It's a nice little spot to relax. Nothing installed at the time I was there there for someone to do outside of appreciating the views and scenery, but that's not a knockdown. Mhmhm...maybe. Unfortunately we found Yuko-en On The Elkhorn to be a bit underwhelming. The water in the ponds were either this unnatural blue color, or completely covered in a mossy algae film, and there were no fish of any kinds in the ponds. The pathway to walk was okay, pretty over grown. However the worst part of it all was the smell. The entire area smelled so strongly of sewage and bathroom smell, it was so unpleasant. Pretty disappointed in our lack of experience here but I'm sure with a little TLC the place could become much better. read more

We visited midmorning Wednesday and enjoyed an hourlong walk along the meandering pathway through the property. It would easily take more time to explore each nook and cranny of this beautiful space. We parked in the large gravel lot and stopped to check out the info board, entrance plaques, and admire the large doors in the entry gate. The path wound through the property past many interesting sculptures and trees marked with identifying tags. The largest feature is the large koi pond and has a pleasant waterfall feature at one end and large landscaped beds at the opposite side. There are also smaller ponds and water pathways (dry beds in August) with multiple bridges to allow for great views. One of the pathways wound down to a creek area and another rose up to a higher overlook point on an abandoned train trestle. This garden park was showing a bit of stress with the extended timing of late August heat for the past few weeks. Many of the hydrangeas were beyond salvaging for late blooming, which is just nature having its way. Would like to return next spring to explore further since there are multiple paths and limited time during this visit. Location is approximately an hour's drive from Louisville. read more

It was a nice stop since we were driving by and scouting for places to walk the dogs in shade. Unfortunately the trail is very short. The grounds are good, some beautiful plants. But I've been to other gardens like this that were much better. The grounds need a little work and the pond is overgrown with algae. read more

This is a Fun destinations spot that has a lot of statues in gardens and walking trails and just a lot of nice ponds and things to look at for sure I would definitely recommend it and we will be back read more

The Yuko-en On The Elkhorn park in Georgetown is awesome! We have family that lives near this park, so one day I stopped in with my dog, Batman, to check it out and take a walk. It's so great! The park is absolutely beautiful, well maintained, and perfect for taking a walk or hanging out. There's plenty to see, and it's really relaxing! If you're in the area and looking for something fun, convenient, outdoors, and free to do, this spot is it! I highly recommend it! read more

Back in Chicagoland, I used to visit forest preserves and nature sanctuaries whenever I had a free moment on a sunny day. Getting that dose of nature was just what I needed to refresh on a consistent basis. Out here in rural Kentucky; well, most people find nature on their farms or country drives. There aren't forest preserves or wild animal sanctuaries. Since I moved into my apartment and winter melted away, I've been desperate for a little bit of nature. After some inquiries and a search for somewhere to escape to during lunch, I heard about Yuko-en On The Elkhorn. I checked it out one afternoon and loved it! Sooooo thrilled that Georgetown has a quiet outdoor place to walk around and soak up a little bit of nature! It's a small Japanese garden tucked away next to a semi-busy road on the north side of Georgetown. There's a few trails, a beautiful building with rental space for classes and events, koi ponds, waterfalls, and plenty of trees to sit under. That's pretty much it, but it's lovely. Very cool find, indeed. read more

This is an interesting site. It's rather small, so it takes probably 15 minutes to walk around it. Nice trees and good landscaping. It is a peaceful place to visit. read more

This is an outstanding little park. It's a nice Japanese-style park and garden right next to Elkhorn Creek in Georgetown. It was apparently created back when the Toyota plant was being built as a show of cooperation and cultural exchange between Japan and Kentucky. It's not very large, it's a small, refreshing place to quickly walk through and in the spring and summer it's quite an amazing sight. I very much like this place, the only reason I can't give it 5 stars is that the maintenance is often lacking. It's clear that the park is on a shoestring budget (it's not actually a municipal park of the City of Georgetown) and it doesn't have a lot in the way of people or money for upkeep. It's a nice place, but a lot of deferred maintenance is slowly taking its toll. read more

I was worried this place was gone, as its web presence is nonexistent. However it is there and it is fantastic. It's small, but well-used and peaceful: a real slice of Japan in Kentucky. They were doing some improvements when I visited, but it was in fairly good shape overall. There are a few waterfalls, koi pond, rock garden, a big central building for classes, and a few small shelters. It took less than half an hour to see it all, but this is more of a sit and relax, read, or draw kind of place. You can enter through the main gate off Cardome where the lot is, or walk under the bridge from the park on the other side of North Broadway. All in all, worth a detour to go here. read more

The only thing that looks Japanese about this garden are the structures and walking bridge. The park looks like most other parks in Kentucky. If you're expecting to see koi, sorry to say, you won't see any. Perhaps at one time more care was given to this park but it looks like the only thing that's been done is the grass has been mowed. If you're looking for a typical Kentucky park that's quiet and tucked away with some nice walking paths, you will like this. If you're expecting to experience Japanese culture as I was, you'll be disappointed. Definitely not worth the hour and a half drive I made to see this. read more

This classic Japanese garden was designed and realized by a master landscape architect who traveled to Japan to study Japanese gardens in order to ensure authenticity. A lovely, peaceful place of quiet serenity, beautiful in all four seasons. A hidden gem in Georgetown. Highly recommended. read more

When I first moved to Georgetown, I was intrigued that they had a Japanese garden. It seems like such a unique thing in a small town. This place is so cool. There are koi ponds, waterfalls, a walking trail, lots of places to meditate and a neat building that can be rented out. It looks like a great place for wedding pictures. It's beautiful in the spring and fall. I love to come here and take a short walk. This place is so neat and has so much potential. I feel like so much more could be done with it, but it is maintained by volunteers who work for free. I can imagine all kinds of neat classes in the central building and nature workshops they could do. It's an underutilized gem. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem. It is tucked away in an area that most people just drive by without paying any attention. A buddy of mine picked us up some lunch and had me meet him here. It is so peaceful and quite. I LOVE IT. I would have never guessed that this place was even here. From what I am told, they often have art showings here or random get togethers. It is free to get into. It is very odd there is a Japanese garden tucked away in the little town of Georgetown. It is filled with bamboo, winding paths, walking trails, Koi ponds, rock gardens, zen sand areas to rake, and much more. There usually isn't many people here when i go. I usually pick up lunch during good weather and sit out on the main building of the park or on a bench by the pond and enjoy some peace and quite while I partake in my salad or wrap. The Yuko-en On The Elkhorn is a great little piece of zen hidden away in Georgetown. I suggest to take a drive out and check it out. I love it. read more

This is a very relaxing and lovely spot in Scott County. Attended a wedding here and it was lovely very nice walking paths winding through the area with picturesque pond and pagoda. I would highly recommend this place to relax and just get your mind right and to the be with nature. Very close to Georgetown center east drive or bike. read more

We stopped on a whim and it was beautiful. The pond and Lilly pads (in bloom) were gorgeous. I never imagined this to be in Georgetown.
