Associated Physicians - It's a great day to be an AP patient!

After a couple years of inadequate care elsewhere, I'm happy to have found Associated Physicians…read more When my "usual" doctor left the practice, Dr. Fothergill took over and she has been thorough and helped me even when I didn't know I needed it. She referred me to an allergist and that decision was unexpected, but also incredibly helpful. I also see Dr. Schwartz for OB/GYN, and she is the best gynecologist ever. I wouldn't say I like having gyno visits, generally, but she's the best in town.

Update: someone is reviewing reviews and covering themselves. They updated the website within hours…read moreof my Yelp review. Screenshot of the website pre- and post-review attached. There is little regard for continuity of mental health care. After seeing Gil Roth since 2021, when I called to schedule an appointment after a four month lapse, I was told I was no longer eligible to be a patient as I did not have a PCP in the clinic. I haven't had a PCP in the clinic since 2023. I never received notice in writing of this new "policy" (a nurse later coldly told me this isn't a "policy", but that "Gill Roth and Dr. Cordes are providers that were hired by Associated Physicians to see our patients"). There is nothing posted on their website, even now: https://www.apmadison.com/behavioral-health (It even says Gil is accepting new patients- ironic, since they are actively turning them away). So beware- because it isn't in writing as far as I can tell- if you aren't in their PCP club, even if you are a pre-existing patient with years of a relationship established- they have very little regard for the continuity of your mental health care.

Dr. Ciske is simply one of the very best physicians I have ever met. The people who work with him…read moreare very helpful, friendly and professional. The turn around time for a request for assistance that he and his staff routinely provide is staggeringly short. I recommend Dr Ciske and his staff highly.

I will admit now that the issues I describe here occurred in 2006. However, they are pretty major…read moreand based on them I would warn anyone away from this guy. Ciske was the first doctor I tried when a sudden major medical problem convinced me that I needed a primary care doc. I went once and never returned, because of two things that happened during that first visit. #1: The nurse took my health history before Ciske came in, as usual. When he arrived, he looked at my chart and said to me, "So you're in relationship?" A bit taken aback, I responded, "Uh, no, what?" I looked over at the computer screen and he was UNCHECKING THE SEXUALLY ACTIVE BOX. That ANY physician could be so incredibly narrow-minded, and in a way that actively threatens the health of patients, is absolutely astounding. The fact that Ciske seemed to be relatively young--definitely not over 35--just made it all the more baffling. Fortunately, I was assertive enough to tell him immediately that I was in fact sexually active, but no woman should be put in that position by her doctor. #2: Because of my then-recently discovered clotting disorder, he insisted that I should not take ANY form of hormonal birth control. I use Depo Provera (the shot), which is progesterone-only, and had little interest in giving it up--especially given that blood thinner meds cause fetal bone deformation, so it's kind of important to avoid getting knocked up by accident. I pointed out to him at the time that there was only a known association between estrogen and blood clots. His response? "Well, they're all hormones." That's right. This man has an MD and he apparently believes all hormones do the same thing. Probably he would have strongly opposed treating me with insulin if I'd been diabetic, too--that's a hormone, after all! Numerous other doctors, including two hematologists and an obgyn, confirmed later that, as I already knew, Depo Provera is actually the preferred hormonal contraceptive for women with clotting problems. To sum up, this man is either a stealth puritan or an idiot; either way, you do not want to entrust your health and safety to him.

The dermatologist removed the basal cell and then I went to the SSM Aesthetic center so the plastic surgeon could close the site. I expected skilled care and a good outcome. Unfortunately, my experience was far from that. The procedure left me with unnecessary scarring and complications. I sent photos of the botched site and returned to the surgeon's office in fall 2024 seeking advice. They recommended a scar revision with a different plastic surgeon. That appointment was scheduled for late February 2025. I went to the appointment. After waiting 45 minutes, I had to leave. I was told at the scheduling desk that this surgeon often double books. If I wanted to reschedule, the next available appointment would be in May. I typically don't leave reviews, but people deserve to know what kind of experience and outcome they might expect. I regret choosing this practice for such an important procedure, especially on my face. If you are considering Mohs surgery, I strongly recommend researching other doctors who have a proven track record of excellent results and compassionate patient care. You might want to avoid SSM Health's plastic surgeons.
