Ultimately, it became clear to me that VMP does not like staff who speak up and their primary goal is to better cover up issues rather than actually fix them. They are currently under corrective action from the state and have a one star rating. The HR manager slipped up today when I pressed her and admitted she had conversations with the CEO, COO, and therapy director and that they were concerned that I would be one to report issues that I saw and that was the primary reason that they decided to rescind my job offer. Prior to this conversation, I was given a bunch of other conflicting reasons and lies were made up, including claiming that I refused to accept the pay they offered me even though I only learned in that conversation that they actually got exactly what I asked for approved. Holly (HR) and Lisa (HR manager) were the two people I've been dealing with for the last month and I would recommend that you get everything in writing or record your conversations with them in particular to protect yourself (WI does not require you to let them know you are recording them FYI). Holly said so many lies it made my head spin and the few times I had hard evidence that she was lying her story would change entirely and she would say that she "made a mistake" and "misspoke". Lisa said that Holly followed company policy, even when I pointed out that Holly was even caught in a lie in a conversation we all had on the phone together. Lisa also claimed that no one has ever said Holly is unprofessional, implying that I was the issue, but in the exact same sentence said that Holly admitted to being unprofessional with her lack of communication with me and follow through of actually calling me when she said she would (for reference, on several occasions she would tell me she'd call me on Friday, and then we didn't speak again until the following Thursday only because I would call her). Ultimately, the therapy department is understaffed right now, they told me how desperately they needed my help, and offered me the job on the spot, but they would rather operate understaffed than risk having an employee who advocates for the residents. I am passing this information along to the state too since they are still under corrective actions, but feel it's important that potential employees and residents are aware of the depth of problems here. Other past employee reviews on different websites also echo that anyone who speaks up about treatment of residents is fired, so be prepared to file a whistleblower claim if you take a job here. As someone who rarely reviews places, it really means something that this place made me concerned enough to warn people on several review platforms. I knew that VMP had high turnover in staff, but now I know why.

I also found out that Medicare has cut off funding to this place, not once, not twice, but thrice! How bad do you have to be for Medicare to say they're not going to pay you anymore? And what happened to "Three Strikes and You're Out"? I would think they should have closed this place down by now. I don't know how bad you have to be before the government shuts you down, but I would think getting cut off by Medicare 3(!!) times would be enough. Everything I have seen personally at this dump certainly confirms the low ratings. I have absolutely nothing good to say about this place. The Facility: The place itself is a dump: dirty carpets, dirty floors, dirty windows. Broken down equipment too, including room furniture and wheelchairs. The place stinks too - literally and metaphorically. Wear a mask, even though they aren't required anymore. Just to help block out the smell. The Care: I don't even know where to begin here. Patients are left out in the hallways unattended for long periods of time, as if they're just bags of yesterday's trash. Call lights left on for hours without response. I'm not sure some call lights ever get answered. Heaven forbid, you have any kind of emergency. Employees are more concerned about getting their own meals rather than making sure patients are fed and properly nourished and hydrated. Medication delivery to patients is spotty. I heard some patients complain that it took forever to get their meds or they weren't exactly the meds they were supposed to get. The Staff: First of all, I know when you are rated 1-star by Medicare and are rated in the bottom 20% of facilities nationwide, you're not going to get the "cream of the crop" or "best and brightest" for employees. You are going to get the dregs, people who can't get a job at better facilities. And that's what we have here. Staff are generally rude, unprofessional, unhelpful and defensive. Better not to deal with them unless you absolutely have to. But the real problem here isn't the line staff. It's the management, although I hate to use the term "management" for these people as they clearly don't have a clue how to manage. The head honcho is so useless, it's not even worth time commenting. If you want to find nursing "management", and I use that term very loosely, just look on the patio. They spend a lot of time there feeding their faces with junk food and smoking. Nothing gives me less confidence in so-called "health care professionals" as when I see them routinely engaging in such slovenly habits. Quite frankly, their Backwater Rube-i-tude is written all over them. I would guess there isn't more than a sixth-grade education level in the bunch. How they got nursing licenses is beyond me. From a Cracker Jack box would be my guess. I have, however, asked the State Board of Nursing to look into the licensing situation at this place, just in case. Quite frankly, I wouldn't trust these people to clean up after my dog, let alone be handling healthcare for some of the most vulnerable populations. I would also recommend that you document everything. In any way you can. There is a problem with truth at this place, so it's best to have documentation to counteract it. You will probably want to get a lawyer too as the level of health care knowledge, and especially health care law, is very low here. Have an expert in your corner. But really, it's probably best to save yourself all the bother, and just avoid this place in the first place, if you can. Also, as I was doing research on this place, beyond all the stuff I mention above, if you read some of the stuff on the State's website, this place has been assessed thousands of dollars in fines, slapped with numerous enforcement actions, and the record is littered with alleged patient neglect, alleged medication errors, and even alleged wrongful deaths. Pretty much anything you can think of, and just another reason this god-awful hell hole needs to be shut down. Summary: This is a trashy place, run and staffed by trashy people, providing trashy "care". This shoddy little sh-thole should have been closed down a long time ago. I can only hope for the sake of the patients that it is shut down. And soon! If I could, I would give it Minus 10 Stars. There is absolutely nothing good about this place. Stay away from it if you can.

Abusive and neglectful staff. This was one of the worst experiences in my life. I was completely…read moreignored at first. Nobody came when I was pressing the call button. I was yelling at the top of my lungs for help while pressing the call button for over 2 hours. Ended up calling 911 from land line, as I thought my bladder would burst. (cell phone battery was dead) Two staff then arrived. One screamed profanity at me for calling 911. I could see into the bathroom fifteen feet away, but they refused to help me get there. They threw me a giant square thing that felt like a flat diaper and insisted I pee on it instead. Without even allowing me to wipe, the woman grabbed the leg I just had operated on and lifted it forcefully into the air, grabbed the diaper sheet, and threw my leg forcefully toward the bed. It was incredibly painful. I had been stripped of my dignity. I told the woman I needed my pain medication and water. The temperature in the room said 89 degrees. I had been crying and yelling for help for hours. The woman hissed at me, then unplugged my call button and land line phone and both left, and shut the door!!! Nobody returned for another 3.5 hours. I was so thirsty and couldn't ever remember feeling that panicked before. I was facing the wall clock. By then, it had then been over 9 hours since the last time I had anything for pain and this was one day after a knee replacement. I had been given a dose 1.5 hours before my transfer to the rehab facility. My teeth were chattering from the pain and I was shivering. The lady literally broke the pill in half to give me a half dose of what the doctor prescribed. She told me she didn't have to give me any more medication if she didn't want to and there was nothing I could do about it. I was told I should not have called 911. She was punishing me. She was pissed. Scared for my safety, and having no call button or operating phone, I somehow got up from the bed and onto the Rollator seat and pedaled my way to the center of the building where there was a phone. Crying and shaking, I called 911 again and insisted I was removed from the facility immediately. I was returned to the hospital. Doctors were completely aghast by the mistreatment. It took some time to get my shivering from the pain and shock from the trauma under control. I am still in shock over what happened. I was scared. I thought I was doing the right thing by signing up for rehab after my surgery. Turned out going home where I live alone was safer. This horror story spanned seven hours of my life. If I could give this negative stars, I would. Nobody should be treated like that.

This has been a daunting process to say the least. I was happy to find that Lamplight was close to our home and in a location where there were restaurants/bakeries and light shopping options nearby. What I wasn't too excited about, was some of the mixed reviews online, actually they almost made me cancel our tour at Lamplight. In meeting with Lamplight, we were very impressed and unsure of where the complaints come from, but as you do your research, keep in mind when reading reviews that each situation is different; and that family involvement and early intervention of needs differs. I think this is the case with many of the negative reviews. I can only speak from my experiences but: -There is no offensive smell that meets you at the door (this may vary from day-to-day, but I did not witness any and I am very sensitive to smells/cleaning agents). -Kate, the Community Relations Director, is a breath of fresh air and easy to be transparent with. She has been such a resource to us in this process. You do not feel that you are receiving a "sales pitch" or that she is looking to just fill a bed. She is very empathetical and a great listener. I saw so many residents approach her and have what seemed to be a very connected relationship to her. -The staff we came in contact with, including housekeeping seemed genuinely happy to be there. -The amenities are much like a long stay hotel with weekly housekeeping and a 24/7 nurse on staff should an emergency occur. -They offer 2 meal options, 3 times a day served by wait staff (how wonderful!). -They allow some small pets. -They provide medication management/administration and transportation to doctor's appointments. -Full list of activities on a daily basis in addition to affordable field trips for residents to get out into the community. -In addition they have a "man cave" where people gather for football games, several different church services, a library and many nooks and crannies for different events. -Rooms are private with a private bath (no stove to worry about, but you can equip the room with a mini refrigerator and microwave if you would like). In addition, the room we saw had new grey Pergo like flooring. -Your loved one can come and go as they wish unless in a memory care unit. This means that they can still attend a separate day program if that fits their lifestyle. -There are 2 floors of locked memory care each that resemble the other resident's rooms. -Lamplight is experienced with mental health patience which requires a certain understanding/expertise from what I am learning. -I believe Lamplight would welcome families to stay connected to individual's care and want them to have an active, successful partnership in treatment if that is the family's preference (not all places seem this open).

Due to conflicting stories family not allowed to see family member who is now at his limited defense's. The only thing 4-5 stars is the building!

Being able to stay in the same complex is a bonus in not having to adjust to a new environment at a time you are more vulnerable. The facility offers many amenities for every type of lifestyle. There's an onsite gym/pool, chapel, library, beauticians, extension of the MOWA art museum. They offer many excursions around Milwaukee and being on the bluff above Lake Michigan offers a great location to watch lakefront festival fireworks all summer long. In addition to the regular cafeteria style dining, St. John's offers a higher end dining option with Taylor's. The service at Taylor's is impeccable and really gives you the feel that you are out for the special dinner overlooking Lake Michigan. The apartments (at least the one I visit) in St. John's are a little dated but the common areas have all been updated and the facility continues to expand. Keep up the good work St. John's, the facility, staff and amenities seem to be top notch.
