4+ My recent visit in early 2/2026 was the first time I've been to area in over a decade and this was my second snowboarding excursion in the last decade as well...so I was a bit rusty. I spent my morning over at Snow Summit to get runs in and shake off the cobwebs. I had a free day during the week and drove up in the morning by myself. The cast that I purchased you access to both this part and Snow Summit so I had to at least get a few runs in here after lunch. There was free parking that was easy to find and gear up at. Like the other park, I feel like some of the trails and lifts were shunt down for the day. No biggie. It was not crowded at all. I don't have any scientific basis for this, but it feels like this park has a few more obstacles or is more friendly to some of the more seasoned folks that come through. Overall, my experience was pleasant. Even though I didn't spend a lot of time here since my body started getting tired. A fun park that isn't too far for people in the LA or SoCal area. Definitely a good experience when the park isn't crowded. read more

When you're heading up to Big Bear during the week where it has a lot of snow you know your in for madness. My son wanted to go tubing, which I was not opposed to so you book online the night before and lock your spot in. It's about $56 per person to tube which is a little steep but then again we're in the mountains so you pay for everything. Parking for the hill, getting to the hill, navigating the chaos on the hill. All the above is a mission on its own. Be prepared to wait, to walk, and to deal with the craziness. The employees they are cool, just overworked and I feel like there needs to be more than to navigate through the BS. Fun little place to go tubing and the run is pretty cool. Just be prepared to pay and struggle with the parking situation. Hire more people guys probably help you guys out tremendously. read more

Bear Mountain - Hey, it's a bear - Ski Resorts Near Me - Big Bear Lake, California

One of the degenerates got me. One of the reckless, likely intoxicated snowboarders I posted about in my previous review took me out, swerving/crashing into me, sending me crashing into the fence at the top of Chair 5, severely injuring my knee, hitting it on the steel fence pole at high speed. The snowboarder fled but I caught it all on my 360 degree camera attached to my ski pole. I was laying there in the wreckage with one of my skis like 30 feet away, in severe pain, clearly having just been in a bad accident, but everyone just kept going on by, not seeing if I needed help. Some floozies trying to flirt with me earlier just went right by me, acting like they didn't notice me on the ground, like "Sorry, we don't know you! Hehehe". Finally some little kid came up and asked if I needed help, then went to get ski patrol. Levi was the first to arrive on seen, checked on my injuries, and called additional ski patrol and security. Patrick and the security staff soon got there, and I told them what happened. Patrick gave me a ride down the mountain in the sled thing while security staff blocked any more snowboard lemmings from hitting us from behind. I didn't know how Patrick was going to get me down in the sled on the steep, crowded, mogul filled Central Park run, but he's highly skilled and did so with ease. Luckily Levi and Patrick are competent with technology and knew how to use my recently acquired 360 camera better than I did, and were able to pull the SD card and get and view the video file to search for the hit and run perpetrator. Huge thanks to them, and the security guy who drove me to my car parked in the far corner of the far front parking lot across the street, as I don't know how I'd be able to walk that far with my mangled knee. I'm following up with the higher ups to try to identify that reckless snowboarder before he kills somebody. He needs his pass pulled at the very least as he's a danger to everyone on the mountain. I'll post the video footage of the crash and aftermath. The hit and run snowboarder in question was wearing a light blue football jersey with number 33, black gloves with a white symbol on the face, black helmet with a Mammoth sticker on the front left, black backpack with a white curved design across it, goggles with a purple lens and with skulls on the black and white headband, black pants, black and white snowboard boots, black neck gator thing, dark colored snowboard, face covered but appeared to be pale/Caucasian, elbow pads, black sleeves, chest protector, shoulder pads, and some kind of stomach/torso padding. He had several near misses with others and myself right before hitting me and was either intoxicated or dumb as a rock, assuming this wasn't intentional. Bear Mountain is a great place for skiers and snowboarders to hit some terrain runs and enjoy jumps, twists, and tricks! It's easy to get to in Big Bear, so you can't beat the location... and they have some delicious food, drink, and coffee options available at the base area... and it's a relatively short walk to/from the parking lot! Unfortunately it also gets packed full of snowboarders. And for me many of the trails are just too short. I would rather spend my time skiing that waiting for the next lift or riding the lift. The good news is Bear Mountain is one of three mountains that you can access with your lift pass, so if it's too busy on the slopes, you can take the free shuttle down the street to one of the other mountains! ****FOUR STARS**** read more

What is a trip to Big Bear in the winter without checking out the slopes? Well, my family has never been to Big Bear, let alone ski Big Bear but that changed this year. We opt for an early Christmas trip (before the storm) to get to the Slopes. Hoped to checkout Snow Valley as heard it was geared more towards families and beginners, but it was not opened and opt to check out Big Bear Mountain instead. My son took snowboarding classes, and my Husband took ski class. We did the rentals at the mountain, and that was personalized per person. The only downfall is the one who helped my Husband told him not to get the ski poles, and luckily instructors were able to let him borrow some, as a beginner and for the class, they were clearly needed. While they each took the early class, the mountain filled up quickly as the beginner hill was PACKED for a Saturday. Your lift tickets are only good until 430pm, unless you purchase night tickets. However, after a few hours my family was exhausted, being their first time, it was a lot for them. The beginner lift is probably the most beginner friendly hill I've skied before. Highly recommend for those young ones or inexperienced, as much as I wanted to do their moderate lift, I did not feel comfortable leaving them by themselves. Would definitely like to come back when there is more snow. We were able to fit the 3 of us on one lift, and that was nice as a mom, I get anxious having my child ride by himself, as he was a snowboarder and us skiers - it is easy to get tangled on the lift or when getting off. Staff was not hesitant at all about shutting down the lift when safety was a concern, either getting on or getting off. Hats off to them. Big Bear was a couple $$$ more for our family than it would have been at Snow Valley and not sure why. It's been a while since I've been skiing, and left alone in California, but prices have definitely increased. They do have deals for kids 12 and under, which unfortunately, I missed having a teenager now who showed interest. I still think we would come back now that they have the basics down. Unfortunately, most of the food places were closed (only burger or fried chicken option were available) and it was quite busy so finding a place to sit outside was difficult or non-existence. The awesome part is there is plenty of places to store your ski/snowboard, especially when needing to use the bathroom facilities. read more

This place is not family-friendly at all. Don't waste your money or your time We had a very disappointing experience at the snow park. We spent almost $1,000 on passes for our entire family, and it was supposed to be a special day because it was our kids' first time seeing and playing in the snow. Our kids were just practicing and trying to get comfortable when security came over yelling and screaming at them, telling them to get off and stand on the cement. Instead of helping or guiding them, they were treated very harshly, which completely ruined the experience. For a place that families pay so much money to visit, there should absolutely be a designated kids' area where children can safely play and at least touch the snow--especially for beginners and first-timers. We expected a fun, welcoming environment for families, but unfortunately that was not our experience. read more

Staff: Most of the staff were amazing. The rental area had a guy named Tristan who was absolutely amazing. He was patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. A guy named Nathan was such a great instructor. He was friendly, supportive, and an all around great guy. Leonie in guest services was also amazing. Such a nice person with great customer service skills to assist with our questions. Now comes the concerning part. We were attempting to purchase half day lift tickets with a credit and Leonie who was amazing., gave us explicit instructions to come in at 11:45 to purchase them. This was totally fine. My wife arrived at 11:30 and asked for Leonie. She was approached by Viri who provided a VERY unpleasant experience. Our simple request to purchase a half day ticket became a very distasteful experience where she was disrespectful, rude, unprofessional, and condescending to my wife. First thing noticed was Viri's lack of a smile and an already annoyed look on her face. In a very snarky tone she responded with, "well it's not 11:45". Back story: There was an issue with the date of birth on the credit we received when we purchased tickets online. For security reasons, we opted not to use our real date of births as a name and a date of birth combined is considered "PII" aka personally identifiable information which can lead to an increase in risk for identity theft. This was particularly important as we had 2 minors with tickets. As experts in the industry we take necessary precautions. My wife told this to Viri and offered to have us show our drivers license to prove the tickets were ours. She said again in a snarky tone, "if your id doesn't match we cannot issue you the ticket with the credit" as anyone could claim to be the person. Oddly, I would find it very unlikely that another person who happened to be on the mountain had an id with my same name and picture conveniently at their disposal. Viri single handily created a very unpleasant experience for us and I would have rated it a 1 star. If not for the interaction with her I would have rated it as 5 stars. The amazing service by others mentioned above cannot go unmentioned. In the end we found Leonie who promptly directed my wife to someone to help us. They helped us with the very thing that Viri said she couldn't. Thank you Leonie! Value: The prices are what they are. Overall: This is a great place with a lot to do, lots of outdoor seating with a couple of fire pits, and plenty of good food options. I would say better than Mt High but big enough to have better runs, snow summit is a lil more family friendly while this park has a lot of fun boxes and toys to play on coming down the mt. I've been skiing all my life and this was my first time skiing at Big Bear. I rode on a van with Desert Snow Connection from the Phoenix area to come here. Most of my time was spent at this resort because Bear Mountain was closer to my hotel. But if you want to ski or board at nearby Snow Summit resort, they have free shuttles that run back and forth between both resorts. Bear Mountain (formerly Goldmine Mountain) is located in the San Bernardino Mountains in Southern California and was established in 1969. Even though there are less runs, I feel like I had more fun here at Bear Mountain than at Snow Summit. I spent most of my time going up and down the Bear Mountain Xpress lift. Park Run is a lot of fun to go down and I enjoy doing some jumps and hitting a couple rails. They also have a half pipe near the bottom. Overall I enjoyed this park and felt like a kid again going down most of these runs. There are food options and locker rentals in the resort area. read more

Came here on a Saturday after a storm for my first time ever snowboarding. We used one of the free parking lots with shuttles. We had a 9:15am beginner snowboarding class. Got there early enough for rentals/fitting, breakfast, and a little roaming. PARKING - if you can't reserve your front lot parking spot, don't fret. There are PLENTLY other lots you can park at with plenty shuttles going to and from. We parking around 7:30 at an outside lot and it was free and convenient. And yes, you can bring your ski/snowboard gear. Some buses have you bring them in, some have you put them in the side storage. Depends on the type of bus. LOCKER RENTALS - $10-$15/day. Very convenient, but the locker room was JAM PACKED and hectic when everyone was there EQUIPMENT RENTALS - super efficient in the morning and great flow. Even early in the morning, employees knew what they were supposed to do and kept things moving. And they really know what they're doing so I appreciated that as a new/first timer FOOD - it's alright. Disneyland-priced items with mediocre taste. But they get you through for before/after good snowboard/ski sessions. And if you're eating outdoors, BE SURE TO EAT QUICK or else your food becomes super cold super fast (unless you like cold food). I don't think I need to explain why :P SNOWBOARD LESSON - Did the beginner group lesson and had an AMAZING instructor, Becca. Was very considerate, didn't judge, and has a great attitude of how to approach snowboarding. And she was honest, YOU'RE GOING TO FALL A LOT. Would highly recommend her. There was another instructure guy that was helping us out towards the end and I wish I got his name. He was super helpful and really cool too. I've been coming here since the early 2000's and I still love this place as much as the first I came here. The people that work here are awesome and so friendly and excited about life. Two people in particular. Kellie in the ticket office was so cool and friendly and made the experience of buying a ticket easy. She answered my questions and was very professional. Also Cole, one of the freestyle team coaches. His stoke on life and being on the mountain is infectious and inspiring. Zero local discrimination from anyone up here. Great time with Dads & Son's trip with my close friends. The lines are too long (I guess timing is everything and depends when you go), at least when we have gone it hasn't been crowded, the snow has been nice and our kids had a blast on the mountains and we dad's had our good times at the lounge & patio bar area with drinks and good laughs and people watching . The pricing of lift tickets and drinks are through the roof, but other than that, it is a fun and safe place for beginner - Intermediate snowboarding and creating some memories with friends! read more

Big Bear most definitely caters to snowboarders more than any ski resort I've ever been to. That's great for snowboarders.. but what about me? As someone who sticks to the good ole ski's.... I would like to have a ski mountain near me that caters to skiers but... there is no such thing anymore... All ski resorts caters to snowboarders now even more so than skiers so it's almost making me wonder... why should I even try to go ski anymore ? Yes, Big Bear Mountain caters to advanced skiers as well with its black diamond and double black diamond runs. These runs vary in difficulty, from steep and narrow chutes to wide open bowls, ensuring that there is something for every advanced rider at the resort. However, what I think I'm missing more than anything is the apres-ski atmosphere... you know... Aspen style or Vail style or Mammoth style. I really really really miss that... and for that reason... I wish Mammoth was a lot closer or .. I wish that I could visit Aspen (my old stomping grounds) and find time in my schedule to make such a trip. read more

Great skiing but parking and drop off are complete and utter joke. It literally took 1 hour to get to the mountain just to do a drop off from the village - not parking just effin drop off. They make you go up through the exit which takes an hour instead of going straight up to drop off riders and skiers. Whoever coordinates parking and drop off at this resort should be fired. Bear Mountain needs to reduce capacity to be considered a good mountain. We've been going up here and there for years, and yesterday (2/10) was the absolute worst day from an administrative perspective (the snow was actually amazing). Let's start with the parking. Make sure to buy your $50 parking pass well in advance if you want to park within walking distance of the lifts. This is the first red flag. You have to spend half the price of a lift ticket just to park in what used to be the only lot. If you didn't pre-purchase, they have 4 lots where you get shuttled. Instead of filling the closest lot first, they send the "early birds" back down near Vons. While parking there is free - it's a muddy, unorganized, disaster. Now let's get to the shuttles. The shuttle lines are over half an hour long. That's once you've parked and walked a quarter mile to the shuttle line. The floor is muddy, people cut the line because BBMR is disorganized, and shuttles are cramped. The absolute worst part was that the shuttle going from Fox Farms to Bear was a 50 minute ride (not accounting for the line). The disorganization of this company is wild. Now the lines for the lifts. Once you get parked, brave the shuttles, and finally get to the mountain.... You're greeted with heavily impacted lift lines. Think you're going to spend time on the slopes all day? HA! You're mistaken. You'll be spending 30 minutes in line just to get the privilege of sitting on the lift to take you up. It was absurd. People were cutting (again). It was not fun. They need to implement measures to mitigate attendance. These lines are out of control, and it's just not fair to paying customers. Now let's get to the shuttles back to the lots. The staff were rude when asked where to go, the lines were, again, really really long, and the shuttles aren't even well kept. After waiting in line to board the shuttle, our shuttle BROKE DOWN (not a popped tire, it was a maintenance issue). The never ending saga of the day. We were stalled until another working shuttle could come rescue us. We had to unload with all of our gear and reload. This place just isn't worth the hype. It's an administrative nightmare. Yes it's pretty. Yes the renovations make it look nice. NO, it's not worth it. read more

Went snowboarding two weeks ago with my son. The snow was all man made but most runs were open. There were a lot of people on the slopes so lines were long for the lifts. Lift tickets are very expensive and they would not honor my military service for 25% off because I did not serve for 20 years before I got out. I guess honoring veterans is conditional. read more

Let's goo! La is the only place to snowboard and surf in the same day. With that in mind. The snow is not always the best. But! It is great for a day trip. They have great parks there so if you wanna up your game in the parks this is def the place for you. There are all different types of jumps and boxes and poll things that I forgot the name of but you know what I'm talking about if not...sorry. During snow storms there are tree areas you can go in and find amazing powder. Watch out for avalanche barriers. Do not cross those. There are also moguls. But as a snowboarder. I don't go on those. So skiers have fun! This resort is a chill one with fun tailgates and great people. This is more of a boarders resort. Tons of teens and college kids. But if you are with your family they are pretty good at only staying in the parks so if you have kids learning stay out of the park. I have an ikon pass so the tickets to me are a bit high. But if you only go once a year find an ikon pass member and ask for their fam and friends discount. Or just spend the money. It'll be worth it. The facility is a bit old. But still great. The food is normal ski resort food. But after a day of snowboarding everything tastes like fine dining. Only downside of this resort is parking. If you want to be at the upper lot you have to get there early af. But if you want a carefree day buy a day parking pass. If you have an ikon pass get a season pass unless you go during the weekdays. Weekdays parking is free. But don't worry if you are saving a few bucks ($40 right now) there are free lots at the bottom of the hill that bring you up by shuttle. Only thing is you have to gear up at the bottom and come up. The road is a bit twisty and turny so be careful and look up chain requirements. read more

It's good enough that I'm planning to buy the Ikon pass when it opens in a week or two, but if you're paying straight single-ticket prices the way I've been this season since I'm new to all this, do NOT go on a weekend. Did you read that correctly? I said DO NOT GO ON A WEEKEND. If you go on a weekend, and you find yourself waiting in line for literally (and yes, I'm using the word correctly here) 30 minutes just to get on the lift, don't come back here and act brand new. You had a warning. I went up on a Saturday and the crowd was so bad that even though I bought a $165 full day ticket like an absolute schmuck, I still wanted to leave at noon because I just couldn't take it. The weekdays that I've been up were much better. Everybody is pretty polite, and it's really cool to see the Adaptive ski school at work. I paid for a group lesson and my instructor (Christine or Christy, I can't remember) was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and tailored the lesson to the skill level of me and the other girl in the group. It felt more like we were getting a private lesson for the price of a group, which was cool. The price of the food is disgusting. I get that everybody does it now, but that doesn't mean it's okay. A tuna sandwich, chips, and a beer cost me $40. Which is my fault because I forgot to pack a lunch that morning. But I mean also, what in the greed-is-good Gordon Gecko BS is that? Did they catch that particular tuna by hand? Am I subsidizing the cost of hazard pay for the deep sea fishermen? Anyway, much better than Snow Summit if you're just starting out. And the green runs are longer and steeper than Snow Valley, which is great for learning. read more

Came here for lessons on MLK weekend. Our lesson was scheduled for 9:15 but due to traffic and crowds we were an hour late! I was extremely stressed having paid for 5 of us to get snowboard lessons. When I arrived I spoke to a supervisor (Giselle) . She interrupted as I was telling her what happened to say "This is a no stress zone, you can move your lessons to 11:15, you can rest at the tables while you wait, have some water buy some coffee. You don't need to worry" I just thought "WOW" I honestly was so relieved and she really was the beginning of an amazing day. Cris was our instructor and he was super cool and thorough. Taught is all of the fundamentals and was so patient. It was such an amazing overall experience. Worth every penny. We are officially snowboarders now! read more

I love the snow and the park is so nice to be outside with friends and family and I love it when the sun shines on the mountains

I'm a beginner and I prefer Snow summit even though bear mountain has wider green runs and fewer people. I went during MLK weekend and I truly cannot get over Easy Street was so flat in the middle. If you're not experienced enough, you're essentially stuck and have to skate all the way across to some form of a hill. Sometimes you might be going too fast and, if the snow is slippery and not icy, it's quite a scary experience and you'll fall on hard ground. The rentals area also had really long lines more than summit. I also find Snow summit more vacation-y like but it's quite compact so bear mountain is less crowded. I do recommend the pizza (near beginner area). They barely had lines!!! The restrooms near there are also much newer! There's a review down below that complained about call times. I 100% agree that the return/cancellation phone service is atrocious. I accidentally ordered rentals from the wrong mountain and I could not get a hold of them. I called three days in a row waiting on hold or giving them my phone number. Sometimes they call but I cannot pick up because I was in meetings and there was one time someone called and immediately hung up after a few seconds of ringing. It's incredibly inefficient because would I have to wait from the beginning again because I missed the call? The approximate wait times are also very off the mark. IT would say, 'approx wait time is 10 minutes' but it would keep getting longer and longer as you wait. At last, I finally reached someone and found out that I did NOT need to change my rental reservation because both snow summit and bear mountain are owned by the same company. But I was truly frustrated at how much time I've wasted and the anxiety that came from this because rentals are expensive and I don't want to needlessly wait in traffic b/w the two mountains! Dear big bear/alterra, PLEASE update your return/cancellation so that they can be easily changed online!!!! read more

Review for 12-27-2022. Been a home owner and pass holder in bb for over 15 years . This was the first time I went to the mountain and did not decide to snowboard. I got to the mountain 35 min early only to find out their 40 dollar overpriced parking spots are sold out. Their middle lot off moon ridge they do not park in until their lower lot is filled. Upon arriving to the lower lot after slinging mud all over my car and seeing hundreds of cars parked already I decided to leave. I did not want to sit around in the mud waiting for shuttle bus that would take 20+ minutes to get to the mountain. Bear mountain and snow summit needs to stop being so greedy with sucking more money for parking out of people . It is already expensive enough in the sport. They need to have ticket caps and fair warnings of all their current issues operating. I hope they get it together or our family cabin will turn into a Airbnb and we will find another mountain to call home . read more

It was my first time snowboarding, and as I was returning my rental boots, the staff directed me to place the helmet in the red bin and leave the boots on the podium. I wasn't aware that I wasn't allowed to sit on the stool while unlacing them. A few days ago at Bear mountain, I broke my elbow and had to be ski'd down in a sled for my first time. Although this wasn't an ideal situation, The Red Blur (Adam), with everything considered, made my experience comfortable and even somewhat enjoyable (lol). He made sure i felt comfortable and's consistently asked to make sure he was bandaging my arm okay. I felt safe in the sled and in the patrol room. Adam if you read this, you're awesome and i appreciate you for helping me feel better. read more

This was my first time snowboarding. I highly suggest buying your ticket online since it's covid they have a certain capacity. Sometimes tickets will sell out for the day. I also recommend renting snowboard, boots and stuff the day before so you can skip the wait the day of. My friends and I came right when it opened and it was already packed with people. Face mask is required but they do not enforce social distancing at all. To get there you can park at moonridge parking lot and take the shuttle. They do sell food, drinks and beer. There wasn't any good options and the price is decent. You can always pack your own food and they do have lockers. read more

Super cool place. The instructors were so great at giving us lessons. Worth the money. Glad we got there early with paid parking pass. Had to wait around awhile for the rental shop to open. We had lessons at 9 and they didn't open until 8:30. Glad we were 2nd in line to get fitted. Nice selection in cafe to eat but WOW is it expensive. read more

Holiday weekend and they didn't even plow the moutain. Such terrible conditions today. Such a waste of money. Seems like the new ownership just doesn't care. New Years weekend and none of the moutain was groomed. Never seen a Saturday morning were the slopes were not ready until now. Update the pizza place by the kids school that used to be one of the best places to eat has updated the prices. Last year a pesto pizza there special was 15 for a personal size 10 inch. Now the only options are full size and it's $49 for the pesto pizza WTF no wonder no one eats there anymore what a joke. Single slice of cheese pizza is $9 the pesto $12 Absolutely disgusting what has happened to Bear Moutain. New ownership sucks read more
