I hadn't written a ranting, one star review in a while, but my recent experience with what MDX hath wrought inspired such a writeup. As it were, it's not an empty rant. I was inconvenienced by a traffic jam due to their toll gantry construction. You know the added congestion on 836, and the constantly switching lanes to the Palmetto? Yep, that's their fault! The delays and new toll gantries on SR112, that close some lanes at night and day while they install the SunPass equipment? Yep, MDX fault as well! The added cost to drive, collecting money on roads that were operational and paid for before I learned to drive? You get the idea... With the constantly increasing tolls you'd think traffic flow would have improved, or red lights would be synchronized..well they haven't. In fact I have yet to see one useful product out of this agency. If I considered a tin foil hat a fashion accessory, I'd say the only purpose of MDX would be to discourage people from driving. If MDX were a restaurant, they'd be a recurring star on a certain TV stations bad restaurant segment and shut down by the health department. read more

Jorge and Handy to the rescue ! On my way home, north on I-95 sun pass lane when suddenly I heard a weird sound from the back of my car so I merged to the emergency lane & boom my back tire was flat ! Always seeing the cute roadway assistant trucks on the highway through the years, I thought about calling to see if they can assist. *347 and the operator was nice and efficient asked where I was and provided and eta. About 10 min later (no joke!) the cute truck arrived and asked if I was ok, assessed the situation and offered me water! Since changing a tire closest to the highway aka danger zone, Jorge called a flat bed to get my car off the highway and safely change the tire. That's where Mr. handy came within 5-10 min and was also great! We headed off the highway and the gentleman did their job. Very thankful for all their help and for the great service and best of all it was FREE ! I also learned that you don't necessarily have to call mdx because they're also watching the highway cameras and report any stopped vehicles read more

Dear MDX, We Miamians rely on you to get just about everywhere in our beautiful city. Without your roadways South Beach would not just be a 20 minute drive from wherever one is in Miami, but rather a really long mission to get to. Without you, we would never get to the airport, or to Dolphin Mall, or even to the Keys. Without you, we would be no where, and so for that, I can personally say I am very grateful. Lately, you have been trying like mad to update and renovate all of your infrastructure. Good job! I see that there are MAJOR projects on a lot of the different highways, and of course, here are where my gripes begin. But I know that it is a necessary evil, and for that I will not curse you. But let me get it off my chest what really bothers us natives... For how long do you really need to have the entrance ramp to 112 from I-95 Northbound closed?! Do you know how long it takes to go East, get off on N. Miami Ave, and then fight through traffic just to get back on going West!?!?! Really that is your solution?!?! And the destruction and mess that is the area of 826 and Bird Road area, what's up with that? Where are you building out to? Are you going to purchase the homes next to the highway? Where is that East-West ramp going to go?!!? Just curious. And actually, I know you don't directly deal with 826, but its still a Miami-Dade expressway, and therefore, people assume its under your control. Additionally, I am not a fan of the Express Lane on I-95, but that's because I blew a tire on there and felt like I was going to get killed (not the safest when cars are hauling ass the way they do). Perhaps we can try to find a safer solution for the new convenient lanes...? Overall, I am pleased with you guys because I feel that you do try and maintain our roadways and expressways in shape and free and clear of debris. Maybe you can just work on some of the more troubling issues that really cause traffic jams, back ups, frustrations and road rage...? Thanks for listening Miami-Dade Expressway Authority! I wish i could have posted with no stars. I currently live inn Florida, MDX just took my cars picture with a previous balance that has already been paid when i renewed my tag. I was on the phone with customer service, even he stated " that i made the payment but just not through their company" this is my first time even hearing about MDX i guess they are buying peoples information and rebilling individuals i don't care how many times you guys sent the same bill out its not getting paid. When it has already previously been paid. On the invoice or whatever it is, it does't even say i violated anything. Just wants me to repay something that i have already paid. Back in the 1990s, MDX was a far different organization. They did a pretty good job maintaining a few toll roads throughout Miami-Dade County, and they were well and safely kept. Flash forward to today. The safety and ease of use are gone. The money's all being spent on ridiculous things like half million dollar effects lighting systems in toll gantries and super expensive non-native imported palm trees. The only guiding factor in MDX project designs and maintenance seems to be increased profit from open road tolling, and elimination of alternate routes which people could otherwise use to get around the city. Roadway capacity seems to be sized merely to allow everyone to barely crawl down the road at 20 mph, getting tolled by the mile, and not really to get anywhere. MDX has kidnapped us and holds us hostage for toll dollars to get anywhere. The ongoing constant construction zones are ridiculous. You get half a second to make a lane shift before being dumped head on into a concrete wall...! read more

MDX though it was cute to send me a $288 bill for 3 months worth of tolls, but is only giving me 2 weeks to pay. The lady explain to me when you reach a $3 threshold they send a bill. My question is why didn't they send a bill before? I don't think it is fair how they have been racking up my bill for 3 months, but only give me 2 weeks to pay. It is easier to pay a $20 toll invoice, but it is not easy to pay $288 at once, specially when you were not expecting this. It is sad how I called them before to make sure I did not have an outstanding balance and they said everything was ok. I have reached a point where now I start to record my calls with these idiots to be able to save my ass!!! Don't even think of trying to negotiate this with them because they won't. Fucking garbage. Both MDX and Sunpass need to corroborate instead of charging each their own fees, and neither backing down as to who was paid first. And MDX particularly charges in less than a month, An INCREDIBLY INFLATED FEE. So if you owe 4 dollars, you're getting a 12 dollar fee. Every month or so. So a small 4$ toll charge, is now 50 dollars, despite disputing, despite calling, etc. It's fucking disgusting. The people need a batman, to shit on these corporations. read more

Same things that most people already wrote about this company. I received a $39.10 bill (first time I get a letter although they claim I own payment adjustments and fees) and stating that my vehicle registration is on hold. I traveled to florida last january and received bills from Florida Turnpike, Sunpass and Toll-by-plate, all of them with payment adjustment. Will it ever stop??? Is there any other company that can eventually reach me and say that I own them some money? And yes, they have a picture of my car, all kinda blurry except by the plate which is shinning and well defined. Did they show the dates of occurence? No. Very suspicious. The system seems to be much improved now. We make several trips each year with a trailer in tow, so the discounts I get when using a transponder are well worth the $5 cost of the stick-on one. Also, when I got a bill because I forgot to update a new license plate number at Sunpass.org, the bill automatically reduced from $3.50 to .$.55 when I updated my info online. That was much appreciated. I think it's been about two years since the last time I was billed for someone else's vehicle - either the system is working better, or else that old junker is off the road now. :-) read more

I have been billed for the 10th time for someone else's vehicle. Each time I get a bill, I have to waste my time calling up the company and having the charges removed. Their SunPass online customer service is horrible. Every year there is a glitch that prevents me from receiving a low balance notice and every year for the past 5 years, I have to email them, demanding why this continues to happen. My account gets suspended and I have to pay fees to have it reinstated. One job, forward my concerns to your technical support. The last rep that replied was rude, unprofessional and condescending. He/she could not care less and just added insult to injury. After countless emails and after reactivating my transponder, this lovely individual decided to be passive aggressive and mail me a notice that my account was deleted and I would no longer be able to use my transponder. It was a scare tactic because when I logged on; my account was fine. I had to finally file a formal complaint with FL Department of Transportation director. read more

In your notice you stated that my account is past due, and that my Vehicle's Registration in now on hold. In addition, your account/invoice is presenting a balance of past due of $156.17 of which the amount of the previous balance is $123.86, plus a charge of $10.61 for fees since last bill. As I indicated, this bill is the first I have ever received from your agency. Today, I have tried to contact you over the telephone in four different occasions in English and Spanish only to be put on hold for more than seven minutes, until the battery of my phone got exhausted. This is a typical government run service. Probably contracted out with little to no regard for integrity or capability. Or perhaps integrity was a criteria and someone made money on the award of the contract. Anyway, I've given up understanding the bills and simply pay them. Its always a pic of my late wife's car. She's been dead for 9 months, the car just sits, every month I get a MDX bill. Once the car get's through Probate and sold (another Florida disgrace), I'll start objecting. Last year I was in Europe for 4 months. Never-the-less, got a stack of MDX bills when I returned. Can't argue the car was with me so paid them. No one likes paying bills. But MDX stinks to the point I agree with many others, its a fraudulent scam, run or sponsored by our government. Curiously, the IPTC data is scrubbed from the photo's posted on their site. No stars for a ripoff scam that is MDX. My wife received a notice from a collection agency for $268 and a notice of suspended license for unpaid tolls. I've always had a Sunpass with a positive balance, but MDX claims the transponder must not have activated for some reason and had previously sent notices to my house. NOT TRUE. How convenient that we receive the letter from a collection agency now that it's too late to contest in court, but we never saw any previous correspondence when we had the chance to pay just a fraction to clear this all up. THIS IS A SCAM against responsible citizens and needs to stop. read more

Can someone in authority please launch the investigation already? These guys have unofficial policies in place to fraudulently charge the citizens and visitors of Miami-Dade County. They should be shut down for criminal business activities. After they sent me a bill for charges so late that I cannot verify whether they're duplicate or not, I dispute the invoice so as to effect my lower SunPass price. They lower the bill, apologize, and then seven days later I get an invoice stating that my account is in collections and my vehicle on hold. I disputed again... (if you would like to copy/paste/edit/use in your own disputes, I welcome you to, as it fits the max characters on the MDX submission form.) I wrote this to them this morning: I rec'd your 5/26 email: "since you are a SunPass customer, we have adjusted the account to SunPass rates lowering your balance to $7.10. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused!" I accept your apology-but, one week later, I attempt to pay, and yet I can't! You've reneged via invoice 6/2 & put my account in collections, my vehicle reg on hold. I can't pay the $7.10 that you've requested because you're so hellbent on sending me to collections. How can you send me to collections when you've just admitted error & adjusted my bill in my favor??? You allowed less than a week btwn the notice of resolution and sending my account into collection/vehicle hold. Not 10 days, not 15 days, not 30 days, a week! You owe me another apology for the incredible inconvenience having to waste more of my time. It is alarming to deal with a government entity that behaves like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Sunpass here, sunpass there. MDX here, MDX there. Are they two different fckng things? Why is it that I pay and paid all my sunpass balances on my transponder but yet I get bills from MDX?! When is this whole toll bullsht gonna stop? This city relishes in raping its residents. When its not the tolls, its the red light cameras. Nobody cares, nobody protests. I just want to know what happened to logic. Does anyone think before they act anymore? I remember a couple of years ago (probably 2001) they were working on the shoulder of 95 so I assumed they were expanding the highway. I was impressed because it seemed they had anticipated the growth in population that was about to occur and decided to take the initiative to update the highway system. In that moment, I really felt like Miami was growing up as a city and doing everything necessary to be ahead of the curve. Then I realized they were actually putting up sound barriers so instead of expanding the hwy they made it feel more claustrophobic. AWESOME!! That was just the beginning... now we have this wonderful six mile stretch of express lane (on 95 North) that can only be accessed by 195 and basically forces you to go to either Ives Dairy or 836/FL Turnpike. They say it's been created to help with traffic but the only thing it's done is taken two lanes away from an already conjested highway. And what about all the people who get on 95 between 36th Street and 163rd, all they've gained is a sure bet that 95 N will be super packed. I've been stuck in stop and go traffic at 2PM and looked over to see the express lane completely empty. I just want to know who voted for this because I don't remember it ever coming up. It's gotten to the point where I don't even bother getting on 95 during peak hours anymore because I know it's a waste of time. I'd rather take the scenic route down NW 7th and avoid the aggravation. Something else MDX did that didn't make sense to me... Last year, I was renting out my unit and one of the potential tenants that came to see it was from Spain. He explained to me that he could never been late on a payment because his currently employer was footing the bill. Which I thought was great so I ask what he did? He said he's a civil engineer contracted by MDX to work here for the next two years designing a "state-of-the-art express lane". This really rubbed me the wrong way because how can someone from SPAIN know what's good for the flow of traffic in a city they've never driven in!! More importantly, who at MDX decided it was a good idea to subcontract work that's being done in our city out of the county? You mean to tell me that there's not a civil engineer out of UM, UF, FSU, or FIU that couldn't handle the task of screwing up our highway system? Not to mention if they hired someone locally, then they wouldn't have to pay for their day to day living expenses... I can't imagine how this was a good deal for the citizens of DADE COUNTY. Just another example of how our local government pisses away our money on something that doesn't even benefit the consumer and they don't need to justify it because WE're too busy to ask questions. If I could give this company a negative 10 I would. This is the email I wrote to them after them telling me that they could not give me a sunpass rate because they already did once. Dear Ms. Malo, Please be advised that I will be filing a formal complaint with the commissioner of Miami-Dade County and will not rest until this issue is resolved. First of all, it is not my responsibility to make sure that each and every toll is registered with your system, that burden is left up to the mechanism when passing through the tolls that WE toll payers pay for and SUNPASS. If your machine is faulty how can the burden be shifted to me? The least your company can do is advise that the mechanism is faulty . How is it that I am being charged tolls selectively? If you take a look at my Sunpass account you will see this is what is happening. Whether you gave me a one time courtesy or not, is not my problem as this not an issue of giving me a courtesy credit, this is a matter of error on yours and any all toll violations I receive since I am a Sunpass customer who's account is in good standing and has been for 10 years. Or are what you implying is that I was only a sunpass customer one time, like your one time courtesy? Which again is wrong information. Your facts are incorrect and not well taken. If this issue is not cleared up and I am given the benefit of being a Sunpass customer I will reiterate as stated above and contact the commissioner and any and all entities needed to resolve this. Please revisit my account and correctly assess the situation before giving erroneous and incomplete information. read more

I received a debt collection notice for MDX... and I have never been to Miami in my life. I live out of state and have never driven on their roads. When I call they are telling me I have a totally different license plate than I have. I also never received any invoices (as they claim) before it went to the debt collectors. I returned from my vacation and collected my mail on 18/01/2011, to find a notice from the MDX company that I owe money for tolls-by-plate on SR-878. I have never noticed any warning that tolls are collected on this road and have seen no sign for that. In any case, I searched on the web to find that this road at some unadvertised time actually became a toll road and in the absence of any notification and visible booth collects tolls from unsuspected drivers. The notice I was sent included tolls from July (!) and December, but it was the first time I received such a notice and already had a fine of $3 added to the $1.20 of the tolls. When I logged in the website that would allow me to pay the absurd tolls and the default unavoidable fine, an exceptionally devious invention I must admit, I found that now the bill had reached $12.60, with an additional $7 fine (and possibly some other $.40 toll). Not wanting my credit to get any hit and since it seems that the MDX private company has sided with the local government (I am guessing through some money exchanging 'deal' with local officials) to be able to obtain private information and be able to issue state traffic citations, I have paid the whole amount, keeping in mind now to avoid all highways in South Florida administered by this evil company (Gratigny Parkway (SR 924), Airport Expressway (SR 112), Dolphin Expressway (SR 836), Don Shula Expressway (SR 874) and Snapper Creek Expressway (SR 878)). I hope that some other company that pays off officials in Florida does not charge me for walking on the street, but this is the next thing I expect to see. In any case, I am keeping all information in record for the inevitable class action suit, where I hope I can redeem the amount I just relinquished and hope that the people involved in this scam / illegal taxation scheme can be prosecuted some day. I also hope negative publicity can harm your company, although I highly doubt it with the contracts and connections they seem to have, but even if that does not work, hopefully their 2.5 billion dollar debt can sink this vile company and its shady extortionist methods to oblivion, before they manage to steal that money from all of us. One can only hope, right? Interesting is also the fact that I recently received the $12.60 bill I encountered on the web, just 2 days before its expiration (and one month after they added the fine). I received multiple bills in the mail from the Miami Dade Expressway Authority for toll violations. The initial problem is that the pictures included with the bills are of cars I've never owned or driven. One was a Dodge Caravan and the other is a Mini Cooper. My plate was registered to a 2012 Toyota Camry that I leased for my ex-wife when we were married. The plate was registered to me but when my ex-wife turned the car in to the dealership when the lease was matured, it seems as if the plate was stolen from there or perhaps wherever the bank takes the car for processing. I know my ex had to get a new license plate because she needed one in her name and she purchased a Subaru not a Mini or a minivan. I called the MDX and received instructions saying that I had to submit a Registration Cancellation form which I can get from a tag agency. I went to the tag agency to get the form but I was told I needed to supply proof that I no longer owned the car. My ex-wife was kind enough to contact the dealership and a few weeks later I received paperwork showing the Toyota was returned on 10/4/2014. I took all of this back to the tag agency and was issued a Surrender LP/Cancel Reg form dated 6/15/2015. I called the MDX and they instructed me to download and fill out their Affidavit and return all the documentation I have to them via fax which I did. A few weeks later I received a letter from them stating they declined my dispute because the Surrender LP form was dated 6/15/15 and the violations were made prior to that date. They neglected to acknowledge the vehicle's Lease return paperwork which predates any of the fines or letters I've received. I called them up, waited 30 minutes on hold only to be told that now I'd have to get a notorized letter from the DMV stating the exact same thing all over again. Enough is enough!! Why do I as a responsible citizen and tax payer have to be pestered because these people can't put together the dots and see the big picture? I've spent plenty of time as has my ex-wife along with handling these issues during my working hours. It's a bill for $25.80 for goodness sake. It seems like that if MDX can't get the money, they want their pound of flesh instead. read more

What a SCAM, I don't care if I'm being charged $7.00 for passing through a toll, I get it that's my choice if I want to use the "convenience" of toll roads, what really heats me up is the double charging from MDX as they claim they where not paid from other agencies collecting from me to pay them, confusing? yes that's how I feel about the entire thing and if you call MDX, they ONLY care about when I'm gonna make the payment, not about helping me resolve or even understand the issue. They are in cahoots with the rental car companies! I avoided all toll lanes and toll roads, but somehow still got charged. When I called them with the rental car plate number, they said they don't have any records of the charges. And when I called Dollar, they said they already paid it, that's why there's no record. The State of Florida needs to be changed from the "Sunshine State" to the "RipOff State". The State that cannot accurately count votes is now ripping off drivers through a dual organization SunPass vs. MDX. I keep receiving bills from MDX, even though I have a Sunpass, doubling the tolls. Then they give no time to pay before adding late fees...I just opened a bill for a $1 toll that was doubled and already has a late charge of $5...so now they want $7 for the toll. Got an invoice and never been there! I got an invoice in January for driving a car from North Carolina NC plate AZ 53835... I've never been to North Carolina and I was in Texas during that time. I called their 1888 833 0910 number in January and explained my surprised and the person on the phone said that it had been erased and now I get another invoice with a late fee! their site (www.goMDX.com) has a form to fill an affidavit that I've sold the car! or that the owner of the car has deceased! and it also tells me that I have to send a notarized letter with an affidavit! I wonder if this is a way to scam people. Very inappropriate. read more
