This is a really great park sitting along the Willamette River. The park has a nice large…read moreplayground; it would only be better if there was a fence but there are steps so that slows a kiddo down. The Riverfront Park includes the playground and just grassy area (which is nice for all the folks we saw picnicking), and the carousel, plus food trucks congregate in the amphitheater area sometimes. The day we were there there were three of them and plenty of space for a couple more. Nice option to go grab a snack. There were a few picnic tables and we were able to claim one of them. The bathrooms were pretty gross. There was no soap or anything in them and one was in yucky shape. That led us to the port-a-potty, which was pretty gross but a little less gross than the permanent toilets. There's a large parking lot here since they must have lots of various activities taking place here. I'm glad we visited here (at a friend's recommendation) and got to enjoy this (mostly) well-kept park.

This park is much like Riverfront park with some great improvements…read more The fields are separated, so you need not worry about soccer / Frisbee clashes any longer, each can tourney in peace. The bark dusted playground has the duel play structures but also has swings, and a climbing rock. You'll find the same long smooth sidewalks and a covered pavilion about half the size of Riverfront's but you'll also find tennis and basketball courts here. The splash pad does not just spray up from the ground. It has pipes that mist in all directions and deluge you from above. It is a little bigger and has more fountain points to, so more children can play, and get a little more creative with it. This park really gets all classy with the planning, putting the splash pad in a place that doesn't creep into the shade, making sure there are trees by the playground so parents don't bake and the ace in the hole? That would be the ample parking that is not located a quarter mile from the playground! Get's an A+ from this mom. The one warning I have is that when the soccer games and birthdays fill the park, it brings the 1 lane traffic to a standstill. In that event park across the street at the Fred Meyer's or come back in an hour. It usually clears out fast.

Bush's Pasture Park is easily my go-to park in Salem. I come here for walks, to relax in the shade…read moreunder the huge trees, wander through the roses, and visit my favorite cherry blossom tree every spring. I also love all the flowers up on the hill on the south side. On the northeast side there are SO many little rodents running around. They're fun to watch, but don't feed them, you're not supposed to, and clearly they're doing just fine on their own! There's a creek where you can sit and relax, or even put your chair right in the water on a hot day. There's a tree swing, beautiful old trees everywhere, and always something to explore. I also love stopping into the art barn. It's free and filled with local art, and I try to go through every time they change the exhibit. There are tons of events held here throughout the year, and the park is almost always full of people walking, playing, picnicking, or just enjoying the day. It's one of those places I never really get tired of. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Salem.

They had 2 rows of free parking under the bridge and another free lot on the same side of the overpass and some street parking spots. There were 2 whole houses of various themed play areas to explore, including an area for littler ones. One big house for all things creative and DIY, and the best part was the outdoor space with a sandpit, bubble house, and a huge tree house structure. You can spend all day here! In fact, you really should because once your wristband and stamps are on, you can come in and out all day. Side note, they also have a coffee shop called Play Cafe with delicious drinks with very reasonable pricing! If we lived close we definitely would be members and visit all the time. We can't wait to come back again to explore more!
