickets and rentals are significantly cheaper than the bigger resorts in the area but you will need to book both online in advance. You can also book parking in advance and it is cheaper to do so. I wish there was more information on the website to tell us what to expect. So here is my experience. Once you arrive at the parking lot, they will ask for payment. If you have booked in advance, you just tell them and they will wave you through. Just follow the staff's directions to park. We arrived at about 8:30am on a Saturday morning and there was plenty of parking available. You will then walk up a short but steep hill into the check-in hut. At this point, the will request that you fill in a waiver, which you should fill in online prior to arrival to speed up the process. You only need to fill this in once per season. Then you will be handed your parking ticket (for proof when you exit - but no one checked, as well as your lift ticket. You will be directed to the sugar pine chairlift #1, which is about a 20 min ride up to the resort area. This was probably the coldest part of the trip in the morning as the sun had yet to reach into the valley and the wind was quite strong. Once we got up onto resort level, we headed to the right which was the renal hut. The rental fitting process was quite smooth. You had to complete a form to, and when it's your turn, you hand the form to a member of staff who would send the relevant size to you. You start with the ski boot and then skis (or board). While you are waiting, you can grab helmets off the shelves in the waiting area. The last piece of equipment would be your poles (if needed) as you exit). On the day we went, the snow was packed powder and pretty good to ski on. As the day wore on, it got a little slushy in places but still very nice to ski on. It was quite warm and there were people who removed their jackets. The trails are not well marked so we spent quite a lot of time staring at the map. Turns out we went onto a wrong trail at one point! There were barely any lines at the lifts, nor was it super crowded, so we could get our runs in quite quickly. On the other hand, there isn't a wide variety of beginner runs. As for food, well, the food is standard ski lodge food - not great and quite expected. There was a line but unlike other ski resorts, we were able to get seating pretty quickly and the line was not too long. I imagine it could get worse in peak season when you have more folks coming up for snow play. So maybe bring some food. Talking about bringing food, there aren't any lockers for your valuables. We were told we could leave our bags in open cubbies. I carried my bag since I wanted water on my, but in hindsight, since the mountain wasn't big, I could have left it and just carried my wallet and phone. Overall, it was a lovely first experience skiing here. I would like to check it out in peak season when there's more traffic to see how the infrastructure handles the crowds. It's really nice to be able to ski without my toes and fingers freezing up or waiting in long lines.

This was my first visit to Mt. High this year, and I have to say I was a little disappointed. I…read morecame on a busy Saturday right after back-to-back SoCal storms, so I expected the resort to be packed -- and it was -- but it honestly didn't feel prepared for the crowd. One of the most-used lifts on the west side wasn't working, which caused a lot of congestion. Traffic getting into the resort was rough, and the transport buses from the east to west parking lots weren't operating. There was no announcement about this, so my friends ended up walking from east to west parking, which was frustrating. On top of that, we experienced a fireplace being out of gas. They eventually got it lit, but by that time it was late, really cold, and we were about to head out because our lift tickets had expired. Overall, the resort has potential, but I felt unprepared for the crowd and the logistics were poorly communicated. Hopefully, they can improve operations and better handle busy days in the future.

Arrived at 10 am. Still love it . My kids first time snow boarding. Rental and lift tickets all…read moreonline, including waiver. Fast friendly service to get the rental and they showed us how to put the snowboard on. We still get a seat at the cafetaria. Cool. Restrooms are okay. We kept going in and out of the store buying stuff coz its our retail therapy and we wanted to get some memorabilias. We bought total of 2 snow jackets (Dankin, Roxi), 1 Mt High sweater, 2 goggles, 4 face neck covers , 6 keychains. There were 4 employees, 2 women, 2 men. 1 of the men was a total d**k. When I bought the first pair of goggle the other male staff helped me find a different style for my son for the same price range. The second time I went back to get the second pair of goggle for my daughter, it was the other male staff who was super inpatient kept saying "theres no other one for her size," upset body language when I asked to cut the tag off and yelled "I can help the next one" before I was even done paying. Geez. Why you worked there I wouldnt even know. This passive aggressive poor customer service was a definite minus 2 stars. When I went to the ski patrol, inside was warmed and friendly stuff. I asked for my daughter to be helped going down the hill and they helped her with a sled. This was the solid 5 stars. Closer to 230 pm lots of drunk young men even fell on the ground in the cafetaria with his group laughing cursing obnoxiously to each other. No staff said nothing. Restrooms were absolutely disgusting at this point. It was snow storm. We were headed out by 3 pm and my Sienna, in the handicap parking space, was stuck. We parked in the $30 lot. The snow truck plowing all the snow in front of my car, and someone else parked behind my car. It was actively snow storming, and my son wanted to borrow shovel, and they took my phone as a guarantee we will returned the shovel. I saw other cars also struggling . My kids pushed the car and finally we were able to get out. Conclusion, dont go in snow storm, and I would stand up to that annoying staff in the store and told him off.
