Several, and I mean SEVERAL, times he sat on our couch and his cell phone would ring. He never at any time answered it or silenced it; he would just let it ring. My wife and I found it very disruptive listening to a ringing phone while we were trying to have a conversation. During the project Mike talked several times to our insurance company. That was a mistake. He continuously told us things were set with the insurance company. At the end of the project, I spoke with the insurance company and they told me that they were covering every thing except $2000 plus. Later, when I explained my conversation with the insurance company to Mike he said the insurance company was paying everything (except our deductible of $500). I explained my reservations to him, but he assured me that there would be no more out of pocket expense. After the project was done, we received an invoice from Lutz for over $2000. I was floored! The moral of the story: Don't trust everything your contractor tells you and don't let them deal with your insurance company. You're better have that dialogue yourself. I cannot find it within myself to recommend this company.

James took a complete ownership approach to our project and the final outcome proved his expertise. Jim is extremely knowledgeable, a rare craftsman with many years of finish carpentry experience, which is what we were seeking in a builder. From choice of materials, framing, conception and design, the final outcome exceeded our expectations. We are planning on having James build phase 2 of this deck next summer, adding a bridge, and another bigger deck area, which will extend further into the yard. He scrutinizes all materials purchased for any flaws and purchases from Sequin Lumber, which is another feather in his cap. The solidness of the deck is evident as soon as you step on to it and that is what we value. James is a rare example of integrity and expert builder in a complete package.
