I've tried reaching out to the donation line on a couple of occasions and the customer service is horrendous. Not only does the woman on the phone seem annoyed with your call, but she's also the manager and always acts as if it's not her decision to take items or not. I guess I'm not too disappointed because the antique furniture I wanted to donate FOR FREE, I ended up selling for a pretty penny. However, I do wish that they were more transparent with their donation pick up/delivery service. After several back-and-forth emails and phone calls, I was told the reason my items were rejected is that they "didn't have room," which I believe was a lie - but that's neither here nor there. I wouldn't try reaching out to them in the future.

We must give all the glory to God for utilizing every individual within this organization to genuinely minister to and love the brokenhearted who seek refuge here. They embraced me exactly where I was in my journey, providing an atmosphere where I could rediscover solace, peace, tranquility, dignity, and integrity, but most importantly, unconditional love. The place is called City Refuge but there's a separate entity called City takers, who we worked with. We gathered on the streets to pass out hats, scarves, blankets, socks and gloves to the homeless. I felt inspired seeing so many different people come together as a whole, while helping those in need. It touched my heart just hearing some of their stories and backgrounds. I would love to volunteer again! City of Refuge is a place that helps women get back on their feet. They basically have shelter there, they have a daycare there, they have so many things there on that campus. They provide for the women, there's even a separate place for sex trafficking victims. It's just so much goodness taking place here I'm just in awe!

Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta was brilliant. In the process of moving, there were some bulky…read moreitems we were trying to get rid of without throwing away, and we were recommended the Furniture bank! We loaded up a U-haul and backed it right up to their drop off garage. Staff immediately came up and asked what we were delivering. We said the whole load and they proceeded to pull things off no questions asked. What we thought was cool is they take used mattresses. We asked and confirmed again if this was true before bringing it and yes, if you have a mattress, they will wrap it in a protective sealed layer, making a mattress that may have a few stains and such a viable mattress again for those in need. When speaking with staff, we found out their great cause. Taken from their website, their mission: "To recycle gently-used furniture by collecting it from the community and giving it to individuals and families moving out of homelessness and fleeing domestic violence, as well as countless others struggling to make ends meet." This entire charity is powered by volunteers who give their time to help their community, and when you look at all of the rows of furniture items that have been loaded by volunteers for people needing that extra help, it makes you (or it made us) feel much better about dropping the things off that we no longer needed. Just a note, we delivered because at the time we were told that delivery would be about 1 month out. If you have to be out relatively soon, give these guys a heads up much sooner in the moving process. Great group, great cause and if you live anywhere near the Atlanta area and have some furniture you're looking to get rid of, give the Furniture Bank a call!

What I feel I can comment on is that the staff was very polite and helpful when I arrived to drop off a donation for the women and children who seek assistance and some form of normality from the shelter. A very nice lady welcomed me at the door with a smile before proceeding to retrieve a rolling bin from beyond the back office. We chatted briefly as she accompanied me to my car and collected my donations. From our limited conversation, I was told that she's been working at the shelter for about 3 years. Out of respect for her and the work that the staff at the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women & Children do, their names will not be appearing here but their work speaks the clarity of their commitment and humility. These unselfish humanitarians are beacons for what it means to work for the greater good of humankind. One of the many commendable things about the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women & Children is their obvious commitment to making a genuine difference in the community. My actions today, albeit small in comparison have the potential to significantly impact the well-being of people less fortunate and that alone makes the effort of giving worth it. I will most definitely be returning to the Shelter to make additional donations from time to time. It is our responsibility as our brothers and sisters keepers to remember that no matter how tough you think you have it, someone else is facing challenges tougher than you ever imagined.

Hands on Atlanta serves the community year round. If you choose the free option there is a cart already prepared. Their hours of operation are limited and they do require a one time registration.
