Dedicated and committed leadership at Meadow Brook assures solid care for my sister. She is happy to be there, and really enjoys the food.

I stayed in St. Vincent hospital as long as I could under the supervision of Goodman-Campbell. When insurance said that I needed to be released from the hospital the ambulance drove me to this rehabilitation facility. They punished me by insisting that I sit up without assistance for five minutes. I screamed in pain and slunk out of my wheelchair and was laying partially on the floor before a nurse came back into the room. She chastised me for yelling. I said that I needed my wife, and wanted to call my attorney. She denied my request. That night I had to sleep in a hospital bed that I soaked with urine.....I had a spinal cord injury after all. After trying to sleep in my own urine overnight a morning nurse came in. He was so compassionate compared to what I experienced heretofore at Hamilton Trace. He cleaned me up and changed my sheets. Two hours later my wife was allowed to visit. The chief nurse said that I had to return to the hospital after existing one and one half days in hell with this outfit. Yes, I waited in pain until another ambulance came to return me to from where I came. Terrible experience. I can't even think about the pain these people let me suffer saying that I needed to sit up for five minutes and then they chided me for screaming in pain, Bad show all around. I pray to God that this memory will not haunt me, causing nightmares.

For Barbara McNamara and me it is more a Retreat Lifestyle. We have time to read, write, and reflect. There are several retired ministers living here, a retired Firefighter Chaplain, two fine pianists. There are others with a wealth of life experience, including success in professions and business. We enjoy conversations with people who have lived exceptional lives. We have exercise classes, a heated salt-water pool, Chair Yoga, healthy food, a weekly Bible Study, and on-site Sunday Worship Services. We also enjoy Happy Hour on Friday, we just had a 500 Race Party and are planning a KY Derby Party. There are times and places for discussion and reflection. Living here helps us with the organization and integration of our lifetimes of experience and learning. So is Sycamore Reserve a Resort or Retreat? The bottom line: The management and staff here provide us with great choices each day to live the life that works for us that day. We love having choices.

They drop in for lunch there, asking residents how things are going. The staff participates with residents in doing art projects, community outreach, and exercise. The result is a very 'dedicated to resident' feel -- and residents who are engaged and happy where they live. I get that feeling every week with every visit. This place is truly remarkable!

Then I found out that they didn't even have the proper cna's these were home health aides!!! If your mom is given the wrong pills good luck on them telling you, you will only find out when mom is sent to the hospital!! Then good luck with the kitchen staff they don't seem to ever get things right. And housekeeping is just horrible. Mom had the same floor stains for more than a week before housekeeping finally came in and cleaned the room!!! Trash is piled up. And when you talk to the head of nursing she doesn't even show an ounce of concern!!! On top of that I looked up the license for AMY AND BOBBI and they aren't even insulin certified and the lead nurse said they were!!!! Be careful where you send your parents!

Over the course of her stay, we repeatedly documented concerns involving multiple days of missed medications, highly inconsistent medication timing ranging from 4am to 1030am, lack of supervision during medication administration, missed meals, and prolonged hygiene lapses. After requesting a urine screen multiple times over several months, a UTI was ultimately confirmed only after visible blood was observed and outside testing was performed. What was most concerning to us was not a single mistake... we understand caregiving is difficult and emergencies happen. It was the repeated lack of follow-through, lack of communication, and the need for our family to continually monitor and identify issues ourselves. Memory care residents rely heavily on routine, oversight, and consistency. Families should not have to review cameras to confirm whether medications were administered or meals were provided. We truly hoped this placement would work and did not make the decision to leave lightly. In the end, for her health and safety, we felt we had no choice but to move her. No family should have to fight this hard for basic care, communication, and follow-through.

The manager assured me that he or the assistant manager would be able to be reached at any time day or night. They gave me their cell numbers. There was a care plan in place for mom and the expectations for her care. Those expectations were not met. I was constantly having to be there to make sure she was taken care of. She was given a shower by a man when we were promised that would not happen. After just a couple of months there, she was left one night and not put to bed. She got up on her own and fell and laid there till 7:30 a.m. the next day. No one checked on her all night despite it being in her care plan to do so. She was gurgling when they found her and her oxygen level was down in the 80's. She spent 3 -4 days in the hospital after that. I can't tell you how awful it was to go through this and even worse for my poor mom. We obviously did not have her go back to Bickford. The department of health found them negligent. I had them review this case because I didn't want it to happen to anyone else. These events took place in 2024 just for reference. I was seldom able to get a hold of anyone at night there if I had any concerns. The managers didn't pick up their phones at night. The nurses there are expected to also serve the meals and pick up the phones. I wouldn't recommend Bickford at all. I was given many assurances and I did do my part to research the place. But when it all came down to it, promises were made that weren't kept. They were very slow to answer any concerns. Even after the incident with my mom, I never heard from the managers. They never asked how my mom was or what happened. The one aid that was on duty that night lied about checking on my mom. The department of health confirmed that. Don't put your loved one here.
