We contracted with McLain's to paint the interior of our three car garage. Our leader, Madelynn had her crew organized and efficient. Small things to us included the extra effort made cleaning up, no loud music and working a complete day. A special shout out to Joe who returned to do a little touch up and some sheet rock repair. Hired to stain a 300 square foot deck! Biggest mistake was hiring this very misleading company, claiming to be professional! The bottom line is that they contracted in writing to spray the deck floor for uniformity! Nothing but a 3 inch hand brush was used! No sprayer, no roller, no pad, etc. Didn't show up until after noon on any of the days they were scheduled to be here. We spent over 2 months on a waiting list. When it was finally time for our job, they couldn't have more than 1 person at a time working due to having too many jobs running consecutive! They are rude, argumentative, and incapable of accepting accountability for their mistakes! After weeks of fighting, they finally agreed to deduct 500.00 from the 2200.00 we were billed for! We agreed simply because these incompetent people couldn't be tolerated any further! You'll know by the pics that this job wasn't professional, nor worth what we paid. We'll still have to redo their mess! I definitely do NOT recommend this company at all! Save yourself the headache and turmoil! RUN read more

unfortunately, we did not get past the "contract"...some of the legalize was more than I was going to accept...sounded like they had some legal issues maybe in their past...example: their labor staff would walk off the job if there were any people around while they were working....now I understand the "point" there...but I wasn't signing something as flat out inexplicit...what if someone 'dropped by' unexpectantly...and their people just up and quit? there were other issues unfortunately in this contract that sounded "over the top" and too wide a scope to sign up for...so...we let it go and did not hire them. Maybe someone in their company should seriously consider a "less formal" "agreement" versus this contract...which could harm both parties in the end, and turn off prospective customers...I was indeed disappointed and shocked at the "contract". read more

As of today, I'm a previous employee, of McLean's Painting in Knoxville, Tennessee. I just had my 2 week review and my work perfrmace reviews were excellet. To my surprise I was let go do to "Cultural Differences". (I'm a New Yorker) I take the health and safety of my clients seriously as well as work crew seriously! On one occasion, due to bad weather, all the doors and windows were shut. A solvent based primer was brought into the home and used without notifying the homeowner of the dangers of having her infant in the same room, with no ventilation whatsoever. A simple common courtesy should have been given to the homeowner of the option to move her infant to another portion of the house where it would be safer. On another project that I worked on a high traffic office building. There were no wet paint signs provided to protect the staff. The work crew were working over actve doorways. There were no precautions taken for the office staff coming in and out into an active work area. These are just two of so many issues. Mcleans Painting does not follow industry standards. My list would be too long to put on a review. I have 30+ years in this industry and have never witness such lack of work ethics and performance. read more

Update to my review from 9/5/2024: I received a text from the estimator today saying that they are going to "politely pass on the project" and requesting that I remove my 1 star review from Yelp. In posting this update, Yelp requires at least some star level - I cannot give a good star review on work that was not done. My original post was, and this update is, reviewing and explaining my experience with the process, not the quality work that had been done. I'm sure that McLains Painting is a good company, however, in this instance we were not able to establish any type of customer / professional relationship. The following is a correction to my original post: I actually received a text from the estimator on Friday 8/16/2024, four days after he looked at the project, with an estimate, however, I did not see the text until 9/10/2024. (my phone had never sent me a text notification). Everything else in the original post is accurate. Here is an outline of the issue and the the work I needed done. On 8/4/2024 I discovered a soft spot and a bit of flaking paint on one of my interior window sills in a small area. So, I was looking for the sill to be replaced and painted as well as some exploratory work to determine what had caused the issue and have that corrected as well - painting, carpentry, and possibly drywall. In his text on 8/16, the estimator stated that his carpenter believed that the issue was due to a "low grade paint" being used originally and that it did not "bind properly" to the wood. Here is my question with that explanation - we bought our house new in 2005. We have not had any issues with the quality of the paint anywhere else in the house, which is the same paint used on all of the trim molding and window sills throughout the house. So, why after 19 years would one small area of paint have not binded to the wood? How long does this usually take? I have reached out to several painters, and no one wants the job. read more

Sloppy work and they refused to satisfy my complaint about the finished job. They said they don't warranty the stain used on my deck and suggested I hire them to re-stain my deck for $400. Their warranty is useless. Robert Z. read more

I will not be using them again. A lot of turnover on their teams (different people freshly hired or people they were "trying out" would show up), lack of supervision or capable supervision, timeline not kept (took nearly double the estimated time). After they were "done" got on my roof and found several areas of concern such as areas not painted at all, flashing not put back which left area for water to get behind siding, large areas of paint spilled and not cleaned off roof, and damage to my metal roof (from standing and equipment) and even failed to put a flood light back up (wires push up into the attic. Just my experience, if you use them, hope you have a better one. read more

Having used McClain's Painting services in the past, I was not surprised by the excellent quality of their most recent work. Everything about McLain's Painting is top notch. Jay, Miguel, and Jose did a great job on our home's exterior and we have them scheduled to do some interior work for later this year. We needed the trim on our house painted. Some of it was very high and in need of repair. We received estimates from others that were lower than the one from McLain's Painting, but we chose them because of their obvious professionalism and competence. We had to wait about a month, but it was worth it. They showed up on schedule and finished the job in about four days. We were very pleased with the results. read more

I've noticed that many other Knoxville paint companies have received 5 stars - but just in case someone is considering using McLain's, I want to make sure I recount my fantastic experience. I was expecting there to be a glitch or two with the big job of getting the exterior of our brick house painted. There honestly wasn't a single one! Even the weather cooperated for us. If it hadn't, the process still would have gone smoothly. Charles, the owner, and his team provided excellent communication throughout. When it looked like rain on the forecast, I was told with plenty advance notice that the painters planned to be there. They were on time, super friendly and very efficient. The quote we were provided was less than half of some other companies. They were able to use primer we already had in order to help us save some money which was much appreciated! When Charles came and performed the walk through with me, he answered all of my questions and put my mind at ease about the color I chose. He had a tool that color matched exactly and wasn't partial to any brand. He knew everything about what it's like to paint on brick and reinforced my decision to not paint ourselves! Charles and I had an after-job walk through and I couldn't notice a single missed spot or mistake. If I do in the coming weeks, they will come back and fix no questions asked. McLain's Painting did a great job with our ceiling popcorn removal. The took the time to smooth everything out before repainting & made sure that everything was to our satisfaction before we left. They left paperwork for the painting warranty & explained everything. They were professional, arrived on time & returned the next day on time. Will use again when the need arises. read more

I just want to say it was a It was a pleasure to have Mclain's crew come out to our house and do a painting Job for us they were the most Professional crew we have ever came across I didn't realize there was such crews left in Knoxville.. We our pleased with the work Mclain's and the crew... They covered everything up even the floors before they started the work they had a meeting with the field Supervisor Tony Dowell to discuss the plan like a coach at a football game... We will use them again for future Jobs Hopefully in the spring for the outside of house... I give the Crew A plus rating they gave 110% to make the customer happy.... They take pride in their work and make every effort to make sure you are satisfied with it. They recently repaired some unsightly but minor cracks in our walls. The job well went extremely well. When the job was scheduled to begin, Jay contacted me by text and told me when to expect him and the crew. Jay & his crew arrived exactly on time, ready to work. Jay was in constant contact with me when the job was delayed due to inclement weather. When the job began again, Jay and crew were there exactly on time. Jay explained everything that was going to be done and he pointed out problem areas on our home needing special attention. Jay and his crew were the most professional workers I have had work on one of my homes in over 30 years of home ownership.
