Crunchy Almond French Toast

Best place to stay in New Bern. My second visit for a weed long R&R, Linda is awesome and breakfast is the best in town. Well appointed rooms, bedding & towels, at a modest price, what's not to like!

My wife and I had a very pleasant stay here last week. The owners, Betty and John Foy are super friendly and a pleasure to talk with. Breakfast each morning was served by the both of them and was followed up with small talk about the town and what our plans were for the day. The food was perfect each morning, and they were certain to have enough coffee on hand for each of us. The dining room had nice music playing in the background too. The first night, there was one other guest in the building, but the second night they had departed and so it was just us. There may have been another guest in the attic, but I'm sure it was just a squirrel. I'm so glad that we chose this quaint location to stay in for this trip. It was within walking distance to everything that we wanted to see, and very easy to get in and out of.

My husband and I stayed at this Bed & Breakfast for 2 nights as we closed on a house in the area. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and comfortable with historical charm. The owner made us feel very welcome. She was very hospitable, providing small comforts like coffee available all day, water bottles, and other drinks. There are a few gathering areas for guests both inside and out that added to the comfort and charm of the inn. The breakfasts each morning were absolutely delicious and well planned. We truly enjoyed our stay!

New Bern has become a regular favorite out of our visits to Beaufort, Edenton, Oriental and Wilmington (used to live there). All of those places are worth a visit. Don't get me wrong. We have stayed at neighboring B&Bs near The Jarvis. So far, there is no comparison. We have also stayed at the chain hotels there. If you go to New Bern, The Jarvis is a place you should consider first. You'll get extremely personalized service from Ian, the innkeeper. He slightly reprimanded me for fetching my own coffee on our last morning there. The Jarvis is a destination venue for wedding parties. We expected the sleeping hours might get a little loud and we were prepared for it. However, it was remarkably quiet in the wee hours and the bed may be the most comfortable I have ever slept on. We both came home well rested. I won't go into the cool amenities, but you need to check out 'The Cellar Door' in the basement. We spent a couple of fun hours there during the rain storm that hit while we were there. Highly recommended! We will definitely return.

I don't like giving this hotel a three star because for the most part it was at least 4 - except…read morefor the noise and hassle. Location is wonderful. Breakfast is good. Room is nice and comfortable, and hotel is clean. Staff is incredibly friendly. Rooms have fridge and microwave. Pool is nice. Views are incredible and price is good. So why three stars? First, we arrived at 4pm on a Friday. Check in is 3pm. We had literally been traveling since 9pm the night before. Our room was not ready. Not only us, there were four others waiting for rooms too. Not a good start to our stay. Second, our keys kept getting erased. We were here 5 days and 4 of them required is to walk back to the front desk because our key would not open the door. Even upon arrival. Third, and most annoying, is noise. We got woken up every single day because of noise. First two days it was kids running in the hallway. I can't knock the hotel for that though, they don't have control of other people's kids. The other three days it was the painters in the adjacent rooms. Day one, moving furniture at 8am. Day two was scraping wallpaper off the walls. Day three was sanding the walls. We are not early risers, but if check out us noon, I should be able to sleep til 10am if I want to. Other noise issues included the two bunny rabbits screwing all night long in one of the rooms. I called them and asked him to have her enjoy herself a bit more quietly and she did. But at 9am (after we woke up to sanding next door) my daughter, who is 5, was asking me why the woman was screaming next door. Last was housekeeping. We got a note at 930am each morning telling us that we had our do not disturb sign out and had to notify the desk if we needed service. Housekeepers are scheduled to work til 1pm, so why do I need to ask the front desk for service? Come back after you have cleaned the departures and then leave me the note. Overall, our stay wasnt bad, and I would probably stay here again. But with much lower expectations

It was midnight and he had spent the previous night in the airport due to a weather delay so he just slept in a chair. It was so gross. Due to exhaustion he did not say anything. There's no way I would've ever stayed there again but apparently this is the way they deal with complaints so do yourself a favor and just keep looking elsewhere. We booked for 2 nights for our family reunion and have stayed here multiple times in the past with no problems whatsoever. Well, they must be under new management because they have gone way downhill. The first room we were assigned had a broken AC unit. Maintenance was supposed to come fix it but never did. The room smelled horrible like mildew and multiple stains on the carpet (I'd be willing to bet this hotel has been flooded but not repaired). We were eventually moved to another room only to discover that the door didn't fully lock. We had to use the latch to even feel somewhat secure. Other family members stayed in other rooms in the hotel and they had similar issues with rooms in poor condition. These rooms need some SERIOUS repairs and some TLC. It's UNETHICAL to keep collecting money for rooms that you KNOW are not up to par! Also, someone kept propping open the back door with a rock. I moved it several times and it seems like this is a common practice because no one else seemed concerned, yet it is extremely UNSAFE for obvious reasons. We also noticed that some of the staff brought their young children to work with them. I know times are hard but this is unsafe and likely an OSHA violation. So many disappointments. It felt like we were staying at a Motel 6 or Super 8. This is not the Comfort Suites that we had grown to love over the years and certainly not what I paid for or expected. It is obvious that there has been a change in management and/or ownership since the last time we stayed there and no one seems to care that they are ruining the Comfort Suites brand. We will NOT be staying again.
