    Love the crockery

There's an explosion of indie coffee places in Glasgow right now, which is a very exciting thing - even to a part time coffee drinker. Meadow Road Coffee in Partick is a lovely wee space which has a tranquil vibe and some delicious looking food. I popped in hoping it would be suitable as a working space but it isn't really. There's bench seating along the windows and no obvious customer loo (perhaps you have to ask) so that kind of ruled it out for me. I decided to stay for a cup of tea though and even though I just had a run of the mill breakfast tea, it was presented in lovely crockery and was delicious. And only £1.80 for a whole pot - bargain! I really like the decor in here - it's simplistic with nice plants around the place and generally feels quite comfortable and welcoming. There's a big bench area displaying cakes as well as a sandwich making area. The special sandwich of the day was roast beef, beetroot & parmesan (£4.95) which sounds like heaven and I am kind of kicking myself for not getting it. They also do cool breakfast options like granola pots, toast, muesli and croissants on the weekend by the amazing Bakery 47. If you're in the mood for something a bit different for lunch, they also do platters - fish, meat, cheese and veggie (which sounds like it might be vegan). All up this is a nice wee place and I appreciate somewhere doing something a little different so I'm sure I'll be back here before long!

The Finnieston area has totally changed in in recent years with all these new coffee shops opening and popping up, it didn't take long for Dumbarton road to catch up. Now that there so many good places that serve coffee, it's now a hard choice where to go. The Meadow road coffee shop is a fantastic place that serves great coffee, there are specials offered and sandwiches, platters & freshly baked cakes. There is only window seating, and I don't think the seats are that comfortable, but I suppose it's for the minimalistic look. Overall great place for tea & cake for under £5

This weekend has been a great sensation of coffee and food! I'm am genuinely happy with my choice of stopping by this cafe before heading to Buzzcut Festival today! First of all, this cafe is gorgeous. I absolutely love raw materials, especially timber textures on black! It gives the space such character, even if it's small. Secondly, the coffee here is excellent. My partner and I noticed how careful and clean the barista is. (Coffee tip of the day) By this I mean that when he makes the coffee, he cleans off the filter, which doesn't burn any coffee while extracting it (most cafes don't bother cleaning because it's so much hassle but it really makes a difference and is an important step!! This avoids bitter tasting coffee!!); this means an excellent caffe latte for me and a delicious cappuccino for my partner! This guy knows his stuff, obviously! + the cups are so pretty; I like the irregularity of it! We also had lunch. Meat and vege platter between the sir and I! Fresh and delicious, with no complaints! And a gooey chocolate brownie (by Bakery47) for dessert. Staff are two cool dudes. They really do look cool ok! This cafe is worth the travel down from the city centre! Will definitely pay another visit very soon!! Would love to try more of their coffee.

Seitan sandwich & salad (to share)

Nice wee place that as I'm not often coffee-shopping in Partick I'd probably never have noticed. I was on there on a special mission for a seitan sandwich having read a heads up comment by a fan (employee?) the night before on a Facebook vegan group. My friend & I decided to share one and I ordered a soya latte. They use Bonsoy soya milk - if that means much to anyone. It's organic. I was so glad I'd indicated to the server that we were sharing the sandwich because it was very nicely presented on two plates with a side salad each. My friend isn't keen on peppery flavours so she wasn't that keen on it; I confess I just knew it was seitan and vegan and I hadn't taken much notice of what other flavours were going on when we ordered. I probably would have preferred more of a sweet BBQ flavour, but that's just personal preference, was still good. Coffee was very tasty, and I read a sign that says all of their coffees are double shots. I wasn't so keen on the cup it was in; the size was great as it was pretty big but with no handle on it it meant I couldn't hold my sandwich in one hand whilst lifting my cup with the other. If I'd just been in for coffee and no food I probably wouldn't have been bothered by that either. We left a couple of hours before closing; unfortunately for the guy whose first day it was (and his colleague probably thought it'd be a quiet post-lunch period and the only two current customers weren't going to be any bother) I needed a receipt and he wasn't certain how to do this on the till, but - no problem - a call to a colleague for assistance and I got my receipt. Forever the vegan causing trouble. :) No vegan cake from the counter of sweet treats available, so we went elsewhere, but if I was in the Partick area meeting a friend for a quick catchup or needed a takeaway caffeine fix I'd definitely pop back in.

Absolutely love this place! They have delicious gluten free cakes/loafs and the coffee is top notch. I would love to go back and try their food. It sounded delicious and healthy. It is a cool place to bring a book or your laptop, but it is rather small. On a positive note - they allow dogs :)

Funky cup and saucers, don't do decaf coffee but nice chilled out and great coffee. Have a variety of different types of freshly cooked food and a lot of very tasty looking treats! Seating is nice that it's round the window giving a view onto Dumbarton and meadow road. Clientele when I was in was very mixed young professional to older retired with q bob or two!

    Yummy veg sausage roll :)

Great wee place! Pointed out to me by the good people over at bakery47, so I knew that the cakes were going to be delicious. It's spacious and relaxing, with massive windows letting in lots of light, but the wood interiors keeping it cozy. Barista has some skills too :) will be back soon..

Salmon, cream cheese, poached egg and avocado, what is there not to like!?
    Jane C.

I have been here too many times to count! By myself with a book, a girl pal for a lunchtime chin wag and with my boyfriend for a cosy brunch, it is great! I have to say I have eaten the same thing every time I have gone haha but if it ain't broke.... They do a good specials board and cook your eggs fresh so if you're weird like me and like a well done poached egg (I'm scared of runny yolks ok!) they cook it to your liking! My only tiny issues is the bench at the window is a bit small, there isn't a toilet and it advertises as a deli but doesn't really have a deli counter if you know what I mean? Their concept is great, always have fab tunes on and nice Bakery 47 treats on show. Hope they have plans to make the space a bit bigger and get some tables or comfy sofas in

    Rustic charm

Having discovered Meadow Road Coffee use Dear Green coffee beans this place immediately jumped to the top of my coffee bucket list! So when a friend suggested Costa for a catch up, I quickly threw Meadow Road into the mix and off we went, simples! It has a great rustic charm about it, and benches along both windows ideal for people watching. Sadly, they only seat maybe 6 or 7 people in total and that ends the sit-in option. We got lucky, a couple about to leave spotted our eagerness for a seat and offered up their own (so if you're that couple, thanks!). I ordered my now usual it seems looking at my Instagram lol (flat white and a salted caramel brownie) while my friend opted for a long black and slice of courgette and lime cake. She was chuffed to spot all cakes are Gluten Free so big tick there! Coffees took longer to arrive than anticipated given the size of the place but looked good. No teaspoon on the saucer though so went on the hunt (discovered the purpose of the empty jam jar next to us was to hold teaspoons...). A wee natter and half way through our coffee we still had no cake...huh...by this point the girl who served us was now serving someone else so it must've slipped her mind. I asked if we could get our cakes to which I got a vacant "yeah" in response as if I was bothering her! No apology for the delay either. I will admit that the cakes were worth the wait, really tasty, but as we'd waited a while, what was left of my friends coffee was practically cold so she asked for a top-up of hot water, this too seemed a little much effort for the girl serving us. So all in, I'm quite torn with my score. On the plus, dear green coffee and great gluten free cakes but on the negative side, lack of seating and poor service. A (generous) 3...

I wound up in here due to a torrential downpour, and what a great find. The barista greeted me right as I walked in the door, and I could smell the fresh aromas of coffee in the air. Meadow Road always has people in it when I have walked by, and has a good chill vibe. There is limited bar style seating along the window, so it is not necessarily the best 'loungy' coffee shop. The food looks decadent, but unfortunately I have been watching what I have been eating :'( When I am off this hiatus, I will come back to have one of their peanut butter chocolate brownies!!! I seriously couldn't stop staring at them LOL! The gentleman serving up the coffee found it quite entertaining. It is cash only, but there is an ATM right across the road at the postoffice. Anyway, looks like I have found another great little coffee shop in the neighbourhood!

The solution in Glasgow is to forget boring run-of-the-mill 'full' anythings for breakfast or brunch and go to Papercup instead. I don't even drink coffee, which they are known for. I need to try a hot chocolate here one of these days. My friend ordered an oat milk one on this visit and said it tasted like a dessert in itself. Vegan, veggie, or gluten-free? No problem. Papercup has you covered. I've come here on multiple occasions and requested gluten-free bread without anyone batting an eye. Most American restaurants seem to want to make you feel like a criminal to even ask. My egg omelette on this visit had so many yummy toppings and was so big, bread wasn't even needed. It's a wonder these wizards can make such creations in such a small space! We happened to nab the corner table directly across from the cake case and I watched as our food was made with so much love. A drizzle of sauce, a squeeze of lime...this is the kind of place you want to get behind because they treat you like part of the family. Caveat: this place is small and you'll want to go at downtimes if you can (avoid breakfast/brunch on the weekends, for example) or else you'll be stuck outside waiting for a table to free up. You'll see locals popping in for their usual coffee orders and a muffin, then pop back out. For such a small shop, they have an oddly large unisex bathroom in the back. I remember the first time I had to use their facilities and being pleasantly surprised that it wasn't the size of a closet like you'd find in London. But let's face it, a place like this wouldn't exist in London in the first place, would it?

It was a rainy day: drizzling : that consistency of rain that makes you feel a bit run down. I was met with the most delicious, warming coffee: a very smooth latte, that had such a lovely taste that there was no need for a drop of sugar. They were out of most of their pastries by the time I sat in--due to their popularity, I have no doubt. I chose one of their remaining items: a small cake that had a touch of lemon and a raspberry on top of a creamy frosting. It was delicious--a welcomed treat when I felt in need of a pick me up. I did not have a chance to test their food so am unable to comment. Do note however: This is a VERY small place. Cozy to be sure, but small and by no means for larger groups. It is ideal for the soloist and duos to come in and have a fairly quick coffee, cake, and food (I assume). This is NOT a place to study. There are no comfortable lounge chairs, chairs or tables. The seating is composed of stools that reside at two bars. It's kind of reminding me of Italian style cafes where you drink your espresso at the bar, across from the barista who just served it to you (though in Rome, they don't offer you stools even!). Still, that's good news for the customers as there are plenty of areas to chill out in peace, including the upstairs mezzanine area. And the tree house. If only I was small enough to fit in there! Maybe we should ask them to build a bigger one that's more adult size? This used to be the Bead Shop so I'm not sure what they have in the way of kitchen facilities, and maybe this is reflected in the limited selection of food they currently have on offer. With no sign of a food menu on display, I had to ask what there was in the way of lunch eating, whereupon they produced a hand-written scrap of paper offering only soup and a choice of two open sandwiches, both of them involving seafood and cheese. Not to promising as I don't do cheese.... however, they were happy to make something without the cheese so I ended up with a highly colourful smoked salmon and beetroot salad combo, artfully dressed with some pink sauce, together with a nice bowl of yummy soup and a Long Black. The sandwich was so pretty to look at I had to take a piccy, and even without the cheese it was a bit of a taste sensation. The soup was also very tasty once it had cooled down a bit from lava temperature, and the coffee wasn't too shabby either. So thumbs up from me on this new venture. Although it hasn't been open long I hope they survive as it's just quirky enough to be a favourite hangout, especially with the student flats next door. This place only opened last weekend, so I was keen for a nosey and went in with an open mind. It's Scandinavian/Scottish which I think is a pretty amazing combination and is tucked off Dumbarton Road behind the supermarket-that-shall-not-be-named. It's really easy to find if you're following the map marker on the Yelp app. It's a lot bigger than I expected - a beautiful open space, with a mezzanine and loads of seating. I was the only customer in around 12pm on a Thursday so I got my choice of seats - I actually found it hard to choose where to sit as everywhere looks so cosy. There's a super cute penguin nook, as well as couches, window seating and a vinyl corner, so plenty to choose from. There's also the mezzanine which isn't ready just yet, but will add even more seating/space to the place. I took a seat and ordered a coffee (I know!) and some cake. At the moment, the food is strictly cakes and bakes but they're hoping to have a chef starting soon doing some savory Nordic cooking. Yum. I had the raspberry and lime polenta cake with a V60 coffee. I don't normally drink coffee but decided I wanted to give it a shot here, because I like to live dangerously. They do Dear Green and the guy was really helpful suggesting that maybe a V60 was a better option than a long black for a rookie. I really appreciated that and really liked the coffee as it was nice and smooth, and didn't make me totally lose my marbles. The cake was excellent, very spongy, soft and also gluten free. I was there to get some work done - at the moment, they don't have wifi but they're expecting to have it by Monday 8 February - and I found the vibe in here just perfect. The music was ace, the atmosphere was chilled and inspirational and I was totally on cloud 9 as I was really loving live as I drank my coffee, worked away and ate cake. I'd been there for a while and a whole bunch of people seemed to arrive at the same time so it was great to see it fill up. It's very kid-friendly as there is a lot of room to move around with buggies/prams. I ordered more cake and this time tried the Copenhagen bun. HOLY SHIZ. Was this the best bun I've ever eaten? Yes, yes it was. These are made by Freedom Bakery and it was so pillowy soft and delicious, it tasted like it just came out the oven. It was so good that I actually got two more to take home with me. I have no shame. So all up, I really loved this place. It was great to try somewhere new, it has a lovely vibe and the guys working here are super friendly and welcoming. I can't wait to go back for another visit. Yes, I know this is one of the gushiest reviews I've ever written so perhaps all that sugar and coffee has affected me more than I realised. Anyway, I'm a bit in love with FFS and I can't wait for my second visit.

Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.
