I found Mike on Craiglist, and he appears knowledgeable and trustworthy, and had lots of proof of experience. I hired him to install solid bamboo floor in my downstairs. The job took way longer than I expected, and they lost pieces of the molding that they had removed, and left nails sticking up. Our toilet also wasn't reseated properly. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because overall the installation looked OK to me, and he said he was having problems with a worker who quit. He also said that he had thought the bamboo was a different kind of bamboo than he had expected, so it took him longer than he had anticipated. So I hired him to install tile which I figured would not have all the drama of the bamboo, and I thought he would fix the little things they had left before. Well... he did do the hall bath, estimated 2 days, but it took 4 days. Why? I have no idea, you would think someone who's done lots of tile would be able to estimate the time on a little hall bath properly. And then... he was supposed to pick up the stuff from Home Depot... and he didn't... and Home Depot called me wanting to know when the stuff would be picked up. He said again that he would, and he didn't. I finally went and picked it up myself. And he was supposed to do my master bath... and he would schedule a day... and then not show up... and I'd call... and call... and talk to his wife who said she would relay a message... and then I'd call again, and she'd go "what? he didn't call you?" and if it was a day that he was supposed to start and then didn't, I'd hear "Oh that's not what we have on our calendar." or "I forgot to put you on the calendar." or whatever. At any rate, they called me exactly 0 times over the course of a month and a half, and I called them probably a hundred times. Finally, I called and was irate and more than fed up. He offered to come out and finish the job and I told him "If I could trust you to actually show up, then sure, but I don't think you'll show up and so I'm done and want my money back." and he says "I'm sorry it came to that, I'll call you tomorrow and bring you out a check." Did I get a call? Noooo. Did I call him? Yes... no one picked up. It's been a month and a half since then, and they are hard to get ahold of, and I get an excuse whenever I demand my money. "I lost your paperwork, how much do I owe you?" what???. And "we're walking out the door, I'll call you in a couple hours." Do I get a call? Nooooo. Do I get an excuse when I call back? Yes.... So now I have to hire someone else to fix the stuff from the bamboo job, AND apparently the tile job in my hall bath wasn't done right, and they have to fix a loose tile. Now I am glad I didn't have him do the master bath, or that would be a mess if he didn't do it right. I told them today that if I don't get my money in 2 days, I'm filing in court to get it. Mike installed carpet and vinyl flooring in my townhouse. It was quite possibly one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The job was only supposed to take a couple of days. The carpet alone took a week. Gaps in the carpet, bad seams, holes in the carpet. Multiple times they would leave the job and you couldn't get a hold of them. Things really got bad when Mike installed the vinyl flooring. He got glue all over my walls, doors and the cabinets. I had to repaint all the walls replace 2 cabinet doors. The vinyl flooring was put down so poorly you could see bumps from debris (ie sub flooring, crumbs, rocks.) in the floor from where he didn't sweep before he laid down the vinyl. The vinyl had multiple cuts and rips in it which he tried to glue back together (you can't do that with vinyl floor). The vinyl in some places was 2 inches from the base board. He charged me $740 dollars for the job. If cost me an additional $1600 to get everything fix and have a professional come back in and redo the flooring. Mike said he would reimburse me. After multiple attempts nothing. Finally he agreed to pay me back the $740 dollars. When I went to collect the $740 he gave me $100 and gave me some song and dance about how him marriage was on the rock and she is so mad at me. Don't believe him if he tells you this too. It is a lie. He still owes me $640 dollar and will not return my phone calls. His wife usually will just hang up on me. They have an F rating with the better business bureau. Worst experince I have ever had with a contractor. Excuses, being late, not showing up, and worst of all, and he was trying to make me sign a document at the end of this ordeal which did not even come close to the newly agreed to price. The newly agreed to price came about when his work was so way under par and I had my refrigerator in my hallway for two days without him even calling to reschedule. He also does not have a cell phone. Who in the world today does not have a cell phone. It is 2012 out here, you know. PLEASE find an alternative solution if you are shopping for flooring. read more

when a friend recommended mclurg carpet to do my carpet i was thankful. ... but i always check them out online. the bbb has them rated at an A rating, but i found this on yelp . when i asked mike the owner about it he said he had never done business with any of these people. seeing how the bbb and my friend said he was great we went with him. listen in this day of cibyr attacks you can trust much you read . over the total job they saved me $300 buck . they moved all my heavy furniture,and took the trash when they left. the last guy lefted at the end of my driveway. read more

Alright- I know what some people are thinking because its the same thing I thought when I hired Mike. You're thinking "he's giving us such a great deal and seems so nice/experienced/candid that these negative reviews must be by those people who just can't be made happy." Well I'm here to tell you that hiring Mike will result in nothing but stress and loss of money because you will ultimately have to have work re-done to correct flaws. Mike installed our hardwood floors. He neglected to level the subfloor (which we specifically talked about and were assured that this would be done with a grinder and leveling compound). Because of this we had to have another flooring company come and rip out and replace a significant portion of the floor resulting in an end price which was slightly more than what we would have paid had we gone with a competitor. When the other company came (they were great by the way) they informed us that the wood used was "builders grade" which means its flawed and thus not the same as "store grade" (we had some concerns about what Mike deemed to be "character" but didn't realize it was total bs). Additionally, he left such a large expansion gap that you can see the subflooring even with the trim installed (we have to install quarterround now specifically because of this). Finally, trying to communicate with him was painful. He missed four appointments and always kept his cell phone dead or off. If you called the office (aka house) phone is wife would answer and provide what became stock excuses. The final straw came when Mike repeatedly failed to appear to finish the job. I called and was told by his teenage son that I had the wrong number and that "no one named Mike lived there." When I called again his wife answered and denied knowing why such a thing would happen- the job was never finished. The real kick in the pants is this guy is judgment-proof. If you think you can seek legal recourse be ready to get in line- just check him out on Courtview. Sadly, this was a job I considered doing myself but passed on since I wanted it done right by a professional. All I gained was an imperfect floor and a great deal of stress. STAY AWAY!!!!! read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIRING HIM FOR ANY WORK ON YOUR HOME!!! Mr. McLurg, at the beginning, "appeared" to be such a friendly and knowledgeable contractor who took pride in his workmanship. We hired him to lay the carpet in our family room and the vinyl in our kitchen area and laundry room. I have to admit, I did not research his reviews. I figured he was a licensed professional; he must lay floors all the time. How could he mess it up? WELL he found several ways! First, the carpet in the family room, we told him we wanted the seam on the side of the family room where the sectional sits so it would not be visible. I got home from work and the seam ran across the room, in front of the fireplace in full view! I told him that was not what we asked for. He assured me he would make it very secure and it would smooth out with a little time. IT HAS NOT! He said he and his son were going to take a lunch break. When they returned, he said he would be back the next day to do the kitchen area because his back was hurt and the refrigerator was heavy and would he have more help. He did not return the next day. He claimed that his whole crew had quit on him! I was suspicious of that but, what do you do??? I told him at that time that, there were 2 areas near the sectional, where there were GAPS BETWEEN THE CARPET AND BASEBOARD. We have ceramic tiles in front of the fireplace. The carpet in front of the fireplace had about a 2 inch section that was not tacked down; it was sticking up. He said he would fix the gaps and the piece in front of the fireplace. He fixed 'one' gap and the piece in front of the fireplace. But as of today, there is another section of carpet sticking up in front of the fireplace!!!! It was the week before Christmas when he did the work. My husband and I left for the weekend to pick up my mother-in-law and left a relative there to watch our home while he worked that Saturday, and to pass Mr. McLurg his check. Upon returning, the vinyl was laid but, the wood TRIM WAS NOT TACKED DOWN all the way around. I was sweeping the floor when a strip just slid out. When I checked the other strips around the kitchen, another one slid out. Inside my kitchen pantry, THERE WAS NO TRIM put down at all! I was able to just lift the vinyl up and look at the old vinyl, which was not cleaned! Also, there is a lump of something underneath the vinyl next to my kitchen trash can that I can't remove. THERE ARE AIR BUBBLES IN THE VINYL. It was not pulled tightly!!! The wood trim looks tacky because you can see raw unfinished wood on the ends. I called and told him about loose trim. He said his son helped him and he should have checked behind him. Needless to say, when I checked my bank account the Wednesday after Christmas, the check had cleared and he DID NOT RETURN ANY OF MY CALLS NOR DID HE COME OUT TO REPAIR HIS MESS-UPS!!!! I love the flooring I chose and it's a shame to have to worry about my carpet unraveling. It's shame to look at my nice vinyl only to look at bubbles in it! I don't know what it may cost me to have this fixed. HE TOOK ANY EXTRA CARPET AND VINYL. So, watch out for that too! If you decide to use him and need to repair the work you won't have any pieces to make repairs!!! read more
