We booked one night here as a little pre-holiday treat to ourselves after reading about them in a magazine. The location is perfect for walking to the nearby shopping and restaurant district. The inn was decorated with lovely Christmas decorations and fluorishes throughout the property. Our room on the second floor was actually quite big by B&B standards. There is a made-to-order coffee machine and snacks in the common area. As with a lot of B&B's, there are plenty of books and a sitting area. Our only minor quibble is that while the breakfast was tasty, it didn't quite fill us up. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place. read more

To-date, I don't feel like I've had a true Bed & Breakfast experience until I stayed here. Like many others, I've used Air B&B extensively for stays around the world at homes of varying types. Since I was taking an extended visit to New Bern for a trip into the past and the peaceful atmosphere of the east coasts historical towns, I thought why not make the stay a part of the experience? This was the first place to pop up in a quick search of the area and I didn't waste any time considering other spots. As it turns out, this is one of many B&Bs inside old, historic homes along the same street. That said, I don't regret my decision to stay here one bit! As soon as I came in, the keeper was welcoming, inviting and friendly. She was understanding and took me about the house to pick a room that was to my liking. Seeing that several rooms were available, the decision was hard. I finally settled on a large, Kind-bed room in the front of the house on the second floor. Room 7, the Tallulah Suite. All of the rooms featured a name that pulls from some historical significance in the state of North Carolina. The house was built, rather solidly, in the mid-1800s. I suspect this lent itself to a very warm, cozy and quiet feel. I was never once disturbed in sleep and the bed was perfectly comfortable. I wandered parts of the home and read books peacefully in the quiet of the halls when not browsing the decor. Breakfast couldn't come sooner. It consisted of fresh fruit, sausage, a homemade savory Italian tart, and homemade, fruit & nut biscotti. They offer coffee and an assortment of teas and juice to choose from. There are daily newspapers to read too, if you like. The innkeepers are happy to share things to do around town and have a few flyers and town maps that come in handy. The location makes it a very convenient walk to the entire historical district, shopping, restaurants and the riverwalk. New Bern itself is a really cool town - almost NC's own little Charleston, if I may be so forward. A bed and breakfast like this truly makes the experience. read more

The owners take great pride in their investment here. There so many fun trinkets and although not all of it while my style I appreciated every bit of it. They have a fully stocked fridge with sodas and snack and hot tea/coffee. I have to say breakfast was the best part. Oh my goodness! It was divine. I asked for some salsa with it and it added even more of a delight. You do share a family table with others staying there so one must be ok with that. My room was spotless and the bed was comfy. The location is nice for being right downtown New Bern. This was a quaint, charming place with a lot of love put into it. read more

This was close by the convention center, where an Oktoberfest was being held--the reason for staying here. The room was comfortable, with a low speed ceiling fan; But the highlight was an exquisite (no dairy!) gourmet breakfast, with house-made biscotti and heavenly coffee! Wanted to visit the Birthplace of Pepsi and made the trip to New Bern, NC and stayed overnight on May 16th. I never tried a B&B and thought this would be the perfect time to try it. I have to say I will did not regret this decision. Arrived and was greeted by Gretchen who was very pleasant. Her husband Tracy was outside when we arrived and was working in the yard. Gretchen gave us the tour of the house and let us know what time breakfast would be served in the morning. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The water pressure of the shower was great. The common rooms of the house were very comfortable and pleasant. The dining room environment in the morning for breakfast was like being at a family get together. The other lodgers were very pleasant and the conversation was very pleasant. The breakfast meal was perfect. Just an inside tip. If you call the B&B directly to book your room, you will probably save yourself some money. Also with a direct call, you can let Gretchen or Tracy know if you have any food allergies and they will make sure that breakfast will be a pleasing delight for you. The Pepsi drugstore is just 2 blocks away from the B&B. read more

My friend from Charlotte came to visit, so we decided to go to New Bern for an overnight stay. I made reservations for us at Harmony House, reserving a room on the ground floor. Upon arrival, we found our room to be quirky and adorable. It was green with a fox theme. There was even a stuffed fox on the bench by the bed. Harmony House is located within walking distance of everything in New Bern. We were able to enjoy the art walk that Friday evening, as well as Tryon Palace the next day, never having to get in our car. The only thing is that I found our room to be hot at night. I am warm natured, so it probably was just me. Breakfast was outstanding! They accommodated my vegetarian diet very generously. There was a breakfast casserole, fruit, grits, and a scrumptious sweet bread, plus good coffee. I would definitely stay here again during the cooler seasons. read more

Just had an amazing weekend in New Bern in this fabulous house. We had the package deal including tickets to Tryon Palace, gardens & museum, as well as a dinner at a great restaurant. Blocks off the ocean in historic district it is the perfect location. The house was big, clean & lovely with individual room temp. controls & TVs! The beds were amazingly comfortable & the furnishings transport you back in time as you sleep under a colonial canopy. To top it all off, the innkeepers Gretchen & Tracy are lovely hosts & serve incredible breakfasts. Fresh coffee is available 24/7 and I can't imagine a better place to stay! read more

We booked this several months ago when we drove through New Bern on our way home from visiting our daughter. The town seemed so charming, we wanted to come back and explore. The Ellis Bed & Breakfast is located near downtown and within walking distance of many attractions. Our room was spacious and lovely with a king sleigh bed and black out shades (much appreciated). The bathroom was small, but well-appointed with a freestanding tub and a corner shower stall. Very clean and nice amenities. The house itself was fun to explore as there were many antiques and art pieces to see. The front porch was a treat with large porch swings and rocking chairs... perfect to enjoy a cup of coffee before breakfast, or wind down after a day of exploring. Breakfast was fabulous! Creamy cheese grits, an egg strata served with sausage and a melon salad, and topped off with a lemon-lavender loaf (wishing I had the recipe for that!). This was the first time we'd stayed at a B&B and it was a great experience. The hosts were friendly and informative and we enjoyed talking with the other guests. Such a different experience from a typical hotel stay... much more homey. Loved it! read more

I chose this Bed & Breakfast for a three night stay when in town visiting family. First, its a great location, easy to get to and so much to see and do within walking distance. Second, Gretchen my host was so pleasant, gave me a tour of the Inn and showed me to my room. The room was charming. Bed was very comfortable, and there is a remote control to operate the air system if it is too cold or warm. My room also had a nice ceiling fan. Breakfast each morning was served to me immediately upon entering the dining area. Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9:30. An appetizer and dish is brought to you, and there is a bar with juices, and a cake or muffins each morning along with a separate coffee bar. If you want a coffee any other time of day a small snack area is set up, with muffins from the morning, assorted snacks and an espresso/coffee machine. The Inn was quiet, very comfortable, and so much nicer than staying at a hotel. I will return again! read more

Well I'm giving 5 stars here. This is the first B&B I've ever stayed at and now I'm hooked. The location is only 1 block from downtown where there is everything from kitschy shops to breweries. The rooms are gorgeous and spacious. The bed was one of the most comfortable ever with feather pillows. We stayed in the Swannanowa room. The hosts were very friendly and knowledgeable. As far as the breakfast, well I could have sat there all day. Pies, scones, ham. I could go on and on. Plenty of parking too. I can't wait to stay there again. Stayed there in late August 2019. Had to check in late and they were right there to greet us, explain everything about the old home that is now an inn and see us to our room. Surprisingly the room was large with plenty of seating area and a separate modern bath. Nicely furnished rooms and throughout the common spaces. Very convenient to the historic district - begins one block away. Great local restaurants and even a local fish market within walking distance (buy it and they cook it right at the market to eat there) and 10 minute walk to Tryon Palace. Friendly owners and great way to meet others as you sit on the porch or parlor all day. Great visit - highly recommended. read more

So, we decided to come down to New Bern and stay at the Harmony House Inn for the Fourth! Wanted a quiet place to relax and rewind. Super excited for an old B&B. However once we sat down in the room, I had 6 fleas immediately jump on my ankles!! Really?!?! So I go talk to the owner Tracy and he offered to vacuum. I told him that we are not willing to stay in a flea infested room. His response was, "All I can do is spray apple cider vinegar." Unacceptable! Everything else is booked since it's the Fourth of July and now we are stuck trying to figure out if we can stay anywhere. No concessions, no offer to help find a place to stay, no dinner, nothing! My fiancé and I stayed for six nights in a beautifully decorated king room with a jacuzzi tub. The owners, Tracy and Gretchen, are a lovely couple, and they made us feel like part of their family. Breakfast every morning was phenomenal; cheese blintz, stuffed french toast, quiches, just to name a few. There were also snacks and drinks available all the time, along with fresh baked cookies. There was also a nice social hour every evening with complimentary wine and cheese. The ventilation fan in the bathroom didn't work, but we brought it to Tracy's attention and he assured us it would be fixed. We had a great time in this quaint little town and we will definitely be back! read more

I love the Harmony House and I will definitely stay here again! My husband and I stayed this past weekend and had a wonderful time. The owners, Tracy and Gretchen were so nice and accommodating. The breakfasts were absolutely phenomenal. Praline French toast? Yes, please! The room was very clean and comfortable. Only issue is the bed was very high off the ground, but they provide a nice little step stool to get in/out which was helpful! If you are thinking of visiting New Bern (which you totally should because it is an ADORABLE town) you should definitely stay at the Harmony House. read more

The smell of freshly baked apple pie greeted us as we arrived for Thanksgiving. Our spacious room with many windows let the light flow through our lemon yellow room and each room had a lovely, old, fireplace, so delightful. I expected it to be noisy ,but it was not. The four poster bed was comfy and we slept well awaking to the smell of freshly brewed coffee. The decor is Colonial with cheerful, serene, colors , everything was sparkly clean and inviting , very tastefully done. Bathrooms were roomy & clean. There were nooks & crannies to read & wrap up with a cozy throw. There was a frig with cold drinks. An electric tea pot offered up hot teas or coffee or hot cocoa.There were snacks laid out, including tasty, homemade, cookies. The innkeepers were warm and gracious making our stay excellent. They regaled us with their international travel stories and I felt welcomed. The food was exceptional. One breakfast was a Dutch Baby pastry, fresh pears in a glaze, sausage, with juice & excellent coffee. Thanksgiving Eve-appetizers were served in the stately living room. There were spiced nuts, a warm , blue cheese dip & crackers. Champagne flowed freely. Thanksgiving dinner ? I think you could not find one as delicious anywhere. Tracy smoked a juicy, turkey. Gretchen served stuffing, wild mushroom gravy, wild rice pilaf, green beans, and a cran/apple mold. Then appeared the best apple pie & pumpkin pie. She baked the pumpkin and made her pumpkin pie filling. The location allows for walks to the gift shops & restaurants. New Bern has exciting Colonial & Civil War history. Also, the cost is very reasonable & I hope we can return soon. You can't find another place to stay as lovely. read more

We arrived and Tracy gave us a tour. The house has really old furniture and documents on the walls to read. It's history a lesson in its self. I was thinking of a hotel but sprung for the extra $10/night over a hotel cost. It's a no Brainer to come here. $109+tax is all it cost on this Thursday night. They were so accommodating with the cookies and drinks in the hallway. The room was awesome. A king bed with sitting chairs and a very nice bathroom. The room was as clean as a hospital. It was so quiet I could hear my heart beat. The king bed was just the correct softness. Breakfast the next day was cozy with the other guest. It was a Gourmet breakfast with stuff I forget, but it was very good. It wasn't what we are used to, like eggs and grits but it was a good change of pace. I didn't eat til I got sick either. Well, it was a great stay. I wish we had more time to sit on the front porch and enjoy the town. When we come back we will surely stay here again. read more

My husband and I stayed here in September and had a wonderful time. We were only there one night but will definitely be back. The house and room were very comfortable and Gretchen and Tracy were very friendly and made us feel right at home. The room was stocked nicely. They even have a snack area that had everything you would need. The most memorable thing for us was the Praline Pecan French toast we had for breakfast, it was AMAZING!!! Gretchen was kind enough to share her recipe with us and we can't wait to make it for the holidays! Overall, great location, wonderful accommodations and great in keepers!
