Not your average toy store. Fun for all ages. Displays are fun and unique, and you see fun stuff everywhere you look! You'll find lots of new with vintage mixed in. Worth a visit!

What a fun, magical toy store! There is everything for all ages in here, including a working skeeball at the back of the store. Definitely worth a stop in!

An entire train area with staff workbench.

Lots to see in this unusual store full of antique and modern one-of-a-kind items. I've visited similar eclectic shops in other cities but this one is super sized beyond compare. A great place to shop for unique gifts or just browse while visiting Madison!

I spotted this new business while walking down Main Street in Madison. With a name that includes "Wonder Emporium", I had to go in! This is one of those throw back toy stores with items for kids to actually play with instead of just watching a screen. There were lots of plush animals, some were even life sized! (There was a pony!) I found action figures/comic character merchandise, Disney, and Pops. There was a section for railroads, a little kids/toddlers section, and a science section for slightly older kids. What I really liked about this place is that it doesn't have just the most popular items, but it has unique items that I was drawn to because they weren't the same old thing. Lots of space for moving about and a central checkout spot near the entrance/exits. If you are shopping for a youngster, here is a place to look for something different that may actually hold their attention. Review #3399

What a nice surprise finding this shop filled (I mean packed!) with collectibles. I'm not talking…read moreabout the latest and greatest highly marketed items, but those kinds of things I grew up liking or buying for my kids when they were growing up. They had Star Wars, Star Trek, GI Joe, Marvel and DC figures, Barbies, sports figures, and so much more. Lots of vintage comic books too. I've been to comic stores and to a somewhat similar place in Fishers, but this shop, though packed, seems more organized and easier to get around in. There were lots of items I remember seeing 20-30 years ago. Some were still in the packaging, but there were some just in plastic bags that were really affordable if you are looking for toys that kids can play with. (Why pay for the packaging?) But they had some items that, although maybe not in mint condition, were unique. How about a life sized inflatable Jabba the Hut! Or helmets of storm troopers or Boba Fett. Ora cooler that looks like R2D2. Yes, they had them! The guys who work there were friendly and easy to talk to about the items. Although I didn't make any purchases this day, I got some ideas I may pass along to my family for my birthday/Christmas. Fun stuff! Note that this location is a little awkward to get to from the south. I highly recommend cutting across Troy to Brill Street and then heading north from there because Madison angles and would be difficult to turn onto Brill from the south. Southbound on Madison is no problem though...just watch for the street sign. Review #3305

Plus, don't try to sell them anything because they won't even give you a quarter of the value of anything! I found just that at the locally-owned Playthings Toy Shoppe in the Westport Village! Oh how I love to support locally-owned businesses! I was pleased to browse the aisles and find that they were chock full of unusual, traditional, and more educational toys than I had found in the toy sections of the big box stores where brands like Barbie, Transformers, Paw Patrol and Stars Wars make up the bulk of the offerings. The toys were thoughtfully arranged, as if by age, and employees are ready to help with your selection if need be. Prices were in line with those of online specialty toy stores that sell these types of toys. Free gift wrapping is offered, which is a huge relief for those of us who do not enjoy gift wrapping! I highly recommend visiting Playthings if you are toy shopping. Parking is plentiful at the Westport Village of shops.

And like my other experience, I found this Playthings to be a great locally-owned toy shop. The prices were fair, and it excels at having educational toys and brands you might not find at the big box stores, which I very much appreciated. My son is into dinosaurs for the moment, so I went on Playthings' website and found a great set of dino figures. I was able to buy it online for local pick-up, and the icing on the cake -- I got it wrapped for free. Free wrapping is a service Playthings provides. I also want to commend Playthings on their great customer service. I ordered this right as the ice storm was starting, and they called me to see if I wanted to still pick up that day. The employee I talked to was concerned I would come out when they had closed early. I picked up the toy a couple of days later. Especially if you have kiddos to buy for, don't overlook Playthings.
